Stopped by for lunch on a Friday morning to check out the "new" Zingo's Cafe. A lot has stayed the same, but the booths in the center of the dining room were replaced with half a dozen small tables with chairs. The service was awfully slow today, and the cafe was pretty empty compared to how it used to be. I ordered an Ortega cheeseburger and fries ($13.99), and it was unremarkable. My burger fell apart within a couple of bites. Without the ortgea chile, it would have been bland and flavorless. The side of ranch was watery, more like seasoned milk. I stopped in the remodeled restroom to wash my hands and noted it no longer features the famous condom machine, but it still does retain the truckstop bathroom aroma. It's not what it used to be twenty years ago. It lacks the sleezy soul of the original greasy spoon I loved in my youth, but it's still Zingo's, which is better than nothing. read more

Man, I feel let down. I was really excited for a re-vamp of Zingos. I've been going here for well over 15 years of my life and it needed a face lift but the food was just not what I expected. I got the chicken fried steak and eggs. The chicken fried steak itself was good, well seasoned, well fried. The gravy however was an immediate no. It felt like one of those store bought gravy packets you mix with water. It was watery with no flavor. I could immediately tell when they set it down I was not going to be a fan. I like a thick homemade country gravy that is made with love. This was not that. Toast, got sourdough - also no flavor. I'm a bread connoisseur and a good sourdough has THAT taste, IYKYK. Eggs were eggs. Not much to say there. Hash-browns, 5 bites worth, over cooked IMO, usually top layer is crispy and softer below the entire portion was crispy. I'm giving 2 stars because it was about 45 minutes before we got our food, it took 20 minutes to get drinks after we were seated. The chairs/tables are small and uncomfortable as well. They had 2 waitresses for the busy Sunday morning & a girl seating people. The establishment itself is clean, but that should be standard. The staff were nice. Never got refills of our drinks. I left a $6 tip which is around 18% on an almost $40 bill. If you like a home cooked country fried chicken fried steak I would check out Knotty Pine Cafe or something alike. I have been coming to Zingo's for years, but was hesitant to try it again after the new owners took over. I don't know why I waited so long to come back! The food is still good and the restaurant has been remodeled and updated and looks better than ever! The food was delicious and the service is fast and friendly. The serving sizes are HUGE and the bill wasn't too bad! When you walk in, pay attention to the free standing menu board near the door. There are several items listed on that board as the "specials" and you won't find them on the menu, but they should be! (I HIGHLY recommend the hot link sandwich if you see on the specials board!) I usually come during my lunch break - right around 1 pm - and I have had great luck with the restaurant being less busy during this time, so I have plenty of time to come in, order, eat, and get back to work in an hour. Breakfast time is a little more busy, so plan accordingly! read more

BREAKFAST was outstanding. My chili cheese omelette was made with home made chili which was excellent and was served with a good portion of of hash browns properly cooked. My VietNam Veteran brother's ham and cheddar omelette was also good. Waitress was friendly and couldn't have given better service. The food was fresh, tasted very good, and was served to me in the bar, so I could kick it with the homies. Salad was crisp , fresh, with good variety. Steak was hand battered fresh meat. Came in on a Saturday while waiting for my car across the way. Sign said to seat ourselves so we did. We were greeted promptly by our server but from behind us, asking what we would like to drink. I ordered hashbrown and an egg and my friend got the sausage breakfast. Everything was cooked correctly, but her biscuit and gravy was cold (what she was most looking forward to). Our server checked on us multiple times and even took care of our bill. Our only real complaint is that she just wasn't friendly. No smile, no real pause in her step, and the place wasn't slammed (former servers). We felt like an inconvenience. Would I go back? Sure. But it's definitely not a craving. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It was conveniently located next to our hotel. My partner had the Ortega Burger with fries and a side salad. I opted for the breakfast Chicken Fried Steak, scrambled eggs, hash browns and biscuit with gravy. My partner said she liked hers fine. Nothing spectacular but it served its purpose. My scrambled eggs were fine as was the biscuit by itself. The gravy was as bland as it could get. It tasted like creamy flour. Almost no pepper and no sausage or other protein typical with most CFS. The hash browns were boring, and only barely browned. But they were also adequate. We're they lost me was the CFS itself. The batter has no crisp to it but was more like a gelatinous goo on the bottom side. Shared a bite and she said it's texture was like cold, uncrisp, chicken skin. Once I got to get a bite of the steak itself.... I'm not sure how long it has been around but it was literally the toughest CFS I've ever had. I gave it to my dog. So if you're considering eating here, know the burger was mediocre and the CFS and it's gravy, truly miss the mark. Sorry Zingo's. You do not pass go. read more

