My friends and I came here for my bachelorette party and it was okay. My biggest complaint would be that the service took a long time. The place was not very busy and we noticed a group that had the same amount people as us got their drinks and food before us even though they ordered and came in after we ordered. I don't know why some of our drinks were taking a while but it was a bit frustrating. In addition, some of the items on the menu were not how we expected the food to come out. For example on the appetizers we got the spicy wontons and they weren't spicy at all. Also the spicy cucumbers on the menu had barely any kick. It was good food it was just interesting that it says spicy and it wasn't spicy. The positives: the waiter was extremely accommodating to various allergies my friend has. This was my second time dining at WuChow. It has been a couple years since I've been back. I started off with a really yummy margarita and hot green tea. For appetizers we got the beef pot stickers and soup dumplings which were so good. My favorite part of the meal was the beef chow fun - omggg I would come back just for this dish. It is an absolute must. The noodles were delish and the beef was so flavorful. Came here for the first time for my fiancés birthday. We've heard amazing things and it definitely lived up to the hype! Traditional Chinese cuisine is normally not my favorite but this was absolutely delicious! Every dish was served hot and fresh. The pork soup dumplings and hot and sour soup were great ways to start and I absolutely loved the mandarin beef with a bit of spice added. The chicken and beef noodles were pretty good too but a little salty for my personal preference. Be aware that if you don't make a reservation you'll have to sit at the bar, outside, or a high top and the food can take a bit to come out. Wu Chow is one of my favorite places to go for date night! Their food is surprisingly really authentic and flavorful. Though they are on the slightly pricier side, I say its definitely worth it for the dining experience, service, and quality of food. Some of my favorites here are the spicy sichuan wontons, soup dumplings, green beans, and pork dumplings. The beef chow fun is also really good here and they're also super generous with the meat they add to their dishes. I recently went for their Valentine's day menu and tried their lobster fried rice which was also pretty good but portion was smaller than i expected - but worth because they put a LOT of lobster in there so the price is justified imo. Would definitely come back here to try their full dimsum menu and other menu items! Atmosphere. Now when we first got to the place, I was a little annoyed. The hostess did not ask if we wanted to sit inside or outside and just automatically sat us outside. It was very hot and humid outside. The outdoor sitting does have fans however it wasn't doing much good. Since the food comes out steaming hot! I would recommend sitting inside instead of outdoor sitting, especially in this hot Texas weather. Omg the FOOD!! Let's start off with the egg rolls, I was sad it only had three, but it was absolutely delicious! The Plum sauce that comes with the egg rolls is a must! I saved it to eat throughout my meal. Lion Head meatballs comes with a bowl of rice; delicious; my best description would be an Asian version of salisbury hamburger steak in a bowl. The other plate ordered was Two Faced Crispy Noodles. The food was delicious, and it is a very welcoming restaurant. They do a great job with gluten free. We took my son and his fiancé there to celebrate their engagement, we had just flown in that day. The staff is nice but they seemed very stressed and at many times distracted. I thought everything seemed kind of rushed and funny thing the couple next to me complained about the same and the manager came out to apologize to them. I ordered the Gai Lan vegetable and they brought out Baby Bok Choi instead. I told them they got the wrong order but he stated that they ran out of Gai Lan. I wish the waitress who took my order would've told me that because Gai Lan is actually a more expensive vegetable and they charged me the same price. When we finished, I asked for the check 3 times. The salt and pepper squid was a little on the salty side for my taste but to their defense, I did request for them to leave off the chili which would have balanced it. Overall delicious meal! We visited Austin for my friend's bachelorette & birthday! Thought the place had good reviews so we made a reservation here for dinner a month out. Got a call the morning of and was told we were being seated outside... ok it was about 39 degrees but they insisted we would be right under the heater. The heater was placed about 7 feet above us and was so small it barely did anything. The food was hit or miss. The chili oil had almost an almond biscotti taste and not much spice. Therefore made the marinated cucumbers and the old fashion taste a bit off. Other than that, the food overall was ok. The portions are very