More than 5 star, certainly the best Mediterranean restaurant to be found ANYWHERE. Let me start by saying my husband is middle eastern, we are transplants from a metropolis and until tonight SPOKANE was lacking flavorful, ethnic, spicy deliciousness that we are used to. We had three different people recommend "The White House" to us this week alone. We were more than pleased with the phenomenal flavors, developed flavors, tender meats and large portions. The owner was in the open kitchen, working his tail off and personally thanking patrons. Recipe for perfection. We had the lamb kabob plates and chicken kabob plates with many sides of tzatziki. The food was marinated in such an array of fresh spices, very tender and large chunks of protein. The tzatziki was bright and flavorful, perfect compliment. Dinner with group of six locals (part of larger informal neighborhood foodie group). This is a Grill, not a restaurant promoting itself as "Fine Dining". So not a fancy place. But clean and roomy. Friendly and efficient from first person who meets you upon entering. Seated quickly (we had a reservation), and the outstanding server was there for drink orders immediately, and then proceeded to do a happy, prompt, and accurate service for the entire evening. A+ to her. The food is outstanding. Not too much garlic at all, but lots of great flavors. We shared a few appetizers (very good), then some had soup (off the chart excellent Onion soup), and some had salads (fresh and crispy). Most of us then had some variation of the Sea Bass mixed grill, some with extra Sea Bass, and some with lamb and/or shrimp. Impressed all six diners who were impressed not just with the flavor (including the green beans and rice) but with the generous portions. Multiple desserts at the table and all reported or tasted as big thumbs up. Best comment was from our first timer couple who simply said "Wow, this is one of the best places in the area. Amazing food and customer service that is beyond fantastic. I've been 3 times. I've ordered the traditional gyro each time. I will order something different next time, but these have me coming back and they're a great price. Several weeks ago, my niece ordered the market platter, I think that's what it's called with the sea bass, curried chicken and prawns. She said it's one of the best meals she had ever had, and we would be back. Last night, Sunday, September 15th, I called in an order for pickup. I was told there would be a 20-25-minute wait so I decided to tool around Walmart first. I figured I'd give them the full 25 minutes since I was sure they would be busy, and I was right. When I got there the parking lot was jammed full. I think there was a wedding party that was just leaving but inside was still packed. I had to park next door. I walked over and walked in, and the place was bustling. I stood by the door for a minute and when someone came up I let them know that I had placed an order for pickup. They told me they didn't think it was ready yet. I said "oh, I thought I gave it enough time." Then someone else came over and asked what I ordered, and I told them, and they found it on the counter. I mentioned that I figured the small bag was mine. I then inquired where I could pay. One of the men in the kitchen said "it's on us." I told them it wasn't necessary at all. I had really only waited 10 minutes or less total but he insisted. I said okay, free tastes better and thank you! This level of customer service deserves a rave review. They also comped something the first time I was there for a sit-down meal because it took a bit longer than anticipated. Mind you, no one at the table had complained about the wait. So much has been said here in the Yelp reviews, I don't think I can ad much more. But here goes anyway... Garlic, oh my! But not overwhelming. Very well balanced in all but one dish I tried. It was a bit heavy in the caesar dressing. The fried calamari app was full of fried garlic cloves which were soooo good. The Gyro killed along with the flat iron steak dinner. The sides were tasty. Each plate was overflowing with food. The food came out quick, the staff was attentive but not hovering. Prices were more than fair for the quality and amount of food. There was a bit of weird vibe on the Saturday night we ate. Very busy and everything moved quickly. We were in and out in about 45 minutes for a sit down family dinner. I understand (and appreciate) the hectic pace set by the host's and hostesses. But usually, once you're seated, things calm down and you can enjoy a leisurely dinner. The service was the absolute drizzling ****s. Worst I'd ever experienced. Almost an hour to get our food (which we didn't get all at once which tells me all I need to know about how the kitchen's run) but that could have been forgiven if this "garlic mecca" lived up to its much-ballyhooed reputation. I was told that my roommate, who loves garlic more than God, would be sated here. We were ALL disappointed. It didn't even trigger my asthma. There were no clouds of garlic vapor. So all the people who talked that up were full of **** That could have also been forgiven as it's not the restaurant's fault if people talk a place up. I had a lamb and pepper stir fry sort of thing. Lamb chunks that tasted exactly like beef, sautéed peppers, fried onions and fried potato chunks over rice. The spicing was aggressive but the oil on everything was just way too damn much. The individual pieces of the dish tasted ok-ish but it wasn't more than the sum of its parts. 3/10. We split a garlic bread and it was... ok? It certainly wasn't as good as we'd hoped it would be and, for almost $5, we barely got any at all! I tried a piece of baklava and had most of a tiramisu myself. Best things of the evening and they were pre-made. This is the single worst place I've ever eaten at since moving to Washington. Overpriced, poorly staffed, below average food, and what does GREEK food have to do with the center of US government? My roommate postulated that the house is white and I'm reading too much into it. Then we saw the politically-themed drink menus. Pick an aesthetic and stick to it! The nicest thing I can say about it is when we asked to be seated away from the family with five children, we were complied with. I'm going to the Satellite Diner tonight with my wife for a birthday. Awesome food, awful table service. Can't stress enough how good the food was. Flavorful AF. Bursting with butthole searing flavor at every turn. Portion sizes are more than ample and you can even bring some food home. Table service was atrocious. Waited 10 minutes for water then 25 more for food before having to flag down our waiter and see what the deal was. 10 minutes later our dinners arrived and mine was already getting cold, and the waiter had forgotten to put in our appetizer order so that was never received. I am 90% certain the waiter was stoned. We were offered free dessert for the screw up but this was also forgotten and we had to ask for it again as well. Table was shakier than a fourth marriage though a sweet table runner was able to jam some more tinfoil under the leg to even us out. Overall I'm quite pleased and hope to come back sometime. The atmosphere was great as was the service. Having lived in Greece for 3 months I was disappointed at the menu. I did not find the lamb dishes I loved in Greece. The Baklava was dry did not have any nuts and was made with simple syrup instead of honey. In all I would give it an ok rating but probably will eat elsewhere read more

