We went with the Yugo Ramen which was $13.50 and I added roasted garlic for $1 to give it more flavor. When the ramen arrived, it didn't have too much flavor going on. The broth was okay and the ramen noodles were also okay. I enjoyed the Cha Shu pork because it was nice and fatty. It was missing something, maybe some additional spice? The roasted garlic didn't help it too far along. The egg though was awesome for me, but my sister's egg was too cooked for her liking. Calamari legs were yummy but way too greasy. I had really high hopes for this place since the reviews were good and there was a large crowd outside the restaurant when I went. Service is GREAT here. They're very friendly and quick to help you if you ask. However, the ramen was just so-so to me and does not seem to warrant a 4-star average (but to each their own). I'm thinking the good ratings are because there are no other good ramen spots in Newark but there are plenty that I will not name in Union City and Santa Clara... The soup was kinda bland if I'm being honest and adding the spice changed up the flavor entirely in a bad way. I had my boyfriends ramen without the spice and it was still bland. The noodles were a little on the soft side and the Chashu was flavorless. Normally good chashu is tender and has a nice flavor soaked in but this just tasted like boiled pork. The egg was actually nicely soft boiled for me. Karaage was actually pretty good. I liked the batter and texture. The sauce they included was tasty too. My second 5-Star goes to Yugo Ramen. I ordered two orders of Yugo Ramen and one Miso Ramen. One Lychee Slushy and one taro milk tea with pearls. The Yugo is the black garlic ramen. The ramen texture was just right. Black garlic flavor was mild. Broth was right level for flavor, not overly salty. The size for ramen was good amount. Broth amount could be a little more. Molten egg was good--yolk was liquidity and egg white was firm. Miso ramen was overall as good as Yugo Ramen but again, broth was a little low. The owner was very kind to had the waitress bring us Karaage (on the house). Very kind gesture and inviting. I asked for the Lychee Slushy to be divided into two cups and they were able to do so. Some places refuses to do split cups without a fee. I called in advance to see how long was wait time for Saturday 1pm time, it was 15mins and accurate. The owner was the one to answer the phone. She recognized my voice when she called my name on the waitlist. She was very nice to offer putting my name on the waitlist. Good service goes a long way. Price was a little high. Staff was nice and checked-in on every table every now and then. Good working ethnics. Waitress was very good at following instructions--the miso ramen order did not want certain items and staff followed instructions perfectly. Good detail attention. She also repeated my order which a lot of workers don't do anymore. The decor is modern and clean. I would recommend others to try it out. Strangely, the parts are not greater than the sum in this case: I ordered the shio ramen with chicken, Yugo Ramen with chicken, unagi don, spicy bamboo shoots, takoyaki, honeymoon and I Lychu specialty drinks. The Ajitsuke egg was the best part of both ramen I tried--the broth of the Yugo Ramen was really savory and had a good depth of flavor, I would say it ranks average in comparison to other ramen around the South Bay. The shio ramen was SUPER super bland bland bland tho, I had to force myself to finish it since it was $13 and afterwards I regretted it anyway because it was such a tasteless waste of calories. The spicy bamboo shoots tasted good but are served cold; I felt like this was the kind of dish that worked better as an extra you pay for on top of your ramen, not as a separate appetizer. I ended up dumping most of it into my shio ramen to not only heat up the bamboo to a temperature I liked, but to also taste any flavor in my broth. The takoyaki was nice and hot, with a crispy outer layer and the takoyaki sauce that came with it wasn't overly tangy--this was the dish I liked best out of all I ordered, although it wasn't exceptionally unique. For the unagi don with all the toppings it came with, separately, it tasted good, but when eaten together it tasted weird--specifically how there was tamago in the don and like a sweet pickled radish--together with the already sweet glaze on top of the unagi itself, it made everything taste overly sweet. Maybe if they had those to the side for you to grab as much as u needed it would've been better. The honeymoon boba tasted kind