The journey of chef Penelope Wong and Yuan Wonton has been incredible. From a food truck to a brick and mortar award winning restaurant, Yuan Wonton is simply an incredible restaurant. The primary focus here is an ever changing list of delicious dumplings and other Chinese classic. The OG chili dumplings are delicious with plump, juicy filling wrapped up in delicate wrappers providing a pleasant toothsome bite. It's perfectly seasoned for me and I love that it's not too salty or oily, allowing you to really enjoy the flavor of the filling with just a touch of chili oil. The potstickers (not pictured cause we absolutely destroyed them) are perfectly fried, though the dumpling wrapper is a touch of the gummy side. Finally the peanut sauce wonton are incredible. Savory, peanutty, and absolutely delicious and definitely a must have if they're on the menu. Finished the meal with a delicious tropical pavlova with lychee and tangerine. The whipped cream is ethereal and the meringue provides a nice contrast of textures and flavor with the fresh fruit. Overall, what more could be said about this place. It's a not so hidden gem that's a must visit for any fan of dumplings, or really anyone. The menu changes often, and the dumplings are so creative. This is definitely a place I look forward to returning time and time again. Now if only someone can convince chef Wong to open for dinner as well.....

Got there a few minutes before opening and was seated at the counter which was great because I could see all the different dishes coming from the kitchen. Food was solid! The bread on the banmih was just the right crunch and the filling was delicious with thick slices of sweetened pork. The chili wontons were amazing and I loved the thin wonton wrapper which allowed me to fully taste the filling. Also had the peanut noodle dish which another great choice! The staff was great. Attentive, informative and friendly. Definitely will!

We went to Yuan Wonton for lunch, an hour before close, so it was not super busy (yay for us). Service was attentive and quick. We would have ordered everything on the menu if our stomachs had the room. I did not take a picture of our menu; it appears this may change pretty often. Looking online, I see many options that weren't on our menu the day we came. We ordered the YW OG chili oil wontons (sauce was on the side due to our little one), Shelby J (this was my favorite), Dan Dan noodles (flavorful but has a kick), spicy peanut sauce wontons (I could drink Ngoc's peanut sauce), mapo tofu sandwich (will get to this one), and a steamed mantou ( I am not sure how to feel about this one. Buns were perfectly steamed but wished there was a subtle sweetness to it). The Mapo tofu sandwich was a highlight for us. Innovative and amazingly executed. Who would've thought a tofu sandwich based off a traditional dish would be so good! The buns were soft, the tofu perfectly crisped for contrast and the sauce made for the lingering Sichuan burn. Overall, I would recommend Yuan Wonton. Yes, it is a little pricey for what people think they may be getting but there's no price to the thought, innovation and heart put into their menu items. James Beard Nominee - well deserved.

Called ahead and ordered pickup for a Friday and staff was super nice! Food is delicious!! Wish I had gone here sooner. The chili oil wontons are literally perfection!! One of the best bites I've had in Denver. I also go the chive buns that were very yummy too!

This place has been on our list to check out for forever, we finally tried it. What we got: - OG chili wontons - mussels - cebiche - boa bun vegan The mussels and cebiche were our favorites. Everything seasoned beautifully and tasted great. The OG chili wontons were a let down. Needed more seasoning and I've had better at a lot of places. I expected more. The boa bun was good. The service was really great from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. I'm glad we came and tried this place out but I won't be back. I felt this place was a solid 3.5 stars and overpriced.

This is an example of a place that knows what it is and does it flawlessly. While the OG Wontons and Shelby Js were really good, what clinched Yuan Wonton a 5-star rating for me was the Pad Krapao Potstickers. One of the best potstickers I've ever had and the dipping sauce was out of this world. I will say this isn't a cheap lunch. Our server said she usually recommends 3-4 things for a party of 2. We weren't super hungry when we arrived, and we started with 2 dishes and then put in a 3rd. Plus drinks, you're easily spending over $60. The spot is cute, the staff is nice, but really you're going for the food. With that said, if price is a concern I think your money might go farther elsewhere when it comes to the experience as a whole. As out-of-towners on vacation we were happy we got to try Yuan Wonton and would definitely go back.

OMG Yuan Wonton is some of the best food we have had in Denver recently...or ever! This is our second time visiting them. We had been trying to go on a Thursday as our hands-down favorite at our first visit was the YW XL XLB (xiao long bao), and it just so happens to be only available on Thursdays, at least for now. This time we ordered two YW XL XLB, the Shelby J's, and a salt & pepper chicken sandwich. Everything was fantastic! The XL XLB's were exactly what we remembered them being, and incredibly delicious! The chicken sandwich was also a standout. The Chinese flour roll was so unique, and the chicken was moist and flavorful. The Shelby J's pan fried baos were great too, we just regretted ordering it the same time as the XLB as the filling was the same as (I think) the filling on the XLB minus the house bone broth. We wished we had thought about this and should have opted for something else with an entirely different flavor profile, like the Tom Kha chicken wontons. Nevertheless the Shelby J's were delicious! It all was! Make sure you follow them on Instagram and you can keep up with their changing menu and plan the day you visit accordingly. And best of luck to Penelope Wong who is a finalist for a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mountain (CO, ID, MT, UT, WY)!! Fingers crossed this amazing lady wins as she is so incredibly talented & so well deserving of the recognition!!

