I went here with family last month. I had suggested we all go to another local Mom and Pop place in Oceanside but that place didn't take reservations. The Westin did of course so we ended up going there. I ended up experiencing exactly what I expected to experience. Corporate! Fake smily faces on the hosts and "couldn't care less" attitude on the part of the servers, bus staff and partly responsible, the kitchen. Party of 9, everyone gets their food at the same time with the exception of an order of scrambled eggs for one of the kids and Just a blasé attitude from the wait staff. Most of the time you get better service from smaller restaurants because the staff most likely knows the owner so everyone is working together. I guess it's the managements responsibility, who know? We had brunch ( 8 of us) this morning, the place is comfortable well lit, we were seated sort of like in a private room, where we had the room by ourselves. Our server, Edoardo, was very nice, explained well the menu entrees. He's very much engaged, and he anticipated most of our needs are ( wish all waiters/ servers are like him). Foods are all fresh, the steak and eggs were very delicious, tender, melt in your mouth kind of beef, perfect, sweet fresh fruits, price not bad at all. We had breakfast at the restaurant on Sunday, March 9th while staying at the Westin. We have stayed at the Westin several times and always choose to have breakfast at the 20Twenty Gill. Summer was our server and she was so friendly and brought everything we could have needed without asking, jams for our toast, Tabasco and coffee refills when needed. For a nice dinner we celebrated a birthday and decided to eat here because it would be the most convenient based on our accommodations. Our party were quickly seated and we ordered a lot of different dishes. I have to say all the dishes were pretty darn delicious! My favorites were the Lobster risotto, ceviche, and Ribeye steak. The sides were not too bad but I was not a huge fan of the fish and salad. Still, food was good and I was very full by the end. The omelette was average, with partially brown avocado on top. The turkey sausage was disgusting; no flavor whatsoever and looked unappetizing. The potatoes were dry and also lacked flavor. Came here with a friend during Restaurant Week, wanting to try a new place in Carlsbad and hopefully gain a new favorite go-to place for dinner. Granted, restaurant week usually has a pre-fixed menu of courses and limited choices. The food was tasty, specially the ceviche. I ordered the braised short rib while my friend had the fish. After that we both each chose a different dessert to try both. They have a pretty extensive drink menu, lots of wines and cocktails! We each got 2, which were nice to sip on. One thing that kinda irked me was that it felt like service took forever to bring my food out, while my friend's food was on the table for at least 7-8 minutes before mine was. When our friends from AZ asked to meet up for dinner after their full day at Legoland, we tossed around a few options: Green Dragon, Karl Strauss, Draft Republic, Miguel's, etc. Green Dragon wasn't even open for some reason, and Karl Strauss & Miguel's all had people waiting outside. I searched OpenTable and found I could get a reservation at 20Twenty for 7:30pm, on a Saturday - which I thought was extraordinary. We been here several times in the past and I always considered it a "splurge" type of restaurant. Beautiful patio views with a dozen heat lamps, fire displays and massive plexi-glass shields keeping the wind out of our hair meant we were super comfortable considering it was 59°. Didn't notice the chilly air one bit. I hate wasting money...& sadly, it was wasted here. The drinks took 20 minutes to come out because the bar was "backed up" despite practically nobody else being in the restaurant. The food.....Halibut undercooked, the salmon had no seasoning, the chicken was dry, & the mashed potatoes were almost pure liquid and had a fishy taste to them. I could have gotten a better Caesar salad from one of the $5 kits they sell at the grocery store. The Brussel sprouts & drinks were mediocre at best. Came for Thanksgiving meal. Was informed it was a prefixed meal. Kids 3 and older were charged a premium price. However, the restaurant did not have a kids meal option. The appetizer was a soup (spicy) and salad for kid and adults. Soup was not good and definitely not a kid friendly appetizer. To pay a high price for a dinner, I would hope would have better options. Been here a couple of times and I will say that certain dishes I would not order again but 1 dish I will definitely. Located in Carlsbad at the Westin. The restaurant is a hidden gem and who would've thought a hotel restaurant would be good. I've had the Butchers choice which was RIB Eye, pan seared fresh fish of the day in which it was halibut and a pork cheek dish which I would never order again. It's nothing like pork jowl and the sauce made it blah. Now the pan seared Halibut is my favorite. Full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Service is also really good. I had a generally bad experience at this restaurant. We stayed in at the Westin and tried to each brunch the day we checked out. They had a sign at the front that said brunch was available until 2, however when we were seated, we were given lunch menus. They said breakfast wasn't available anymore. Since we were already there we decided to just stay and pick something on the menu. Food came out relatively quickly, except for one order. We waited but did not see the waitress for a little while. When we finally did, we were halfway done with the food that was given and told the waitress. We asked for the check and the waitress apologized. Nothing special about this restaurant. And my particular experience was poor. I would not visit here again. read more

