I love pizza and could eat it every day, so when I heard Wildcrust was opening in the area I had to be there for their grand opening. It's located in the same complex as Fondry & Queen St. There's a front patio area and an enclosed patio area. The inside dining area has booth seating and high-tops in addition to communal tables and the décor emits a midcentury vibe. Hostess Angelina was an absolute sweetheart and Jordan (server) was darling. I ordered the Marinara Pizza and a glass of Garuti Lambrusco Di Sobra. I always judge a pizza by the crust, and Wildcrust's woodfired sourdough crust was delicious! It was puffy on the edges and had a nice flavor. The marinara sauce was also exceptionally good. The person across from me had the Caesar Salad, and it looked amazing! I definitely want to try that next time. The place was packed and the owners made it a point to stop by each table to make sure everyone was enjoying their meal and asked for feedback. Came here for a cozy date night and honestly loved everything about it. The space feels intimate but would also work really well for a small group -- the kind of place where you can linger and actually hear each other talk. The menu is pretty small, but that ended up being a good thing because everything we ordered absolutely delivered. The sourdough pizza is the star -- you can really taste the fermentation, with that perfect balance of chew and crisp. We ordered the Etna Rosso, the salami pizza, and the meatballs, and every dish hit. The Etna Rosso had great depth without being heavy, the salami pizza was full of flavor without overpowering the crust, and the meatballs were tender and well-seasoned. Service was friendly and attentive without feeling rushed. We made our reservation through Resy, and it was completely seamless -- seated right on time. Parking is a little limited right out front, but we found easy street parking just one street over, so it wasn't an issue. Came here twice now and this time we had a big party (10) so we got to try all the pizzas and some sides. My fave pizza was the N'duja one and my son loved his salami w no cheese and the marinara (he has a dairy allergy). Their veggies were amazing too esp the caesar salad. The steak though, was the sleeper hit. I don't know if I can not order that now when we go there. Best of all, I communicated w the owner via instagram and she answered all my allergy questions promptly and for our second time there she was super accommodating to our needs (baby stroller, outdoor preferred, large party). I had the pleasure of dining here for dinner last night with my coworkers and everyone was so happy and full. We couldn't stop talking about the pizza dough! I wouldn't even call it a pizza dough bc it's so airy, light and full of flavor. The proportions of bread to sauce to toppings were perfect on each pizza. We tried a few different kinds but we loved the margarita, and the jam and cheese pizza. So perfectly balanced in flavor and texture. I want to try the funghi pizza next time! The beet and meatball appetizers were exceptionally good. The goat cheese foam on the roasted beets was so good, i could probably eat spoonfuls of it. Our favorite dessert was the vanilla ice cream w dalgona cookies. How do you get dalgona to be so crunchy yet chewy! It almost tasted like a meringue cookie but even better bc of the burnt sugar taste and perfect texture. Yum. The food was paced so perfectly. We were enjoying our meal without any awkward pauses. Don't sleep on this spot!! I absolutely LOVED my experience here. The outdoor patio is cute, heated, and very dog friendly! The servers were extremely kind and helpful! We devoured everything we ordered! The duck croquettes were a great start to our meal! We loved how the crispy exterior complimented the tender duck inside. We also ordered the cabbage from the grilled menu. I wasn't sure what to expect for this dish. However, the cabbage was tender and a bit on the sweet side, but paired well with the sun dried tomatoes and pecorino sauce. First off, we were greeted by Jean with great hospitality. That set the tone for the evening. However, my daughter who made the reservation only made it for two instead of three. Jean made it work and accomodated us beautifully. Since this was our first time at Wildcrust, we wanted to try as much of the menu as possible. For starters, we had the olives (cold), Caesar salad (huge portion with lots of cheese and little gem lettuce), beet salad (INCREDIBLE with beet chips and ricotta), meatballs (succulent and finished ended with some heat), and the Brussels sprouts (my daughter loved them). We had a margherita pizza and a lamb taziki pizza - the crust was good enough to eat PLAIN! We all had dessert with the Milk vanilla ice cream with honeycomb candy (insane), apple sorbet (tart and rich), and the delicious tiramisu. Everything was so good and prepared well! Of course, we took a lot home which will be perfect for lunch tomorrow! The staff including our waiter, Travis, and Claudia (in-training) were amazing. Travis knew the menu well and explained everything to us in a kind and helpful manner. We were never rushed and were able to enjoy each course in our own time. By the time we left, the place was packed! It was a little loud, but not horribly loud as we sat on the patio. The patio had a lovely ambiance once the sun set with twinkle lights, candles, and individual lights on the tables. We will definitely go back to Wildcrust as it is so local to us. Ambiance is cool but we got sat at a community table on V-day and that was a little annoying. Prices on food were fine but the wine was super expensive. The Duck Croquettes were amazingly delicious; the croquettes were lightly battered, crispy, duck was tender, and the garlic aioli complimented it perfectly. Such an incredible dining experience! We couldn't have been happier to have celebrated our friend's birthday dinner here. The team was able to accommodate our party of 10 on a rainy Saturday night in LA (!) and provided absolutely standout service the whole night. We booked