    Black mole

The Pork Shank Cochinita Pibil were served with mole negro, which I think was a bit too strong for me; a bit more sweet plantain would have helped balance it more. The Elk chops were excellent. Service was great.

Some friends recommended Zacatlan, so we decided to try it for dinner. My wife and I shared the rice paper Ceeasar salad, then she ordered the lamb shank barbacoa, and I had the duck legs confit. Both dishes were excellent, with lots of flavor, although each was slightly overcooked. As you can see from the photos, the portions are large. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. We will definitely dine here again during our next trip to Santa Fe.

Rating 3.5, putting 3 since Yelp wont allow me to do half stars. We were staying in Santa Fe and were recommended to try this place by the concierge at our hotel. We thought we would give it a shot, and were pretty disappointed. We tried the Pork Belly, the Caesar salad, the chile relleno, the lamb shank, and the churros. Overall, the flavors just weren't there for me. The pork belly was tender and well cooked but was not that flavorful at all. It was also paired with a strawberry rhubarb tamal which I thought would be interesting but didn't pair well with the pork in my opinion. The lamb shank was perfectly cooked and fell right off the bone. The sauce, beans, and green rice were good but somewhat muted in terms of flavor. I will say the hot sauce that is paired with it, was a nice touch. The churros were the redeeming factor for me and the reason for the 3.5 versus a 3. They were absolutely delish. The caramel and chocolate sauce were really good and the churros were even filled with a cinnamon sugar middle. The service was not on par with what I would expect from a highly regarded restaurant like this. For example, we waited over 20 mins for the churros after placing the order and were not offered dessert options until we asked for the menu. You could almost tell the server was annoyed with us even though we didn't do anything to warrant it. I hate to say this, but I likely wouldn't send anyone here if they are looking for a good meal in Santa Fe.

Superb ambience. Superb food. The vegetarian tower was delectable - who knew marinated tomatoes, eggplant, Avacado, and pesto was so good you'd eat it off the floor!!!! The Robin's Egg was a piece of art. Coconut outer shell. Inner strawberry and raspberry compote. Whipped cream. And the yolk was a hand made mango gelatinous ball that "broke and oozed" just like the yolk of an egg!! We will return the next time we're in Santa Fe to try their other menu items. The Mole Negro is simply the best I've ever eaten anywhere in the continental US.

Can't recommend this place enough. My husband and I came here while visiting from out of town and I'm so glad we stopped here. Christian, our server, was incredible and his recommendations were perfect. We had the squash blossoms as an appetizer, the chile relleno and elk chops for our entrees, and the bread pudding for dinner. Every part of this meal was perfection!

While in Santa Fe for work, my dad's business colleagues had a meal at Zacatlan and we got to tag along. We were so thrilled with our experience. First and foremost, the staff were wonderful. They were kind, patient, and helpful. We had a lot of split check requests, as well as a birthday celebration request. They handled all requests with grace, kindness, and professionalism. Thank you!!! Second, the space is darling! Quaint and intimate, the restaurant has a surprising amount of space for tables and is filled with delightful local art and character. We loved the overall ambiance and general vibe. A perfect reflection of Santa Fe and New Mexican art and architecture! Next up, the drinks were great! With a wide selection of signature cocktails, wines, and local beers, there is a lot to choose from! My spouse got the 7K IPA from Santa Fe Brewery and I got the Hibiscus Margarita. Both were scrumptious. Several other folks got drinks and enjoyed their beverages. The food was the star of the show. Several folks started with the burrata and that was a crowd pleaser. I got the elk medallion special and it was DIVINE and very filling. My spouse got the duck and LOVED the spicy mole sauce. My parents shared the lobster Mac and cheese and loved the flavors. They said it was a bit zippy! Several folks decided to get dessert. The Churros and Flourless Chocolate Cale were crowd pleasers. They brought a Churro dessert with a candle for my dad's birthday and we all sang for him. A wonderful celebration! The prices are expensive, but you pay for the high quality ingredients and innovative recipes! Plan accordingly. Reservations are available and are recommended to ensure you have a spot for dinner. We loved our dinner at Zacatlan and will definitely return the next time we are in town and are looking for an upscale and fabulous dinning experience!

December 2025; Christmas Eve special dinner menu. The food, service and ambiance were all average. The tables were close to each other therefore not a lot of space to move around or have intimate conversation. Each dish was VERY rich. Flavors did not mesh well together. Monkfish chewy, lobster bisque overly rich with little lobster, desserts tasted spiked with alcohol. Only positive: plating was pretty.

