Yuan Wonton has a huge social media following and it's difficult to get an order in when the preorders open up. I finally got to try them out with a collaboration they did with Tea Street and Pho King Rapidos to benefit Stop AAPI Hate. It came with enough chili wontons and shu mai to feed three people for us (plus 2 boba drinks and xiu mai meatballs from pkr). There were heating directions for each item and the chili oil that they use is delicious. I want to buy a jar of it to add in noodles or rice. It was so yummy. The wontons were fresh and yummy. They tasted better with the chili oil. The chili oil can be spicy for some so test it out before dumping it all in the wontons. The shu mai was delicious. I usually don't like them but these tasted really good with the chicken and mushrooms. The soy sauce that's used was yummy too. If you don't want to wait in long lines, I would keep a lookout when they do collaborations because you get a lot of food for your money. We had enough food for two meals. read more

We didn't have reservations and were seated at the bar which I was truly excited about as I could see the kitchen and watch the magic. What did I see? Have been salivating after Yuan Wonton of food truck notoriety for a few years now. After a couple of failed attempts to navigate the fish frenzy preordering of dumplings from her truck, I gave up and waited, hoping there would be an easier option one day. Fast forward through pandemic and my own listlessness, and finally prioritized checking it out today, long after the brick and mortar created a giant buzz. Sorry, I digress. It's been a while. Ambience, meh. Rather sterile and characterless. But clean and utilitarian, I guess. But lacking the charm a space can create to engender fondness. Tried three wonton dumpling items, the OG chili wontons, the Szechuan eggplant, and Shelby J. Thumbs up to Shelby J, a light dough and tasty pork filling. Gorgeous and delicious. Thumbs up also to OG, pretty satisfying, light fresh tasting wrappers, though maybe less notable compared to Shelby J. Eggplant disappointing. Very mushy, no texture. Would have been better if eggplant puree also had some eggplant chunks in my opinion. As it is, a soft wrapper contains an eggplant mushball that is not particularly flavorful and texturally terrible. Arancini work bc of crips exterior and mushy interior. This is mush on mush. I tried the melon granita too out of curiosity and appeal of idea. Also disappointing, sickly melon flavor, rather than fresh and bright. Maybe they used melon syrup? Not good. Little bits of not delicious melon fruit did little to help matters and overall tho I love boba, it doesn't work. Would return to try some more menu items but was disappointed on the whole, and prices are not cheap, tho everything seems pricey lately. Love the concept of shared space and am curious as to the sweets and sourdough. Hats off to creator and entrepreneur Penelope Wong despite my critique. Unreal!!! Still can't believe I was lucky enough to try Penelope's creations. I had to give this a try after seeing her James Beard nomination and WOW it did not disappoint. Being a Seattle native, I like to think I was spoiled with Asian cuisine growing up. Xiao Long Bao in any form is so good, especially these! The hype is so real for this dim sum. While the line is long, service is quick and friendly. Glad we were able to walk up a few weeks back while at Call to Arms! Enjoyed TikTok star, Susi Vidal's delish beer while waiting. OVERRATED!! The local dim sum restaurant may actually be just as good or even better. Maybe coming from the Bay Area, I have been fortunate to have some amazing Asian food, still, I believe it can be just as great anywhere else. There is NO reason to stand in line for 60 minutes AND wait 60 minutes to get your food. Flavors were ok, seriously, just ok, sadly nothing special and don't understand the rave reviews or the accolades. To charge the high prices of what you get for this food is NOT worth it and you're not even at a brick and mortar to enjoy it is ridiculous. Portions are small and not worth the $. You will be hungry after spending $80 for 3 people. Sadly, the best dish is the forbidden rice pudding, which is not hard to make. It's sad and does not live up to the hype. If it's around and you don't have to wait more than 5 minutes, get it. Otherwise, don't waste your time on it. You'll be sorely disappointed. Lastly, the preorders is a joke. There is a line for people to pick up their preorder while others are in line waiting to order. And preorders are allowed to order additional items without waiting in line. How is this ok? Either do all online order or make people stand in line. It would be ok if you charged a premium to preorder, otherwise, don't give one group privileges over another group. Extremely