I came out of "YELP retirement" solely to leave a review about this place. I'm not a sweets guy... never really have been. But my girlfriend convinced me to check this place out, and now I'm obsessed.... this place is probably one of the greatest cupcakeries on earth (pretty sure "cupcakery"is a word). They have a huge, ever changing variety of cupcakes that are truly unique and delicious. French toast. Banana split. Margarita. Peanut butter cup. Blueberry cream cheese. S'mores. You name it, they have it. And their VEGAN cupcakes are also astounding. If you're "anti-vegan" for some strange reason, I challenge you to try one of their vegan cupcakes. This place is the og of the cupcake craze! They've been around for even longer than I've been in LA over 10 years! That says a lot since so many dessert places try and shutter! I enjoy their dozen minis at an affordable price. $21. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. The customer service was rude and could not be bothered when trying to place an order for a bridal shower. Could not order online, and when I had to call they were extremely rude. When the order was picked up it was wrong. The order was short 8 cupcakes, they were all vanilla flavored. When I had placed the order I asked for vanilla and lemon flavored cupcakes. And it was asked that the vegan cupcakes have a different color frosting and they did not. My EXboss ordered these for my going away party and I really could have cared less about the company at that point, because these cupcakes were that good! A few years ago, I would have given this place 5 stars and I would rav about the cupcakes to everyone I knew. But then they started losing quality. They also seem to have had a huge turnover in staff the past couple of years so.... maybe it is the way it is run. Cupcakes used to be fluffy and the frosting high like a wedding cake! Now I go back every few months in hope that they figured it out, but the cake is dense, greasy and "thick" like the measurements are always off or they fell while cooking and the frosting is just a small bit on top like they are cutting costs. I left feeling like I got jipped for my money. I literally go out to the car and pull it out and get pissed off. I think because I remember what the place USED to be. I have mentioned it to the staff but you can tell they just so don't care or have heard it before so often it just doesn't matter and nothing will change. This last time I just finally decided no more chances just because they are local. They offer 18 flavors a day with creative flavors like root beer float, French toast, Elvis, peanut butter bomb and PB & J. Red velvet is the best selling flavor. Cupcake prices range from $2.50 - 3. And they have plenty of sprinkles. I had the Old School - the gourmet Hostess cupcake and it was my clear favorite among the flavors I tried. The chocolate ganache frosting was very good but the cake was dry. The cupcakes with buttercream frosting that I tried (vanilla sprinkle and chocolate with vanilla frosting) had the same flaw - the soft frosting was too sugary and thick and the cake was dry. The vanilla frosting had a good vanilla flavor but it was overwhelmed by the sugar. I bought a ton of cupcakes and everyone thought they were too sugary. The shop is cute with pictures of their cupcakes on the wall and they sell Yummy Cupcakes tote bags, pins and t-shirts. They even have cupcake biscotti - interesting idea. So I highly encourage you to support other small businesses that appreciate their customers. I wanted to get a few individuals birthday cupcakes and asked for a separate box (tiny box, with only a spot for one cupcake) for each (was getting 3) and a female who didn't even look up from her typing on register told me it is A DOLLAR per box after the first one. That's ridiculous. To buy a $5 cupcake with tax and then have to pay for the box? I could buy more cupcakes for that. So anyway... I do not suggest going for individual cupcakes as they try to get more money out of you to simply package. The staff was not very kind when I reacted a bit confused about having to pay more. They offered a bag which would have smushed the frosting. Also- they have coffee but it's like literally Folgers. Some people love chocolate. I like it, but I love vanilla. This bakery must pour a whole bottle of it into each cupcake. And I don't mind. I saw something on TV (Food Network?) about the cupcake craze. I looked up hot cupcake spots in LA and scanned reviews. Sprinkles was nearly universally derided as a scam. Yummy Cupcakes got nearly all positive notices. I was going to make an Ikea run, so I thought, what the heck? The place was a little hard to find, and it's so small, I almost walked into the wrong establishment. The