of like a watermelon jolly rancher--the I Lychu had more of a traditional fruit drink you would get at any boba place. I would say both tasted average compared to other boba places. Access to the restaurant is from the outside only, and there's plenty of parking since it's located in a mall. Eating here was the most comfortable outdoor dining I've had so far. We were safely distanced from other tables and the staff was friendly and attentive. I got the yugo ramen and it was satisfying and filling. Our party of 4 also got the karage chicken and fried rice to share. Both were tasty as well and we had more than enough food. I also got the honeymoon spiked boba. It was fruity and refreshing, without being too sweet or too boozy. I recommend getting any of the spiked boba drinks with a tea base, rather than a milk tea base because milk doesn't combine well with alcohol. Read on to find out why: Ambiance: the shop has a modern feel, with lots of (fake) plants, brick-patterned walls, and metal and dark wood tables and chairs. It's very clean and lovely, great for basic photo ops (guilty as charged!) Service: service was a bit slow, and the waiters did not notice me when I was trying to pay the bill, which was a bit annoying. However, the waitress who brought out food out was really sweet and polite! Food: I got the yugo ramen, which is a tonkotsu broth ramen with a soft-boiled egg, bean sprouts, pickled ginger, bamboo, wood ear mushroom, and a generous helping of chashu. The broth was amazing, and you could definitely tell that it was bone broth stewed for a looooong time. The garlic oil included and the chili i added made it even tastier to me! The chicken karaage was similarly amazing, lots of chewy bits, low fat, and the exterior was incredibly crispy. I couldn't get enough of it when dipped in the tasty sauce that came with it. My only major complaint was the milk tea. The boba wasn't flavored well, so it tasted a bit like plastic. In addition, the tea tasted watered-down, TapEx-style. Overall: everything I got was part of the weekday lunch combo, so it was hella worth. The food was definitely enough to warrant a return trip!!! Next time, though, I would not order the combo if the drink option is the classic milk tea. Suggestion: the lunch combo comes with the drink of the day but nowhere did I see anything listing the drink of the day. I had to ask our server. It may be more convenient to put those on the wall or on the menu, so people can decide if they want that drink or not. IS THIS PLACE KNOWN FOR THEIR RAMEN OR SOMETHING ELSE? When I go to an eatery whose name refers to a specific item I expect that item to be exceptional. That doesn't mean other items cannot be as good but the main items should be better than the other items. I've eaten here twice. The first item I ate here I ordered three items: shoyu ramen, pork belly, and chicken karaage. I first time I had shoyu ramen was at a ramen place in Oakland. I wanted to compare the shoyu ramen at Yugo Ramen versus the one I had in Oakland. The first two dishes were the appetizers - chicken karaage and pork belly. The portion of the chicken karaage are bigger than the chicken nuggets at McDonald's. These weren't skimpy portions you regularly have at Japanese restaurants. Besides the portion these chicken karaage were moist. The dipping sauce for the chicken karaage had a peanut and spicy texture. The pork belly had that fatty, salty, and sweet texture. The taste of the pork belly was here was almost as if I was eating bacon. I was thinking if these appetizers were exceptional than I should expect nothing less from the shoyu ramen. The shoyu ramen in Oakland had a clear broth yet a umami texture. The shoyu ramen at Yugo Ramen had a cloudy broth and the taste didn't excite me. In addition the char siu of the ramen wasn't as good as the pork belly I had as an appetizer. I was disappointed with the shoyu ramen here. I didn't have a bad experience, but I expected the ramen to outshine the other items. I was willing to give this place another try. The second time I came here I ordered two appetizers, but this time I ordered the geso kara (fried calamari legs) and Yugo Wings. For the ramen I ordered Yugo Ramen, which is the name of the restaurant. I expected the Yugo Ramen to be better than the last ramen I had. The fried calamari legs here taste better than the ones at a boba place because they were meatier; you can actually taste the squid. The portion Yugo Wings were huge. What I liked about the Yugo Wings were that they were lightly breaded. In addition