Yiassoo is a hidden gem in the heart of Cupertino! It's small so you might miss it but you can spot it by its white and blue exterior. Yiassoo is really what got me into Mediterranean food many years ago and although I've tried other Mediterranean places since, I always have an itch to go back to Yiassoo. The gyros sandwich is my favorite item at Yiassoo. The meat is perfect and the sauce and tomatoes enhance the flavor. It's really good! I recommend asking for the bottles of sauce to add some more flavor (there's a spicy sauce if you like spicy food). It's very filling and I feel so satisfied after! My dad was craving some middle eastern food and we happened to be by the yiassoo so we decided to grab lunch here. The interior of the restaurant seemed more like a fast food rather than a dine in restaurant. The place was pretty crowded in the afternoon but the food came fairly quickly. I thought the taste was okay, but there wasn't quite that something to make it memorable. I ordered the falafel sandwich because it was vegetarian and seemed like the smaller portion compared to the falafel plate. I was surprised it was quite a large portion for the price. Normally when eating falafel wraps or middle eastern food, I try to pay attention to the falafel texture or the sauce, but I didn't feel like either was that out of the world. This is one of our regular go to places for a quick , healthy, and tasty food for pickup order (to go). The portions are generally good and the prices are reasonable. They have many grilled chicken and meat options that are Gluten Free. The service is fast and generally the food is ready within 10 to 15 minutes from the time I place the phone order. My go to is the Souvlaki chicken salad. I don't like tomatoes and so I always ask for it without tomatoes. It's a good size portion of salad with a skewer of grilled chicken which is very filling. My husband typically gets one of their Plates. This time, he got the chicken souvlaki plate which comes with fries (or rice) and greek salad. Note, the greek salad is mostly tomatoes, so if you don't like tomatoes, you can ask for the salad without it so you get more of the lettuce/cucumber, etc. In terms of the ambiance, it's alright and they do have outdoor seating if you choose to eat there. I love this place! We first went here probably 15 years ago and were always very, very pleased with the food and the excellent customer service. Back then, the owners were the ones doing the cooking, the counter service and basically everything else. We always felt very well taken care of there. As the years have gone by, we've moved farther away and are not in the Cupertino area as much, but we recently went back and it is still the same excellent food, excellent customer service and comfortable dining experience. They've really done a wonderful job with the seating and colorful decor there. I wish we'd left a five star review way back then, but we are still happy to leave one now. It comes in a plate with pita at the bottom, lettuce and tomato with a big patty on the side. The patty was juicy and delicious. Stop by Yiassoo from time to time when I'm craving gyros. The last time I came here, I ordered a lamb gyro sandwich and my boyfriend ordered a falafel sandwich. Our total came out to around $20, which to my surprise was shockingly pricey in my opinion! I don't know why I came out to be so shocked, as the prices are listed directly above the ordering counter, but I guess being used to cheaper more fast food style options I was caught off guard. I'm used to the meat in my gyros being cut up into more chewable sized pieces, so when my sandwich came out with whopping huge balls of lamb, again I was shocked! The size of the lamb portions were a little inconvenient to eat because the lamb balls would constantly fall out of the sandwich!! I wouldn't have that much of an issue with it if the lamb was more chewy, but with the malleableness of the meat it seemed like you had to take a full bite with the whole lamb portion to be able to eat it. So with that being said, my plate and table was a mess as I was eating the sandwich, with bits of tomato and sauces going all over the place!!! My boyfriend enjoyed his falafel, and we both enjoyed the spiciness of the red sauce and the complimentary white sauce. Needed a hearty and quick dinner so we decided to try this place. The employees all greeted as us we walked in. It's always so nice to feel welcome like that. The restaurant is fairly small but they have a very decent amount of seating when you factor in the outside tables (they have heaters). I specifically want to comment on the fact that they had a really comfortable temperature inside. I am usually cold wherever I go and avoid the vents but I felt warm air circulate so I tried to sit near one. The food came out quickly (I think it was only about a 10, max 15, min wait). My boyfriend ordered the chicken slouvaki wrap, which he ate really fast (he said it was delicious), and it was less than $9. My brother and I each ordered the chicken plate which comes with the chicken, rice or fries, salad, and tzaziki with pita for about $12. Chicken was tender and well marinated. So good! I shared some rice and salad with my boyfriend since it was more than I could eat. A great value for the price! The tzaziki tasted really fresh. A few tables out front and some more inside. The layout caters to smaller groups. Clean and basic; has a "hole in the wall" feel. Menu up on the wall above the ordering counter. FOOD: Usually, I get