We had a wonderful brunch during Memorial Day weekend for my birthday. Lili was friendly and helpful and the meal was delicious, especially the chicken sausages we ordered with our vegetable omelette. My son really enjoyed his lobster benedict as well. They paid close attention to my food allergy and everything was prepared perfectly. It was a nice touch to have the live singer while we sat outside on the beautiful terrace with a panoramic view. My wife and I love this restaurant. Their breakfast is the perfect way to start your day. The setting is perfect with plenty of seating both inside and outside, and with the mild climate we enjoyed both! Each day we were greeted by Liliia, the hostess, and taken to the table of our choice. Liliia always made us feel perfectly at home, and gave us great advice on things to do and see in the area. It was always a pleasure talking with her. She personifies hospitality, and is a rare find in the hotel industry these days. The food was superb. The menu has many incredible selections and we definitely didn't have enough time to try everything. The Lox was especially tasty with generous portions of smoked salmon. We were staying at the Westin for the weekend and were given breakfast vouchers so figured we would pop down to 20|Twenty for breakfast. Lily (Lilia?), the hostess, asked us if we had a reservation and when I answered no (I've never had to make a reservation to have breakfast at a hotel I'm staying at) she told us there would be a 10 minute wait. The restaurant was more than half empty and the party before us had been immediately seated so this seemed weird but we agreed to wait. She then picked up menus and told us that she could seat us but we would have to exit the hotel and enter the patio from the outside because I had my dog with me. Again, we agreed and exited the hotel and went around to meet her at the patio. She sat us at a far table with dirty seats (my chair had a dead worm on it) and never once smiled or said anything pleasant. Acted like we were a bother the entire time. Our server was pleasant but then it took over 40 minutes to get our food and everything came out cold. When my mom told the server our food came out cold, she gave us a flippant "sorry about that". Final straw, as we were waiting for our bill (another long wait), the same hostess walks another family, also with a dog, through the restaurant to the patio and seats them with a smile. Somehow completely different rules for them. Take a wild guess on the skin color of that family vs my family... One of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in my life and put a damper on our weekend getaway for sure. Advice to Lily, if you don't know how to treat people, get a different job! read more

I'm going to be honest with you I was really disappointed in this place. I had high hopes because of the location and great reviews but I will not be returning. I came here with a group of 7 last weekend for a friends birthday party and the dinner started off okay... the outdoor space is beautiful and the heat lamps worked great so even though it was cold outside everyone was comfortable. I forgot our waitresses name but she provided us with great service and very well attentive. So what was the issue? Well the drinks at the bar came out extremely slow. So slow in fact that everyone at the table was ordering 2 cocktails at a time because if we ordered one we would be waiting 15-20 minutes for our next drink. No exaggeration. We timed it. Then instead of cocktails we started ordering beer and wine because we figured the turn around time might be a bit quicker since it's only one pour instead of multiple ingredients. We were wrong lol it was the same wait time regardless. I was excited to see all the food come out because it was beautifully plated... but that's the only compliment I can give. The ribeye was was cooked okay.. in my opinion it was a bit chewy for a medium rare steak at that price point. We ordered the chimichurri sauce and one other sauce to go with it we also ordered a side of mushrooms. The mushrooms were just not good. Everything was incredibly salty. I mean to the point where I was starving and took one bite out of the steak and gave it to my friend because it was inedible and I didn't have the heart to send it back. The lobster risotto was incredibly salty as well. I took one bite, also inedible. My friend ordered the salmon and was only able to take a couple bites because it was also too salty. The burrata salad was good.... But come on how hard is it to mess up burrata? The entire dinner took over 2 hours and we ended up being late to our bottle service table at shelter because of how long everything was taking to come out. 2 stars because our waitress acknowledged and apologized for the wait. We still tipped her well because ultimately she can only do so much with a slow bar and she's not the one seasoning the food. She was a great waitress. And did a really nice job of checking in and accommodating us considering the circumstances. Oh and did I mention the restaurant was basically empty? I saw a couple patrons at the bar and maybe 3 other tables. It would be different if it was a full house then I could be a little more sympathetic to the bar and the kitchen for lapse in service. But this was simply unacceptable. Lastly we were so late to our bottle service reservation that they gave away the table we had booked because they thought we were a no-show. So this experience literally ruined my friends entire birthday. None of us will be returning. read more