on Resy and were seated quickly upon arriving. Sam walked us through the menu and made great suggestions for the group: we ordered the brussels sprouts and meatballs + margherita, salame piccante, and bacon onion jam pizzas. Everything was a hit and came out perfectly timed. Our favorite was the bacon onion jam pizza. We'll be back for more soon! The team at Wildcrust took excellent care of us the entire evening, from jumping in to take our photos throughout the night to helping out with cutting and passing out slices of cake at the end of our meal. We accidentally ended up at this new to us restaurant in Highland Park (it's been open 7 months). In my craze to get out the door and make a my kids music lesson, I made a reservation for what I thought was the new pizza place next door to the lesson but I made a reservation at the new pizza joint in Highland Park on York. Anyway, luckily, I thought something was awry in the car and realized my mistake before I parked. We flipped around and went to Wildcrust which is right next door to Fondry (which as you know has the crazy good croissants). Anyway, I feel the need to give a big shout out to Wildcrust because opening a business in this climate is extremely hard! Not only did I love their restaurant setting with both indoor and outdoor seating but I had the best wait person ever! The food was really, really good and the pizza crust light and yummy. We were surprised to be charged extra for basic pizza accompaniments like parmesan and red pepper flakes. Given the cost, we expected more care and flavor. We are so excited that this place opened up in Highland park. After Otono closed down, we felt a void for a go to place with delicious satisfying food that's close by. The menu is delightful. It's a rare that there's something for everyone. Gourmet pizzas for the kids and big bonus, gourmet meal options for the adults. When do you ever see that? My favorites this time around, was the duck liver pate. Holy Moly! Was that like a party in your mouth?! We had the pork chop for dinner which was served perfectly at "medium". It was cooked to perfection and served with delightful Smokey fava beans. So good! On top of it all we had the honor of meeting 2 of the owners who were so sweet. We knew a guy who knew a guy and got to check out their soft opening, but you would think they had been open for years with how smoothly everything ran. There is a cute little patio and a small dining room, a giant pizza oven, and an amazing menu. The wine menu is small but mighty - we ended up with Post Flirtation and Le Cave and liked them so much, we got another glass of each. We had to do it up and get the duck liver mousse because DUH, and I was honestly so impressed. The pairing with apple relish is genius and makes it super crave-able. The pizza crust is fermented for 48 hours and cooked high and fast in their beautiful pizza oven. It is crispy but chewy and has a lot of flavor. We got the funghi pizza and the lamb tzatziki. The lamb tzatziki was out of this world! The lamb was tender and the addition of mint really pulled everything together. I also really enjoyed the funghi pizza, great for vegetarians! Absolutely not to miss dishes: -duck croquettes (they take three days to make!) -Caesar salad (the best Caesar in the greater Los Angeles area, could eat a bucket) -duck breast (it is so hard to find duck in this city that is not grievously overcooked - this duck has a perfect crispy exterior and a perfect temperature inside) -grilled cabbage (sleeper hit) And as for pizza, if you're a meat eater make sure you try the lamb pizza - it's essentially a chef miles specialty. I'm a big fan of this place. My family & I have been looking for a nicer pizza joint to fill the hole left behind after U Street closed down (RIP ) and this may be it. These were not too densely packed which was a big positive and helped create an airier, more pleasant eating experience despite how rich they are. Love the sauce too. These were absolutely delicious. - Margherita pizza: also solid. This is a favorite type for my son & I and we really enjoyed it. I actually liked the inclusion of garlic. - Funghi pizza: surprisingly my son liked this more than the margherita. This was a little richer with all the mushrooms. - Strawberry sorbet: wow, this was really nice and jammy. Not as light as a typical sorbet but more intense. If you're a strawberry lover like me, you'll love this. - Milk ice cream with freeze dried honeycomb: this was the only thing that didn't meet my expectations but it's still extremely good. I really love the fermented pizza dough. It's wonderfully chewy. My husband usually doesn't like to eat pizza crust but he ate the entire pizza slices. The food was fine, nothing stood really stood out, especially for the price. Food and wine cost are very high, even for a bougie new place in HLP. I agree the crusts felt undercooked and floppy. What was really weird was the attitude of the host/manager(?). We were the first to arrive, our friend made the reservation. We said we were expecting 5 and the friend apparently made the reservation for 4. Our party's mistake, totally get it, but he was SUCH a drama queen about it. Telling us 'please God let it be 4' and 'it's not about space, it's about the experience of the other guests' as he led us to a booth that could easily seat 5, and in fact did when our other friend showed up. After which, he returned again and said 'we'll let it slide this time, but normally this isn't allowed'. And then he mentioned berated our other friend AGAIN when she got up to use the bathroom. Each time we felt like we were being scolded by a school teacher using their 'nice voice'. Look, I get it. People try to cheat the system at a hot new place and squeeze in another party member, but apparently our friend didn't know about the fifth when he made the reservation so it was kind of a miscommunication/honest mistake. But our 5th easily fit at our booth, we got in absolutely no one's way, and he paid you for more of your overpriced wine and food. Seems like a win win.
