It was a little bland and the Smokey flavor of the chicken overpowered the rest of the quesadilla. The meals came out EXTREMELY FAST. We ordered the steak and chicken fajitas. The steak fajita 4 stars on the flavor. The chicken fajita gets 3.75 stars because the Smokey flavor of the chicken was extremely overpowering. With that said, each one of these fajitas could feed at least 2 people so we had a lot of extra food. I'm pretty sure I'm biased based on the almost 15 years I've been enjoying myself at Z'Tejas. Over the years I've enjoyed the food, the ambiance, and most notably the customer service. Honestly, it's been years since I've felt like a customer as at this point in my living I'm a part of the Z'Tejas family. Every time I'm in I'm reminded from the time I walk in the door that I'm family based on seeing my ChamFruzion being prepared. The staff here over the years has been phenomenal. To this day even former Z'Tejas members that have transitioned away from the restaurant keep in contact and still refer to me as the One and Only ChamFruzion Nick. Manager was a major jerk. We had a 5:30 reservation and a young man came over and said he'd be waiting on us and took our drink order which he did. A couple minutes later a young lady came up and said she would be waiting on us and we told her we had ordered drinks through the young man. The soft drinks & water were brought over and 15 minutes later the waitress told us the alcohol drinks were delayed because they didn't have clean glassware. This was 5:45 and the restaurant was at least 1/2 empty. At 5:50 the manager came over and dropped off the 3-trio salsa appetizer and said he would bring the chips (but he never did). We were glad to see him so we could tell him we were still waiting on drinks and he snapped"we're backed up and the drinks will come out in the order they went in." One in our party said "well, it had been 20 minutes" and the manager snapped "the drink order was just placed, don't use semantics sir" and abruptly walked away. This made no sense because 1) nobody voiced anger toward him and were just wanting him (as the manager) to know asking about the delay in getting our drinks; 2.0 neither the bar nor restaurant appeared busy, and 3.) they obviously had some confusion over who was even waiting on us. This guy was extremely abrupt and rude. I had never had a restaurant manager respond or act like this jerk. He seemed oblivious to the fact that the reason the restaurant was in the apparent bind they were in (multiple staff trying to determine who was waiting on our table, running out of glassware at 5:30 when the bar & restaurant wasn't busy, and drinks taking 25 minutes to come out) was a result of HIS mismanagement! Our waitress was great and tried to compensate for the manager's shortcomings. The food was good (some dishes were too spicy for some), the ambiance is nice but we have no reason to go back given other options that can take the place of Z Tejas - they're nothing special. Finally, having a couple glasses of wine comped and the manager never stopping by to apologize (he was obviously feeling stressed out at the time) for having snapped at us and mistaking when we ordered our drinks was also annoying. By the way, if we hadn't asked the waitress 15 minutes later for the chips the Manager said he was bringing we would still be there. This was Tuesday, March 19th BTW. read more

Nice location and friendly service. Ally was our waitress and we could have not asked for anyone better. She really made the experience that much better. Ally came to check on us often not too much and not too little. She was quick at taking our orders and getting them right the first time(i know it also involves the cook). We started with a trio appetizer, and the guacamole was lacking seasonings, the red salsa was good with a perfect spice to it, and the Chile con queso was not impressive. My mom and I had tacos she had carne asada and I had shrimp. The proteins were really tasty and seasoned just right, but the tortillas were hard on the edges and cold. That part was unappetizing so I ended up eating two of my tacos with no tortilla which is crummy because I ordered tacos. They also brought out cornbread and that cornbread was delicious I could have ate 10 of those, but of course didn't. For sides my mom had rice and it was okay not the best a little dry. I had black beans and the Z salad. Beans were good again a little something was missing. Now the salad was delicious! It was fresh, colorful and it was refreshing eating it. For drinks we had a tea and a lemonade the lemonade did not taste homemade, but I really enjoyed I had about 2 cups of it and that's unlike me. I tend to just drink water with my meals. The restaurant was clean, staff was amazing, but the food was not so great considering there pricing I expected more. Went to the restaurant, remembering how tasty a steak gorganzola fillet was from many years ago. Only to find they don't have a steak on the menu at all. In addition to this, we noticed while walking to our table, that two tables had not been cleaned up. 1/2 eaten hamburgers still on the table. Which gave me doubts about their burgers. Add to this, our waiter didn't come back to take our order for at least ten min. We actually left without ordering. All in all we were there for at least 20 min, and the tables were never cleared. read more

