Well this was a disappointing experience. I'll start with the good things. (There weren't many) The sidecar cocktail was outstanding. So clearly the bartender knows what they are doing. The crostini's (is that what they were?!!?) weren't even toasted. As a matter of fact, the TWO sprinkles of cheese that they had over the soup was still cold. THEY WEREN'T EVEN MELTED! I think we all started laughing it was so bad. Having decided that I would pass on the soup, I ordered the wedge. There's this saying, perhaps you've heard of it. "Less is more". They had everything in this wedge EXCEPT the wedge. Just way way way way too much going on. I mean, they had a piece of corn on the cob in this joint! Ok, ok...on to the main course..but why?!!? Food here was exceptionally delicious! I have been only to a few spots in Morgan Hill, but by far the best. This place has set the bar high for restaurants around the area. The outdoor seating area was perfect for us and our two dogs. The services was meh at best. Our waiter could have been a little more attentive. I finished my meal before my lunch date was able to get ranch and knife to cut her burger. This place would get five stars if it wasn't for that. I prolonged writing this review, but it was definitely something I had to get around to doing. This year on Valentine's Day, I had a reservation for three, myself and my two young children. When we arrived to the restaurant there was a light drizzle of rain beginning. The young couple just in front of us checking in were moved from their patio seating to inside the restaurant (as we overheard because of the rain). I expected the same, but me and my fourteen-year-old son, and five-year-old daughter were escorted to the patio seating. I didn't want to fuss, so I just asked that the heating lamp be turned on, and the umbrella to be opened. I was informed that both could not be done for safety reasons, so we opted for the heating lamp. About 30 minutes into waiting to have our order taken, it began to rain down heavily. I walked inside and notified the staff. A sorry was offered, but no efforts to move us inside. My daughter was trembling in her dress and jacket and my kids wanted to go home. I still wanted to salvage the dinner, since it was special for us, and we drove from out of town. I asked if we could move to a covered couch area outside. There was only one other couple outside who did the same. We sat and waited until the rain started blowing side way with the wind, making it impossible to stay dry. About an hour had passed and I went inside and asked for our food to be boxed up instead. It took another half hour, totaling an hour and a half of me sitting in the rain with my teen and toddler. I was handed the wrong bill initially, then handed my bill that was $150+ and paid and tipped. I did reserve patio seating, but I expected the restaurant to have some empathy for us and make an effort to move us inside since they took the reservation and it began raining so heavily. The other couple also left without their food. By the time we got home the food was cold and ordering a heart shaped pizza would have been funner for us. I wouldn't visit again. I have had great service at Morton's every time, I will continue to visit there. read more

The first time I had Willard Hicks was during their COVID takeout meals. It was the tastiest arrangement of food and I highly recommended them to everyone in the area. Now...it's like going to a BJs or Cheesecake Factory but worse and way more expensive. Food came out lukewarm, drinks tasted awful, and service was abysmal. Walking into the restaurant you would think a great experience would await, but nope. You'll get mediocrity in every direction. Disappointing. Came with my family, party of 3, and never received my food. My family was done with their meals before my food ever came out. Per our waitress, said there was a mix up in the kitchen and food was on its way. Well 20 minutes later, my food never showed. My family already had their to-go boxes before my food even came out. Even after requesting to speak to a Manager, which there wasn't one, spoke with another waiter who apologized and for bringing this matter to his attention to let the kitchen know. Asked if there was anything else he could do for me, but it's not about the comps. Just disappointed on the lack of customer service. Eventually brought the bill and "took off" my meal. We had dinner there last night and the burger was amazing! Very flavorful. However all the other food was not good. My wife had a New York steak and it looked as bad as it tasted. We think it was sous vide and then put directly on the plate, little to no seasoning. The Salmon was dry. If it wasn't for the burger this place would have gotten a 1 for the review. We had wine and I had and Old Fashion which was also really tasty. The waiter didn't look presentable (clothes looked dirty), needed to shave, not the right look for the place. Had no reservation, and were very lucky that they had one last table available for a party of 7 - albeit counter-high chairs. Worked very nicely for us. We ordered a few appetizers, and then entrées. Baked Brie Coconut Crusted Shrimp Cheese and Charcuterie Board (we requested them to remove all cured meats) And for entrées, we got Spicy Asian Mambo Steak Burger Poke New York Steak Grilled Swordfish The Baked Brie was just amazing. Served with some house chutney and two types of bread. Everyone loved it. The Charcuterie Board was a big hit on our table. The various types of cheeses, as well as figs, high quality dates (they had removed the pits), grapes, some sort of mustard chutney and candied walnuts. I ordered the Spicy Asian Mambo. It was not much spicy, but they had used an Asian sauce which made the flavor pop... The filet was nicely done. The burgers are actually huge. They had a big piece of filet meat in them, which makes them an interesting challenge to eat. Those who ordered them were barely able to finish half of their burger, and the rest went into to-go