Have been coming to 3 Decker for YEARS, Loyal customer, always leave a good tip. Guess what. I am NEVER coming back here. The only good thing about this place is that it's the cheapest diner in the neighborhood. That's it. The service sucks big time. All the waitresses know me and the people I come in with, and they're just rude and seem like they hate their jobs. Request for "light pancakes" always gets me burnt ones. No one ever refills your coffee cup until you request it. Attitude from the wait staff and bland food have finally made me search for a better family breakfast place. Sorry, 3 Decker. Came here for lunch on a weekday and it was pretty good! The food was typical diner fare and the menu is huge, with everything from eggs and other breakfast foods to soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, etc. I got a turkey Ruben and it was large and good - exactly what I'd expect from a diner. My only complaints about this restaurant are related to the service and ambience. We waited for a while to have our order taken despite the fact that hardly anyone else was in the restaurant. Our waitress was not particularly friendly or nice. That being said, the menu is extensive and the prices are good for NYC so there's that. read more

I stopped in for breakfast and while i was eating I found a piece of steel wool in my potato's , so I decided to call the nearest waitress (Amanda) over to show her. As she is walking over while she is behind me she yells to me "TALK" very rudely I explained she walks away and tell the waiter to come. He looks at it and says sorry. I'm not a person to look for a free meal but I didn't eat the potatoes after that and if I swallowed that I could of cut up my intestines. Anyway I proceed to pay for my meal and the waitress (Amanda) is being obnoxiously rude to a elderly person at the register repeating what he is saying to her being condescending. One of the last of the vintage New York Diners. A good old neighborhood "Greasy Spoon" where you can still get a bang for your buck. Fast Delivery and generous portions are what they are about. The service is quick and the servers have all been there for literally 20 years so kind of a cheers atmosphere with a nice banter. The owner seems a little grouchy but he is a hard working man. Great for breakfast, omelettes, burgers, grilled cheese, sandwiches the brisket is delish as is the Greek sald. You will definitely need a doggie bag. Stick to the typical diner fare here....leave the fancy entrees for another day although you do get a value with the dinner specials. my only criticism is the mashed potatoes are instant which is disappointing. read more

If you're looking for a big diner meal at great price, 3 Decker is the place to go. Bear in mind this is a standard NYC diner - no frills here, just solid food, great portions and extremely reasonable - there's a reason it's been around for over 40 years. I live in the neighborhood and go 1-3x per week for the breakfast specials (before 11am on weekdays). Where else can you get eggs, toast, grits (subbed for the potatoes) coffee and juice for $5 (including tip and tax!!). Talk about a great deal. read more

Honestly wasn't bad at all but we definitely won't be back in-person. Communication was a bit awkward and when we'd ask questions (can we sit there? etc) basically got no response other than a shrug. Service was ok but kind of rude. When we were ordering it seemed like she was busy and kept trying to cut it short, even though the restaurant was pretty dead. We got our food after waiting ~ 15-20 minutes which is not super fast for a diner but obviously not a big deal. I got ordered a tuna melt deluxe and my boyfriend got a BLT with a side of fries, and we both asked for seltzers. It didn't come for the entire time of waiting for our food which wasn't a big deal since they asked at the same time so we thought it might come at the same time. Once we got our food we didn't get the side of fries or the drinks, but since her brevity before we didn't say anything at first. After a few minutes we alerted another employee and we got it, after she first brought it to the wrong table (which she did apologize about). The cup had red lipstick left on it. We had to flag them down to switch that, and get the fries brought to us, because we weren't getting paid attention to and kept getting cut off when we asked something. She told us swiftly the BLT doesn't come with fries and he had to bite his tongue from saying "yes, I know, I ordered a side of it". We kept quiet and almost cancelled the fries as he had already finished but since they were almost done we still took them. The tuna was really flavorful with a huge serving and the fries, though mine were a bit oily and overdone, were super crispy and delicious. The coleslaw was decent and they had quite a solid pickle. My boyfriend said his BLT was one of the best he's ever had. When we paid she said not a word except "$25" (CHEAP!) and slammed the credit card receipt on the table before walking away. I said thanks, but we were ignored. It was an awkward and pretty rude experience with a few bumps in the road of hospitality but nonetheless we both left full, satisfied, and happy. Living on the upper east side, I've tried lots of diners, and yes, most of them are ok. 3 Decker is fantastic -- not only are the prices really good, the food is always delicious and staff is always nice and friendly. We live in the neighborhood and had been wanting to try this place for some time. It looks very homey from the outside and the prices are really good. We went there today for lunch. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the fries, and the bacon on my burger were both pretty good. The burger itself was a pretty typical diner burger, overcooked (of course) and not good enough to be worth the low price. My wife didn't fare as well. She ordered the veggie burger and when it came, it tasted like it had gone bad. I'm not sure how a veggie burger can spoil but this one apparently did. When we called the waitress over, she gave us an annoyed look and asked, "So, what do you want me to do?" My wife told her she didn't care what she did with it but we weren't going to pay for it. She called the manager over, who was nicer. My wife ordered a side of broccoli to replace the burger, and ended up leaving that on her plate too. She said it tasted like shoes. When I paid my check the (same) waitress brought my card and receipt back and then hovered by the table waiting for me to fill it out. I used to work in the business and I'm usually a very understanding customer and a good tipper, but we left nothing. I'm also not sure how they got upgraded to an A health rating because the floor was filthy. We won't be back. The prices aren't worth the bad food, lousy service and dirt. read more