Used to be dark and calming...Now it's lit up like a prison camp. Walls are painted white. No music at all. Concrete floors. I have not been here since 2011. Hard to believe yes. However, we came here the other night for a friends Birthday. We came for Happy Hour. I will start by saying we had the nicest server. This guy was great. He was very attentive and new the menu well. He even brought out a dessert for my Friends Birthday. She was very happy as they even lit candles in it. All the drinks we got were on special for HH.We ordered Cat fish Tacos, which are in a soft shell, a little different but, we all liked them. We also got chips and Salsa with Queso.,very good indeed. Has gone terribly downhill. I have been coming to this Z'tejas for years and years, however we had not been in awhile. The menu and food quality have changed, and not for the better. I realize restaurants have to adapt and change over time, however, my hubby and I both got "jerk" chicken items (salad, which is no longer on the menu, but the waitress stated the chef could still make it, and fajitas). This was not "jerk" chicken it was reddish-orange chicken that tasted like it was cooked in siracha. Note to self...do not order things that are no longer on the menu; it will be disappointing. Aside from the abysmal food, the waitress was not the best. She was busy, but busy had nothing to do with her service. Sadly, this was our last visit. We won't be back. Cannot justify the cost for dinner for 2 and eat less than mediocre food. I could have made better food at home, especially for that price. read more

Heading from Tucson to the Phoenix sky Harbor Airport we had some time and exited the freeway for gas and ended up in Z'Tejas's parking lot. We were hungry and decided to go in. It was the best thing that happened to us all day! The service was more than great it was wonderful! Unfortunately I don't have the name of our server to give him accolades on this post. The food was spectacular! My girlfriend had the Miso Glazed Salmon and I had the Green Chili Barbados Enchiladas. Both were spectacular! They also serve fresh baked cornbread that is very good! Was one of my favorite spots for happy hour. Chambord margaritas are still so good here. The Tejas trio on the other hand ..not so good. The white cheddar queso used to be so thick n creamy, so good with quality cheese. I used to love it! Whatever Ztejas has done to it has made this cheese dip taste like a pool of watered down, powdery chemicals. Definitely not the same, its really gross. Its watery, and can barely stay on the chip. I am truly disappointed. The drinks are also overpriced, waaaay over priced even at happy hour (yes, even the Chambord's are over priced). What a disappointment. This place was so good back in the day. We came last night and the food was average. The frozen margaritas tasted watered down. My friend ordered a medium cooked center cut filet that came out rare. She asked them to cook it more and instead of putting it back on the grill or giving her a new one, they microwaved it! The server told us they did!!! They said they couldn't put it back on the grill for health reasons. But y'all... we knew... that steak came back grey!! It was so nasty. Luckily they removed it from the bill.... but it doesn't matter, we won't be back. And in response to the manager - we were in late night, May 11th. It was our Mother's Day dinner. So one of our favorite little spots. Great service as usual. A little disappointed to see they now charge for cornbread. Used to be free. They allowed me to order my Diablo pasta even though it wasn't on the lunch/brunch menu which was awesome. I tried it with shrimp this time. Couldhave used a few more shrimp (had maybe 5) and more spice, but overall very good. My GF had the steak burrito. She gives it a solid C. Sauce a little salty and the burrito is drenched in sauce and cheese. Not a traditional burrito. The steak inside was flavorful and rice and black beans were good. There is always a long wait for the food to arrive and then it still comes out lukewarm. This location (maybe others, I'm not sure), but this location has a sign on the outside of the door that say Happy Hour Monday - Friday 3 pm - 7pm. Saturdays all day. We said SCORE, perfect! When we sat down to order, I immediately asked the server "Happy Hour all day". He said, Ummm I don't think so. I told him there's a sign on the outside that said Happy Hour all day. He walked outside, looked at the sign, came in and spoke with the manager. They have a roasted salsa that's delicious and the guacamole was very good. Great portion to share. The service was excellent from start to finish! The hostess was very friendly and went over specials and even recommended dishes when we sat down. The server answered all our questions and was very prompt on refills and checking in with us. Ate on a Monday evening, early and the restaurant was fairly empty. Watched SEVERAL extremely large roaches wandering the floor, also watched the manager (tallish slender gentleman in glasses) step on one that was crawling into the kitchen. When we noted it to our server she informed the manager who just slipped out the door without acknowledging the issue or saying anything to us about it. (Given how nonchalant he was in killing the roach he clearly does it often.) Good for five came half hour later when first three were finished. Had to ask for dirty plates to be removed twice and some were still on table when we paid and left. 20% gratuity added which was much more than service deserved. Very, very disappointing.
