My husband and I stopped for breakfast one Sunday morning. We were afraid and almost kept going. So so happy we took our chances. Tables were bussed quickly and there was no wait. No surprises here -- the restaurant's interior, adorned with ridiculously jingoistic artifacts (such as a bumper sticker saying 'Boycott France' stuck to a model of The Statue of Liberty!) is depressing in a David Lynch kind of way. The food is almost laughably greasy, yet despite that it's still somewhat flavorless. Our waitress seemed angry, and at one point just threw a basket of fries down on the table without saying a word. We can't seem to eat here without getting sick. It's a typical greasy spoon. The decorations are kitschy. The service is hit or miss. We are local and gave it multiple tries but will likely not be back any time soon. Don't let the cars in the parking lot fool you. Went in for breakfast this morning and the prices were double from anywhere we'd been in 30 years. $12.99 for a scramble? We had a cup of very good coffee for $2.50 EACH and left. I love eating breakfast at the Yankee Doodles Cafe. The food is terrific and the atmosphere is a welcome relief. If you're an intolerant, uptight Californian who thinks that the world has to be one color (the one that you identify with), you should come here to see how other Americans live. We love this place. The food is far from frozen gas station food as someone who couldn't handle the decor said. We had a wonderful Reuben sandwich with great sweet potato fries. If you are afraid of real Americans stay away. I couldn't have felt safer and only hope they actually have a loaded gun around in case a nut comes in. We're from California so this place was very refreshing to us, a place that actually respects its country and its laws. Stay away if you're a wimpy liberal who doesn't like our country's laws, you'll just get indigestion before the food is even served. Stopped on a Sunday morning it was pretty packed. We got all in and sat down pretty quick. Food was pretty good. The pancakes were okay but the eggs and hash browns were really good. Here is where it went down hill. The coffee place next door sucks. Well you can order it at the restaurant and they'll bring it to your table or you can walk over and order it, since our food was taking longer we walked over and PAID for our coffee. When we went to pay they asked what kind our coffee was. I said we already paid for that. She pretty much questioned us again about how we paid for it So I had to get pissy with her. By the way the mocha was disgusting and we left them in the table anyway. read more

Three of us came in for dinner after a long drive. I have been in lots of small towns and many times they food is suspect. Not here! We were found the interior inviting with patriotic paraphernalia adorning every inch of the walls keeping in the theme of its namesake. The waitress was also friendly and very capable. As for the food, we ordered the mushroom Swiss burger, chicken fried steak, and the Hawaiian burger. The food was good and in particular my wife found her order of the chicken fried steak to be quite yummy! It had the perfect crunch and was not soggy. The Mushroom Swiss burger was good and was very satisfying. We found the Hawaiian burger to be average. We also ordered a pitcher of Fat Tire beer from the tap finding that it was very reasonably priced. Shortly upon ordering, we were served a large and full pitcher along with two full glasses with the perfect amount of foam! read more

Food was okay, what you'd expect. Portions were large, coffee wasn't so great (weak and watered down tasting). Servers were friendly. Typical diner spot. I thought it was cute that they had signs up at the tables for boxed lunches to go--that's always nice when you're traveling. Decor is wildly "Patriotic" hence the name. Service was OK, not great, but not the worst. Coffee... order tea instead. We had breakfast dishes. Eggs, sausage, hash-browns, omelette, all looked great, but had NO flavor. In fact, I think if you were blindfolded you wouldn't be able to tell what was what. It was not "bad" as in spit it out, just tasteless. So if you just need calories, and can't taste or don't care. Prices were cheap, and this would fit the bill. read more

Not a welcoming place. My wife and I had lunch there during a bicycle tour through the area. At first glance the place seemed charming enough. Many patriotic signs cover the walls. Flags were everywhere. The menu was diverse and when I asked questions about interesting items the waitress basically said she did not know about the food she served and was not willing to find out and tell me. I ordered a basic salad to be safe. It was fine. I did notice while waiting for the food that all of the TVs displayed Fox news and several signs ridiculed liberal political thought. I guess this place believes patriots can only think like they do. When I read the sign that "dirty hippies should leave" I wondered if the poor service was because of my hair in a ponytail and a tie-dye shirt. read more