staff were cheery, I liked the decor. The pleasant-looking selection of cupcakes was overwhelming. I settled on one vanilla/vanilla for my daughter, one orange/vanilla for me, and the red velvet and chocolate/chocolate for my husband. My husband wasn't overly impressed with his, but thought they were good. It took me two days to get through mine. Though creamy, the frosting prevented me from consuming it in one sitting. I tried, believe me. My daughter, the sugar fiend, could only manage a few mouse-like bites of the cake, and I think she got it two licks of frosting. Then she smiled weakly, and fell into a sugar coma (TM), cupcake still in hand. The cake tasted freshly baked and was moist. The flavors of both it and frostings were delicious, and perfectly complimented each other on each selection. Vanilla was obviously gourmet vanilla, and the fresh zest used in the orange confection was quite evident. My husband didn't think the chocolate/chocolate or red velvet were flavored strongly enough though. Maybe vanilla is what they do best. Overall, they were good, honest cupcakes. In my opinion these cupcakes taste WAY better than Sprinkles. This is a super cute cupcake shop on Magnolia with good street parking. Their cupcakes are yummy! They also have unique flavors you can try everyday. They do put a lot of frosting on it but honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. Also, if you do take some home, heat it up for 10 secs in the microwave and they taste so good. Yummy Cupcakes is also featured on the FoodNetwork for their Cupcake In a Jar. I haven't tried it but it seems to be a hit. So anyway, these are all the ones I have tried: Old School- Chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache on top with cream in the middle. YUM Red Velvet/Vanilla/Chocolate- These are alright nothing special. Tin Roof Top- Chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache in the center with chocolate frosting with peanuts inside. This is my favorite because I am a huge fan of putting peanuts in my food wherever it fits. Honey Vanilla Cupcake- This one is delicious because the icing is just so light. Yummy Cupcakes, I read the Yelp reviews and trusted my fellow eaters. Turns out they were absolutely, positively correct about this place. I eat a lot of cake, I mean if I didn't have a figure to worry about I'd probably still be rolling to different bake shops to eat right this second. I also bake on a regular basis, and IMO (not being conceited) my red velvet cake is one of the best. Yummy's cupcakes are honest-to-god good. All of the flavors are true to it's title and perfectly moist. The only complaint I have is the amount of frosting, way too much on top. My boyfriend and I made it a point to try their cupcakes since a friend of mine had tried their tomato soup cupcake and couldn't stop raving about its perfectly balanced flavors. When we got to the shop, I saw that they had an Arnold Palmer cupcake and asked the employee if it was any good. She replied that she wasn't a fan of tea flavor so she hadn't tried it. She said that it was infused with black tea in both the batter and the frosting. I decided to get one for myself and then some for my coworkers. I also grabbed a salted caramel chocolate one to try later. My boyfriend loves fruit so he chose the blueberry cheesecake. I immediately tried my cupcake once we got home and was extremely disappointed from the first bite. Not only did the cake cake lack any hints of lemonade and black tea, but lacked any flavor whatsoever! It tastes like a gummy flavorless cupcake. The chocolate cupcake was chocolatey with a few grains of salt on the frosting, but nothing exceptional. The blueberry cheesecake cup cake tasted like blueberries but was really dry. In summary, I was very disappointed especially given the fact that the cupcakes are not cheap by any means. I bought five and paid $17. I've tried a lot of cupcakes since starting my yelp account,but I must admit, Yummy Cupcakes is very close to being my absolute favorite cupcake I've ever eaten. Amazingly lite,not at all overly dense. There are cupcakes that you eat and you really do need a big glass of something to drink. You know what I mean. Your eating it and you swallow what's in your mouth and it just kind of almost gets stuck in your throat. And then there's others that you don't need anything. That's Yummy Cupcakes. The other thing I noticed was that they weren't greasy AT ALL! This say's something about how there preparing them. I would love to hear how they make these wonderful cakes of love. Yea I said it. Cakes of love. One bite of these and that's just what you feel....LOVE. And the frosting... again AMAZING. I tried their snicker-doodle,and like I've been writing,It blew me