A trusty standby, you can always count on good food at a good value at 3 Decker. No frills on the menu, but they do have an extensive selection of omelets with wholesome simple ingredients. They give you a mini-cup of o.j. when you first arrive before you even order. The service is top notch, always pleasant, and only once had a problem with my order (which was rectified immediately). We used to be regulars till I got tired of eating the veggie burger every single time (not too many options for vegetarians, you see!). The service is always very good - the waitresses are super friendly without getting in your hair. We've never had to wait too long to be served, neither are we rushed to leave even when it's close to closing time. One extra star just for the service! I go here with my girlfriend all the time. We almost always order the same thing every time (some variation of eggs with home fries or grits with dry whole wheat toast) They are super friendly there. The food comes out SO fast. They always refill the coffee. The bill is always low and we always leave satisfied. It is typical diner food but they still get 5 stars because they have good service and if they ever make a mistake they fix it quickly. You don't feel like you're in Manhattan when you're in there. It's a great place to become a regular on Saturday and Sunday mornings when you want to take a break from spending double the amount at Starbucks on weekdays before work. read more

While on our holiday travels, we returned to the place we had eaten at many times in our old neighborhood. We hadn't been there since moving a year ago and were greeted with "I haven't seen you in a long time!" We've always liked this place because it's cheap, has a huge menu and does take-out. There were three of us and for coffee, tea, a breakfast platter, a small Greek salad (the size of most large salads) and a breakfast sandwich, our bill came to $15. It's hard to beat that in NY. The food comes out hot, the staff is great and the place is clean. We will definitely be back on our next visit. read more

Ouch. This food is pretty bad. Mashed potatoes taste like prison food ( haven't been incarcerated but one can imagine) and hot open turkey and grilled chicken were terrible. The only reason I gave it 2 stars and not 1 is because the prices are inexpensive, so if you have no taste buds and are money conscious this is the place for you. Came in for brunch on sunday with my cousin and girlfriend and place was packed! I decided to give a try. It wast anything spectacular but still good enough. Service was okay. I had an omelette with mushrooms, onions and ham. Mushrooms didn't seem to be fresh. On the side i got a blackberry pancakes and they were delicious! My girlfriend got banana pancakes and she liked it and my cousin got strawberry pancakes and she was satisfied too! Would recommend this place for pancakes definitely! For your neighborhood diner, this place is the best of the best! Oh and the best part is, I live across the street! The waiters are always friendly... the type of place where they remember your name and what you like! The burgers are awesome and the dinners usually come with salad or soup. The have 2 different homemade soups every day and on Wednesday the Cream of Turkey soup is out of this world. So overall, I love this place and eat her at least 3 times a week.
