About a month ago, I placed an order here and unfortunately, there must have been a pretty big mix-up that day because I only received about half of my order. I called the restaurant to let them know, and my boyfriend was already on his way back to pick up the rest. What really impressed me was how incredibly apologetic and accommodating they were. Without me even asking, they offered to completely remake my entire order! I ended up leaving with almost triple what I originally ordered, which I was so grateful for. I'm definitely not someone who looks for free handouts, so I truly appreciated that they went above and beyond to make things right. They even included some of their desserts that I had been wanting to try, which was such a sweet surprise! Mistakes happen, but it's how a business handles them that really stands out. Their customer service was absolutely wonderful, and because of how they treated me, this restaurant will always be in my rotation. I hate to have to write this review because the food is great and the staff is super friendly. Today me and my coworkers went there for lunch, as its our lunch break so are time is limited. We've been here before and we've had plenty of time to order our food (kabobs which says it takes 15 min). Today there must have been some big orders online or over the phone. My receipt says that my order was placed at 11:05 around 11:45 my coworker was tired of waiting and went to the counter, came back and said he canceled his order as his order still wasn't ready, we went up after and asked about our order and was told it was almost ready and we finally got our order at around 11:50. We had to ask for it to go as our lunch break was basically over. Had to rush back to work and didn't really get to enjoy our food as there was no time left. In the end, we should have asked for a refund also as my order was close to 30 by itself. I just really wish they told us there was going to be a delay in prepping the food. I'm sure they knew there was a back up and if they told us it was take closer to 30 min let alone the 45 it actually took. We would have been ok, lets go somewhere else, but at least they let us know. Not waste our time waiting there and not getting to enjoy the food. My coworker has already said, Zankou is out for lunch now after this fiasco. Love the food, wish it was a better experience this time. read more

The firm I work for gets Zankou Chicken catered every once in a while. The Chicken Tarna and Shawerma are flavorful and delicious. The Kabobs are also good. The Garlic Sauce is really good. How many years have I been passing Zankou Chicken and never stopped in? "It was on the wrong side of the street." "It looked like just a take out." "I don't have enough time to stop right now." Those were all lame excuses I had for never stopping in. But last night that changed-forever. Our Wifi was down and Tesla decided to release a huge update, especially affecting the self-drive mode. We needed wifi and there is a Tesla Service station across the street. Bingo! We parked the car at Tesla, knew the download would take about 50 minutes, then walked across the street to Zankou Chicken. The service could not have been any nicer and helpful. Order takers are so welcoming that you abandon your philosophy of "why do I have to tip an order taker?" And you tip them with wild abandon. The ambience inside is nothing to write home about, but it's adequate for enjoying some great food. We sat at a small table right next to a screaming child who was blasting a video game and smacking her little head against the window, and dug into our amazing dinner! We had the half rotisserie chicken cooked to perfection-juicy with crispy skin. For sides we had the basmati rice. I don't know what they do to that rice, but it must be the chicken drippings because that rice was the best I've ever tasted. We also had the Chicken Kabob. For sides we enjoyed the cucumber salad and the basmati rice with hummus. That hummus was outstanding! Both came with oversized fresh hot pita. For under $35, this was an amazing meal. read more

