Came here for dinner on a work trip. Sat at the bar to order. The service was quick and friendly. Unfortunately my meal was not what I had hoped for. I just wanted something light so at the prompt of reading reviews and talking to the bartender I ordered the steak tartare toast and a side of carrots. The steak tartare had so many flavorful ingredients that I couldn't even taste the steak. The pickled mushrooms and hazelnuts overpowered everything else and when I did try the steak by itself it tasted more like a tomato paste, I assume from the pickling flavor in the mushrooms. The carrots laid in a bed of oil which was a bit off-putting for me. I liked the flavor but wish there had been a lot less oil. The food sat in my stomach that evening, overnight and into the next morning in an uncomfortable way. I am not sure which ingredient or combination of ingredients caused this but I would not wish that upon anyone. I think I may have just ordered wrong because the other guests at the bar seemed to really enjoy their meals (I saw a couple pizzas and a pasta). What a lovely place! I met my friend for early evening drinks and dinner on a Saturday and we got a seat near the bar. It was crowded!! It was hard to pick from the list of cocktails that all looked amazing! I tried 2 (one with rum "Weather Permitting" and one with gin "True Loves Eye") and both were delicious! We decided to split a pizza - we got the Winter Fever. So I'm not even a mushroom person but it was DELICIOUS!!! The despite being so crowded, our server was so attentive. A few mixed critic reviews of Wilder left me slightly apprehensive to dine here, but the restaurant's unique offering of fresh pasta, wood fired pizza, and Instagram worthy ambiance enticed me enough to make a reservation. My wife, parents, and I were promptly seated at our 8:30 reservation time on the restaurant's main level. As expected, the space is eye catching with electric blue velvet banquettes, gold chairs, and tapestries lining the wall. The crowd ranged from families to wannabe influencers and the noise level of the dining rooms gets a little loud. Despite how busy the restaurant was, our waiter gave us excellent service which included constant water refills, assistance with the menu, and a very kind demeanor. We started with a beer, glass of wine, and one of Wilder's mocktails (Doctor's Orders). The selection overall is good, though the prices can be eye poppingly high (e.g. $9 for a craft beer, $18 for a glass of wine). We also ordered the signature pull apart rolls as an appetizer. The rolls arrived room temperature but nonetheless tasted fresh with a melt in the mouth texture. The olive butter served alongside complemented the rolls nicely. For our entrees, we opted for 2 pizzas and 2 pastas. The pizzas we sampled had puffy, well charred Neapolitan crusts which, while satisfyingly doughy, lacked the complex fermented flavors I like. The standard margarita had fresh cheese but the tomato sauce tasted flat. Similarly, the Fall Fever pizza had a few too many almost burnt mushrooms for my liking, but I appreciated the garlicky white sauce and the sweet slices of delicata squash. Both of the pasta dishes we ordered fared excellently, as the rigatoni and mafaldine provided chewy, homemade noodles which clung onto the respective sauces beautifully. My wife preferred the meaty, tomato forward ragu of the rigatoni dish, though I loved the comforting flavors of the vodka sauce and generous chunks of sweet crab in the mafaldine. These pastas compare favorably to noodles we've sampled at more established Italian places in the city. As with the drinks, our entree prices ran a few bucks more than at similar caliber restaurants. We ended with a trio of sorbets given complimentarily for my wife's birthday as well as the bombolini. The sorbets were refreshing and the hot Italian doughnuts were excellent paired with creamy ricotta and chocolate sauce. Our bill was about $200 for four including tax and tip, which felt steep given that we have had similarly good experiences in the city at less cost at other places. Overall, we had a great meal here with excellent pasta, friendly service, and appealing ambiance, It's a solid option for a fancy place with something for everyone, but falls just shy of a perfect 5 stars due to pricing and so-so pizzas. read more

What could be more "Wild" than a place with cheetah prints, velvet plush seating and gorgeous chandeliers, this place screams super chic and sexy. I started with a drink called Space Is The Place (watermelon & lime). It's served in a martini glass but without the alcohol. My friend had One Last Question and we made a joke about the name. We started the night with six Naked Cowboys, I'm talking about the raw oysters. We were told this one is the most briny and it is what I prefer. Slurp up that oceanic salty juice and lick your lips. Next we shared the Summer Fever wood-fired pizza. The toppings were fresh and I loved the sliced zucchini and squash blossoms. The crust is thin and reminded me of a naan, so good. I also highly recommend the Shrimp and Polenta. It was extremely flavorful and seasoned well. Consistency of the polenta was perfect and the shrimp were huge and plump. One star is taken away for their side order of bacon strips. They were overly crispy and crumbled into bits. We also didn't care for the cinnamon rolls. Tonight I got to dine at Wilder for a birthday dinner for one of my best friends and I had a great evening. As their name suggests, Wilder has a fun jungle retro theme throughout the restaurant. The restaurant interior is well spaced out with two floors and I don't remember feeling that our area was crowded at all. The