I know Zingos has been around for a while and sometimes gets overlooked cause it's pretty much a truck stop diner. But Zingo's has always been good to me definitely a step up from Denny's. The inside is not much to look at , it's a typical truck stop diner , but they're churning out some decent breakfast outta there. 4 stars only because it's a bit run down and sometimes a little shady lol but clean. Don't let that deter you away I'd recommend going at least once and judge it for yourself. read more

Not bad! Mom & pop diner similar to Mr. Perry's or Denny's. Clean bathrooms & friendly service! Food was similar to what we would expect from a truckstop diner. The table & cutlery weren't exactly spic and span, but the bathroom was very clean. Don't feel deterred if you notice a lack of diversity in the restaurant. I was about to skip ordering as we were the only persons of color in the restaurant I was very uncomfortable with all the staring and dirty looks from the non-poc patrons. However our server and the owner or manager(?) were both so sweet when welcoming us and helpful when ordering so I decided to order food afterall. My family members enjoyed the chicken strips w/ onion rings, "The Wilbur", the saydsgcountry fried potatoes, and fried okra. I ordered the crispy chicken waffle sandwich but I preferred eating the waffle slices separate from the sandwich itself. New owners have updated the furniture and cleaned the place up. My wife loves the breakfast burritos and they still have much of the same truck stop food, including the chicken fried steak and bisquits and gravy. Omelets and country potatoes. This was our first time stopping since they reopened. We came to have a little breakfast before starting the holiday festivities, and we were NOT disappointed. I'm only sorry that I didn't take pictures, lol If you want a good ole ham steak breakfast- this is your place. You get a steak that even has the bone in it! I don't know about you, but it's been a hot minute since I've seen that. Everything was cooked perfectly! The tastes were amazing, and the service was quick, friendly, and efficient! I am only giving this a three star rating because I like the people working there. The ambiance is a clean truck stop diner. The service is friendly and easily distracted. The food, yes the food. Not much of a menu. Dinner looks a lot like Breakfast, and all of it is mediocre at best. Today my fiancé and I went to eat breakfast thinking that this nice little place was still as good as it once was. We went in and sat down. We then waited and waited for someone to ask us if we wanted anything to drink but no one ever came to our table. Then another couple sat down and as soon as they sat down a waitress went right over to serve them. I was so upset that we got up and left. The service at this place was horrible. I do not remember this place to be like this. I believe it's under new ownership. I do not recommend this place to anyone very bad service. read more

I really recommend anyone who loves diners to really cherish this one. The menu is dead on diner food with the best original sign still standing in town. If you are on a special diet save this place for a cheat day. When I walked in at 8 am the sign said chili verde omelet and I got excited. It was my cheat day so I was overjoyed that it wasn't sold out. For me everything the served was perfect: the taste, way it was cooked and all the sides (whoever complained about the sourdough obviously doesn't order it in a diner setting as it was exactly as I expected, mild). The ladies working that day were attentive and genuine. They were welcoming and can't say enough about how they hustle! I hadn't been there in over 20 years and I love the refresh! read more

Looks like a cute vintage style diner so I wanted to try it. You can't really mess up breakfast but they did. The gravy was so bland and had hardly any taste. I ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs and country potatoes. The chicken fried steak tasted a bit odd and the country potatoes needed seasoning. I am not a picky eater by any means and this is the first place ever that I have tried and made my breakfast not taste well:( Service was pretty fast but not once did the waiter smile at my guest or me. We ended up passing through town on a road trip and stopped for breakfast. The owner & servers were very welcoming. The restaurant was clean and I really appreciate the patriotism of this establishment. From a USA tree to a Wall of Heroes, I bet any veteran would be happy to visit. We are originally from Long Beach and moved out here. We spotted Zingos a couple months ago but it was under remodeling. But we decided to go and have breakfast there. I had the chicken fried chicken which was extraordinary good and it came with hash browns with medium cooked eggs and the whole breakfast was extremely good. The owner came out and chatted for a bit which it gave Zingos a home like feeling. He was very nice and professional and again made us feel like home. The waitress were very friendly and helpful. Very attentive. I would definitely recommend Zingos to friends and family. Next time I'm trying the steak and Eggs. Someone else ordered it but it looked amazing! I have to say that Zingos has the Best Cheese Burger I have had on the West Coast. This small truck stop diner does not hold back when quality , portion, taste, and presentation are concerned. I work to come here at least once a week and they have so many other options but I always tend to go back to my basics. Give them a try you won't be disappointed. read more
