Super delicious clay pot! Not salty or oily. Super nice staff!!! Highly recommended. Definitely worth a visit

    BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Rolls

It's a hole in a wall Chinatown restaurant. Can't expect perfect service, but food is usually decent. I'd give this place a solid 3.5 stars for food but rounded up 1/2 a star because we've had better food the other times dining here. BBQ PORK and SHRIMP RICE NOODLE ROLLS: We come here for their rice noodle rolls. They're really soft and melt in your mouth, GOOD! And they give a big portion for that dish. 5/5 BEEF BRISKET WONTON NOODLE SOUP: This dish is good and pretty hearty. Decent flavor and not overly salty. The wonton meat filling was quite soft too. 5/5 STEAMED EGG CUSTARD BUNS: I was disappointed with these buns. They did not taste fresh. In fact, they tasted old even though they were steamed. The bread was hard and inside did not liquify and was also hard and crumbly. I'm assuming that these were frozen or refrigerated and they did not steam them long enough. I think microwaving them would have been better. We won't order this again. 2/5 Next time, we'll stick with the noodle rice rolls because that dish never disappoints!

Didn't get the dim sum so I can only speak to the mains. The food from this place is from the Toisan region so not really my palate food-wise. Tried the porridge, salted fish and pork belly, veggies with garlic and Szechuan fish. I liked the flavor of the latter. Service is a bit slow and the place is intimate.

Would I eat here again if back in the neighborhood and seeking a reliable Pho spot? Probably. Would I come all the way to the Sunset for this (from downtown)? Probably not. Stopped by here for a quick Sunday lunch. Got seated immediately without a wait, restaurant was pretty full. The waiter did stop by a little too quickly after we sat down, but otherwise was very friendly and pleasant (I'm not Vietnamese but yes Asian). Started with an order of the Banh Khot (we actually ordered Banh Cuon, but guess he might have heard us wrong), decent! It was a little bit doughier than some others I've tried, but still good. I personally got the Pho as my entree - generous portions with plenty of sliced beef and beef balls (a custom combo). Thought it was quite good, but definitely one of those meals that leave you a bit thirsty after. Would advise against getting the Viet coffee unless you love your coffee extremely sweet, but otherwise reliable neighborhood spot!

Ever since Yelp came out with a photo contest, I'm less inclined to take pictures? Not good enough? Or have people already catched that beautiful photo? Or i'm too hungry to care. Probably the latter. You got to try the fish bone claypot. Fried and stewed in clay pot with tofu. Dish for 3 people. Crunch your way to the fish bones, and the tofu will melt in your mouth. So much flavor, of course, garlic. Tiny cabbage, but not enough. Tiny gravy. Also, I had bittermelon wrapped in rice noodle. It's an acquired taste with bittermelon. Stick to getting a whole plate of bittermelon. the fried dim sum (ham siu gok) that is light beige color really hit the hungry spot. So fresh. Cash only. Be brave , try the fish bone with tofu. There is lots of fish meat. I just emphasize tasting the crunchy fried bones. You won't regret it. Also had the rice noodle with chicken. Just watch what the seniors eat and copy them. They know what's good. This place is so affordable and good. For the price we pay we get two meals and leftovers. Tea is $1 per person but it is real tea leaves not that tea bag thing. The service was great. You scream in cantonese, and they listen. Go for the food. They are busy and sorry this is not the michelin service.

This is what we were looking for - an old-school dim sum place. This place can be a little intimidating for tourists and those not used to the ways of Chinatown, but get yourself over to this place (next to the former New Asia/Asia Garden that has now been converted into a market). 90% of the clientele are old folks from Chinatown, but we managed to grab a table. Interesting that the chairs have these fancy covers - something tells me they got them when New Asia closed next door. They have a limited dim sum menu, but you just need to ask for some of your favorites and they'll get it for you if they make it. We ordered lots of dishes for the four of us and it was $74 total! We added a few more dishes after we initially ordered and the waitress had a recommendation or two as well. The real slice of Chinatown was one table that broke out a bottle of Jameson Irish Whisky (full-size fifth) and a table that had a compact Hennesey bottle (clearly had been refilled before). There was also the table of 5 old guys in the back who were just shooting the bull - no food in sight. Definitely a slice of Chinatown and we really enjoyed it.

After a long day at the California Academy of Science, my family wanted hot noodle soup and came upon this place. It is a quaint little restaurant with a bunch of locals eating. The atmosphere is very casual pho restaurant. Service was excellent. Our sever was attentive and very helpful. Pho Dac Biet was good. A little sweet so not quite traditional for my taste buds. Chicken pho was good too. The salt and pepper wings were tasty. They had other tasty options that I did not try. Maybe next time. Recommend for a quick fix of Vietnamese food.

Incredible food! We had the lemon chicken, BBQ pork buns, shrimp dumplings, siu mai, and deep fried sesame balls. all were delicious and the service was prompt. despite being english-speakers in the heart of chinatown we were met with patient wait staff. if you're looking for dim sum in SF this is the place! note: cash only!!!

2 kinds of gravy fried rice. Or yin yang fried rice. $11.70
    Benita M.

Looking at the dim sum, price isn't too bad. There is not a lot of selections but it's all under $3. I ordered a 2 kinds of gravy fried rice, or yin yang fried rice $11.70. Expensive and not worth my money. It was SO nasty. Their recipe is not like other places. Their white side was an eggy substance. It was bearable. The other side was some ginger mixed weird taste. Ugh so disgusting. Never coming here again. Ok maybe to try their dimsum but that's it...