small for what you pay so not everything's bigger in Texas. I would give 10 stars if I could. I LOVE this restaurant and every person who works there. Their happy hour is phenomenal and the regular menu is stellar. The staff is pure perfection, specifically Ireland, one of the best servers I've ever had, and Johnny who is an amazing bartender! The whole staff deserves a shout out, they are genuinely phenomenal whether you're just dining or going for happy hour, all of them are so kind. Massively disappointing. Most of the dishes we ordered were so salty and they use way too much corn starch in the sauces. The soup dumplings and green beans were good but that's where it ends. The crispy noodles weren't even close to being crispy, it was a goopy oversalted mess. All the other dishes ranged from ok to poor. Constantly biting into whole sichuan peppercorns isn't pleasant either, and they use a lot of it. The service was what really made us hate this place. The food came out fast but our waiter did a great job of disappearing for long periods of time. We only saw him when we ordered and when he handed us the bill. Not a good sign when you have to ask other waiters or busboys for things. The decor and dining room is beautiful but the food and service is seriously lacking. It was way too much food for only 3 people but we had some leftovers so it was fine. I already mentioned the green beans but the squid (fried so similar to calamari), dumplings, and crispy sesame beef were so good too! I didn't eat any of the fried rice this time because I was too full but my friends really liked it. I've been 3 times and I will absolutely go back. Cost $88 total to pick up these, two entrees (they charge $20 for a small ass portion) and a cocktail ($18 for a caprisun amount) and they so graciously gave us the smallest serving of rice imaginable. The place looks cool ambient wise so I think it'd be fun to sit down here on a nice night so it's probably worth it if you want to have a cool little date night and waste a ton of money on Chinese food you could get anywhere else. Came on a Sunday for dim sum brunch with a reservation we put in a few days in advance. There's free street parking on Sunday's too. We sat on the patio which was dog friendly and had heaters. No TVs on the outside. There was a specific menu for dim sum with about 20+ options. Everything we tried was great! Just kind of small. Soup dumplings were by far the best thing. Get an order of Dan Dan noodles to at least have as a dipping sauce for things, out items over the top. Drinks were also on point. The only one I didn't care for was the 17 thirdier, had a black licorice flavor. We did have to wait a while for one of the shrimp dumplings but they compensated us with a free round of shots. Just on the pricier side but the service definitely made up for that. Felt very comfortable here during covid. Bathrooms were spotless which always has bonus points in my book, especially when in downtown Austin. read more

I really wanted to like Wu Chow given all the hype by I'd seen on social and one of the few places that offered dim sum dishes. Sadly though it was a bit of a let down. Roast duck with tortilla like pancakes? I know we're in Texas but a little authenticity to the craft is welcome. Atmosphere: In terms of theming the place was great. Looked like a modern scaled Chinese restaurant with decor to theme. My party sat out on the patio so we didn't get a full immersive inside experience but from what I saw it was fine. Food: Ooof the big hitters for this score. First off the soup dumplings which I imagine is one of the more popular dishes tasted too doughy. Dumplings encompass a combination of flavors, and unfortunately the breading overwhelmed the overall experience. The price too didn't help its case. The nail in the coffin though for me was their roast duck which may only be offered during Lunar New year time. The duck was roasted and had a good texture, but little flavor in terms of seasoning, the real culprit was that the breading that my party was served literally looked and felt like tortilla bread. Traditionally roast duck is served with duck pancakes or bao sandwich bread. The breading offered was just simply too big for what was offered of the duck as well as too thick and made for an overwhelming bread flavor instead of the actual dish. The crispy chicken was okay too just not a lot of seasoning. The one thing though my party and I enjoyed and thought was done well was the Two-Faced Crispy Noodles seafood. A nice combination of seafood and noodles with vegetables that had just enough crunch and gravy. Service: Service was great, everyone was attentive and our server was very nice and tried to make her own suggestions. Understandably dishes don't have to be 100% authentic in order to be 'enjoyable' and at the same time this comparison can only be made if there is a base and past experience to compare it to, so others judgement may vary. However, with that said, when it is marketed as being 'authentic' food that simply in my experience is just not true. Someone without past or different experiences of Chinese food may think otherwise, as the food was certainly 'acceptable', but for me I may suggest elsewhere to dine. read more