I love this food! I always get the chicken Shawarma bowl and it never disappoints! My two sides are always cucumber salad and cabbage salad. They give you a nice portion of garlic sauce as well. It's been said by one of my middle eastern friends that if the chicken is too soft and juicy it's probably full of brine and other stuff. Service was friendly. Zankou Chicken has some of the best chicken to be had. It is a chain. This one is kept very clean always and parking is not a bear. It is cute inside and out. The service is great. You never have to return your order. You can dine in, take away or have it delivered. We always dine in although they are always in to go boxes. We love all their chicken and their sides. It is supposed to be Mediterranean and I guess it is. They do have such dishes, but for us it is just great chicken. The chicken is always fresh and hot. We always get their half chicken plate, which is rotisserie chicken, served with hummus, tomatoes, garlic sauce, pickled turnips and pita bread. It is just the best. They also have great bowls. We love their chicken bowl with Kalamata olives, cilantro, feta cheese, two toppings and one sauce served over a bed of rice. You can have garlic sauce, hummus, or mutabbal. Their salads are also always fresh, crispy, and delicious. We especially like their cabbage salad that has cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions with a very nice olive oil and garlic dressing. Their sides are also excellent. Pickled turnips comes with most of the chicken dishes. Yummy. They also have wraps and deserts, but we have yet to try those, but they look good. Zankous first opened up in 1983 and now has 12 locations to date. The restaurant is most well-known for their garlic sauce. What I ordered: Chicken Tarna $16.99 Falafel Special $3.69 I came in with high expectations as many people talk about Zankou as have pretty good Mediterranean food. The Chicken Tarna plate was so good and very filling as well. It easily could be shared by 2 people. I ate this for my lunch and dinner combined as I occasionally skip dinners to watch my weight. The hummus was pretty good and the garlic sauce was like crack. I couldn't stop dipping the chicken into the garlic sauce. I also liked the Tahini sauce. They give you two large pieces of pita bread and they are pretty big. It came with a garden salad which was a standard salad. I like how the tomatoes were diced. The falafel special was very good. It had a nice crunch outer layer with it being nice and soft in the inside. I dipped it int all the sauces (separately of course!) and it really elevated it even more. I will definitely come here when I'm craving some Mediterranean food. read more

I've eaten here for years and every single time, it's delicious! I had my car washed down the street so popped over for old times sake since I haven't been here since returning to LA. It did NOT disappoint. I tried their chicken salad and it popped with flavor! Tender, juicy strips of chicken artfully included in the salad with kalamata olives, red onions, cucumbers and tomatoes which is simple enough, but it's dressing that makes it so delicious. But not sure I'd order a drink because it's fountain style and some guy was using his personal water bottle to fill up which was gross. I reported him because I don't like cheaters or disgusting habits that infringe on health safety. The manager was upset too and said she would talk to him. Just order something bottled and you'll be fine. It's very popular, but they have food distribution down to a science so the line moves quickly and you never have to wait. Valet parking is free, but I tipped a dollar and got even better service.:) read more

I've been hearing a lot of high praise about Zankou so I finally tried it and got extra garlic sauce per my friend's rec. The plate was super good. I got the white meat chicken kabob with a side of rice, cucumber salad, and hummus. I really loved the hummus and the garlic sauce was great to mix in with the rice or dip the chicken in!! To hit my delivery order minimum, I also got the eggplant dip with pita bread, but I think the texture is off for me personally. I'm not a very big fan of eggplant to begin with so it's probably just an acquired taste!! Thought it would be like the whipped eggplant dip at Elephante - it is veryyyy different than this. I went to Zankou today. There was a very luxury car in front of me; the driver left it in the middle of the road, walked away, and handed his keys to the valet. I was next in line, but the valet didn't pay any attention to me at all. He went to the cars behind me, took their keys, and parked those cars himself. I told him I was a customer, but he still didn't pay any attention to me. Then a narrow spot opened up, and he told me to park. I said, "Valet, this spot is too narrow; I can't park here. Could you please park my car for me?" But he didn't help me at all. On top of that, he was incredibly rude, used profanity, made racist remarks, and refused to park my car. During that time, I barely managed to park in that very narrow space. I can't even begin to describe the stress I went through. I am requesting a response regarding this incident; I have camera footage from my car. This is discrimination; this is racism. I'm going to write "the worst" everywhere I can. They are well known for their fast food, casual style specifically for their chicken and Shawarma meats. I have known about Zankou for many years but stopped in for my first time for lunch on Friday. They have a fairly large menu with a lot of great options, all with Middle Eastern flavors. They have many tables inside, but most people were getting it to go. They don't have a parking lot but street parking is easy to find and there is a small strip mall next-door that has free parking as well. They were quite busy during their lunch service, but all of my food items came out very quickly after ordering. This is not the best chicken or Shawarma that I have had in Los Angeles, but it is still good. That is why I am giving a 4/5. I chose the combo plate for my meal, which is a mix of chicken and beef. I actually liked the beef a bit more than the chicken, I felt that it was juicier. The portion sizes here are very large and the pricing is very fair so it's quite popular with families and those looking for a good deal. I would recommend and plan to be back to try more items. They are conveniently located all over town so finding one is very quick and easy. read more