Context: Visiting SF, ate tons of Chinese Food before. We only went in because they had my favorite item. I came into the shop and then read the reviews, so I was somewhat worried. I ordered Pan Fried Beef Crispy Noodles and my mom, the House Seafood Rice Noodle and nothing else besides Jasmine Tea. These 2 dishes were ENORMOUS and freaking delicious!! I don't know about the other reviews, but these 2 were not very greasy at all. They didn't skimp out on ingredients either! Tons of beef veggies, noodle, and tons of fish for the dishes. They were extremely delicious. If I ever return to SF and around Chinatown, I'll definitely come back here. For the quality and quantity that I had, even price felt very fair.

The event going off without a hitch was really important, especially because the bride had lost her mom and didn't have her to celebrate this special milestone. I wanted to make sure the order was on time and there were no issues with delivery. I ended up canceling my original order because DoorDash wasn't going to confirm a dasher until the day of the delivery. I re-ordered through DoorDash but this time as a pick up. Again, DoorDash's service was leaving me unsure because they weren't going to send the order through until the pick up day. This was $500 worth of dim sum and I didn't want to take a chance the restaurant didn't receive the order or that they couldn't fulfill it in time. So, I canceled that order as well. I called the restaurant directly. They took my order without hesitation and made me feel at ease that everything will be ready on time. I called again in the morning to confirm my order before leaving for pick up. I couldn't get a hold of anyone, most likely they were busy with their Sunday rush, but they called me back even without me leaving a message! When I arrived my order was ready, The food was hot, packaged so nicely, and everything was clearly prepared with care. I was helped by a very nice staff member who made us feel like we were longtime customers. My daughter and her friends absolutely loved the food! Thank you so much, Dumpling House. This is our "official" dim sum option for weeknight take out. Personal favorites for me are always going to be the salt/pepper wings, the steamed pork buns, the crystal shrimp dumplings, and the scallion pancakes. My wife loves the soup dumplings, the shu mai. We could eat those dishes every week until we die pretty much, they are reliably good and comforting. Particular shout out on the pork buns though because they are just the absolute best consistency from a filling/bun standpoint. Soft, pillowy, they are glorious. I used to get pork buns from Good Mong Kok Bakery, but tbh, this is about 10x better. The soup dumpling also are quite good, I like the spicy ones but the black truffle is defintely worth it for the occasional splurge. They give you the red vinegar for it too which not all places do. Everything one needs to enjoy. I haven't been in person so I couldn't speak for the service or the location, but if you want a spot that delivers on time and often includes items for free (the pork buns are now free for orders over $50), this is great value and just great food. Naturally, I thought the same would be for this location, ordering for delivery. Sadly, I was proved very very wrong. I got a total of 3 items and paid a little over $50 not including tip.First plate, stir fry noodle Shanghai style 0/5. Noodles were stiff, entire plate lacked flavor, it was really dry. The cabbage was just sort of thrown in there and to my surprise, there was chicken (I didn't think it came with meat) and it was so suspicious, one bite and I immediately had to spit it out. It was chewy and tasted uncooked. I began to lose my appetite... Sesame Chicken 0/5 - it was all batter, little to NO meat inside whatsoever. Saucy but it was very clumpy. I was so disappointed with this one. It was literally just eating fried batter in sesame sauce with sesame seeds thrown on top. Braised String Beans - 2.5/5. They were fine, flavored enough with the grilled onions and garlic other than that, not impressive at all. I had really high hopes for this place/order. I had been craving Chinese food for so long and was going to order from my typical place but decided to give this one a try. I definitely should have stuck to what I know would have hit the spot. An absolute waste of $50, so frustrating.

I walked into the restaurant about 45 minutes before closing time at 9:30 PM and several other diners came in after I was seated. The unsettled weather made the people hungry for dumplings. Bao is warm and woody and serene on the inside, a great counterpoint to the bustle of Valencia at every hour. Upon entering there is a large window looking on to the kitchen prep area where culinary experts are often at work constructing the food diners later enjoy on their plates. Tonight a couple of wizards were in the process of making chicken potstickers. Even being vegetarian, just seeing how the dumplings and other items are made is like seeing secrets being shared. I love it and it sets the vibe for the restaurant. My order consisted of the steamed vegetarian buns and sautéed string beans. The buns come out beautifully presented and taste even better: the bun itself is just slightly sweet and that sweetness adds an amazing dimension to the chopped fresh vegetables inside. Can't tell you what any of these veggies are individually and I don't care, they are so good. Next came the sautéed string beans and the sear on the beans themselves was perfect and smoky and delicious. The crispness of the sautee makes the string beans a lovely pairing with the soft yummy of the steamed buns. Last came the sesame balls as a sweet meal ending. The baked bbq pork buns are sweet with a decent amount of filling. The deep fried dumpling is plump, juicy, and crunchy. The shrimp and chive dumplings are my favorite. It's full of shrimp with a slightly thicker skin, which I think adds a nice chewiness. The veggie egg rolls were okay. I personally wouldn't order those, even if I was craving them. The spare ribs had a really nice savory flavor from the sauce. The egg tarts were okay. I need to note that these bags are leftovers from the day, so they're not as fresh. But they held up the next day so I was able to stretch 2 meals out of them. I can't comment on service since these bags are only for pick up. But they quickly provide the bags once the window open. And it's a small space, with maybe 2 tables. So this place is probably best for to-go orders. Their 2g2g bags have more variety than their Chinatown location. Not sure how many dim sum options there are in the Mission, but I would go here if I was in the area and craving a shrimp and chive dumpling.
