I'm so sad! Has Yummy Cupcakes changed hands? It used to be so good! I bake for all my friends on their birthdays, but once a year on my birthday my husband gets me these ... if I don't bake them myself, these are the ones I want. Maybe they don't bake on Saturdays?? He went Saturday afternoon late, so they'd be fresh-ish by Sunday morning, when he brought me a box of 4 with my coffee in bed. He's instructed never to put cake in the fridge because it makes it go stale. It was a cool night overnight and I know he left them in the garage hiding from me ... but how can cupcakes get so stale just overnight? They're ALWAYS good the next morning ... but these were dry, firm and crumbly and the filling on the 'hostess' one was beige-edged and cracked. They are also not the same tall shape as they used to be which made me wonder if he went somewhere else (he didn't; it says Yummy Cupcakes on the box and on second thought I saw his phone location there when he went out so I know he didn't get them earlier in the week and pass them off as fresh lol) I thought maybe my expectation was too high because I have always loved these cupcakes and sent so many people there -- but the proof is in the eating, as they say, and I had half of one and plan to chuck the other 3 in the box because they're just not worth eating. The folks here are utterly rude. I would definitely recommend going somewhere else where you know you will receive the proper service for the amount you are paying for with baked goods. I googled Yummy Cupcakes. Encinitas location comes up - I live in San Diego. I place my order on-line - not knowing I was placing them for the Burbank location. Day of going to pick up my order - I drive to the location - walk into the bakery and unbeknownst to me it is no longer Yummy cupcakes - they didn't have my order. It's a new bakery. I call Burbank explain my situation and the lady was rude and condescending. Said not her fault. I then write the owner the e-mail explaining what happened - sent her screenshots that show Encinitas still exist on the website and let her know that I ordered it there unknowingly that I was ordering at Burbank. She replies with I will give you a credit in which I share I don't want a credit - I don't live in Burbank. Why would I want a credit - I asked for a refund. The cupcakes I order are standard - they have these on hand at all times. They weren't a special order by any means. She could have easily refunded me my money & empathized with me. The best ever!! I can't stop thinking about how good the coconut cupcake was.!!! This was my first time in the shop. I went to buy a peanut butter flavor for my hairdresser. Since I was there I thought I need to try one too. I've tried every "gourmet " cupcake across this state and this is by far the best! So MOIST is the cake!!! Just unreal. Just went in for the first time today! Super cute set up! The cupcakes are on display right as you step in. The two ladies working there were super friendly and really helpful. I got the black out cupcake and the orange chocolate. Both were absolutely delicious. The cake part is super moist and not super sweet and the frosting is creamy and melts in your mouth. It adds the perfect amount of sweetness to the whole cupcake without being too much. Also really great price, came out to $7.50 for both. Nice packaging as well, the box top is high enough that it doesn't touch the icing and the cupcakes are secure in their little holders. I was taking the leisure route to the Channel Islands for my birthday to hangout this evening... My phone rings. The man says, "You have a delivery." You can leave flowers for me anytime. So asked, "what is it... because I'm not home". He says, "I'm at your door with 4-dozen cupcakes. I'm leaving it at the door". Who does that? I replied, "I can be back home in an hour and a half. Bring it then. You can't leave it outside for things like bugs." The man replied, "I'm leaving it at the door." And he hung up on me. "Well, I guess I'll back home in an hour and a half". I returned home just not on the 101S because Friday traffic can be ridiculous. So, an hour later I'm home.... A little package on my doorstep. I haven't tried the regular cupcakes, but they make AMAZING, deliciously moist vegan cupcakes, and they carry them in a wide variety of flavors every day. When I last visited Los Angeles, I flew into Burbank and this was pretty much the first stop that my friend wanted to make. Upon arriving, we were the only folks in the store... and we took a bit of time deciding what cupcakes to buy. Mind you, I don't have a huge sweet tooth, but I do enjoy a treat from time to time. I ordered a red velvet cupcake and chocolate espresso cupcake, my friend ordered her own cupcakes, and then we decided to get one of the cupcakes in a jar for a road trip we were taking to San Francisco. The service was friendly enough, though it took some time for the woman who was supposed to be tending the counter to notice my friend and I in there to begin with. All in all though? The experience was just... meh. The cupcakes were too sweet and dense for me, and I agree with the poster who previously noted that the red velvet cupcake didn't have enough cocoa. For a $3.50 plus tax per cupcake, this place charges $.50 for a box to put the cupcake in. Otherwise, they put it in a bag where the frosting gets all smushed. I've spent a lot of $$$ over the years on this place. I would order cupcakes for birthdays. Not anymore!!!! Plus, the lady at the counter was rude and threw my receipt on the counter when I told her that a cupcakery that charges that much per cupcake should provide the packaging for free. I was planning on buying cupcakes as gift treats, but not here. On my son's birthday, I spent a lot of $$ on cupcakes but needed one box for a lone vegan cupcake and I was charged for that box too. I fondly remember the gourmet cupcake boom of the mid-2000s. While everyone was going nuts over Sprinkles, I couldn't care less. While I was sad that I was missing out on the satisfaction everyone got from Sprinkles, it was a blessing in disguise. I wasn't stuck having to make a trip over the hill whenever I craved the best cupcake I've ever had. Instead, I just had to drive a few blocks down Magnolia Blvd to Yummy Cupcakes. The first time I had Yummy Cupcakes was a pretty big deal. They were exponentially better than any other cupcakes out there. They were better than any other dessert in town at that time, period. I fell in love with how they were moist but held perfectly together. I fell in love with their oversized liners that were always just slightly peeled away from the top to catch the generous amount of frosting spilling over the sides. I fell in love with the cream cheese