my favorite hot chicken spot in oc! i came on a sunday around 4pm and there was no one inside. there's a good amount of seating and it's very clean! i saw that they also have a drive thru. we got combo #1 which is a sandwich and small order of zecto fries (both medium) and then a 3pc tender combo (mild). the sandwich and fries were very saucy, medium was a bit too spicy for us but the toppings definitely helped combat the spice! the tenders were the perfect spice level. still flavorful without being too spicy. the plain fries were also super yummy. i got them extra crispy! for sauces we liked the comeback sauce and honey the most. the ranch was just okay. overall very good! the man working was really nice and checked in on us a few times to make sure everything was okay. will definitely be coming back‍‍ read more

The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but it actually had a good amount of seating inside which was nice. I ordered one slider and one tender with fries. I got the slider Hot and the tender X-Hot. Surprisingly, I liked the Hot slider more than the X-Hot tender. The Hot had better flavor overall and seemed a lot juicier. The X-Hot definitely brought the heat, but the flavor on the Hot just stood out more to me. The kid working the counter was a little awkward, but still welcoming and helpful when taking my order. The thing about hot chicken places is that, when they work, they soar wonderfully, but when they fail, they fail spectacularly. It's very hard to get right the balance between being pulse-racing hot and cleverly delicious. You either lose the flavor in all that heat or you just don't bring it when it comes to the promise of burning you alive from the inside. I'm glad to say that Zecto's finds that balance. I was thoroughly impressed with how good (and big) the tenders were in their combos. Not only did the sting of some absolutely flaming chicken become noticeable in the first bite, but each belt was also noticeably scrumptious as well. The service was exemplary, as the workers had my back with refills, requests for honey, and to-go boxes. They also just had a pleasant and helpful demeanor when it came to interacting with them. Also, for a fast casual spot, the size was perfect. It had lots of tables for both two and four guests, and even accommodated our six person party admirably. I also thought the location had great parking and a drive-thru option, something you don't see often in the hot chicken game. All in all, this place was great if you want something other than the usual Dave's or Clyde's, and I think I'm a greater person for having eaten there. Keep in mind it's the same guy who we spoke to. He's saying that he didn't say that on the phone and that he won't take our order. So I repeat our conversation word for word as he's now trying to say that isn't what he said. He then says, "I spoke to the cook and well take your order." The owner, Matthew, not only reached out but confirmed our experience was not good and our points of discontent were valid. But he offered us a chance to come back and when we visited, the employee who had been off that night was actually the guy who took our order. He recognized us immediately and apologized and the service was beyond anything we could have imagined. I told him this when leaving the restaurant but wanted to mention it here as well. Ever since my favorite spicy chicken spot in Tustin closed down, nothing has even come close to that kind of heat, but I'm honestly blown away because this tastes just like it...only better!!!
