This place food is great but the service and hostess just ruined it for me. I've gone here a few times and it been hit or miss now it's definitely a miss. I'll never go back to S Hole again. I waited a hour for a table for 2.. the hostess shows us a direct sunlight patio table out the back edge of the wall in the patio area. Sun shade wasn't covering the table the hostess struggled to move the umbrella it wouldn't stay there was 3 dirty tables in the patio area we asked for one of those she said they were reserved. My husband called this morning to make a reservation for a big party. Backstory- After going in the past while waiting to be sat for an hour and 45 minutes we saw them seat other people before us when they arrived after us. After being told before we arrived over the phone they didn't take reservations... so on the day we waiting 1hr 45 minutes we asked them why other people were being sat before us. The hostess rudley said "because they made reservations!" Then we were shocked because we were told they didn't take reservations and she responded "really? No we do take reservations." We dropped it... they sat us shortly after. So this morning I called to make another reservation. The girl again says "we don't take reservations." We told her it's been done in the past and expressed we were a party of 17. I don't know if she thought she was muted but she said she needed to ask a manager. I heard her molking us in the background telling her manager the situation. She gets back on the phone and says "okay we will see you at 9:30" she didn't ask for our names or anything. We get off the phone and it just doesn't sit right with me. So I call back and asked to speak to manager Lucas. I explained to him the inconsistency and asked how should we go about this in the future. ( I was super nice about it.) He then tells me "I wrote you guys down and we said we would seat you, what's the problem?" I said - "yes, I'm just trying to understand how you guys do things because we actually visit there often but when we have big parties it's always so confusing" He tells me "technically we shouldnt sit all of you because we don't have enough seating and by us seating you YOURE COSTING US MONEY." I'm mindblown by the attitude. I had family that wanted to be on the road by noonish before they drive back home to New Mexico from visiting this weekend. So we were going to COST THEM MONEY to sit 17 people for about 1.5hours. They're food is good, sure. But they're food is not better than surrounding places. We normally just pick them because they are always the least busy. so they need to humble themselves a little bit. I hope the owner sees this because Lucas and whomever was molking us on the phone are not the faces you want for your business that I'm sure is more important to you than it is to them. read more

I don't know what's going on at What's Cracking in Mesa on McDowell Rd, but it sure wasn't service! Walked in door 9:35 ish hostess said 15-20 minute wait, seated in 10. After about 15 minutes and no service we should have walked out, but I asked a waitress cleaning the table across from us if we could get some one to wait on us we had been here for 15 minutes with no service. She apologized and said one moment. Came back a few minutes later and took our drink order and asked if we were ready to order or needed a few more minutes? Really!?!? It was at least another 40 minutes for our order to be delivered to our table. The food was good, but service was horrible. I don't know if they didn't have a dedicated cook and the main wait staff was taking turns cooking, it seemed like they were all gone from the floor at the same time and all came out with food delivered at same time. When I mentioned the same to waitress, she apologized we had a bad experience and said it had been a busy morning. Really?!?! We have been coming here for a few years. when we started visiting the food was incredible, the casserole was delicious with fresh yummy hollandaise sauce. In the last year or so we have only been back once, yesterday. It was early but we were still surprised to see it practically empty. We ordered biscuits and gravy and the breakfast casserole. EVERYTHING is frozen or canned!!! The gravy and hollandaise sauce was obviously powdered crap. The casserole had more bread and sausage grizzle than anything else and the only way that I knew it had egg was because I got a piece of eggshell in it (lovely texture). When we told our waitress that the food was awful, she just shrugged and gave us the bill. That is the last time we visit there unless they revert back to their old food quality standards (if they ever do). Sad for this place. read more

