I love world gourmet. I go here all the time for the sushi, cheese rangoons, hot and sour soup and sio mai. My family and I always go here for family parties because of the service. Granted it's the ambiance is your typical Asian buffet, but it's pretty big. Sometimes I go here for lunch. In this case I went for dinner 40mins before they close. I attended a funeral reception here. Our group was 125+ people and we had the banquet room towards the front of the restaurant. It's Asian and American food with a lot of seafood dishes, including sushi. They had the Asian staples such as noodles and rice which were good. American type food was ribs, chicken fingers, and I believe I saw hot dogs. There is definitely a variety to choose from, and they also have a stir fry station. Some of my favorites were the dim sum, fried shrimp, and crab type dish in a shell. They have several fruits and desserts. They had my favorite- almond cookies. Also soft serve ice cream! Service in the room was quick with plates being bussed and refilling drinks. The restaurant is decorated nicely with a small water feature and koi fish. Great place for large events. read more

This is one of our go to buffets. We've been here many times. Held receptions here, parties, different birthdays. These are some of my all time favorites: crab legs (ask servers for butter), baked muscles, made to order soba noodles, crispy fried chicken wings, crab rangoons. They also have a good selection of kiddie foods like french fries, pizza and chicken nuggets. There's a sushi bar, a Chinese food bar with the classics, a cold bar with oysters, salads, and different fruits. There's a bar with a variety of desserts and cookies. The servers and front desk staff have always been nice to us. Last time we were there, I left my metal water bottle. When I realized the next morning, I called and the gentleman that answered immediately said he found it and kept it for me until I was able to return the following week since I don't live nearby. The ribs that they had were beef and the pork ribs were nasty Everything was not all up to far like I thought for the price at 2799 a person you would think that it was a taste bitter, but the taste here was not all that great. The clams were good. The crab was OK just was not happy with the food. I asked the person at the front about it and she said we can put fresh food out. Can we open the dinner up at four? It's been quite some time since I've been to World Gourmet Buffet. This last time I went for my niece's graduation party so I technically didn't pay for the meal and funny enough I didn't really eat much which was my loss I guess. L O C A T I O N World Gourmet Buffet is located on the corner of Stevenson Blvd. and Albrae St. There's a fairly sizeable parking lot but it is shared by other restaurants and shops in the same plaza. We came before the place opened to help with set up so we easily found a parking spot. When we left, it was pretty full but I think that's also because there were other large groups dining here. I N S I D E They had a tables inside for the main dining area and two larger rooms for larger parties: one in the front and the other in the back closer to the food. There were restrooms also inside. F O O D They basically have 5 separate setup areas for food. And they're pretty good about grouping similar items together. They have an area for sushi, mongolian bbq, chinese, desserts, and other items. They also have crab legs and shrimp if you're a person that likes that stuff. I stuck to the sushi and got some fries and chow mein this last time we went. I wish I got a chance to sample more food but I kind of ended up getting caught up in conversations. Anyways, the sushi wasn't bad at all. If you're into California based rolls. They're fairly sizeable too. The fries were crispy and seasoned. I kind of wish I got more. The chow mein was okay. Nothing to rave about. I did get a chocolate vanilla ice cream cone and although it was icy, I did appreciate they had sugar cones to put the ice cream in which was a treat. I also got a cream cheese wonton which was a little too full of cream cheese to my liking but perhaps other people like that it's filled. I wish the filling wasn't just cream cheese but I understand they want to cater to non meat eating folks. I didn't get any other dessert as they're the typical sheet cake items that I've seen at other buffets and they're not great to be honest. They did have fruit also and soups. I just didn't get a chance to eat any of it or even partake in the made to order mongolian bbq. S E R V I C E I felt like there could've been better refilling of water but I understand they were busy. But overall, folks cleared empty plates pretty quickly which was nice. I've been here twice before and I came here as soon as they opened with my father and brother while visiting in town for a funeral. Everything looked delicious and we couldn't wait to dive in. Out of everything we ate, the only thing that tasted good was the fried spring rolls and the dim sum. The rest of the dishes were either cold or lacked flavor. My least favorite was the sushi bar, especially the deep fried mystery surprise rolls. Other than that, the restaurant was clean and felt inviting. As for service, they could do better. Food wise they have a lot of options to choose from! My personal favorite are the sea shells! The crab legs are pretty good but I do wish there was more seasonings. I would say the fried dumplings or potstickers aren't the best but everything else is pretty much fine! It's just like any other buffet. We went to a friend's Celebration of Life at World Gourmet Buffet. They have a large parking lot so there are plenty of spaces. The decor is asian with a nice fish pond in the restaurant. The place is spacious, so a good place for large parties, receptions, etc. They offer chilled seafood, sushi, sashimi, dim sum, soups, mostly asian cuisines, fresh fruit, jello, and desserts. I traveled from the land of AYCE buffets, (Las