frosting, which ruined all other cream cheese frostings for me. My mom and I spent hours upon hours trying to replicate its silky perfection, but always failed. That frosting was a revelation. I fell in love with how I could always count on the classic flavors being available alongside the ever-changing menu of new flavors, which were often a little strange and experimental but, against all odds, always spectacular. I fell in love with sharing Yummy Cupcakes with my friends and coworkers, and watching them fall in love too. Then I moved away from Burbank, taking my love for those cupcakes with me. Life changed a lot. I got older, I was working full time, I got married. I hardly had time to do laundry let alone drive to Burbank for dessert. But every other year or so, my husband and I would find ourselves in the area for something like an IKEA trip and be slapped in the face with overwhelming excitement when we'd suddenly realize that those cupcakes were finally within our reach. Then the pandemic hit. We were at home from work with little to do but distract ourselves however possible. We jumped to take advantage of how traffic essentially didn't exist anymore and go on quick trips around town that we never could have before. Of course the first destination that came to mind was Burbank, and you know why, but everything was closed for safety at the time. Once the shop opened up again, I had already gone back to work and their limited business hours didn't include time that I was away from the office. Then about a year later, I had a day off from work and while driving around aimlessly, I headed to Burbank without even thinking and found that they were open. Things had changed. A lot. I wasn't greeted at any point. The customer ahead of me was served while the other employee stood off to the side, half-heartedly rearranging things and glancing at me without any acknowledgment. The cupcakes were much smaller than before. The frosting on them was literally half the amount it used to be. I made my joyless selection and wasn't thanked at the end of the transaction. I told the cashier to have a good day and received no response. Was I rudely interrupting something? I left feeling robbed. Of course, what I got was nothing like what it used to be. Nothing like what I fell in love with. They didn't hold together the way they used to. They were crumbly, unsatisfying. None of it tasted or felt the same. I got on Yelp to see if I was alone in how I felt, and of course I wasn't. Many, many customers have complained about how unfriendly the staff is now. Is there a reason why you're not able to change that? After one complaint from a customer feeling unwelcome, you'd insist on making sure it never happens again, if you cared at all. One review in particular stood out to me. A year ago, a customer wrote complaining that, among other things, the cupcakes are smaller than they used to be. Their original size was one of the qualities that made them so special. The owner Tiffini responded to this review saying, "We did take the size down slightly over a year ago based on feedback that the cupcakes were too large and too much for one person." Imagine a paying customer complaining about receiving too much product for what they paid. You can't, because it never happened. I don't know what got into you, why you changed so much for the worst, but don't insult your customers' intelligence. The complete disregard for how unwelcoming you've become and the lies about why your quality has gone downhill are pathetic. In responses to a few other negative reviews, you say you're proud of what you serve. You shouldn't be. You've taken away from many of your loyal original customers one of our favorite things that we thought we could rely on for when we needed a dose of joy and perfection. It hurts especially bad with how much else we've also lost over the past two years. Pull yourselves together and do better, or quit. The way you're operating now is theft. I don't love you anymore, Yummy Cupcakes, and you should really be ashamed of that. read more

I came here to treat myself and I had no idea what I was in for but when I walked in and saw the cupcakes, I was in great expectancy and this place did not disappoint! The Bacon Pancake cupcake is my favorite. The maple syrup icing loaded with bacon and pancake batter tasting cake which also had pieces of bacon inside was like breakfast all rolled up in one bite. The only thing that was missing was the egg and that was in the batter I'm sure and would just be odd so it was perfect!!! It wasn't short on the sweet. The coconut cupcake was my second favorite because the chocolate cake was heavenly and so moist and it was like eating a hostess cupcake from back in the day which has me excited about the old school cupcake. They are all beautifully decorated with the right amount of cake and icing and these aren't tiny cupcakes. The customer service was excellent as well. I'll be back! Easily the best cupcakes ever. Sprinkles, is quite the delicious too, but this one has an edge cause they have very very unique cupcakes as well. Flavors you'd never think would work in a cupcake but it happens. Always made to perfection and it's just a huge treat whenever I get to have a cupcake from Yummy! I pre-ordered special birthday minicupcakes for my my daughter and they put zero effort into having the order prepared prior to pick-up. The two women who packed the order were disorganized and grumpy, substituted some for others and placed them in a box haphazardly. We carefully held the boxes on laps but still the cupcakes were all tipped over a mile later. The kids were good sports about it, but if you're paying "gourmet prices" you expect a little more care. We've been loyal to Yummy for almost a decade now, even with their steepening prices. I appreciate their small batch quality, I just don't like paying $45 for a dozen. The cupcakes are too rich and heavy for my taste, and after this visit I think I'll try the vegan ones or at least something less sweet. The frosting is thick and heavy rather than an airy consistency. The red velvet, carrot and pumpkin are usually my go to if available. Most of our family members can't possibly eat an entire one so we'll just split them in halves. I'm not ready to give up just yet I'll probably try once more! read more

It had been 4 long years since I had the taste of their yummy cupcakes on my lips. I got there around 5pm, it was a Wednesday. I bought a red velvet and a Boston cream pie. I really wished I would have taken a video of my disgusting cupcakes. I've contemplated on writing a review, but I have to stay honest. I don't know if it was because it was later in the day, or Wednesday but my cupcakes DEFINITELY did not taste fresh.