off putting. What a fantastic meal. Loved everything we ordered. Delicious! Our waitress was great and very helpful in choosing the perfect bites for our lunch based on our varied food and heat preferences. The space is small enough to be intimate without being so tiny you feel like you are listening in on other tables. I've enjoyed everything I've ordered here, but I was a little let down by their XL XLB, when I finally got to try it on my second visit. So, why was I let down by their XL XLB? First: A little background... it took a year for me to finally have the MANY things I needed to happen at once for me to make it out to finally try them: 1) I needed to be aware of an upcoming truck date 2) I needed to be aware and available at 10amish the day before they were going to be selling food 3) I needed to be able to drive from my home northwest of Denver to the truck location at the time available for me to pickup my order 4) They needed to actually be selling their XLB, on that particular day, 5) They needed to be not sold out, to place the order. Why does this annoying set of hoops matter? I wasn't going to drive an hour out of my way to get to the truck and merely hope they have some for sale on-site, still. Second, because it was hyped up for so long, my expectations were too high. Everyone in the Denver Foodies group recommended this place whenever XLB came up for ages and ages. Third, and most importantly, while I enjoyed the flavors of their filling, there was basically no soup INSIDE, and that rubbed me extra wrong because of my biggest criticism--the dumpling was too thick, and you can't eat it the way you normally eat XLB. read more

I have wanted to try this restaurant for ages but it was always hard to find the right time so when I saw they switched to lunch times, I made a reservation for my hubby's birthday. He was thrilled and absolutely loved the food. My favorite was the bao sandwich with the Dr Pepper beef or whatever they called it. The wontons in chili were delicious. I'm not a huge fan of cooked shrimp but the honey walnut glaze on these ones was good. The egg rolls were a little oily tasting for me but I enjoyed everything. I wish we could have ordered one of everything so I guess we'll just have to go back. These are the BEST wontons. I have had wontons from this truck a few times and Penelope never disappoints. It is best to preorder. You can catch that on their Instagram account. They post the day before when they are taking preorders and it is the fastest and guarantees you get food. If you preorder you can jump the line and get your food in 30 seconds. I highly suggest the chili wontons. They are amazing and a great staple. Those are my favorite. They also have noodles, bao buns and dumplings. The rumors are true! After hearing the buzz about this place for months and drooling over their photos on Instagram, I was beyond excited to see the Yuan Wonton parked in the DTC on President's Day. Despite the frigid temperatures, my husband and I ventured to One Belleview Station (right in the heart of the DTC) to see what the fuss was about - and learned a few things along the way! First of all - be prepared to wait. Countless people told me to arrive early, which definitely pays off. We arrived about 45 minutes before opening and a line had already formed. Granted there were about 10 people ahead of us, but a line nonetheless. That quadrupled in the 45 minute wait, with the line snaking around the building. COME EARLY. Secondly - The menu differs day to day, so the best way to see what's on tap for a day of visit, is their Instagram page. If you'd rather be surprised, the chalkboard menu is updated just before the window opens! If you're like me, just order one of everything - to experience it all! *TIP - a secret menu item is offered daily (that's not written on the displayed menu), and only announced via Instagram stories! Lastly - The addiction is real. Having never tasted a true dumpling, I didn't really know what to expect and was absolutely blown away by the amazing flavors and quality of food created right in the little truck. Penelope Wong is a true badass and HAND MAKES each dumpling, seriously creating the perfect bite. Because we chose to sample the entire menu, we noshed on 3 different styles of dumplings (Chili, Eggplant and Chicken Satay), Mapo Tofu, Gai Gok Fan and the secret menu item - all of which were delicious! The famous chili wontons are no joke - and gobbled up first! Again, be prepared to wait, as each item is made to order, creating a killer fresh meal. Yum with a bit of ooooohhh spicy!! Currently we are in the month April of the continuous shelter in place lockdown. Even before this, Yuan Wonton has been a must for me. Now that they started the curbside pickup, I knew it was a need! I do not want to wait