We've been to Zane's several times since we are local to the area and it is usually a pleasant experience. We were recently there for a birthday dinner and they fell flat. The bad: - Our reservation was for 7pm but we weren't seated until 7:30. - We were a party of 10 and some entrees were brought out 10 minutes after the rest of the table was served. - I ordered a skirt steak cooked black and blue (just seared) and it came out well done. - My girlfriend also ordered the skirt steak well done and it also was not correctly cooked. The good: - They brought out another skirt steak to replace the incorrectly cooked one although at that point I declined since people had already been eating for 20 minutes. Hidden gem, and is one of my favorites! I constantly rave about this place because the food is on another level! We tried about half the menu and were weren't disappointed on anything! Especially with a group of four people everyone was satisfied. All drinks were made with fresh ingredients and so was the food. The service is always over the top. Love seeing Christine every time she's very helpful & welcoming! Table favorites: Pesto Shrimp & Black Mussels, Seared Scallops over cauliflower purée was amazing. 10/10 recommend! read more

I have been wanting to try Zane's happy hour for a while now. The happy hour is every Monday-Friday from 5-6:30PM, which is perfect for those who want to do happy hour at a later time than the typical 3-6PM type of places. It is a solid 4 out of 5 star happy hour experience based on food and price. I shared the parmesan fries, truffle tots, and burger between 2 people and it was more than enough food. The truffle tots was the best dish of the night by far. When it came to the table, it looked piping hot. Knowing damn well how hot it was, I still took the risk of eating it. I was exhaling steam and it was super crispy. The tots were full of truffle flavor and there was a nice big portion to share. I would come back to Zane's happy hour for just the tots honestly. I'd likely skip the parmesan fries next time since it was not especially crunch nor flavorful. The burger was decent, but it is not enough to bring me back to the restaurant. It is a nice restaurant in the busy streets of Hermosa Beach. We were seated outside. However, their heaters did not work and we got a bit cold as the sun was setting. My family and I tried this place on July 7th and our waitress was Christine M. We were a party of 7 (including a 6 year old) and when it came to paying our check, it's then I realized why she didn't deliver a proper customer service that didn't occur to me earlier. 20% is automatically added to the bill when it's a large party of 6 or more. Explains why she never checked in, and when requested for something, she would be cold in her response, and as she gave the check, she walked away mid sentence when telling us about the automatic 20%. The worst part, we ordered a caesar salad and I forgot to ask Christine if the dressing has chopped anchovies (some places have it, some don't). As mentioned earlier, she hardly came by to check in so I ended up asking the Host, and she said she'll check in with the kitchen and get back to us. Later, the waitress Christine came back to get the additional orders and since the host hadn't come back yet, I asked Christine the same question and with cold response, she said no it doesn't have fish in it and her facial expression really bothered me with how she responded. Luckily, right at that moment, the host returned and confirmed that the dressing DOES HAVE anchovies in it. So imagine that. Had we relied on the waitress, that didn't bother to get her facts straight or check in with the kitchen, we would've ate it when one of our family members is allergic to fish. Doesn't come with marinara sauce but didn't miss it at all. Mussels with Sausage - 5/5 Mmm! So much flavor in this dish. Not fishy at all. Get this! All these years I passed by Zane's and it was on my list to try. Finally had a chance. As soon as restaurants opened up again, my fellow foodie whom also had never tried Zane's made a reservation. Great staff. Dining Al fresco facing the busy street was ok although I felt a little self-conscious. Our server was so awesome. She replaced our water glasses without us having to ask. The Happy Hour is a great value. Surprised it applied to Friday night as well. We took advantage by ordering Brussels Sprouts and Tater Tots but also ordered our steak medium with the Cauli. The ambience is really nice, albeit a little loud. I prefer the back upstairs area for a more intimate dining experience. The food is tremendous. The artichoke is a must starter. The branzino is one of the best I've had, ever. The salmon and broccolini are perfectly prepared every time. The aioli if great on the artichoke but I always order extra for the bread and veggies. The bartenders take special attention to detail and quality. One of my South Bay favorites for dining and a pre-comedy show drink and appetizer. read more

I had been wanting try Zane's for quite some time and never made it happen - until I dropped in by accident on a Sunday afternoon/evening. My wife and I had spent the afternoon listening to music nearby and thought we'd grab a bite somewhere. Walking by Zane's she said, "I think they have a Happy Hour menu." In we went; found a spot at the bar. Bingo! Lots of great choices, reasonable prices, friendly service and very good food! Burger Parmesan fries Ahi tower Brussels sprouts Loved the bread and tri-dip starter too (complimentary). We were so full we didn't touch the b-sprouts, took them home. A few days later, we were discussing a visit from a colleague of mine coming to town for the week...and where to take her to dinner. Zane's! Another visit, another winner! This time, we wandered off the Happy Hour menu and tried some pasta, scallops, dessert - all delicious! Service was good, a mix of multiple servers and the hostess was sweet - Bella. I really like Zane's, what a find! The point being, if you're going to pay up, it better be hit hit, with an expectation of scoring a few runs. Being stranded at first doesn't win the game. Best decision ever to have our girls holiday dinner at Zane's! They have a great private space upstairs and service is excellent! I especially enjoyed the skirt steak with baked potato and tuna tartare. Honestly almost everything was delicious. I've been a customer here for years, and it's always been good, but the last few times I've noticed they've upped their game considerably. My wife and I have tried just about every restaurant from Long Beach to El Segundo and have always searched for a good steak. Most of the time it's been just meh, ok at best. We always order a filet, and last night tried it at Zane's. Hands down the best filet Mignon I've ever had! My wife, who is even more critical than myself, also agreed. It's funny because places that tout themselves as a steak house don't come close to Zane's for a filet. Not to mention it is served with a side, not as an extra cost, which most restaurants charge for. The atmosphere is great, and is perfect for people watching as well. read more