This place was DELICIOUS. When visiting Austin, I kept doing my research looking for yummy spots to try, and it seemed like Wu Chow made every list, so we figured - let's do it! And man am I glad we made it here. All of the food we tried was amazing, specifically the fried rice, spicy fried chicken, sesame steak, and the honey walnut shrimp were so so so good. Really nice ambience and gorgeous restaurant. The staff were all friendly and quick. The spicy wontons were a hard pass. Aside from the lack of filling, the sauce didn't have much flavor and was really salty. The Singapore noodles were good but I don't think it is that great of value. Although it comes with generous ratio between noodles to meat, the meat besides the shrimp were on the tougher side. The soup dumplings took me by surprise. Despite them having probably the thickest wrapper I've ever had in a soup dumpling, the broth was delicious and the serving size of the side sauce & vinegar was perfect. I'd come back for these! I'm not crazy about eggplant but this dish was cooked perfectly. It wasn't too sweet and is a large portion. This place is packed with people so it is good to make reservations so you do not have to wait extended amount of time to dine here. My first time dining at Wu Chow and the service is excellent. Tables and seats are clean. Atmosphere and music was good but this place does get pretty busy and at times can be loud. Reservations was at 11:30am on Sunday so that I can try their dim sum. To my surprise at 11:30am they were out of many dim sum which I thought was strange because dude... Wu Chow opened at 11am. Really 30 minutes and you sold out many of your dim sum dishes on the menu? To me that was really unacceptable for a place that sell dim sum but I brushed it off and continue on. I ordered Shrimp & Cilantro Dumplings, Shrimp Stuffed Eggplant, Chicken and Shiitake Shumai, shrimp and pork shumai, and Johnny's Jungle Juice. Out of those four dim sum I loved the shrimp stuffed eggplant the most! Honestly that shrimp stuffed eggplant was the best I've ever had in my life and I have tried many! That eggplant was cooked perfectly and that black bean sauce was bold flavorful Unami and just... WOW. The shrimp stuffed in the eggplant texture was right on point of chewiness it's suppose to have. I would definitely order this dish again! For the other dim sum, pork and shrimp shumai, chicken shittake shumai and shrimp cilantro dumplings was seriously lacking flavor. Not the best shumai I've had and the size of the shumai was a little smaller than normal. I thought for the higher price it was going to be unique but sadly was disappointed. The Johnny jungle juice was really delicious and I would highly recommend that drink. Refreshing and perfect for brunch! Towards the end of our dining experience our waitress told us a few of the items we wanted that was "out of stock" might be available if we wanted to order.. we said sure why not try it out since we are already here so put in the order Panfried Chicken Bao, Shanghai Pork Soup Dumplings, and Egg Custard Tart. We had to wait another 20 minutes for those items to come out. Unfortunately when those items came out all was a let down. It wasn't anything that stood out. The pan fried chicken bao was lacking in flavor but the bun was soft. The Shanghai pork soup dumplings had an itty bit tiny bit of meat inside and the broth was sour. It was the worst soup dumplings I've ever had in my life. Based on my sole experience on the authenticity, food flavors, service, and price vs quality of dim sum this is why I am giving this place two stars. We paid $25 for parking just to dine at Wu Chow. We parked in the parking garage directly across from Wu Chow. Overall a good experience. Most notable was the friendliness of ALL the staff, that really stands out. Well done to the team. Food was good but I was disappointed when the items that said they were spicy were not spicy at all and tended to all run on the sweet side. Not my favorite. That being said everything was delicious. My only complain was I ordered a specific wine that they show they carries from 3 different countries Didn't like it too much but that's a chance you take. I later found out that the wine was not what I ordered a was from the region I know I don't like. Our annual Xmas dinner where we go all out and we did! Our server was terrific! Knew all about wines and dishes. Started with pork soup dumplings and they were hot, juicy and delicious! Followed that up with chicken dumplings and they were good, but not as good as the pork dumplings. Ordered the beef dish, some cabbage, mushrooms & bok choy.... Very yummy! Then the duck. I realize it is brined, but it was sooo salty that it was inedible. Sent back. More beef. $120 bottles of wine later and we were satisfied.
