SO and I came here on a Saturday evening around dinner time. There was only a few people in the store waiting for drinks, so we felt comfortable asking the guy who worked their for recommendations. He answered all of our questions and gave us his suggestions based on what we liked. SO ended up ordering the cheese foam grape tea, which he said he liked, but probably wouldn't get again because he didn't like the cheese foam that much. I got the jasmine tea with cheese foam and very much enjoyed that. Their drinks are fairly standard and tasty, and I'm glad we stopped by. We also got the matcha tiramisu which was good, but the cake part was a bit dry. Yan Tea offers some of the most authentic and unique experiences of boba drinks in the Seattle area. Most of the menu doesn't really offer milk tea as its focus, like many boba places around here. Instead, there is a focus on dessert-y and fruity flavors. A big plus for this place is that in many drinks, there is no additional sugar syrup added into the drink and the sweetness all comes from the black sugar boba. This is perfect for us because we always have to adjust our sweetness level to 50% at other boba places. Here, we don't need to at all and the drink is sweet and flavorful enough for us. We got the purple yam black sugar boba milk. This is a really cool drink because you can taste the texture of the purple yam and adds a really nice depth of flavor to this dessert-y drink. But first off, I would like explain that a $3 food walk event happened this past Saturday on 10/02 to celebrate the grand opening of the U District Station. As such, all participating local businesses had extremely long wait times and were crowded, not because this place has poor management. Drinks are interesting and not quite the same as the rest of the tea franchise in Seattle. We tried their tiramisu latte and green grapes slush, both tasted good and we weren't drown in sugar (these two flavors can be easily over sweetened). The place is a bit hard to find (a hole in the wall kind of thing) but if you pass by, they are worth trying. I would stick with sugar free or 30% sugar. read more

If you crave HeyTea like I do on a daily basis, you understand the pain of not being able to find quality cheese+fruit tea type of boba in the area. I'm not saying that Yan Tea fills that void, but it's the better alternatives until HeyTea enters the arena. Cheese + grape + crunchy boba is my go to. I've tried other combinations too (peach, watermelon, etc) and they were all decent. It's been a while since I visited, but out of all the times I visited, they seem to be running out of something every time. Sometimes it's the crunchy boba. Sometimes it's a particular fruit. I think being tucked away from the Ave makes it hard for students to walk all the way there, and that's why they're more cautious about the supply. Also... why did this place "close for renovation" twice since it opened? Make sure to check your google maps before heading there. I've been here twice now (once in Jan 2020 and once in March 2020). Service was great -- the man (who I think is the owner?) was super helpful in answering my questions. Both times I had a purple yam drink, which I liked fairly well. First, I don't know of any other places where you can order a purple yam drink in Seattle (I've had them in Vancouver, but not Seattle). So, points for offering that! I feel like the drink has tons of potential but it wasn't ideal for a few reasons...1) There is a ton of purple yam in each drink which is great that they are generous, but... it's super filling and VERY thick -- it sticks to the side of the cup and if you're not careful to mix, you will have drank all the liquid and be left with a bunch of purple yam at the end. Also, even if you mix it, the purple yam does get to be a bit overwhelming (in my opinion) 2) the tapioca was a bit too hard/chewy for my tastes.. both times the tapioca was about the same texture -- just a bit too hard/chewy vs. soft chewy compared to other places. I haven't tried the fruit drinks or the souffle cake yet so will potentially come back for that, but will probably skip the purple yam next time. read more

After finding that this place has weird hours I decided to try this spot since I was in the area. The place was clean and the menu was simple and had pictures. Service was good, drinks were great. The strawberry was the best, the matcha was on the bitter side, could have more syrup/sugar, the boba was the best part, largest boba I've had in Seattle. Yan tea is at a very interesting location near Roosevelt. There's place to sit but very small, can't fit more than 8 people at once. They have like 4 lines of drinks ( milk tea, yogurt, fruit tea, coconut) and each line has like about 4 varieties. They have some very interesting and unique toppings in each drink. Giving this a higher star rating because of how much my roommate raves about it, but personally was not my favorite. I got the brown sugar taro/purple sweet potato boba, and since we ordered through the online app (only available in Chinese) it didn't have any milk customizations, which ended up being the downfall of it for me. I really didn't like how creamy it was, and it really did taste like I was drinking heavy cream instead of tea. The boba was really interesting though, with both small and large boba at the bottom! Black sugar boba was nice and chewy, and I could actually taste the black sugar flavor. My hubby is more of a fruit tea fan so he got the only non-milky item on the menu, the 3 Lime Black Tea. New boba place next to Amazing Thai! I thought all the season flavors right now went great with the purple yam! I love how this shop uses actual taro in their drinks (there's slightly stringy pieces but that's just the taro!) as my throat doesn't get that filmy coating I often get when I drink powdered flavor drinks. The black sugar boba yam which was just the right amount of subtle sweetness. The kyoto matcha yam was smooth and didnt have the powdery texture that I've had in the past with other matcha drinks. The oreo yam didnt skimp out on the