A romantic hidden gem. We can in on Halloween without a reservation and we were sat right away. There were only a few other people dining in the restaurant. I had my dog with me so we sat outside on their heated patio. The patio was covered and had a fire pit and faced the ocean. We had an amazing view of the sunset. I got the lavender fizz cocktail, I asked our waiter if he could make it less sweet and they did. My friend got the sour. I ordered the aguachile and humus for my meal. The aguachile was supposed to come with plantain chips which was part of the main reason why I got it but it came with normal chips. I asked the waiter why I got normal chips and he said it was the first time they had ever run out of plantain chips(doubt it). It was good either way. The humus came with tons of veggies and pitas. My friend got the filet mignon and they said it was great. Overall, we enjoyed our experience here and would like to come back for Sunday brunch! read more

Food was average at best and not worth the price point. We were told that the kitchen is backed up, so the food took a while, but it was not worth the wait. Appetizers: Octopus was way too rubbery, seemed rushed. Ceviche was presented well but not flavorful and fish smelled well fishy. Mains: salmon was dry and chimichurri sauce was completely dehydrated, risotto it came with had zero bite to the rice, it looked as it was sitting in the warmer for hours and hours. My wife's squid ink pasta was served in the flavorless broth and was too undercooked and starchy, while the seafood in the broth was overcooked. We don't really send anything back, but we hinted to the waitress that the pasta was not good - we didn't eat more than two bites, but we were ignored and her plate was simply picked up from the table. Stopped by for quick lunch during what seemed to be a slow time, seeing as we were the only table in the restaurant. The server was very friendly and we ordered right away. She came back shortly to let us know that they were out of the crab cakes and the beer we ordered. A bit after that she came back to let us know they had crab cakes again. All the food came out together including a med rare burger, which came out past well done. The crab cakes were the highlight of the meal as the scallops seemed a bit off and were a little too warm for my liking seeing as they were served crudo. We weren't able to have the burger corrected in time as the server didn't come back for a good while to check on us. When she did and I told her about the burger she simply said she would let the chef know for next time. I was a bit flabbergasted by that response but it might be because the kitchen was closed by that point. When she dropped off the check I noticed the burger was still on there and I waited for her to see why as I didn't really eat it and it wasn't cooked to temp. I went looking for the server and when I couldn't find her I gave the check to the bartender to close out with him. Just not an overall good experience. read more

My wife and I have been visiting California this week and yesterday we stayed at this hotel and had breakfast at this restaurant. The food was delicious. We had the waffles and the lobster Benedict. The fruit was also good, very fresh. And to top it off the service was excellent. Our waitress Julie was very attentive and lovely. Great food recommendations. She did a great job. First time here and so impressed! First, the food checked all the boxes for me. Creative sauces and preparations & fresh ingredients!! Ordered many appetizers and sides and loved them all. Salmon crudo, roasted cauliflower, squash, and more. Each combined with a sauce or seasoning that made it standout. The main dishes looked great too. Food is great. Views are great. Outdoor seating is lovely. The lack of stars is because of service. I have never received good service here, which is a shame. I often stay at the resorts over here when I'm in Carlsbad, but it's hard to come here because of the service. I hope this changes, I do really enjoy the food selections. read more
