This BBQ chain is no longer black owned, which alarmed me when I walked into the Plano location. However, I'd still rate it 3.5 stars. Here's why! Service was good. The cashier was able to answer all of our questions and get our order placed confidently. She was like that with everyone I saw her work with. I'm big on customer service, so we're off to an awesome start! I pretty much ordered all the sides; green beans, baked beans, potato salad and mac n cheese. Along with brisket and ribs. The sides, except the potato salad, were delicious. Each had their own flavor and shocked me with each first bite. Even the mac n cheese was good. Not anything to praise but good enough to order repeatedly. The brisket I was on the fence about. Without the fat, it is EXTREMELY dry! But after eating a piece with fat and drowning it with their savory BBQ sauce and a couple pickles (all one bite, I should add) it livened the beef up. I shouldn't have to do all that but I digress. First...I picked this spot because I wanted greens. I get there and find out it got bought and they took them off the menu. I had already been waiting on my date who was stuck in traffic so I'm like let's just eat anyway. Brisket yum, ribs yum, sausage eww. Mac n cheese gross. Potato salad is more like slightly chunky mashed potatoes with pickle relish and when you bite into an actual potato it was hard. Baked beans were a disgrace. Green beans out the can with a lil seasoning. But the worst! That banana pudding! It made me throw up. It had a super weird artificial taste to it. Nothing on the menu we had was scatch made. Ugh even the sweet tea was gross. You can tell it's not filtered water and they don't even have lemon. They don't even have salt and pepper shakers. You have to open the utensil plastic to get seasoning. I was in the area and have read and heard about good and bad things about this place. The brisket was a little dry and the fat had not emulsified (indicating it has not cooked long enough), the sausage flavor was okay but its casing was so tough it was hard to cut and chew, the green beans were not well seasoned and a tad bland. Damn the loaded potato. It's enough to make all the other customers go "woah" and possibly change their orders. I've seen this pop up on Yelp several times since almost a year ago, but never committed to going until I saw a coworker come back to lunch with a to-go box. I went to Winners BBQ with my coworkers for lunch. We had a great experience! BBQ is, in my opinion, an intensely personal preference. Bark? No bark? Heavy smoke? Light smoke? Sauce? No sauce? To each his/her own, I say. And I also say that you can have lots of types of BBQ that you really really like, while also having BBQ that you really really love. Winners, for me, falls into the really really like category. It's nicely smoked, not too spicy and very little bark. The meat has plenty of fat (which I pull off, but like having when it's served so I know the meat isn't too dry). It's also really tender and moist - probably from all of that fat that's left on while smoking. You'll find Winners in the far eastern side of Plano, tucked into a nondescript shopping strip. I didn't realize it until we were leaving, but there's an outdoor seating area that allows you to get some fresh, non-smoked meat filled air while you're eating. (Next time!) If I were you, I'd go on the earlier side for lunch. The line got really intense after we arrived at 11:40. There's one register, and a super friendly order taker, but it still takes time to get to the counter to place your order. Prices are reasonable, particularly when you consider the portion sizes. The loaded baked potato is ridiculously large! I ordered the one meat plate, which came with two sides and a drink for $12. I had more than enough to eat to satisfaction and take half home for a later meal. I chose brisket - it's always what I pick the first time at a BBQ joint. Kind of the canary in the coal mine test, you might say, for whether I'll like the food or not. It was really wonderful (see above for why). Plus it didn't need sauce. Even though I grew up with KC Style BBQ, I prefer sauceless now that I'm older. But you'll want to try the sauce - it's slightly sweet, slighty peppery. Not spicy. It's great for a dab here and there. The mac and cheese was the most unique that I've had in some time, and certainly at a BBQ place. There were multiple types of cheese, plus plenty of pepper. It was a WINNER. Like I might order just that some time. The baked beans were ok, nothing to write home about but made for a pleasant side. They offer greens as a side dish on Saturdays and Sundays only - I'll definitely come back to give those a try. Anything that's offered for a limited time only tells me they put a lot of love and time into making. Must.Have. Here's an interesting twist also - they offer Free Beer on Fridays. In a can, dine in only, one beer only. Too bad we went for lunch and not dinner, or I might have grabbed one of the Modelos kept in ice. Great touch. This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall place with plenty of family love and time put into it and a great place to visit. I really enjoyed Winners and will be back. Couple slices of beef along side a pile of pork. Let's start with the pork. Well seasoned with salt and pepper. However very very dry. The brisket. Nice portioned thick slices of brisket. No discernible taste or appearance of a smoke ring. Once again the brisket was dry. Not as dry as the pork. The brisket was brittle. No elasticity to the meat whatsoever. The bark was well seasoned of salt and pepper but sadly this was NOT BBQ. If you close your eyes and bite into the brisket it's closer to Pot Roast than BBQ. No rich Smokey, sweet, or peppery flavors at all. The BBQ sauce was nice. Strong molasses flavor in the BBQ. All in all. It's okay. No way near the best I have every had. I lived 30miles from this location when I called them to explain their error and the fact I live 30miles from this location the worker asked if I can bring it back to either receive a refund or remake! I can't even get through have of this on my own. If they run out of an item you are out of luck, once it's gone it's gone for that day. They are very popular so get there early enough. Some relatives told us about this place and now that we've tried it we've been back about four times. Each time, we have had the fully loaded MVP baked potato with brisket. These potatoes are huge and covered with meat. In fact, we split them between two of us because it would be too much for one person to eat alone. These potatoes are served with a zesty barbecue sauce on the side. The potatoes have the traditional toppings of cheese and sour cream etc. and then are covered in the meat. A relative prefers the brisket barbecue sandwich and says it's also very good. This place is kind of hidden in a strip shopping center in the curve of a road where it would be easy to miss it if you didn't know where it was located.