oreo pieces at all! I, and the rest of my family, also loved the Crème fruit tea! They also come with fresh fruit, and they don't skimp out either. If you want to taste more tea I'd suggest pairing with oolong but if you want want to taste the fruit more then pair with black. I have yet to try the green tea. I've always ordered with 75% sugar which is the right amount of sweet but not overpowering. Even my mom who doesn't like sweets likes their tea and the sugar level! The creme has a nice sea salty taste which I love with the tea. Honestly overall I love this place! They have outlets if you ever want to study and the owners are super duper nice! My friends and I decided to give this place a try because of all the positive review, and I can surely say I was not disappointed. I got the matcha yam tea, and it definitely was unique. Always looking to find new places and this boba place slipped between the cracks since it's not located on the busy ave. Despite that, one would think, yet ANOTHER boba place? Yup! Despite the boba saturation Yan Tea is able to make a name for itself with varied flavors that are very distinct and colorful. I'm glad they try to integrate flavors that other places do not have to stand out. They play with flavors like tiramisu, grape, purple yam, peach, and many more. I ordered the coconut lychee tea with crunchy boba since they were out. Real tasty and had a bit more coconut milk but over all tasty. Also got the Jasmine milk tea and that was good as well since the tea flavor came out more pronounced. I'd also say don't be shy about the "cheese" flavor. May sound weird but it's branded as mustache foam, milk foam, creme, or whatever combo. The boba cano-cake is such a pleasant treat to share with your friends! The fresh and light milk foam reduces the sweetness of the boba, while the chiffon soaked up the moisture of milk foam and soften the cake even more. The flavor was good, and the sweetness was appropriate (a tad on the sweet side). The main drawback was the boba, which was wayyyy too mushy. I like the idea of mixing the traditional sized ones with mini ones to create a different "texture", but the mini ones were much mushier than the regular sized ones. Currently, Yan Tea is being considerate of their customers and employees health by have limited hours and pick up orders only (so take this into consideration). After finally managing to catch them on their pick up order hours, my girlfriend and I ordered their famous boba tea. As boba fanatics, we were very excited to go and try this new place. The good: The environment was super clean and very aesthetic, if you want good pictures this is the spot. The prices were on par with everyone else and having one size drinks made it easier for me. Proportions were fair for the boba and having a lot of boba is definitely a plus. Unfortunately, after trying the boba, we were not so impressed. The Vintage Black Sugar boba tasted like milk with water whilst the Matcha left us with itchy throats. The boba itself (tapioca) was very chewy and left an after taste. Additionally, the boba left me with a headache. Whether it was because of their change of staff/hours or me simply not drinking enough water, this was my experience. They have extensive menu, but besides the yam drinks, the rest of their menu that I had sips of was pretty generic, making it a bit expensive for the quality. For hanging out, there is standing space and they allow you to chill in the area, despite pandemic. There is a constant stream of HungryPanda and Fantuan orders from this place, so perhaps the lack of line can be deceiving. ~ Purple Yam Boba with Salted Egg Topping (4/5). The yam flavor was strong, which was good -- the body of the drink is plain milk, and you MUST stir in the toppings otherwise you'll literally just be drinking milk. I asked to adjust sugar, but was told the drink technically has no sugar, which was a little surprising. I found out quickly though that because there is a lot of cream and sweet ube paste, that flavors the drink and makes it sweet. The salted egg topping was fully lost under the heaviness of the ube paste. ~ Strawberry Milk Smoothie with Jello and Cream (3/5). This drink is huge, but the drink itself is fairly light -- I easily finished it as it was more refreshing than heavy, especially on a hot day. The top is simply strawberries and whipped cream, but because the bottom is just a smoothie, the topping doesn't blend well into the rest of the drink and is purely there for aesthetic. So this is probably an extremely overdue post but I gotta say that their tea is top notch. Service is great too! Last time I went, I got an oolong tea which I asked for half sugar and no ice. When I got it, it was too sweet so I just asked for a cup of unsweetened tea. Instead of doing that, the owner automatically said I'll just give you a new cup even though I said it's really okay. Seattle has been wanting for fresh fruit teas and specialty drinks like purple ube and dirty matcha and WE FINALLY HAVE IT. This aesthetic af new bubble tea cafe with pastries opened up recently in the UDistrict. I tried their Crema Grape and it was delicious. Chunks of fresh grape throughout topped with a salty crema with real cream cheese. Everything about it screams yum. Also got to try their cheesecake and it was delicious. I believe it is the japanese souffle cheesecake and they do it so well! It's cheesy and creamy but still light. Definitely recommend this place. More and more cheese Tea places are opening in Seattle. When it comes to good cheese Foam (not sea salt crema) Yan tea has some of the best in Seattle. Its not sea falt foam advertised as cheese foam and its not cream cheese either. They have mostly special drinks with a few basics. The owner is very nice and their style of having purple yam as a topping is different. I would recommend to use the straw and scrap down and around to get the yam off the cup. I got their matcha with purple yam. I would probably recommend the Oreo would be better tasting. Also, IT ALREADY COMES WITH BOBA! my bf got the oolong tea with the creama.
