I cannot believe that. And my dad tells me it was difficult to get his $10 back after calling and talking to the manager. He didn't get the name of the manager but he said that they were just making excuses and saying oh but she's our best server. Obviously not! Saying things like oh she must've just been really busy. Again, we were there when it was dead and about to close soon, no it was not busy. It's almost as if this business does this type of thing often because there was no alarm from the manager, then finally after much deliberation decided to send back the $10. Absolutely ridiculous. No : "I'm so sorry here's a free meal on us", or atleast a "here's a coupon or gift card for next time you come in", nothing. This is the type of thing that gets people closed down. We should report to the BBB. This is insane. And to not be offered anything to make it right is what really gets me. Like do they not want us to ever come back??? And accommodate us they did. I have to give a big, big, BIG shout out to Patrick and Trevor. They were masterful as our servers. The orders were taken quickly and brought out in a very timely way. Big groups I know can be taunted but Patrick and Trevor rode to the occasion. They were efficient, caring and totally in command all evening in taking and bringing out the orders and never complaining. Both were very pleasant, Professional and right there if we needed anything. My husband and I went in at lunchtime (same menu all day) because I read high praise for the schnitzel here on another site and some local radio personality called it "the coolest place ever". (Who ARE these people?) It wasn't planned destination dining, but we were near the Boise mall and and I remembered Amelie's was nearby. I should have know better (but hope springs eternal) because I knew the backstory here. Let's start with that. BACKSTORY: Amelie's is the second format for eatery (if at first you don't succeed...you know the rest of that maxim) by owner Jason Wang in a building that was once McGrath's Fish House (now defunct) and became O'Crab (chain franchise) and then with this owner Country Bay Bistro, a largely seafood boils kinda place in 2021'ish. That didn't work out (for all kinds of reasons) and earlier this year the owner announced a new name, Amelie's (after his wife), that he said would be a French focused food place, to quote him, "...bringing timeless flavors and elegant French charm to Boise." Remember that mission description. What could possibly go wrong in reimagining the cavernous space, with fishing dock and net'ish decor, in that Spectrum location with a seafood boil menu and making it ""...timeless flavors and elegant French charm" ? Turns out the answer is a lot can go wrong. I feel sorry for this owner who seems a good guy, but this bad eatery likely won't last long. SERVICE & VIBE: When we arrived at 12:45'ish, a dark haired young woman dressed in all tee and pants with dark hoodie (that seemed perhaps kitchen attire) was standing alongside the host-stand talking to a man who was seated on a bench drinking coffee. She looked at us as if surprised to see us enter and after a significant pause asked "Do you want a table?" We said we did. She led the way to the dining room, which had no lights on and where we were the only customers except for a man at the bar eating a small green salad (he was still there when we left an hour later), invited us to choose where we'd like to sit among the long tables (all topped with white butcher paper like a motif remaining from the seafood boil days) or step up booths along the walls and asked if we wanted to start with a beverage. (We declined.) A while later she returned to take our orders and left the big menus sitting in front of us. I moved them to the side of the table to get them out of our way (where they remained until the check was delivered). Some time later she returned with our food in three different trips from the kitchen. We didn't see her again until my husband walked out to the front desk (to find her on the phone) to tell her we were ready for our check. When she returned to the table to bring us the check (finally picking up the menus as she said "let me get these out of the way") she asked if we needed take-away boxes since there was a lot of food remaining on both plates. We declined. This was not a person trained in food service. Not her fault. That is a management issue to provide training. About 1:30'ish, towards the end of our meal, a man in an O'Crab shirt appeared from the kitchen and, from behind the bar, finally turned on the lights in the restaurant. French elegant charm this is not. FOOD & $: The menu has several seafood options, like fish and chips and some western Euro options like three kinds of schnitzel. Since the chicken form of this is the dish to which the other diner awarded high praise, this is what I ordered. Per the menu, I expected, "Crisp, golden-breaded cutlet...topped with a creamy mushroom sauce, melted mozzarella garnished with lemon and fresh herbs". What I received was a cutlet so cooked to smithereens that it was difficult to cut, a lettuce salad on the plate (not fresh herbs) with an off taste (as if dressing had gone bad), a lemon wedge and a thick brown'ish sauce that was inedible (delivered to table in gravy boat, no less). My husband didn't fare much better with his choice. The coating on the "crispy beer-battered halibut " fish and chips did not stick to it and while the white fish was flaky it was also tasteless, almost wet textured. The best part of both meals were the French fries and that was largely thanks to the ketchup to dunk them in. The total for the two dishes was just under $40 with tax. Low prices and low quality. NOTE: The owner also advertises this as an event and wedding venue. I am not kidding. PARKING: Private lot. ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible parking in front. Tables are standard height but so close together that it will be difficult for a wheelchair user to sit anywhere but on the end of the tables coming in. LOOKING FOR CLASSIC FRENCH FARE AND CHARM?: Bacquet's in Eagle is the place.

