I ordered carry out from this restaurant when I moved here a few years ago. The first time I came here, I ordered some breakfast foods, and I thought the restaurant was pretty good. The Z's Crazy Good in Monterey Park has since closed down, but Z's opened a store in Montebello, very close by. I came here with my wife to try something different for lunch, and I must say it was absolutely amazing. I love that Z's has a diverse menu that includes Mexican, American, Italian, and Mediterranean cuisines. The variety allows me to try something different every time. I actually struggled to decide what I wanted that day, but ultimately settled on the gyro plate, which comes with hummus, rice, yogurt sauce, and pita bread. I chose chipotle hummus because I wanted a kick. My wife ordered Oiler's Wet Burrito because she was craving a wet burrito, with spicy salsa on the side. I loved my gyro plate a lot. The pita was super fluffy and soft, and tasted like fresh bread straight out of the oven (as opposed to reheated bread which some restaurants serve). The hummus was tasty and had just enough of a kick without being too overpowering. I also had some of my wife's burrito which was pretty good. Usually when restaurants serve several types of cuisines, the food is usually mediocre. Z's is the exception. I have been coming here for years, before they moved to this newer location, and their food is always good. My favorite is the beef kabob plate, much better than any Mediteranean restaurants in the area, hands down. I used to go to others, but they either changed the type of meat or ingredients to lower quality. Z's quality is always been the bestt, juicy and flavorful. Please never change . This place is ok for food but has a strange definition of combo. They advertise for $4.99 you can make it a combo, " French fries or salad and a drink". We thought it meant you can either choose French fries or salad and you get a drink. They informed us it meant you get 1 of the 3 items for $4.99. That didn't make sense since a drink on the menu is less than $4.99. Nevertheless my friend ordered the combo fries for $4.99 and basically got a half order of fries. I ordered a regular fries for $4.99 and received twice as much. I a not sure if the cashiers knew what a combo meant but it didn't make any sense. read more

Takeout for 4 kabob plates (lulu beef, chicken, salmon, etc), tabuleh, + fries and coke was about $75. The cashier was nice enough and I liked that they didn't auto prompt for a tip. Mostly not bad. Pretty flavorful (heavy onion and garlic flavors) and well cooked meat. Salmon was bad, though imo (too burnt and weak cut/freshness). Go to bachans down the street on Garfield/ Riggin instead. I love z's food always fresh and hot. Not fast food, its good food, done quick kinda. Haha I don't care though. The workers are nice and always smiling. My order is always, and i say that cuz we eat there alot, is correct. The baklava is fabulous when they have it, so is the coffee cake. It's clean and ample parking. It's on a street that makes it easy to get to from different directions. Z's is a great 'Great Restaurant' of Mediterranean, American and Mexican authentic owned dishes and and entrees cuisine. YES - cuisine!, It ain't no fast food! I'm glad they are in the Montbello, CA location and more customers should be there daily (for all those other West LA eateries or hob-nob place locations ---are just pelicans following pelicans or crowd followers) They have all the culinary art, dishes (eat in) and serving preparedness of the entre when served to you. A group of friends met at Z's for lunch. One of the gals had gone by the day before, so they had a table to sit 8 of us. The food is good. Several of us had salads, Cobb and the Asian. Both do fresh. I love the Super Raffis Kebab plate and the Beef and chicken gyros here. They do not have any lamb kebabs. I was a little disappointed in that, because I love the Lamb plates. Been here a few times and the food was pretty good.. guess that is a thing of the past. Was in a few days ago with some work friends and man, what a disappointment. I mistakenly order the gyro plate.. I mean this is supposed to be a Mediterranean restaurant right? Well... I literally got six paper thin, dry and crispy slices of what I think was supposed to be gyro meat, but it looked more like thinly sliced canned meat... This has been a favorite for years, usually order #202. The last two times it has been very disappointing. Have they changed hands?

I discovered this restaurant a few months ago, and have since recommended it to some of my coworkers, because it's maybe about 8 minutes' drive from our office. We've only been here a small handful of times, and have only tried a fraction of the items on the menu (it's an extensive menu, which includes Middle Eastern, Mexican, American, and even some Chinese cuisine), but everything we've ordered so far have been either good or even very good. I love their gyro burrito, and I assume the gyro plate is just as good, but in a bit of a different format and presentation. I recommended the gyro burrito to two coworkers, and they both loved it. Today I tried their breakfast sandwich - very fresh and tasty, a good size, and not very expensive. They even bake their baguettes in-house! Speaking of breakfast, they serve their breakfast items all day, which is a big plus. We've also tried the Raffi's Super Kabob Combo, Chubby Burger, Loco Asada Fries, Loyola Cali burrito, cheese pizza, and chicken wings. All quite good overall, and we can tell that they use fresh, quality ingredients. Also, a word on the value. I feel that overall, all the items on the menu are fairly priced, not overpriced like so many other restaurants these days. Also, the portion sizes are generous - not ridiculously huge, but good portions that are may be a little bigger than average. So, quality/fresh ingredients + generous portions + reasonable pricing = good value. Another observation on the pricing and value. I've noticed that, during this pandemic, which third-party food delivery apps/services such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, etc. have become wildly popular, many restaurants will jack up the prices of their items on these delivery apps, since the latter takes a good chunk of the bill as their "commission." Many restaurants are greedy and they charge up to 60-70% more on these delivery apps, compared to their in-store menu pricing. To my pleasant surprise when I did a quick comparison of Z's prices on DoorDash vs the in-store menu, it seemed that all or at least most of the items I compared had the identical prices on DoorDash as their in-store prices. A big thumbs up for that. Moreover, the store is always clean and presentable, and from our experience, the staff has been very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. By the way, my coworkers and I work for a food ingredients manufacturer, we're often trying and discovering new restaurants in the area for lunch, and we all have relatively high standards for food. In addition, I am an R&D Food Scientist and a food connoisseur. In other words, if we speak highly of a restaurant, that's saying a lot. Having some background in the Food & Beverage Industry, as well as the Foodservice Industry, I am well aware that starting and running a restaurant takes a tremendous amount of work, and once you start it up, to maintain or even grow your business, to keep your customers happy, and to have a good image and reputation, all require hard work, good food, great customer service, etc. I believe this restaurant has only been around this location for about 1.5 years, although they have operated out of other locations for ~20 years. We're impressed and happy with them so far, we'd like to encourage them to keep up the good work, and we wish them continued success. (For the record, I don't know the owners or staff at Z's, but have simply been quite impressed with this restaurant, and would like to commend them and recommend them to others.) read more

We bought the kabob meal and the buy 1 get 1 spicy chicken sandwich to go. The chicken sandwich was still crispy even after 20 min drive. The kabob and side dishes tasted so good - they marinated so well. The chicken kabob was so moist compared to others we had. The kids liked the pita bread and hummus. You really feel their love for people and food. Service is exceptional and the food... just as amazing! We had a catered family-style (8 people) Mediterranean meal for welcoming the New Year. Beef Kabobs were seasoned and cooked perfectly (medium). Chicken kabob was tender and rich in flavor. Rice was just right and the taboulé salad was fresh and well-balanced with the right amount of citrusy tang. The colorful variety of hummus makes a party in your mouth, especially the jalapeño one!