away. Not at all gritty,like sugar that's not been ground down. At these functions I try and be polite and just take one of this or one of that,but I must admit I went for a second cupcake. (They also have Santa Monica and Brentwood locations.) And they have a TON of vegan AND sugar-free options! Their sampler mini dozen ($20) blows Sweet E's OUT OF THE BATTER!! (See what I did there? There were 3 flavors that were too similar to be in one box: the chocolate/vanilla, the vanilla/chocolate, and the chocolate/cream cheese together (3.5 stars for each). It didn't even need the gummy guy on top because it tastes just like the candy. Reeeeeeally too sweet, though. You have to take every cupcake review with a grain of sugar. (See what I did there? Instead of salt?? Joke?) It really depends on the time of day you purchase and eat your cupcake. Yelpers, rest assured that Yummy ordinarily and most often does NOT have dry cake. The amount of reviews that say they are dry are pretty small considering the over 400 reviews total. *I always do what I call the Sprinkles Test: I leave a cupcake out for a day (never refrigerate your cupcakes!) and eat it the next. If it's still moist and yummy, it is up to Sprinkles' Standards of Moist-osity and Fresh-nemdity. Yummy's full size chocolately salty caramel cupcake passed the test. But it was so rich that I had to save half for the next day. Since I was leaving for the weekend, I put it in the fridge so it wouldn't attract ants (planning to throw it away when I returned). On a whim, that next Monday I microwaved what was left of the cupcake--and YUMM!! It was gooey and warm and delicious. Fun experiment! People are nice here but they always look very tired and ready to go home. The only negative that I can think of is that, when I ordered the box of 12, she put it in the bag so ineptly that every one of the cupcakes toppled over and smeared inside their box :( :( :( Oh, and my coconut cupcake had fibers in the frostings--not hairs! Don't worry, just fibers. COMMENTS ON THE BRANDING: Yummy really has the right idea with their seasonal and daily specials. People get tired of even amazing, quality cupcakes like Sprinkles because their interest is not piqued. You could come in 3 days in a row to Yummy Cupcakes and get a dozen new flavor combinations. Usually, I don't like it when specialty places like cupcakeries experiment with too many things because it can diminish the overall quality of the product. But Yummy has got a knack for keepin' it new and fresh. YC teamed up with Makers Mark Bourbon Whiskey to create a new cupcake flavor! I went to the tasting event on June 28th at the Burbank location and was not disappointed. Each person received a Whiskey Caramel Pecan mini cupcake and a Whiskey Chocolate mini cupcake, plus a frosting shot of Whiskey Apple Pie and Whiskey Pudding. The pecan and apple were AMAZING. (I won a cupcake-in-a-jar!!) Okay so I bought some cupcakes for my nephew's 12th birthday and for Mariah's birthday celebration. There alittle on the pricey side for a dozen of individual mini cupcakes go for $20 but Ohhh so good and individual depending if it's plain ( no decorations ) between $2-3 dollars.. The only thing I would recommend is that you eat them the same day as you purchase them. When we had Mariah's cupcakes, they didn't taste as moist as the day before.. so either I should had left them out or shouldn't had put them in the fridge. I first found out about this cupcake shop because it is one of the few cupcakeries that shows up in my GPS navigator. This must mean it's been around for a while so it's gotta be good, right? The website says 1995. The cake in the cupcake is moist enough so that it's not dry yet not wet. The different frostings are a treat themselves - each with its unique flavor and not too sweet. Red velvet is a good choice here, but you really can't go wrong with anything. I also really liked their banana cream cupcake. I first visited shortly after they opened in 2005 and picked up a Red Velvet with much anticipation only to be greeted with a mouthful of dry crumbs. I thought I would give them another chance and stopped by after a couple of hours of thrifting. The place was all abuzz and I asked if it was okay to take pictures. The owner, Tiffany, came out to see why I was taking pictures and was really nice and enthusiastic. I sheepishly told her about my first experience and she was appalled and apologized. Later, as I was picking out my cupcakes she presented me with a red velvet on the house. such nifty customer service, I was pleasantly surprised. I took my cupcakes home and sampled them over the evening and next day the cakes were moist and I suppose if I were a frosting whore I would give the place 5 stars but I'm not. For