the gyro wrap. Pretty straightforward food item. Although, recently I received one without feta cheese? Not sure if it was forgotten this time around. Pretty generous with the meat and yogurt sauce. Comes with diced tomatoes and onions. A little on the saltier side. Hits the spot. SERVICE: Takes a good 10-15 minutes to receive food. While not very slow, there is definitely a noticeable wait time. Friendly service. IMPRESSIONS: Not a bad place to get your gyro fix. It's a very basic presentation. Not too many ingredients and not very elaborate compared to some other places that have more options. If you are looking for something simple, and not too over-the-top, Yiassoo will do. Good, fast-food like Greek food! The restaurant here is quite casual. The service is prompt, you order with the cashier and pick your own table. Once the food is ready you just take it to your table and feast. The meat here is good but doesn't always taste super fresh and has a little too much salt for my liking but it is generally good and a nice topping for the salad or gyro they offer. The fries are exquisite!! Super crunchy on the outside and fluffy on this inside, my favorite!! I would suggest coming here for the fries alone if you are wanting some because I like them so much. I paid $17.25 for a salad that ultimately comes on a paper plate and a plastic tray that you have to bus yourself. I'm not saying that the salad wasn't good, it was enjoyable (nothing exceptional), but unfortunately the price that I paid does not accurately reflect the quality of the meal or the experience I had. I understand that this is partly because there's a difference in price between "regular" and "super", but the price to portion ratio of those differences does not add up. I just honestly find it shocking that a super gyro sandwich is $11.25 but a super gyro salad is $17.25, for the same ingredients except the pita comes on the side (even if they argue the portions are larger for a salad, that is quite a margin for extra lettuce). Best gyro I've had in a long time...it's so good that I wish I lived or worked nearby so that I could have it more often. The $5.75 gyro features a thick, soft pocketless pita (I prefer the thick kind), warmed on the grill, stuffed to the max with thinly shaved pieces of gyro meat that are incredibly juicy, tender and flavorful, crunchy red onions, a thick delicious garlicky tsatziki sauce with cucumber and fresh chopped tomatoes. The sauce, the meat, the pita - everything comes together in a warm, delicious bundle. I love how they give you two bottles of sauce (love when some place automatically gives you hot sauce). The hot sauce is really good. As I was waiting for the gyro, I noticed juices dripping off the gyro meat on the vertical spit...drool. They warmed the shaved gyro pieces on the grill. The place looks old, they have fake plants and my table squeaked but I didn't care. The gyro was divine. They even have a soda machine in the dining room so you can help yourself to refills. This place is a gem! I rarely eat Greek food, but I'm glad to have found a place near my home that have incredibly amazing gyro. The restaurant itself has a fast- casual dining ambiance. You order in the counter, they give you a number, and you pick up the food when your number is called - simple. Had the regular gyro plate for ($9.xx), which includes gyro, fries and greek salad. First of all, I'm glad I didn't go for the super size..since the regular gyro was HUGE! They were very generous with the beef and I can barely finish the regular size. Taste wise, it's amazing!! The pita was warm and had a little crunch to it, the beef although a little salty was still very very good! Also had their Loukoumades (Greek donut) - delicious little golden puffs drizzled with honey; I thoroughly enjoyed eating them~ The service was nice and friendly too. I can sleep on it, if I ever so desire. The yogurt sauce, the beef, and tomatoes all together made it very delicious. My favorite part of the quick meal was the baklava which was cinnamon and slightly sweet. Baklava is a rich, sweet pastry made of layers of phyllo dough. Place looked clean and the kid taking the orders explained some things to me. He was polite and courteous. It took about 5-6 minutes for the food to come out. There was only 2 guys working....One taking the orders the other was cooking. But the giant plates piled high with greek salad, pita, yogurt and dill, rice or french fries, lamb or chicken shawrma or giant pita sandwiches coming from the kitchen had me hopeful that this spot was a good lunch option, as did the crowds at lunch. It turned out to be a mixed result. Large plates of food make this a clearly popular spot, but I was sad they opted to overcook their meat. Since I ordered a paleo-friendly looking plate of shwarma, overcooked meat was a disappointment. My lunch combo plate ($15) was generous with meat, lamb, chicken and beef. Too bad then that it was overcooked to well done, dry and tough. I ended up tossing my meat from side to side on the plate, eating a few select pieces, and mostly ate side items, making it an expensive salad plate. The pita is so soft and fluffy, while the meat is so tender, juicy, and flavorful. I can't believe I didn't discover the gyro until now. While on vacation in Europe, I was introduced to doner kebabs, which I would later learn is the Turkish equivalent of a Greek gyro (thanks wikipedia). These kebab shops were littered all over the streets of Italy, so it was hard to not get addicted to them.
