So glad we finally made it here...had it bookmarked forever. Got here at 5pm and they didn't open until 5:45 ( their opening hours vary), kind of annoying but we'll worth it. The bartender, Wes, was friendly and a master at his craft. It was Amsterdam theme this month, so they were playing all Avicii music and had Dutch themed cocktails. The Dutch Apple Fizz was beautiful and delicious. Definitely Instagramable drinks up in here. We plan on returning every time they change to a new theme. The long of it: I love when I find new hidden gems! I'm partial to speakeasies so when I heard about this place, I had to come check it out. This place is really hidden and we had to ask the Irvine Marriott hotel staff to show us the way. This place is super small and intimate, not really recommended for large groups. Our fairly large group got lucky and we were able to sit at the couch right next to the bartender. There's no real "menu" here, the bartender just kind of asks you what you like and then they will whip you up something. It's just fun to watch and get something customized to your liking. Craft and class with a touch of sass Our experience here was awesome. We stopped by early and it was an aloha tiki vibe. The space was amazing. Like being in a cool living room in the 1960s. The bartender Jonathan knew his craft. I had a Don Hawaiian drink which was bittersweet deliciousness and hubby had a smoked old fashioned. Both yummy. Next, a sublime gin fizz that had egg whites and tasted so delicious. Think OrangeJulius with alcohol. Finally, we ended with a couple of custom drinks, for hubby: a pineapple one with rum and some type of herbs and for me, a Malibu rum (which I specified) with apple and chili salt (and it was good)! YNK is an intimate lounge-type bar in the Irvine Marriott hotel. Ravin the mixologist was seemingly the only bartender, which suits the overall ambiance (not unlike sitting in a friend's living room). He has a worn leather book on his bar cart that's full of hand-drawn doodles and descriptions of his cocktail offerings, and I'm sure he can whip up anything that suits your palate. Ravin is passionate about his craft and it shows through his cocktails. I kept it simple and ordered an old fashioned, and it was really one of the most unique spins on the classic I've had. He infused it with applewood smoke and cardamom bitters, which gave it a very light feel - a word I normally wouldn't associate with old fashioneds. My partner ordered a capirinha, which also didn't disappoint. Price was a little on the steep side ($14/cocktail). P.S. You can park in the Irvine Marriott self-park lot, which is only free for the first 30 minutes. But if you let Ravin know, he'll validate parking for you. The coolest speakeasy out there (well at least in Orange County). Secretive, gypsy vibes, intimate (tiny room fits about 15 people). One major pro about YNK is that each drink is beautifully executed and authentically served. There's only one bartender at the end of the room & you have the freedom to watch him meticulously handcraft each beverage with such ease and professionalism. The first time I was introduced to this lounge, the ASIA menu was the still the star of the show. Hands down favorite drink is the SAME-SAME. It has a powerful kick from the jalapeños and curry flavor. SAME-SAME stays true to its roots & is served in a miso soup bowl. The second time I visited, I tried a few items off the ITALY menu. *Recommendations: - SGROPPINO ($16): highlight of the show. Tasted like a refreshing alcoholic slushy. Lemony and smooth. - ESPRESSO MARTINI ($16): For all you coffee lovers, this is a must try. Genuinely tasted like a rich glass of creamy coffee. Can I just substitute this instead every morning?! - LAVENDER BELLINI ($16): Tastes like just how it sounds. A nice, speakeasy style bar located in another bar. Inside YNK you'll find a handful of tables in a very cozy space. There's no menu, the bartender will ask you a series of questions and make you a drink based on preferences. Jonathan did a great job of taking care of us and made two really amazing drinks. One of our drinks was gin-based and had elder flower, egg white, and a hint of citrus. We also ordered deviled eggs and a burger. The food did not disappoint. Possibly my favorite one out of all the drinks I had! Also got a taste of my coworker's drinks: Same, same - Three of my coworkers got this drink, spicy! Served in a miso soup bowl and looks like it too. I'm not a fan of spicy drinks so it's not my cup of tea but everyone else liked it. You can taste the spice run down your throat into your stomach. Hurricane - Different from a normal hurricane but good nonetheless, a classy take on a trashy drink El Presidente - You can taste the alcohol in this one All were tasty and different in their own way. The amount of time and effort put into making the drinks really shows through the taste and presentation. The price of the drinks is fair considering the art and care that goes into making your drink, expect to pay $10-15. They also have little snacks you can order, popcorn chicken and a flat bread! Everyone ordered popcorn chicken ($9) so I didn't get to try the flat bread. The popcorn chicken tasted nice and I really liked the dipping sauce. Great finger food! Please note that this place doesn't really open at exactly 5:30, we came at around 5:20 because I wanted to make sure we could all get inside since it is a small space. We didn't get to actually go inside until 15 minutes after opening time, so take your time arriving! YNK is special, dare I say magical, and probably the most standout business I have encountered across multiple continents, in years. I will book more trips to Irvine, simply to spend an evening relaxing at YNK sipping glorious cocktails in great company. I don't think that I