They got lemonade and orange juice while waiting for my husband and I to arrive. After we got settled in, an apple juice and cold brew was ordered. My husband's juice got dropped off first. It did take a minute for my cold brew to arrive. I got a sugar free vanilla cold brew with some half and half on the side. I don't know who is in charge of making their cold brew but what I got was not cold brew. The coloring had no depth or richness to it. It looked like a very watered down americano. Cold brew is rich in color and bold in flavor. Colorful and bold was not this drink. I usually add a few portions of half and half to cut the bitterness of the coffee but I needed only 2 for my watered down mess. So, for 4 bucks or so, it was not worth it thier version of a cold brew For brunch I got the Omni omelet with peasant potatoes. My husband got a cinnamon roll to start and pancake sammy. The kids also got the country fried steak and the lobster Benny. For my daughter and I, we both got a side of country gravy for our potatoes. My husband and I started off with the cinnamon roll. It was heavily topped with frosting which was great! The cinnamon roll was good but you can tell it was not fresh. After being spoiled by local bakeries in town that sell fresh cinny rolls, you know when they aren't fresh. And that's the situation in this case. The texture of the cinny roll was not fluffy and airy. My omelet was good. It was loaded with all the goodies inside. The potatoes were lacking color to them. It looked like a pile of semi seasoned steamed potatoes. I got a little ramekin of gravy. Probably the smallest portion of country gravy I have ever been given. These ramekins are used for ketchup or pancake syrup so to have my side of gravy be served in this was humorous. My husband's pancake sandwich was not a sandwich. It was two huge plate size pancakes with bacon and eggs on top. I guess when you have a description of pancake sandwich that doesn't look like a sandwich, it will throw your customers off. We received our bill and as usual, I looked over the check. I know there's a charge for country gravy, it's like paying for any other extra. Please tell me why a small portion of country gravy at this joint is 2.50?!? The ramekins used are 2 Oz. It holds that much pancake syrup. Mind you, with a denser fluid like country gravy, it's more like 1.7ish oz of gravy. Like what!?! So, 5 bucks for less than 4 oz of gravy is what y'all charge for gravy. I asked the hostess about the charge and of course she directed me to a manager, as she should. The manager needed a hug and a smile. Before even having any type of interaction with her, she looked miserable walking through out the dining area. So you can only imagine how happy she looked when she approached our table to talk to me. She told us the following. "You are charged for the first portion of gravy. But if you want a second portion, it's complimentary." Well, why not give the customer the full amount of what they are paying for? So I'm paying for half of what I'm getting? Why was I not informed about this so called complimentary portion? Our server did not tell us nothing about this complimentary side. So basically, you're ripping customers off with these small side charges. Not letting your guests know about this invisible complimentary secondary portion. Mind you, you were going to make 5 bucks off of less than 4 oz of gravy. That 5 bucks increases the percentage of the servers tip and you're profiting off of gravy which is pennies to make. You add that to as many tables through the day, week, month and year.... I can only imagine how much extra your business is gaining. After the manager was so kind of admit that she was wrong about having two portions of gravy being charged, I would advise her to get her info correct before coming at a guest. I have been in the food industry way too long to have any kind of bs thrown my way. Our server never filled up my nephew's lemonade. Was gone for long periods of time. Honestly, it was busy but it's never that busy to check up on your guests, to make sure their drinks are filled and that they are OK. So, for almost 90 dollars, I believe it was not worth having brunch here today.
