I loved the ambiance at Ysabel, it's definitely a great date spot. Everything that we ordered was amazing. Their rigatoni was probably some of the best rigatoni I've ever had!! I was pleasantly surprised by the kale Caesar salad too, the kale wasn't hard and it was seasoned well. The scallops were pan fried and not fishy at all. It almost had a sweet bite to it. I believe their olive oil cake was a seasonal item on the dessert menu, but I loved it because it wasn't too sweet. Overall I love Ysabel, will definitely be back! The service, particularly from management, completely overshadowed what was meant to be a special evening. We came for my birthday dinner with an 8:00 PM reservation. Earlier that evening, we called to let the restaurant know we were running slightly late and were told there was a strict 15-minute grace period and that punctuality was essential. Despite this, we were not seated until roughly 30 minutes after our reservation time. While waiting patiently, I checked in at the host stand around 8:25 to ask for an update and was told that the party at our table had already been seated for over three and a half hours, that there was no way to estimate when they would leave, and that the restaurant was not able to ask them to vacate the table. We were told we would simply have to wait until they chose to get up. This explanation was frustrating on its own, but even more confusing given that I have since read other reviews describing guests being seated late and then told they would need to be finished within a set time window. That inconsistency made the situation feel less like a firm policy and more like selective enforcement. Shortly after, a manager approached me and said, "Anxious to sit down, are we?" This comment felt dismissive and unnecessary, especially given the circumstances and the fact that this was a birthday celebration. As the night continued, additional issues arose. Drinks took approximately 35 minutes to arrive, and one martini was warm and overly diluted. My friend politely asked if it could be remade. Instead of handling this quietly, the situation escalated when management returned to tell my friend that the server felt he had been rude. He immediately apologized and explained that was not his intention. He simply wanted the drink corrected. As the interaction concluded, the manager told my friend that he "hopes he has as lovely a night as he is," which felt inappropriate and unprofessional. After this interaction, our server never returned to check on our table, with no follow-up on drinks, food, or how everything was going. We had ordered a tomahawk steak for the table, requested medium rare leaning more toward medium, and it arrived purple and raw, completely inedible. A second manager, the general manager, later came over and was equally dismissive, doubling down rather than acknowledging the multiple service breakdowns. I have dined here before and previously experienced much better service, which made this evening especially disappointing. The issue was not a single mistake, but the way multiple managers communicated throughout the night. The tone was consistently dismissive and condescending, escalating situations that could have been resolved simply and respectfully. There are many expensive restaurants in Los Angeles where you can spend the same amount of money and be treated with respect, made to feel comfortable, and actually enjoy your night. My favorites were definitely the rigatoni and risotto :) They had a DJ playing live music which was great and overall ambience was really nice. Trendy place, most people are dressed nice (also LA) so I'd recommend dressing to match the rest of the crowd there. Only thing I'd say that needs improvement is the number of staff. Our waitress was helping multiple tables and it was a packed night so we waited long for some things, our second round of cocktails were watered down like they had been sitting and waiting to be brought to the table for too long. Also took awhile to get our check, not the fault of the staff but it'd be nice if there were more employees to help out. Overall good food, music, ambience! Food was good but we got a bottle of wine that she kept behind the bar and our glasses were empty during our main course. Yesterday I celebrated my birthday at Ysabel, a beautiful restaurant in my neighborhood. When we entered, we were impressed but that soon faded when the hostess said a customer with your same last name canceled your reservation. Since the restaurant was near empty, we were seated quickly by a beautiful tree. Then we met our waitress -a woman who is pushier than a car salesman. I don't know if this is how Ysabel trains their employees to sell sell sell or it's just her. I've never experienced this level of pushing at a restaurant. She recommended the most expensive dishes on the menu (no surprise), kept pushing for us to add drinks, more sides and appetizers. Meanwhile nobody came back to refill water. We ordered the fried calamari, lemon pasta (added burrata), scallops, orange olive oil cake, Cabernet and the grapefruit beer. The calamari was tasty but the portion was very small. The lemon pasta was good and of an adequate size. The $40+ scallops came with 4 pieces (2 of which were overcooked); our pushy salesman of a waitress lied and told us 5 pieces when we ordered. This restaurant does not provide any birthday treats even if you order a bunch of food and drinks. We ordered the orange olive oil cake. The flavor was good but the consistency reminded me of over-baked, weeks-old, stale cornbread. You need all the whip cream and drizzled honey to be able to chew this rock. Oh I forgot to mention she gave us our bill as she delivered the cake which is in bad taste considering this place is supposed to be upscale. I enjoyed Ysabel!! I went on a Saturday morning for brunch for a nice lil meal before watching the Mamma Mia musical at Pantages (which I also highly recommend!!). We got there around 11am with a reservation, and it was empty so we got to choose to sit wherever we wanted. Anywhere you sit here is super cute so you can't go wrong. The host was kinda staring at us alot which was a bit odd, but we eventually were able to ignore it lol. Our server was nice, though, and was attentive to our table which was nice (especially since it was still empty at the time haha). The brunch cocktails were delicious and kind of strong (which we loved of course). The brunch meals were also yummy! Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. When we got inside, it was beautiful and unique - there are some really pretty spots to take photos, including an artsy giant staircase! I had such an amazing first time experience at Ysabel last night! This restaurant is beautiful and has a great ambiance. The outdoor seating is super cute and romantic. We started off with the citrus and avocado salad which was delicious. The combination of flavors made it very unique. We couldn't skip out on the Wagyu skewers which were my personal favorite! We also tried the famous rigatoni vodka pasta which was one of the best pastas I've tried in a while. We also got the flat iron steak and that was cooked to perfection. It came with two steak sauces that were both delicious! Mashed potato's were good as well. The chocolate molten cake was the perfect dessert and I'm already craving it! Went to Ysabel in LA with a friend -- beautiful place and the food was nice, but we had a really unpleasant moment at the end. We ordered two dishes to share, plus a Coke and water. The bill was $80. I left $100 in cash, and the waiter asked, "Do you need change?" which already felt a bit uncomfortable -- it gave the impression that he expected a $20 tip without even confirming. When I asked about the bill again, he told me they don't give cash back. That was confusing -- why ask if I want change if you're not able to give it? Then, a moment later, he returned to say that they actually don't accept cash at all and my friend had to pay by card. The situation just felt awkward and poorly handled, especially for a place with such high prices. I expected more professionalism and clarity.