can hype this place enough. Everything about it is unique. It's the type of lounge you'd expect to find in New York City, Chicago or San Francisco. When you walk in, the energy and the ambiance are beyond inviting. It's small, it's cozy, it just feels good. For me, it was almost a soulful experience. Can that happen in bar? I guess so! Maybe it should be renamed, The Sanctuary? The drinks represent the epitome of craft cocktails, each carefully designed with love and creativity, then handwritten in leather bound notebooks. The mixologist, Ravin, is an Artisan Libation Architect; a Booze Guru; a Liquor Prodigy; simply put, he is brilliant. Irvine is lucky to have this hidden gem and the locals that I met there would love to keep it that way, hidden. I'm sorry to let the cat out of the bag but I cannot keep a business this good a secret. It's located inside the Irvine Marriott behind Floe Bar & Lounge. Kudos to the Marriott brand for supporting a concept like this inside their hotel. It's the most unique bar I've seen in any Marriott brand hotel. As a Marriott Platinum member, I'd love to see more places like this inside Marriott brand hotels and resorts. Places like YNK incentivize guests to stay inside the hotel and spend their money. Something we will gladly do when they are as well executed as YNK. Case in point. My party of five started out at YNK for a pre-dinner drink and enjoyed ourselves so much that we cancelled our dinner reservation and ordered appetizers at YNK through Floe. After a couple of hours, we were craving food that was more substantial then the limited (though delicious) offerings available at YNK, so we went to a popular restaurant & bar nearby. The stark contrast in the quality of drinks, ambiance and service left us hurrying through our meal so that we could return to YNK - which we did and had a lovely finish to what began as a great evening thanks to YNK. You can order a couple of food items from Floe and have them delivered to you at YNK if you need some food to wash down your liquor. :) Read the menu and select a cocktail or tell Ravin what you like to drink and let him create something for you. Great drinks, cool atmosphere. The drinks take a long time to come out (which is expected because they are craft cocktails). The issue we had was that we got their before another table yet the mixologist took their order first and made their drinks first before ours, so we ended up waiting 20-30 minutes before the first of our groups drinks hit the table, and another 20 before the last of our groups of 4's drinks did. I was excited to visit YNK during my stay at the Irvine Marriott. One of the hotel staff told me how great the drinks and atmosphere were, and I decided to make a reservation for that night. I was disappointed in the service I received. I was not greeted when I walked in (as small at the place was, there was no way I could have been missed), and I had to ask for a cocktail menu. After about 10 minutes of waiting, the bartender (Nicholas) finally approached me and took my order. The drink was good, I'll give him that. However his service was lackluster. He truly seemed disinterested. Two pair of patrons came in after me, and his reception was much better. He went as far as explaining the menu to both parties, and engaged with them far more than he did with me. He did not explain the menu to me or give me any background on the cocktail selection. He also checked on two other groups to ask if they needed anything else, or wanted another round. I was not shown that same level of hospitality or service. I was disappointed in my YNK experience and will skip the place should I stay at the Irvine Marriott again. read more

He is a ball of sunshine who is so humble and amazing and just the sweetest human being We came in, and he sat us down and told us that we will get personalized cocktails and asked us about our preferences and practically put on a beautiful show of crafting the cocktails for us. Not only did he inspire me to fall more in love with bartending and the world of mixology but he made bomb cocktails. The ambience makes you feel like you're James Bond with the luxury and "secrecy" this location makes you feel. The food and the cocktails were amazing and we had a memorable night here. What a gem! The ambiance is classy and warm. The staff is top notch. And the drinks are a work of art. Jonathan is so talented; he spends a few minutes getting to know what you like, and then goes back to his "lab" and creates something just for you. Super small room next to the main bar at the hotel. Walked into a complete mess. All tables covered with dirty dishes and glassware. But there was only one bartender. He didn't have any help so you had to sit there with all the dirty dishes. Good concept, bartender was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. No menu, so you have to have a good base knowledge of cocktails or you get a bespoke cocktail that is hit or miss to your liking. Took him about 25 minutes for my cocktail because he has to explain the concept to each person as they come in. Poorly managed because the dirty dishes and glassware that was there when I came in was still there an hour later. Also, not a huge selection of whiskey for a whiskey bar. We saw this place on a video online from someone claiming it was a speakeasy. However, in my opinion it's far from a speakeasy. It's not hidden and simply behind the main bar on the first floor. There's a sign outside it that says Y.N.K. The door was open and we walked straight in. We had made reservations to this bar however it seems you don't need reservations and you can just self-seat? There wasn't a hostess. The bartenders saw us walk in, made eye contact but there was no greeting, no acknowledgment, no explanation, nothing. It is VERY small inside and the pictures online made it look a lot bigger. We were going to sit at the couch right when you enter but the door was open which took away from it. We were really looking for that speakeasy vibe or even just a cozy lounge and this just wasn't it. Again, to be fair we went off a video that called Y.N.K a speakeasy so it's not the bar's fault. We would have probably stayed if the bartenders had said a hello and if the door had been kept shut but we decided to leave. We decided to leave and did not try their drinks. read more