in line with a one year who can't sit still haha! They've been going through their online ordering challenges but are working at it and props to them for keeping positive about it! They have literally been selling out in minutes!!! I finally got my order through. I was desperate to try it that I only ordered one chili wontons so that my cart wouldn't say "one item not available" and I'd have to go through the whole fiasco again. The chili wontons.. amazing!! I can understand the hype for them! Is a hype still a hype when it's confirmed amazing? Let me know. They were just the right amount of saucy and spicy. We ate here a few weeks ago and it was good, not great. Super-oily wantons. Wish we'd gotten the Dan-Dan noodles - we saw them delivered to nearby tables and they looked delicious, but we already had our 3 different wantons. The service was impeccable, however. Our server was fantastic! Weird note- we happen to live nearby and after we ate here, I saw McDonald's being delivered to a woman in a chef's apron?! She took 4 McDonald's delivery bags into the restaurant, which was currently closed. Not sure what this says about the food - it could mean a lot of things, but it certainly begs the question of WHY is a chef there getting McDonald's food delivered to a restaurant that was in the running for a James Beard award?? read more

Yuan Wonton has found a willing community of dumpling lovers. I really wanted to give them a higher review, their wontons and dumplings are good, maybe even great, but the cost is hard to justify. After spending close to $30 on a few dumplings and wontons my daughter and I were still really hungry. The menu is constantly changing, while we were there they shifted their offerings a few times. The food is fresh, you can tell they take pride in their craft. After ordering it took a while before we were served. They were friendly, and the crowd was excited and happy to form long lines to get their hands on yummy dumplings. Who would've thought that a dumpling food truck by a female chef and owner would take off like wildfire and start a culinary riot in the 303? Well, me, to be honest! Believe the hype. It's real and well-deserved. These guys absolutely crush it wherever they pop up. They work hard prior to each shift crafting thousands of dumplings by hand. And yes, they sell out each time they're out and about. WARNING: this isn't a normal food truck with normal publicity. Yuan Wonton has cultivated an insane social media following over the last few months. 30 minutes before they open, there's already a line of a few dozen people. Items will sell out. My recommendation? If you're going to commit to flagging down this truck, you get your ass there 30 minutes prior to them opening. Don't get me wrong, it's not convenient, but the most rewarding things in life usually aren't. Famous Chili Wontons - Famous for good reason! The best chili wonton I've ever had. I even told my best friend who owns a dim sum restaurant back in Florida that these are better than his. A perfect bite. I only wish there were six dozen more in an order. XL Xiao Long Bao - Wait until you see the size of this behemoth. It's almost laughable. Again, ridiculously delicious, it's just tough to eat with a pair of chopsticks. Maybe next time I'll eat it like a sandwich! I've sampled a few other items and nothing is remotely close to being average. If your "worst" item is on par to other restaurants "best" items, you know you're doing something right. The only downfall are the wait times and the portion sizes. But I tip my cap to Penelope and her team for taking Denver by storm these last few months. Every major local publication has written about them, every Instagrammer goes crazy for their pop ups, and the response has been extremely positive. Seriously stalking this truck for a few weeks before finding the right day to stop by. We showed up around 5, they open at 4 and ended up waiting bout 45 minutes for food. I was anticipating a wait so it didn't bother me. We ordered: Chili wontons Chicken and ginger dumplings Eggplant dumplings XL bao Cheung Fun Everything came in a box and we headed inside the brewery to chow down. My favorites were the chili wontons and eggplant dumplings!!! The flavors are amazing, the sauce, the skins, everything on point. They're a little small in portion sizes so I would make sure to order a bunch if you're hungry!! Another thing I love about this truck that goes beyond the food is how the owner interacts with us. Loved everything about lunch here! We showed up around noon on Friday and there was a 15 minute wait, but it didn't even end up taking that long to get a table as a walk in. The host and server were wonderful! Very friendly and explained everything on the menu so we could narrow it down since we wanted to order everything.
