This was just a couple hundred miles before my warranty expired, so I knew I needed to get it looked at immediately. I found Sun Auto Service through my CarMax warranty as a preferred vendor. The reviews were solid, so I chose them. The main person I worked with was Cody, and he was excellent. As a woman, it can be difficult to find an auto shop where you do not feel talked down to or pressured into unnecessary repairs. That was not my experience here at all. Cody was transparent and straightforward. He clearly explained what needed attention now versus what could wait a few months. No pressure, no condescension. They had my car for about two weeks, which I understand is normal given how many variables can cause starting issues like that. I explained that my warranty was about to expire and asked them to be thorough. They absolutely were. They identified nearly $3,000 worth of repairs, all of which were covered under warranty. They handled the entire claims process. I never had to contact the warranty company once. I simply paid my deductible and was on my way. Everything felt professional, organized, and above board. It has been about two weeks since I picked up my car and it is running perfectly. I would absolutely return if I ever needed service again. Highly recommend Sun Auto, and especially Cody.

My 07 Tacoma has struts from a different year Tacoma, that's it, everything else is bone stock under there. I understand that some vehicles with modified suspension can have a harder time taking an alignment and they might have to try twice, but all I needed was a toe check and to have my steering wheel straightened! Easy easy job on any car. Ended up walking out on principle. If they'd quoted me $150 over the phone I'd happily paid them. Never make a price decision at an auto shop, so many are trained to nickel and dime you, if you start to cave at all they will just keep going with it.

You do pay for the diagnostics, even if you have the repair done - extra $$, so plan accordingly. Still worth it for the quality of work and convenience of the location.

First I must apologize to Matt for being so late in providing my review…read more I was looking for a mechanic to work on my friends '06 Ford Mustang GT back in February '26. She initially took her car to the Ford dealership to diagnose an oil leak that affected engine performance. Ford quoted a total of 4 different supposed repairs that totaled over 6K. I've known for a long time not to trust what comes from a 'Stealership'. That's when I met Matt. Not only did he take time to thoroughly inspect the car, he ruled out all of these supposed repairs Ford quoted and isolated the problem to the main seal at the back of the block. Matt replaced the part in record time and was incredibly reasonably priced saving my friend 1000s of dollars. Matt has proven to be the most honest mechanic I've ever met and I'm absolutely indebted to him for saving our beloved ragtop 'pony'. I can honestly say without reservation that Hal Jones is the best mechanic shop I've experienced in the 34 years I've lived in Portland. I wont have anyone else work on my vehicles other that Matt at Hal Jones on Fremont. Thank you Matt! Seth Russell

The issue was bigger then expected which he didn't have the ability to fix it. When I went to pick it up later, he was apologetic and refused for me to compensate him for his time. He gave me recommendations for next steps. He genuinely cares and takes pride in his work. I appreciate him.

Tran not only provided a speedy service, but even went the extra mile to pump my tires since he saw the light come on AND even topped off my wiper fluid without me asking or even charging me. These simple acts were more than enough for me to come in again. This time for a vehicle inspection before my interstate move. I tried calling in before to explain my need, but since he had left the shop early that evening, he instead offered me quick solutions at tires shops around the area to fix my TPMS problem and then scheduled a date to inspect my car. During the inspection, he did a thorough job and pointed out the cracks and wear on my engine belt and addressed the replacement immediately (reassuring me that this is normal for a 210k+ mileage car). Along the process he helped explained what to look out for during my 900+ mile trip. I bought a quart of oil from him and he gave me extra rags with it to ensure a safe trip. This man knows his stuff and is genuine to his craft. Sadly leaving PDX but he has made my trip ahead feel assuring and I hope you all can show some love to his business. FYI, I recommend calling ahead before you go in; he's a one man team so it can help him schedule you in better.

I rearranged my schedule to honor my appointment time, only to be told it would take up to 2 hours for a simple oil change--a service that typically takes no more than 30 minutes. What's the point of having an appointment if you're going to be stuck waiting hours? When I attempted to reschedule, I was offered only a 7:30 AM weekday slot the following week--with the same unreasonable 2-hour estimate. Since the coupon expires within a week, I asked if Firestone would honor it during a more reasonable time slot. Tony flatly said no. Making basic services unnecessarily difficult and inconvenient simply because a customer has a coupon--one Firestone themselves issued--is a terrible business practice. This kind of treatment shows a complete lack of respect for customers' time and trust. I won't be returning--and I'd advise others to think twice before doing business with a company that operates this way.
