Had lunch here today and let me just say we will be back! It was delicious! Everyone inside was super nice, and the food was so fresh and delicious I can't stop thinking about it! We got the Falafel pita sandwich and chicken peri peri burger with fries. Everything came out hot and cooked to perfection. I also got a side salad (and sadly did not take a picture because I was already eating it up!) which had spiralized radish, beets and carrots! It was so fresh and tasty! Order the falafel sandwich made fresh to you order. falafel were light and flavorful with a homemade red sauce that had a little kick that complimented it so well that I ask for a little bit more. This is not the easiest place to find but well worth the effort. They are located in Matthews on E. Johns St. next to the post office and across the street from Mac's Speed Shop. They are sharing a space with Fullwood Market which is in the back of the same building as White Duck Tacos. I ordered the Royal Fonio and Quinoa Tabbouleh. Both were delicious. Royal Fonio is a mixture of roasted vegetables (eggplant, butternut squash, zucchini, and yellow squash). The vegetables sit on a bed of Fonio which is an ancient grain from West Africa. It is similar to couscous but smaller. The dish is topped with a mixture of roasted onions and golden raisins. The Tabbouleh was fresh and bright. This place offers real food that is nutritious and delicious. Fake meat and cheese has its time and place but you won't find it a Yanni Bistro. The register worker seemed annoyed with everyone ordering, and we saw him ignore people coming in as they seemed overwhelmed. There was maybe 4 tables of people. We asked for to-go boxes as our food arrived because we needed to leave, and they pushed back, asking us to eat some first. We finally got some foil as they didn't have any to go containers. The food was great. Parking free and easy. The two stars removed are due to my personal preferences. First, there is no wait person; you have to go to counter, study menu board. In a restaurant, I want to and am willing to pay to be waited on. Second, they didn't take cash, they have a credit card machine which requires you to pay in advance plus add a designated tip! and this is before you get your food and remember, you placed your order yourself at the counter, no wait person involved to earn a tip. and Finally, you want iced tea or a soda? OMG! This place in downtown Charlotte, Philly, or NYC would be making the top ten. Menu for breakfast looks good but we got lunch and it was great. Fonio tabouleh was amazing - hot sauce was subtle and locally sourced peppers from the farmers market across the lot. Amazing subtle taste not the usual ball of falafel and thick sauce. Yanni special was a great find. Cafe with a shop that sells unique selected products from Northern Africa, France and who knowns where. Left with a bag of fonio, a gluten free grain from North African grasses - what they make the tabouleh from. Had the cheesecake and it was amazing. I got the Aubergine Falafel Pita (which is vegan) and took the host's recommendation to add hot sauce. It was amazing, though it would have still been delicious without it. What a wonderful surprise! Fresh food made by a passionate chef. I had the fonio tabouli- not even sure it was on the menu, but the chef gave me some samples of things and I loved it! Spiral cut beets, carrots, fresh mint, etc- it was delicious! On the side I ordered the hummus with artichokes on top. Although my preference is for creamier hummus rather than thick- it was tasty and when I said I didn't want pita I was given carrot sticks instead. In addition- the market sells a variety of interesting drinks and the menu has something for everyone. So happy to have a place like this in Matthews! read more

Visited this small café/restaurant today for an early dinner with my husband got to have an interesting conversation with Chef Yanni, who is very passionate about farm to table and healthy eating. His food was locally sourced and delicious. Everyone should have the chance to speak with Chef Yanni and eat his delicious and healthy food. Blessed by this encounter today.! Both my husband and I had the falafel salad and a hummus platter, which was both fresh subtly flavored with quality ingredients. If we had more time here in Matthews / Charlotte, we'd come back again, too. The owner (possibly Yanni?!) is SO kind and helpful. Everything on his menu is made-to-order. We had omelets and they were so perfectly cooked and filled with fresh roasted veggies. I tried the peanut butter explosion dessert (what a name) and it was amazing and so so rich. The menu is also very eclectic / global and features all kinds of cuisines. There is a focus on vegan/vegetarian, gluten-free, etc. so that's always nice! Definitely worth a stop. This little spot is a hidden gem. Owned by this gentleman named Yanni who uses only fresh ingredients and only the best ingredients. It is located right behind white velvet taco in the spot that I guess used to be the Fullwood market. Super delish! And sweet owner and staff. Yanni recommended the Tabouli with Fonio. I'd never heard of fonio - it's a magic grain from Africa. The Tablouli had amazing ingredients like pomegranate and mint and beet juice. Had it with lettuce instead of pita. So good and I'm totally full. I have spent the past few hours raving about Yanni Bistro! The restaurant was spotless upon our arrival and we had our choice of seats in the most inviting, welcoming environment. Yanni was there to greet us immediately and answer our questions about the menu, the prices being even more reasonable than what we had expected. We were only seated for about five minutes before our food came out. The salad was one of the biggest entree salads I've seen served from a small business, and my sandwich was, simply put, a divine encounter. My friend and I haven't eaten this good since we went to Italy years ago. I couldn't put it down! As if that weren't enough, Yanni provided us cheesecake to-go on the house. He is such a pleasant person to be around, and every customer he encountered was treated like family. A table with 4 person and another table with one person and it took forever for a falafel pita and fries to come out . And a bowl of roasted eggplant. Falafel sandwiche was so dry . Lacked any flavor , had a spoon of beet/ cabbage on top. Lacked any sauce . A cup of fries were good but not worth 5$ . Roasted eggplant (baba ganache) maybe was overpowered with garlic .