Delicious food! I'm a sucker for a bread course on the house and it was wonderful served with a tapenade , hummus and olive oil. If you want an ocean view go somewhere else, the patio is all covered up you can't really even see out of it. Happy hour prices were great, and the food classic but all well done. Everything was super delicious. The focaccia (super light and fluffy), fries (best fries I've ever had). We tried salsicce bianco (really good), chicken piccata (solid), burger (great quality meat and fresh tasting), and lobster ravioli (awesome). I rate this four stars though because some portions were on the smaller side i.e. the lobster ravioli, tiramisu. We've been to Zane's a few times over the years so thought we would try it again. We got seated pretty quickly and had some wine with us. The corkage fee is very reasonable. The place was crowded and loud which gave it good energy for a Sat night. Unfortunately, the food didn't work out so well. It took over a half hour to get bread on the table and after us asking for it multiple times. Finally one of the servers told us they ran out so we had to wait for it to cook. They should have said this from the start so we didn't think the servers kept forgetting about us. When the meals came out, one of the skirt steaks were cold. We sent it back. When they returned it, the veggies on the plate were piping hot but the steak was still cold. We sent it back again and told them not to replace it. The rest of the meal was good. The sea bass was delicious and so was the truffle pasta. Our main server seemed a bit out of it and didn't really have much to say. At the end, one of the nicer lady severs told us they would deduct the steak from our bill and also comp one of the appetizers which was appreciated but we would have preferred to have a delicious hot meal instead. read more

This place is not like it used to be. I used to go here all the time with my family growing up and would love it. I took my friend here for Valentine's Day and it was one of the worst experiences ever! Not only did they not give us dessert like they advertised, the food was subpar. The staff secluded themselves to the bar and completely ignored us. It was us and 2 other parties, so there was no excuse for the poor service. When we arrived it was raining outside and 10 min until opening time. We were told by staff member to wait outside until it was open, in the rain. The food and drinks that did arrive were delicious but the wait time was about 45 minutes just to get our appetizers. When we asked for another loaf of bread to keep us full in the meantime, we did not receive it until an hour later. We were told that the bread was "backed up in the kitchen". We were there for a total of an hour and a half, and the only food that we received was our appetizers, we didn't even get our dinner and had to cancel it. Overall, we are really disappointed because the food was delicious but wait time and rude staff would make it so we do not come back. There are plenty of other restaurants to try nearby. read more

Zanes has a great new brunch offering! I usually go to enjoy their dinner menu but now have another tasty option. I had the poke bowl and it was really good and well portioned! I knew it would be high quality tuna because I really like their tuna tartar on the dinner menu. My husband got the breakfast burrito and he enjoyed it as well. The cinnamon donut holes as dessert were amazing. I really recommend trying their weekend brunch and enjoy the great service from everyone there! All the staff is super friendly! This place deserves ZERO stars. THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. First thing I'll say, they served me and my boyfriend 2 glasses of wine (which we did not order) and we said we didn't order them and do not drink but they insisted on just leaving the wine for us. I am only 19 years old! They seriously served me, A MINOR, alcohol unasked for and unwanted. We ordered the rib eye and chicken piccata and waited 45 minutes for the food to arrive. The chicken was okay, about a 6/10. The rib eye was supposed to be medium rare, but instead we received a super dry medium well piece of meat. It was barely edible. Our waitress was not very attentive to us and walked by us many times and never asked us how our food was. And we waited very long to say something to our waitress about the food disappointing us but she never stopped by again until she dropped us the check. When the waitress dropped off the check, she asked if we needed a box for food because both of us had not eaten most of our meals. My boyfriend proceeded to tell her that the steak was super dry and tough and that we just want the check. She said "I wish you let me know Sooner" which frustrated both of us severely because we had been waiting for a good amount of time for her to stop by our table because then we could've had a replacement meal instead of having to leave with upset and hungry stomachs. But it gets way worse!!! She then says that she's going to go talk to the manager. As we waited for 5-10 minutes as she was talking to the manager, we got impatient and both of us felt sick, so we decided to just leave the money on the table and leave. Our bill was $94 and I left $100 bill in the checkbook. As I was walking to my car, The manager and her ran after us SCREAMING "YOU DIDNT PAY FOR THE BILL". I said "yeah I did, there's money on the table but the food f*ckin sucked!" And then the manager, a grown tall man approached me and got in my face and screamed at me not to talk to his waitress that way. With the way this man was acting, he seemed like he was trying to get violent. As a young woman, I was very intimidated and fearful and I said to him that he never needed to raise his voice at customers. My boyfriend proceeded to tell him that we left $100 bill on the table, and then he proceeded to yell and mock him by calling him "rich guy". Then my boyfriend said "there's no need for you to raise your voice at me the food sucked." And they started yelling more and telling us to leave. The only food that we ordered and enjoyed was the calamari. Unfortunately both of us got really bad stomach aches after eating it. The bread was good.