This is a must go to!! We went on a Friday night and the place was packed! 25 minute seat time so the wife and I sat outside and had a jack and coke ... Time went by quick.. we went inside and sat down.... the server was very nice and very attentive to our needs along with her other tables... she did very good... Nice inside and quaint... seating is not too packed in and they still got a lot of people in there... we started with the calamari .. I have never had it before only to find out it's octopus or squid still not sure... it was good I have no real opinion first time having it and it tasted a lot like the reading.... Not bad either tho... we also got some French bread which was sliced up and came with some vinegar garlic on a plate it was tasty... I also had a cup of French onion soup... it taste amazing only complaint is no onions and the croissant was already soggy when I got it.... But the flavor and the cheese was amazingly good.... So our main dish I got the Souvlaki which was lamb on a skewer and rice with garlic green beans.. the lamb was oh so good... the rice amazing... the green beans like I've never had before good.... Our food was amazing and so was the service - but I've come to expect more of the general public in Idaho. We were at a long table and there was a two top squeezed in next to our large party. We had not just this lady in the photo, but even another couple, listen in to our conversations and make comments about my friends weight. The food was nice here - I just want to warn customers that this venue charged an extra 3% on my credit card due to "...chicken flu and storms in Tanzania" I have no idea where this came from and had my wife and I not been returning from traveling and wanting to get home - I'd have questioned this there and then. I've been eating here for years and always enjoy the food and atmosphere. Most recently I ordered the caprese lamb burger that was on the weekly fresh sheet. Perfectly seasoned and cooked lamb patty, arugula, balsamic, gorgonzola and fresh mozzarella cheeses, with tomato and sautéed onions. The burger was amazing, I got a little bit of fries and the garlic pasta salad. Fries had great seasons and were good, the pasta was an absolute after thought that was just cooked noodles mixed with Mayo and seasoning. We looked at all the great reviews and took a chance because we generally love Greek/Mediterranean food. Sometimes yelp is great and other times it misses the mark. This was one of those times it missed the mark. After looking at the menu, I decided not to order anything - the server gave me a strange look but I didn't feel like telling her the menu looked rough. Lots of lamb and chicken. My wife ordered a gyro and my son a lamb burger. Meh. $42 for a gyro and a burger. The gyro was decent - meat was fine but the tomatoes were terrible (white). The pasta salad side was not very good (heavy seasoning, dill perhaps?), and the fries that came with the burger were aggressively seasoned - to the point of being inedible. Both the pasta salad and fries were essentially untouched. I was starving as we'd been traveling since 5am and we were ready for lunch so finally I ordered the hummus and eggplant dip. I love garlic but this dish was so over the top with garlic it was barely edible. Not to mention the dip was covered with paprika. The service was slow, which is strange because when we were seated, there were only two other tables. Nice enough server but the food missed the mark, and the atmosphere was lacking. Not sure how this place has so many rave reviews - perhaps it's located in a good desert so it stands out. We tried it once and won't be back. YMMV. read more

So I really like the desert here at WHG but I doubt I'd ever get a meal here. I walked in the other night for some dessert to go. It was a busy evening and we had to wait...no problem. While waiting I was able to peek in the kitchen which is open. The cook, who has long hair, wasn't wearing a hairnet and was the only one not wearing gloves. He reached into the fridge several times, grabbed raw meat and put it on the grill. Without washing his hands, he then grabbed a dirty towel and wiped a few things down and then wiped his nose with the back of his hand before heading back to the grill to continue cooking. This all took place within the 10 minutes we waited to order and then get our food. Just from the cook alone there was a LOT of concerning, unsanitary things going on. The issue isn't the food...it clearly tastes good as represented by the wait to be seated....the issue for me is that the person MAKING and HANDLING the food wiped his nose and touched raw food without gloves along with a dirty towel to wipe things up without washing his hands once. I rated the place a 2 but feel free to rate as you feel appropriate given the obvious health code violations. read more

Love the White House. Garlic is seeping out of every nook and cranny at this post falls eatery. The curry, the lamb, the kofte, the salmon, everything is as it should be for a middle-eastern/Mediterranean dining experience. Pastas, salads, drinks. It's all good. Try the caprese lamb burger. It's it not gamey, the fresh mozzarella, tomatoes. It's a really good burger. Kofte is a middle-eastern flattened meatball (Kofte means finger cause it's often shaped like a finger and cooked on a skewer). Sarma is a great skewer of lamb chunks and really tastey. The rice pilaf and the garlic green beans are not to be missed even if they don't come with your dish. It's worth the extra couple of bucks. The White House is a regular rotation when we can. I've eaten at some pretty swanky places y'all where food is $250 a plate. This place put all of it to shame. Literally the best food I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Whitehouse makes Ruth's Chris, Nobu, and Hells Kitchen look like child's play. So mouthwatering, you close your eyes just to savor every little drip in your mouth. Be prepared for garlic breath for at least a full 30 hours post your meal- is it worth it? 100%. I'm lebanese and lamb is a staple in the meals and I have to say the lamb was cooked to absolute perfection. Very very well seasoned, the RICE was amazing. Hummus was very tasty, although I will say everything I had including the hummus came with spice and heat. Fantastic experience.