It's our new favorite place: full of swank, hopping with energy, with food available from the restaurant next door, dripping with style and flair...but the piece de resistance was Jonathan, the bartender. His drinks are carefully, even obsessively crafted, and his devoted attention to the tastes, preferences, and happiness of his customers was surreal in such a classy, hidden and random, fun little establishment. You Never Know (YNK) is a small bar & lounge inside Irvine Marriott and behind their normal bar. I would say it's Jonathon's personal cocktail serving place, as he is the only bartender there every night. Jonathon pours all of his passion into each drink, with his personal touch, effort, and time into each creative concoction. Themes and decorations change each month (hence the bar name), and cocktails change accordingly, though he can make any cocktail to order -- even further reason to come back. This is a place more for couples or small groups to talk, as it is quite an intimate and quiet space that's easy to converse in. There is more room outside YNK for bigger groups. For us, he made a Whiskey Sour and Strawberry Daiquiri with fresh egg whites and strawberries, respectively. Both with enough alcohol to have me tipsy, but even flavor to satisfy my umami taste buds. Outstanding drinks, but just too slow. Every drink at Y.N.K was simply delicious and demonstrates state-of-the-art excellence in craft and creativity. Their menu changes every 2-3 months, and this month they're finishing a trip to Amsterdam with a wintry set of very tasty, Dutch-inspired cocktails. Their Dutch apple fizz, for example, featured Angry Orchard cider topped by a delicious froth that rose well above the edge of its tall glass. The bartender carefully positioned a bouquet of green apple slices and a straw on one end, allowing easy access to the cider or the fizz. Amazing! But the apple bouquet illustrates where Y.N.K fails. I watched the bartender ever-so-carefully slice the Granny Smith apple. Soooo slow. So careful. An arthritic grandmother could cut apples faster. Perfectionism is a wonderful thing... except when you're waiting on a drink that takes 10-15 minutes to make (most of the time spent shaking or waiting for the liquid to settle below the froth). Watching the bartender trying to precisely position the perfect flower on the top of another objet d'art was equally excruciating. The drinks at Y.N.K are quite complicated with lots of ingredients and fiddly assembly. I understand that they will take longer to prepare. I also appreciate the unique, excellence of every drink at this place (e.g., a gin and tonic with much more than simply gin and tonic). But the bartenders here need more practice putting things together quickly. They just don't have the confidence and the dexterity to handle more than a few customers at a time. Plus, they forgot the drink order for a member of our party; we didn't check on its status, as, by then, we had become used to drinks taking a long time to prepare. Allegedly, they serve snacks. We never saw a menu, and no one asked for our order. In summary, Y.N.K might have the best cocktails in the Irvine area. But it's an excursion to a slow timezone with below average service. read more

We were there for a girls' night out and arrived shortly after dinner. YNK serves light bites like popcorn chicken and truffle potato wedges, which we ordered. What you really want there are drinks. My first drink was my standard Gold Rush ($14) and it was superb. My friend had a dragonfruit mojito and it was so refreshing that I ordered that next. We sat there chatting for a few hours and did not feel rushed. Ravin was really amiable and knowledgeable. When we asked for a suggestion, he blew our expectations away. This place is a great place to grab a drink and chat. It's like sitting in someone's very contemporary living room with all the comforts of a very posh home. They validate parking here for the Marriott which is great since it's kind of pricey to self-park at the hotel. This is a bit hard to find from the parking lot because the plaza/area is just confusing. But there is a parking structure you can park in which I did without realizing there is a free outdoor section you can park! And the outdoor is much closer than structure too. The lounge is inside the Marriott hotel. When u walk in the bar is to the right side and you have to go behind the right side of the bar, you'll see ynk sign. Inside is small but nicely decorated. Drinks are pretty good but waited a long time in line to get a drink... I wish they could have someone taking drink orders from where you're sitting... Two out of my three drinks I liked, one of them was just ordinary tasting. So I guess it depends on which drink you get. I love the space. But drinks.. there's room for improvement. The small space limits the amount of patrons that can be inside, so be aware that you might not get in the door immediately. Unfortunately, this creates a somewhat unwelcoming feeling when the bartenders say they are momentarily closed to more guests, or that the wait for a drink is "45 minutes." The bar is at the far end, and I would have liked to watch the bartender at his craft, but that wasn't possible due to the cramped quarters and his small and packed station. read more
