I want to preface this 3-star review by saying that this is specifically about Yanagi's sashimi plates. Everything else is for sure 4-5 stars! I have been frequenting Yanagi Kitchen in Long Beach for the last 8 months and I have really been enjoying their food. The quality of their fish is fantastic and the staff is very friendly, which is why I feel bad leaving this review on Yelp, but unfortunately I couldn't find a contact email on their site and their Instagram doesn't look very active, so I'm leaving this review in hopes that Yanagi's management sees this. Over the last 3 weeks the sashimi I have been ordering from Yanagi has been very disappointing. It seems like the fish portions got cut in half and the attention to detail and preparation of the sashimi plates is being done by someone who either has very little experience or doesn't care at all about the presentation of the dishes. It almost looked as if the salmon was missing. The fish was cut paper thin and avocado was bruised and frankly, not that tasty. Think scallop dynamite but so much better. Thanks expected a mayonnaise style sauce and there was some, but not the main thrust. I am completely obsessed with this place! I came across it on Door Dash when I was craving sushi and decided to give it a try. I never thought I would genuinely enjoy takeout sushi because I'm such a snob when it comes to sushi restaurants but this place has exceeded my expectations. My friend and I ordered takeout from here and we were very pleased with our experience! We got the Alaskan Roll, Spicy Scallop Roll, Baked Salmon Roll, and Crunch Roll. Everything was packaged in their own individual containers and neatly stacked. The cashier was super friendly and sweet, making sure we had all our utensils and condiments on hand before leaving the store. The store itself was really small and compact, it looked more to be a pick up and go establishment. The rolls were absolutely delish. We practically inhaled them! My favorite was the spicy scallop roll, which was what I picked out anyway. I might have meant to get the baked scallop roll initially, but that's okay. It hit the spot and did not miss. Juicy scallops smothered in spicy mayo/sriracha sauce wrapped into a rice roll that was made to delightfully melt in your mouth. The Crunch Roll and Alaskan Roll were glorious as well, super fresh and flavourful! The end result was two very satisfied people induced into a sushi coma, but smiling contently as we slipped into sweet slumber (food coma nap). I've had this for lunch for take out and it was so tasty that I wanted to take this home for takeout for a Friday night dinner with my wife. I was eager to share the food with her after a week hard long's work. Both times I ordered online and the process was fast and easy. There are pictures on the online menu so you could see what exactly the food item would look like. The food is nicely packaged and they include wasabi and ginger on the side. My wife absolutely loved it. Her favorite was the 8 pc sushi special set while I really liked the yellowtail cilantro roll.