Our first restaurant- for brunch- after arriving in Santa Fe. Our friends wanted to try this spot and we were seated right away. The sauce is a converted home with side dining areas pocketed off the small room where you enter. Ambiance is tastefully decorated Mexican and southwestern with sunlight pouring through windows in late morning. We started with a basket of excellent homemade crisp tortillas, house made salsas and guacamole. Our table ordered molé negro, huevos rancheros rojos and scrambled eggs with heirloom cherry tomatoes, wilted arugula and salsa. All of our dishes were filling and tasty but not over the top. Would like to return to try dinner and drinks.

Beautiful spot and cute decor. Great service as well. The pear salad and the bone marrow were delicious. Now to the entree.. the whole red snapper, I was so excited about this, I love whole fish bone, head and everything. However when the fish arrived there was so much going on with the meal (sea photos) , I can't even articulate it well. There was cheesy risotto inside with broccolini and fish fillet etc.. and It wasn't that good either for how it was presented and the fish was dry out for being over fried, sticking to the bones ( most likely frozen fish) It was hard to eat and absolutely the most obnoxious food presentation I've dealt with lol

Although he had some difficulty locating my reservation for a few minutes upon my arrival, my server, Jose, was pretty attentive from the moment I sat at my table til I left. Hearing everything he had to share about their top selling apps and entrees, I decided to order their bone marrow app and red snapper meal. Their bone marrow app was on point! A rather generous portion with four marrows and I liked their flavorings. Their red snapper entree, not so much. It appears that they used a frozen snapper and as someone who buys fresh fishes to cook frequently, I could tell that the fish was frozen. Such a shame as I had higher expectations with zacatlan being a James beard semifinalist. Add to the insult, I feel that their cocktails were not given the proper they deserve - they were diluted for the price you pay (I ordered their house margarita & red sangria). Maybe it was just a bad day that this resto had for my reservation, but I wanted to share this experience for other diners to read and digest.

Last night, we had an amazing dinner at Zacatlan in Santa Fe. Amazing Spanish wine selection with the Garnacha of special note. The octopus (pulpo enamorado a la plancha) was the best in town as we did a pulpo comparison of three restaurants over the last two weeks. Ceviche with homemade blue corn tortillas was really good. The 16 hour beef rib was tender and delicious! Our waiter was attentive and had a great sense of humor. Great place!

A hidden gem tucked behind cowgirl bbq and across the street from Double take! The bone marrow, ceviche and octopus appetizers were great to share and delicious. The octopus was grilled to perfection. The mains were all gorgeous and delicious. The flourless chocolate cake was so rich, sweet and the perfect end to a feast. Pricey but worth it to celebrate or just treat yourself. Great atmosphere and friendly staff.

    Mole Negro Chilaquiles

Went for brunch. 5 years old had French toast, spouse and I tried the mole negro in two variations: enchiladas and chilaquiles. The mole negro has a hint of a slow building burn, very good. We also got the burrata salad - very interesting as an appetizer. At end of the meal we decided to splurge on churros. Service very polite and helpful. Also thoughtful as they brought extra napkins for 5 year old. Ambia Street side parking in a very popular area of Santa Fe. Plan on arriving 10-15 min early to find a spot.

We definitely preferred to European style with almond milk, but I think that we would like the more traditional ones if they were made with milk. We also really liked the brownies, though the Aztec brownie + ice cream gave me an intense caffeine overload--my fault! Our first time here we each got an ice cream, both with fudge and whipped cream. As I said, while the Aztec was delicious, it really was too much for me, but I still ate the whole thing! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed my husband's mint chocolate chip--the peppermint flavor was real--it tasted like they soaked the milk with peppermint leaves to make it, and it was so refreshing! We liked the chocolate truffles and bon bons so much that we ended up buying them as gifts. Our favorite flavors were the sage/goat cheese, peanut butter bar, Aztec round, bourbon pecan, and lavender. Finally, the service was outstanding. The servers were so kind, patient, and helpful. Our first trip the server took the time to write each flavor on our box of chocolates so that we would know what was what. The second server listened as we decided which treats were for which friends, and he wrote their names on each box before wrapping them. So very kind!

Though the chocolates are quite costly, $4-5 per piece. I also had a mint chocolate ice cream. The mint flavor here is so unique, of fresh mint, which might not fit well with people who likes mint chocolate ice cream. I like it though. The ice cream is soft and smooth. Chocolate pieces are creamy Mango smoothie is refreshing. I recommend checking this unique place out when visiting Santa Fe.

We came in here on our last day visiting Santa Fe in the summer and I'm so glad we did, as it was on my list of things to try after perusing Yelp for notables.
