Plain Yogurt w/ Lucero Farms Strawberries
    Burrito M.

I normally puchase Straus Creamery non-fat yogurt on a weekly basis, which I eat for breakfast every morning. I really enjoy the yogurt, however the stack of plastic containers that has been building up at our place was starting to bother me. So when I first learned about St. Benoit yogurt products, I was well prepared to love it, the whole concept - family owned, terroir, sustainable, reusable containers, french cultures, jersey cows, etc, etc ,etc. I excitedly bought my first quart glass jar of plain yogurt from the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market this morning. When I got home, I cut up some Lucero Farm strawberries to mix in, took my first bite, and said wow... Unfortunately, the wow was not in a positive sense...My main issue is with the texture and consistency, it is grainy, clumpy, clotted and slightly slimy. I mean the flavor is good, but I hate to say that the texture was kinda repugnant. It was quite a letdown. Rationally, I know that this is what real natural yogurt is supposed to taste like. The smooth and creamy consistency of the yogurt products I grew up with is probably a fallacy, the yogurt I'm used to is manipulated to be this way through processing and the addition of alternate ingredients. With that being said, I'm going to force myself to keep eating the quart that I bought to see if I can eventually get used to it. Sigh...

Wow! I eat yogurt every day with fruit and sometimes, if I'm feeling especially saucy, granola or cereal in it. I buy large containers of non-fat plain and I never buy whole milk yogurt. St. Benoit was a SERIOUS treat for me! It is clearly made with love. I tried Boysenberry because, really, how often do I come across things containing boysenberries? Since I don't live in SF, I won't be able to chow on this stuff regularly but I can tell you that every time I'm in the city on a Saturday or a Tuesday, I'll be purchasing a little endearing ceramic container of scrumptious dairy goodness.

Loved the Meyer Lemon but wish my market , Whole Foods in Beverly Hills would carry more flavors than this, honey and plain.

oh bi-rite, you have my whole entire heart…read more this staple of an establishment very well may top the chain of sf ice cream. their rotating new flavors always are a hit, and the ones that stick around are flawless. there's almost nothing better than grabbing a couple scoops and walking right across the street to mission dolores park to watch the sun set over the skyline. the crème brûlée, roasted banana, and tiramisu in particular have nearly drove me bankrupt. not to mention the peanut butter and cookies and cream. it is practically impossible to not enjoy this place. everyone i've ever taken has left in awe, and i will never abandon my spot as a loyal patron. i love you bi-rite

They allow you to sample up to three flavors, and I ended up choosing the black sesame and crème brûlée. Unfortunately, both flavors felt a bit muted to me. I was especially disappointed by the crème brûlée since my scoop had very few of the crunchy caramelized bits that make that flavor special. I was also expecting a richer, creamier ice cream given the reputation, but it tasted fairly standard to me. Of course, texture and richness are subjective, but overall it didn't quite live up to the hype.

It's never too cold for ice cream. At least it wasn't when we were getting Swensen's!…read more The night before we had driven past and there was a line out the door! Their curb was completely filled with people, so it deterred us from going. But after our dinner, we were seriously craving a sweet treat. They keep the doors open, so you can walk in and the delicious smell of ice cream wafts on to the street. And would you believe--no line! I walked right up to the counter and placed my order! Now, I always love niche flavors and they had plenty of them to choose from! I could've spent time going through and sampling some (which they offer), but I decided on their banana ice cream in a waffle cone. It was spectacular gimme 14 of them. The banana ice cream was creamy and didn't give off that artificial taste that some ice creams tend to have. And the waffle cone was the right move! Highly recommend to get it with whatever ice cream flavor you end up choosing. It was crispy and perfectly sweet! I now understand the line. Definitely a must visit for a sweet treat to end your night!

It was very rich (tasted very fudgey) and dense, which is exactly how I like my ice cream. The service was also good and I got to try a couple different flavors since it was my first time. I'll definitely be back at some point!