boxes. By the way, the French Onion soup is extremely filling and can function as an entire entrée. Swordfish was excellent. We requested spicy siracha sauce, which made the taste get even better. The service was very attentive and friendly. They were able to make several accommodations to the food as there were a couple of food sensitivities in our group. I had a disappointing lunch at Willard Hicks a few days ago. There was virtually nobody in the restaurant, which isn't good either. This means there are reoccurring problems that haven't been solved. We started with the coconut shrimp. Flavor was good. But unfortunately not crunchy. My entree was the Spicy Asian Mombo (or something like that). Sirloin pieces grilled and stir fried with vegetables. and served with a romaine salad. The stir fry had a weird sweet and sour flavor. No spice whatsoever. Lot's of bell/sweet peppers but no jalapeños which was in the menu description. The service was a travesty. Although only one other table in the place had a party of 4, our server couldn't be found. I am a frequent diner eating out 2-3 times per week. This was the worst service I've had in months. Why 2 stars and not one, my steak tips were served at the proper temperature which isn't easy on small cuts of meat. The hubby & I didn't celebrate Valentine's Day last night so we're celebrating Valentine's Day this evening. We hadn't been to Willard Hicks in quite some time so we decided to come here. We made reservations & were promptly seated when we arrived. I ordered The Abigail as a cocktail which was absolutely delicious. The hubby ordered the Pork chop w/the Macaroni & Cheese as his side dish. The pork chop was HUGE! It looked like a tomahawk steak. The hubs says, "It eats like a steak! It's delicious." His Mac & Cheese was great as well. It had a perfect balance of creaminess & cheese. He also loved the addition of pancetta mixed in the Mac & Cheese as well. He throughly enjoyed his V-Day dinner. I ordered the rib eye w/my side being the green beans. The Rib eye was one of the best rib eyes I've ever had in my life. It was tender. Flavorful. Thick. It was so incredibly good I told the waiter to please tell the chef it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. I stand by my statement. The green beans were very good as well. Awful. Just awful. Reservations at 7:30. Had to wait a half hour just to be seated! When we were seated, it was at a ridiculously small table for two. The music was so absurdly loud we couldn't hear anything! Our waiter, Captain Covid, also took a long time just to bring waters. The wine was good- so we'll give them that. We ordered the risotto and the ribeye medium rare and a starter of coconut shrimp. After waiting another 45 mins, the shrimp came out. With two glasses of wine and two water cups, there was barely any room for the shrimp plate. Couldn't help but enjoy the icy draft from the door! Thanks for that!! As for the food... unimpressed. Seems captain Covid couldn't hear the order over the bumping beats from the 80's. Steak came out medium well. The risotto... aside from the scallops was bland! How do you make bland risotto?? Willard Hicks for brunch - Limited menu, which is fine, but one of the party just wanted eggs ($6) and sausage($6) with country potatoes($6). WH served that as "sides" all on separate dishes even though they were ordered together. Why? It was clearly ordered as "the meal". It was just awkward. However, the breakfast sausage was amazing and the eggs were cooked as ordered. My mom, who will be visiting, loves a good coffee cake so I tried theirs; Coffee Cake served warm with butter. It was a nice size portion. The cake itself was light, and yummy. But it was served with a large lump of ice-cold, rock-hard, butter on top. At the end of the meal, the butter was still hard. That was truly a "just shut up and serve it" move. I ordered the crab cake benedict ($28). Benedicts are my go-to for testing a new place. Get the eggs poached correctly and nail the bearnaise and you got something. Nope. The poached eggs were way over cooked, the bearnaise was thin, the toast used as the base was very tough and chewy as if it had been microwaved. The potatoes for both dishes were undercooked and tough. The crab cake itself was ok. It was nice and crispy, but there was no lump crab meat. It was just another mediocre component of a failed dish. It was Sunday brunch but the place was nearly empty. So the errors were not due to an overwhelmed kitchen. We asked for some salt and pepper. Apparently at WH they do not use salt and pepper shakers. They brought a little dual sectioned sauce dish with salt on one side and pepper on the other. I guess you were supposed to use them Salt Bea style. I see the pros and cons. The shakers can get dirty, the seasoning can go stale, etc. It was just another awkward moment in the meal. This was my 4th trip to WH here in Morgan Hill. Other than a pretty damn good old fashioned, the food has been "meh". This trip was just more evidence of a lack of quality control and attention to details. The kitchen didn't check it. The pass didn't check it. The server carried it all the way to the table and put it in front of us anyway. That's 3 strikes. Talk about great food and service. I came here with my wife for our third anniversary and to also celebrate becoming homeowners in Morgan Hill. Given the difficulties for restaurants during COVID-19, Willard Hicks had a great patio setup. We were still able to book a reservation online and got a nice table close to heat lamps spread throughout the dining area. I'd say our server, Dominick, was the highlight of the evening. He was such a kind and attentive guy who made sure we laughed and enjoyed the evening. I noticed him handling the bar and also making sure the patrons were taken care of in the dining area. My wife ordered the sticky chicken and I ordered the steak burger - the best burger I've ever had in my life. The staff can make a great martini and they also have a nice whiskey/scotch selection.