Vegas,) and yet still I was incredibly impressed by the value offered at this buffet. I don't relate to the low average star rating here on Yelp. I LOVED my trip here, and stuffed myself silly. Especially the sushi selection! Every possible roll I could imagine, plus its fried twin, was available. All were fresh, and giant-sized generous portions. These weren't the typical mini rolls you find at most AYCE restaurants--they were huge! Again, I stuffed myself silly. What brought us here was cultural-specific traditions surrounding a death in our family. World Gourmet Buffet has a few large, private rooms available for rent. Ours was in the front and had a stage. Mostly we enjoyed our time together as a family, remembering our loved one and appreciating the blessings of life - including good food! Other awesome finds at thus buffet were mostly Asian-Fusion food, like lumpia and green beans stir-fried in a delicious sauce. There was a small Italian section, and desserts of course. The fries and pizza were solid, according to my son. When you first walk-in, there's a beautiful little fountain with a koi fish pond. If you have kids, they'll get a kick out of this. Ours sure did. The employees were even kind enough to offer some pellets for our sons to feed to fish. It was a lot of fun! Next time we visit to this area in California, we do plan on making a trip back here. I've heard lots of people rave about this place, and finally had the chance to try it ~1 month ago. Overall, the food was fine. Nothing spectacular. Watch out for the chow mein. At least on my visit, it tasted off and realized it tasted like cigarettes. This is a base dish and was a bad start to my meal. Chow mein aside, there were no other red flags. All of whom were waiting patiently and quietly. He walked off briskly without acknowledging anyone. I turned the corner thinking maybe, just maybe he doesn't look up much. He made eye contact with me as I attemped to lift my phone to show him the page and rudely waved me away while sharply saying, "I know I know, go back over there" and pointed to the front desk area. They ask how many people are at your party but they will only arrange tables for the number of people who walk in. We got a huge plate of food that consisted of dumplings, chow mein, sushi, chicken wings, orange chicken, mushrooms, and red bean paste desserts. The food tasted a bit bland and mushy and it what I would be expecting from buffet food but it satisfied my cravings for Chinese food. It was 2:15 - maybe one table was occupied. Majority of the food was stale and In the hour we were there, no fresh food was brought out. No-one was at the stir fry section. After requesting to have a stir fry cook from our server- who acknowledged but did nothing, i had to approach an employee at the sushi section to ask if he would do a stir fry. My suggestion is to only go there at the height of the lunch or dinner hours so the food will be fresh and the employees will actually earn their tips. read more

I should've since the chow mein they had already made was tasteless and hardly have anything in it. The fried rice next to it was dry and flavorless also. They were hot though like most dishes. Next to the hibachi station are some grilled meats like teriyaki chicken/wings, which I didn't know they had since I have gone here several times and never got the hibachi so I didn't seen them. I had 2 plates of hot foods, 1 plate of sushi and 1 plate of dessert. Not bad for $17.99 for lunch and I was stuffed. Service could've been better like refilling water and taking plates faster, they were more into talking to each other. It is not a big deal to me, I'm just here to eat lol, but I tipped 18% anyways. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE and save your money!! It was recently my grandfather's birthday so we decided to eat at a buffet. We saw the 2.2 stars this restaurant already had, but we assumed it would be good anyway. Firstly, right when we got seated, we were offered tea or water and the waitress didn't mention a charge for getting tea. Later, when the check came, they proceeded to charge us $2 for every person who got tea. When we tried to tell them that was unfair, they refused and charged us anyway. The food was also very mid. The way everything is displayed makes it seem like it is all warm and steamy, but when we sat down to eat, the food was super cold, and also bland. When we couldn't finish our first round of plates, we wanted to be more open minded about all the food, so we left our table to look at other options. My sister and I then proceeded to watch a worker pour frozen shrimp, with the liquid from a plastic bag, straight into the food container. The food was cold and burnt at the same time, and I was very disappointed by the taste of the seafood. The chow mein was hard as a rock, and I could not finish my plates. If you have any taste for Chinese food, please do yourself a favor and avoid this place. I was invite there for lunch. The food was truly horrible. Steamed oyster was tasteless with a soft tofu texture (no, oysters shouldn't taste like that). Beef ribs was chewy with a musky smell like goat. Fried crabs were mushy, which was a telltale sign that they were not fresh or it was frozen but was not cooked right after it was defrosted. The trays of sashimi were random piles of fish. I did not dare to touch them. I narrowed down my choices to the utmost basic - gai lan (stir fried Chinese vegetables), some fish filet cooked in chill broth, fried spring roll, which was a little gooey inside and assorted fried seafood. That was just enough for a meal that I felt safe to eat. The ambiance was a mash-up of a factory cafe, backroom of a banquet hall and a hole-in-a-wall dive in some old downtown. The washroom was covered with graffiti. Service was prompt, which a bright spot because it helped us leave as quickly as possible. There are just so many alternatives in the Bay Area than eating in World Gourmet Buffet. Do not eat there. read more