lighting is a bit dim with low lighting and table candlelights so it can be hard to take good quality photos there. The service was wonderful as they were attentive, quick, and accommodating. For the dishes, I ordered the Chili Roasted Oysters, Mafaldine Alla Vodka, and Citrus Pavlova. The Chili Roasted Oysters were my favorite dish I had tonight. The Chili Roasted Oysters were delicious with the crispy panko like crust and the Oysters was well mixed into the panko. The Mafaldine Alla Vodka sauce was very pronounced in the pasta but I didn't really taste the Chesapeake Crab which I was hoping to taste the crab. Lastly I had the Citrus Pavlova, which it was an interesting mix of cream, chantilly, and grapefruit. I felt like the Pavlova was more of a meringue and the chantilly and orange flavors didn't mix too well. I wanted to give Wilder a 5 star rating but I had to give a 4 star instead due to major prominent ingredients lacking flavor in the dishes. Dinner~We were so impressed by happy hour we stayed for dinner. A friend and I shared the Bucatini Nero and Mafaldine alla vodka. I loved flavor of the Bucatini Nero, not too salty but you could definitely taste the squid ink, which I love. The Mafaldine alla Vodka was also delicious, and I loved how there was lump crab in almost every bite. The staff were so nice and accommodating, and you could tell everyone was enjoying their time at Wilder! tl;dr although it's working through a few growing pains, this chic new Rittenhouse eatery proves to be more than a sum of its eclectic parts After a multiyear rennovation of the carriage house and rowhome previously occupied by the Philadelphia Academy of Social Dance, Wilder is finally open. The name refers to the quirky amalgam of its parts, channeled both in its menu and decor. The concept sits somewhere between upscale pizzeria and seasonal farm-to-table, with a vaguely Italian-influenced array of raw seafood, pizza, pasta, and plates. The enourmous bi-level eater is intentionally eccentric. The downstairs eatery is warmly lit by ornate chandeliers, and the mezzaine-level bar is lined with leopard-print stools. Upstairs, house plants dangle from the large skylight that extends the depth of the room. The walls are decked with Persian rugs on one side, and a wavy light fixture on the other. Rich fabrics hang from the middle of the room, down to the turquoise velvet-uphostered booths. Early 2000s pop-rock intermixes with the mingling of diners. My partner and I decided on a whim to swing by for Friday dinner. The early dinner service hummed with patrons, but we had no trouble securing a last-minute table. Throughout our meal, the upscale service was diligent, but felt slightly rushed. For appetizers, we shared the Pull Apart Rolls, the Roasted Chesapeake Oysters, and the Mortadella & Long Hot Pizza. The milk bun-esque rolls, with a crisp, buttery croissant-like exterior, were insanely airy, proving to be an ideal light palette whetter for 2. The semi-sweet flavor was complemented exquisitely by ample salt shavings and rich, garlicy (and peculiarly green) butter. Next, four 4 oysters were served piping hot on a bed of salt crystals and dried kelp. The crisp breading did not overwhelm the delicate flavor of oyster, and the slight lingering heat of fermented chili was complimented by the bite of meyer lemon. Lastly, the personal-sized pizza sported a leopard-spotted crust to match the funky throw pillows. Cheese and chopped pistachio were hidden by evenly lined slices of mortadella and an acidic arugala salad, culminating into an upscale hoagie-esque flavor. While the middle of the pie was well-decked with toppings, the cheese stretched unevenly to the bland, doughy edges -- which ended up being an worthy conduit for our remaining garlic butter. After a reasonable pause, a plate-and-silverware change, and table wipedown, we moved into our mains: the Mafaldine Alla Vodka and the Spanish Octopus. The al dente, wavy-edged noodles held onto the sweet, tangy sauce. The pasta was topped generously with jumbo lump crab and accented by crispy breadcrumbs. The resultant dish was simultaneously summery and comforting, easily my favorite crab pasta in recent memory. On the other hand, our octopus was impressively presented, with 2 whole tentacles stretching the length of the ribbed dish. Lemon provided an acidic kick to the smoky eggplant puree, and pine nuts created an interesting textural contrast. Ironically, the octopus itself was the least enjoyable component of the dish, erring on burnt rather than charred. All said and done, our bill sat at $124 (after tax and tip), and satisfyingly filled 2 moderately-to-very hungry appetites. While priced at a premium akin to countless other Rittenhouse sit-down-eries, Wilder stands out by backing up its impressive superficial looks with tasty (if not somewhat inconsistently executed) dishes. And, perhaps most importantly, I'm game for a return visit. read more

I don't leave reviews usually but this had to be shared. I wish I could give a 0/5 stars. I went to this restaurant on 6/01 and at first I thought it was all in my head but the restaurant staff was racist. If not towards me (it was) but, towards an African American couple. To see a table not be served anything but a glass of water and when serving me everything seemed to not be served or sold out. It got to the point where the couple left with never being served anything and with me not ordering while the rest of my table ate (no one else was African American at my table). Having exchanged eye contact with the female of the couple after seeing the waitress see them and continuing not to interact. I was disgusted by the entire experience.