me, the sweetness of the frosting overpowered the cake. I'm a cake girl so for me, Yummy Cupcakes have too much sweet to them. The frosting is actually pretty good chilled and chiseled off to snack on like candy. Out of the flavors I picked up, my favorite was the lemon tart. I couldn't taste the lemon in the cake but the citrus flavor in the frosting was highly pronounced. All the cupcakes make for excellent picture taking though. Overall, three stars for the cakes and an extra for the service. If you are a frosting person, these are probably the cupcake for you. If not, you may want to head over to Cafe Unforgettable Cakes the prices are a tiny bit less and the frosting even more so. Yay for cupcakes! read more

I Yelped this place before I came here today and thought that I would be tempted by a variety of different flavoured cupcakes. Nope. Only the Red Velvet was calling out to me. Since the Oscars were tonight, specifically the Red Carpet Velvet was calling out to me. Yes, it's 50 cents more than their regular red velvet, but it looked so much prettier! It had gold sparkles and a fondant gold star on it. So I got it. It is GOOD. I've had not-so-great red velvet cupcakes and this was not it. I wouldn't say it's the best red velvet cupcake, because it wasn't, but it was pretty good. Of course, I could be saying that because I had low expectations after going to the actual store or because I consumed with a glass of milk (myGAWD the cupcake was uber sweet).. but let's just say I'm saying that because it's actually good. So for the Red Carpet Velvet cupcake, I'll give this place three stars. In my very humble opinion they are better than...wait for it...Sprinkles. Have I had Sprinkles? Yes I have. They are good. But not as good as my lovely Yummy Cupcakes. I love to buy them for special occasions. And sometimes for "not-so-special" times. Let's face it, the cupcakes are good. Damn good. So damn good, I sometimes sneak off after work and buy one or two of the ginormous cupcake deliciousness all for myself. But a girl can't live off "Fudge Yummy" and "Red Velvet" cupcakes alone. No. A girl needs milk. 1% milk to be exact. So imagine it. There I am, driving my little car all the way from deep, deep inside the San Fernando Valley into a small street in Burbank, dashing inside the cute little pink/white storefront and then busting a groove on the 101 heading back to Los Angeles and into the sanctuary of my bright yellow kitchen where an icy cold gallon of milk awaits my arrival. If traffic cooperates (as all Angelenos know it often does not) I can get home from work, with my cupcake detour) in about an hour. But I can't do this too often. Each of those little heaven sent morsals cost $3.00...EACH. So, I must stop. For a while at least, because my bank account is none to happy with me at the moment. It's been getting a workout this holiday season. Which is frankly, the only thing in my life that's been getting a workout. My waistline has yet to forgive me. On a side note that may interest former Universal Studios Hollywood employees circa 1999-2003, I discovered that the owner is Tiffani Soforenko. I called my friend and was like...."OhMiGawd! Tiffani! OMG, I totally remember her pregnant in a brown suit walking through the theme park asking us why we weren't wearing our Santa hats!..." But I digress... She was my former boss's -- former boss. LOL. First of all, "Yummy" is a lot to live up when you got 6 (basic) flavors. The price is fine for a cupcake, if it was as great as they claim. Secondly, I've walked in there 3 times. Each time they LEGIT, seemed like they had NO time for me. I mean, I know I'm not a housewives walking in here in yoga pants and and hubby's Amex, but damn. lol I still got I coin I can throw in. Also, considering, I was the only person in there I expected I don't know, to be greeted. Every time I walked in I was kinda optimistic. (kinda like you do when you watch a new season of Orange Is the New Black? You think it's gonna be different from the last, but each time it's even more disappointing.) Came to this spot to support a local business. The cupcakes are pretty good! I really liked the Brown sugar cinnamon, the Yellow tart and the French toast flavors! The icing has too much sugar in it and that makes the cupcakes too sweet. If they cut down the sugar by half, they will actually have good cupcakes! read more

This place is way better than Sprinkles. Taste, texture and variety sets them apart from Sprinkles. There are so many flavors to choose from and hard to resist you just want to order 1 of everything that's available. I've been to the shop during lunch time and the cupcakes that I've had were freshly made. I would be very sad to taste any one of these that are stale.