2nd visit. Today is Denver hottest March day so far. I came for lunch hoping I could sit at the bar. Score!! I started with the Lemony Snicket cocktail. Very lemony and very smooth. Today's lunch menu includes the OG Chili Oil Wontons and several new items. As a test, they are offering a food flight of 8 Ala carte choices + ice cream for $48. It went over well, so that by 230pm they topped offering it. Which is good since they close at 3pm. I was served by Justin H. My first food was the vegan Szechuan Eggplant Dumplings. Eight well filled dumplings with dipping sauce. Very hot and yummy. I got a 2nd Lemony Snicket. Next was the Scallion Pancake Sammich with scrambled eggs with chili oil & chives aioli with a mayonnaise dip. Nice and spicy. They offered a steak knife to cut it, but this handheld didn't need it. I noticed at 230pm that the dining room was mostly full and several tables on the patio was occupied. Very clean and airy atmosphere.

Trendy ambiance with indoor and outdoor seating, friendly staff. We came for happy hour and split 5 dishes between 4 of us (good amount, we were all mostly full after) Plates we got in order of my preference: 1. OG wontons x2 - don't skip this! Comes smothered in chili oil 2. Prad krapao- minced meat stir fried on top of a mound of white rice with an easy over egg on top you can break 3. Shu Mai- pork and mushroom dumpling w thin skin and sweet -ish sauce to dip in 4. Crispy garlic noodles - vegetarian but great flavor. Tip is to pour the leftover chili oil from the wontons into the noodles for some spice

What a treat it was to have lunch at the very popular Yuan Wonton. With a simple yet flavorful rotating menu, Chef/Owner Penelope Wong gets it right! We were a party of four and decided to share many dishes. The Gua Bao Birria was filled with Dr Pepper Braised Beef and balanced with house pickles and slaw. The chicken satay dumplings were delicious, along with the peanut sauce. Of course, the YW OG Chili Wontons were an explosion of flavor and a must-order. The Pad Krapao Potstickers are a fun dish to crack to get to the treat. Our final dish, the Mongolian Beef, was twice-fried and perfectly tender. Our only wish was either to serve smaller pieces or with a knife. Service was attentive and our water glasses were kept full. They do ask that checks are not split so be prepared to Zelle or Venmo your friend or bring cash.

Excellent quality dumpling spot with a variety of menu items that change daily! We tried the Shelby J's, arguably one of the best and softest bao buns I've ever had, Tom kha wontons which had an excellent texture as well as great sauce, and the beef chow fun (Wednesday's only!) which had wonderful homemade rice noodles, quality beef and the most divine caramelized onions. Service was impeccable too, great host and very kind and knowledgeable waitress! Finally, great seating area and in a cute little shop area of Park Hill with a kids playground right outside between Yuan and Sexy Pizza Pricey but def coming back for the quality :)

Have wanted to eat here forever and finally got the chance after an event. Chef Penelope Wong was kind enough to host a celebratory lunch for us. We were welcomed at once by her staff even though they didn't know us. Friendly and welcoming to everyone, they are so cheerful and polite. The place is bright and inviting with patio seating available. Such a calming atmosphere. The food is delicious. Everyone has something different and it was all good. I picked at different plates and was not disappointed by the delicacy of the wontons, potstickers or dessert. A balance of sweet and savory with intricate sauces. Sauces which bring back childhood memories of grandma's cooking while the main dish is Asian with a twist. Like the chicken satay dumplings I had. And the pad krapao potstickers were heavenly. And of course I loved the YW OG chili oil wontons. I've been craving the delicate and thin wonton skins which most places do not serve. These were an answer to my prayers. If more Asian restaurants made the wontons so delicately they'd sell out for sure. So pretty too. I will have to make an effort to come back. Maybe take a day off. Street parking with a park right outside so you could purchase to go and sit at a picnic table while the kids play. Patio seating if you want to have some sun. Shared restrooms.

There's no denying that the chef(s) take complete pride in the quality of the food. The wontons are stunning by look, deliciously homemade outer layer, and beautifully crafted sauces. We tried an assortment. Some weren't my personal flavor profile but nothing against the quality. (1) Spicy peanut wontons: that sauce is spoon-able. Soooo damn good! I wouldn't consider it spicy either and I have a lower spice tolerance (2) OG wontons: really good. Good sauce. On the spicy end but you can get the sauce on the side. (3) eggplant dumplings: these are very veggie flavor forward. You can really taste the spinach outer layer and the eggplant is super prevalent. The sauce was amazing though! This one wasn't my personal favorite but it wasn't because of a lack of effort on the chefs part. Service was a bit slow during lunch but all good. Ambience is cute and cozy. We made a reservation for lunch and it seemed like we needed it. Almost all tables were full on a Tuesday. Overall, beautiful dishes and the chef should be proud!

Shrimp Shumai: this was the first item I took out of the bag and disappointment was the first feeling I felt. I should've trusted my gut when I saw the name of the dish but the photo didn't match. I based it off the photo and what was delivered was not what was in the photo. Instead, I got these small, nickel sized diameter "dumplings" that are straight up mushy. Xiao long bao: maybe it was delivery issue, but all dumplings were broken, and the soup leaked. Aside from this, the wrapping is thick especially at the top where the twist is. The filling is also mushy but better than the shrimp Shumai. I still wouldn't get this again. Chili wontons: again, maybe a delivery issue but there wasn't a lot of chili oil since it leaked out of the bag. Aside from that, the wrapper was thick. Filling was meh. Mapo tofu: just okay but again, very hard to mess up mapo tofu in general imo. Lacks meat. Probably the best thing out of what I ordered unfortunately