I got chilequiles and it was kind of an odd amalgamation of food and I'm used to tortillas being cut and lightly fried but these were just tortilla chips but it wasn't bad. Went here for breakfast while attending a car show that was in the same complex. The service was initially friendly but after sharing that I was here showing off my car, the conversation went south and I was attacked and berated for being an "awful person" and people who modify cars are "street thugs and gansters" - I was asked to leave. Hate to kick someone while they're down but I wouldn't recommend this place. We've been here YEARS ago and fell in love. Todays visit was a different experience. We ordered an omelette breakfast plate and an traditional eggs/meat/potatoes plate. Omelette was $16 and the serving was surprisingly on the smaller side. Husband said the flavor was good, just the size was noticeable. My concern is that the eggs are the same as those found in a buffet style setting (very dry/sticky) and the hash brown tots are obviously also from a bag. If I'm paying a higher price that's fine- but make up for it by at least using fresh ingredients. The patio is a very relaxing spot and the iced tea was delicious. We booked online a few days before, had no wait when we arrived (party of 4), the service was good despite being the busiest time of the weekend. If there were zero stars I would select that option. Despite numerous bad experiences we came in again only because we were with a group who chose this place for breakfast. I ordered the vegan french toast. After eating about a quarter of my meal someone came out of the kitchen with a new plate and said that what I had been eating wasn't vegan. . The replacement they brought was literally inedible. It was gelatinous, cold and wet. If you have food allergies please stay away from this place. I'll be back I think their service is always on point and they have a great dog friendly patio, but I'm really disappointed in their breakfast now, no hash browns you have to order tator tots instead seems kind of lazy to me. What I meant earlier about cooked food, I ordered a half waffle and at over 6 buck I was expecting more than a tiny terrible store bought waffle like substance which was over sweet with crunchy sugar bits in it. To their credit it was removed from my bill. I'll stick to the cooked food from now on, but with no hash browns I'll have to move to omelettes or their breakfast tacos which are great. First off let me say the hostess was really nice and communicated well with me. I can only appreciate that especially when they're super busy. The waitress was amazing as well she was very attentive to our group although it was very busy in there. I know you're wondering "How can he only give it 3 stars?" Well unfortunately I didn't go for the waitress and hostess I went for the food. The food wasn't terrible it's just the chicken was dry. I will say the potatoes were really good and I mean really good. The mimosas was definitely in my top 3 mimosas all time but again as a black man I love my chicken especially fried chicken so I was a little disappointed it was dry. I wasn't disappointed to the point I'd never come here again because I certainly would. In fact I'd encourage everyone to try this restaurant it was a cool spot and I like the patio seating. Nice vibe in the restaurant. Next time I come here I'll try something else because there was a few menu items I wanted to try. If you eat here definitely get the mimosas and get a side of potatoes if your meal doesn't come with them. Lastly, those people complaining about the prices where do y'all eat at McDonald's or something? I paid over $30 because I tipped the nice waitress. Chic fil a will charge you $21 for two sandwiches, ice tea and soggy fries....stop complaining and stay home if you can't afford a $30 meal because their prices are on par with most other restaurants in my opinion. read more

Mixed feelings... As many of the other reviews have mentioned, this restaurant is packed into a really small space. That will be okay for the six months out of the year that you can sit outside, but it's a bit of a drag for the other half of the year. Here are the good points: -Friendly servers -Pretty good food. I had the carnitas burrito, and thought that the meat, beans and tortilla were good quality. -They serve your soft drink/iced tea in a plastic cup. You can get a refill for the road and take it with you. Smart idea, clever marketing item too. The not-so-great: -My burrito had big chunks of flavorless potato in it. It would be much better if the potatoes were smaller, with more seasoning, and crispier. -Yeah, I'm kind of a picky princess, so I asked them to hold the pico in my burrito. But they didn't, which was disappointing. Maybe have the kitchen be mindful of special requests? (I didn't send it back. I'm sure they would have remade it, but I hate to have them throw out the old one and waste it.) -The cramped quarters really are a downside to the whole experience. All in all, I would like to come back and try some other menu items. read more

I don't leave a lot of reviews but this is the worst food and service I have experienced in a while. My bf bought a Groupon and we thought we would try it out. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich and he ordered The All American breakfast plate. When my sandwich came the batter on my sandwich was visibly burnt. It was dark brown. I took a bite and a wave of old grease and burnt flavor overcame my taste buds. I couldn't even taste the meat or cheese. I decided to pick some meat out of the sandwich but even then it just tasted like grease and overused oil that should have been swapped hours ago. I completely lost my appetite. I picked at a couple fries. On top of that, they charged my bf for the full price of the meal even after we had showed them the Groupon before we ordered and then tried to charge him more on top of it and the staff seemed incompetent. Worst experience in a long time! :( I should have taken a picture but I just wanted to get the hell out of there. read more

Okay... First off I want to say that I did not tell the server of my concerns so that is on me. But I want to prepare anyone else if I can... husband and I love breakfast and we decided to get up early and drive 25 mins or so out here to try their famous Benedict's. I am pretty easy when it comes to breakfast but I have to say, the original Benedict was the worst Benedict I've ever had. The hollandaise sauce tasted sort of stale? With a spray can cheese flavor too, and not the consistency of a velvety, creamy hollandaise. The food was not hot, nor even warm when it came out. The English muffins were extremely thick and Barely toasted and I have to say it was very off putting. We also ordered a side of their weekend special berry crepes. These also was very cold and like it was left out on the window all weekend, with fruit mixture from a jar... Not to mention our bill was about $65 or so and I wish I would've spoke up at the time. 2 stars is because they weren't busy and service was good. I was extremely disappointed with the food especially with all the great reviews and sadly won't ever go back. I am not hoping for any kind response on this. Just want to let breakfast lovers out there know my personal experience and hope it helps someone. read more