they were moist. However be careful of the Yugo Wings because they are pipping hot - at least the ones I ordered. The dipping sauce for the wings is the same as the chicken karaage. As with the first time I really liked the appetizers. The broth of the Yugo Ramen tastes better than the shoyu ramen I ordered here. There was a distinct flavor of this broth. In fact the broth of the Yugo Ramen was the best I had since I had ramen at Oakland. However as with the shoyu ramen I had here the Yugo Ramen didn't wow me with amazement. I believe if you name an item that is a name of the eatery it not only should be your signature dish, but also the best item of that eatery. Since I enjoy the wings and fried calamari legs more I wasn't impressed with the Yugo Ramen. Overall this eatery serves tasty ramen but I think the non-ramen items are better. read more

Ugh, they need to train their employees here! They don't know what they are doing. I know it's a new place, but they have to get it together. We waited 15 mins. until someone came up to us to get our order, it wasn't busy. After ordering, one of the employees gave us the order from a different table twice. We ordered a Ramen Set lunch special, it's ramen, side, and a drink. They forgot to give us the side, and never really checked on us how we are doing, no refills of water too. After eating, took me awhile to get someone to give us to go boxes, I had also asked them if they can take out the side which is a chasu bowl from our bill because we never got it. I was skeptical of trying shopping mall ramen and had just eaten Ramen Nagi a few days ago but it was right next to 24 Hour Fitness so why not? Broth - A fairly light shio broth. Very flavorful (pepper?). Not too salty. Broth could've been hotter (my friend's bowls were fine so I'll give Yugo a pass here). Chasiu - Pretty lean chasiu by my standards. Not a whole lot of flavor but they don't skimp out on the chasiu here. Noodles - A little chewy. Definitely not al dente. They have a great collection of drinks and I asked the waiter which was better between Pink Seduction and Honeymoon He said both were good and suggested the Honeymoon. ($4.50). Squid came out and I dove in. Was cooked perfectly, lightly battered and I was going to town on them. The ramen came out right after and that stinks, I hate when they bring the food on top of each other. Need to do a better job at the timing ( my only complaint). I finished off the squid and started on my ramen. The egg was cooked just right. The chashu pork was delicious and the broth with the garlic was yummy. My drink was unbelievable. It was so good and refreshing. It had little bits of fruit on the bottom that sometimes got stuck on the straw but was yummy. Service was good. Food was good. Really nice inside read more

I highly recommend the lunch special if you like ramen. My boyfriend's favorite is the teri salmon don, and they give you a good portion of salmon! Sometimes we just eat two orders of the pork belly with some of the okonomiyaki fries. If you ask for the fries with sauce on the side, you can get it tasting great even for the fries underneath. Their other appetizers are delicious too, but those are our favorites. :) My favorite drink is the Pink Seduction, but we replace the black pearls with white pearls. I like the jelly texture more than a chewy one. :9 My boyfriend and I have been going to Yugo since it opened. We absolutely love it here! The owner is almost always around, and she comes to greet us. It's a nice warm atmosphere, often times with families taking a break from the mall. We bring our big dog and eat on the patio in warm weather, and the service is always excellent. read more

The place looks great and in the renovated entrance of the Newpark Mall. I got the Yugo Ramen which is essentially black garlic tonkotsu ramen and it was kind of bland and didn't really have much of the black garlic taste since it was used sparingly. The chicken karaage was actually pretty good, it more resembled like kfc chicken and reminded me a lot of it. Also the sukiyaki don was alright, nothing too special, it was standard fare. The one thing I liked about this place is that they have big, generous portions. Word of warning if you get Katsu Don, it's not the usual soy sauce / mirin base sauce. We shoulda paid attention when there was a chilli symbol but we assumed it wouldn't be spicy because it usually isn't. Anyways, the sauce for it tasted like this weird spicy mayo / egg mixture. If you are into that, you might like it but it was kind of a miss. read more
