They accept cards unless it's $5 but they do not take discovery cards. Super fresh and not overly sweet, which I was surprised by. I never knew there was another food hall in the area and there were a lot of good food stalls. Even good coconut was there too. Next time I need to check out the other stalls

Easy to miss it if you don't know the store name since Golden Sponge doesn't indicate they're selling mochi unless you're actually there yourself or you see a picture from someone's review. Besides the giant mochi, they also sell very affordable sponge cakes ranging from $1 to $1.50. The giant mochi is getting viral for being the size of a huge blob and the different fillings you can have being stuffed inside (wrapped with the mochi) depending on various prices. My friends and I got the giant mochi with four fillings. Total turns out to be $14. We have chosen mango pomelo + cookie & cream + strawberry + lychee rose. We're amazed by the vibrant colors side by side next to each other. It is a very cool process to watch the staff make it in person. Would be best to eat the mochi freshly made. Don't try to eat it by yourself though because it's way too fulfilling imo. Best to split the whole thing between 3-5 people. The ratio of cream cheese to the fruit pieces is mainly 8:2 which I didn't expect it. To be honest, I am expecting more fruit and not only few pieces as garnish. Realistically, you're eating 80% cream cheese and 20% of the thin mochi consistency. If you're lactose intolerant, it might not stomach too well in your digestive system. The staff has mixed in everything together. However, I can't tell what I am exactly eating or if I can actually differentiate between the 4 filling flavors. Its presentation of the pastel cotton candy colors is top notch nonetheless. Picture worthy for IG/TikTok, although taste wise falls short from here for me. Overall, there's way too much cream cheese inside. Also, the mochi texture gets lost within the rich filling. The first two bites are fine. But as you keep digging in, you get the feeling of being overwhelmed by a sugar overload. Therefore, you will feel very full after just a few bites. Another thing is that, they should've provided chopsticks or forks rather than plastic spoons. Not gonna lie, but it's pretty hard to actually scoop the mochi up. Like I'm saying, I don't recommend this dessert for those who can't tolerate anything dairy. The giant mochi is officially a "once-and-done" dessert for me. Might be great for filming a viral video, but save that money for something else more worthwhile instead.

They are also only open on weekends Friday-Sunday so make sure to time your visit accordingly. I had enquired about their Ube Mochi Kuih via Instagram before they released their menu for the week of my NYC visit, and she informed me that they did not have any plans for the Ube Mochi that week. Despite being a busy business owner, she was quick to respond which I thanked her for and told her that I will keep an eye out on her Instagram for the Ube mochi so I can plan another trip from Philly to NYC. To my pleasant surprise, the next day she messaged me again informing that they were keeping the Ube mochi on the menu that week! I was ecstatic because not only did she put it on the menu but also made sure to let me know about it! As promised, we got there around 1 PM that Friday and there were already a few people in the shop. We got the Pandan Mochi Waffle with Black Sesame Kaya, Pandan Kaya Toast Ice cream and the Kuih Set which had the Talam Pandan, Sago-Ubi Kayu and the Ube mochi! We got the outside tables under the big umbrella, and fortunately for us, the weather wasn't bad at all despite it being the middle of summer. I am not even kidding when I say everything we had was absolutely phenomenal! The Pandan Mochi Waffle was freshly prepared, warm, with the perfect chew and stretch while the Black sesame Kaya added just the perfect amount of nuttiness to the waffle. The Pandan Kaya Toast ice cream was bursting with Pandan flavor and came with a nice little Kaya toast on it. This was the best Pandan flavored ice cream I have ever had, period. The Kuih set alone was worth traveling from Philly - each of the kuihs in the Kuih set was amazing, mildly sweetened and incredibly delicious! I am extremely grateful to her for keeping the Ube mochi on the menu when I visited. She is such a kind soul, and I wish her the best and her business a lot of the success! I will make sure to visit them whenever I am in NYC, and I request anyone reading this review to please visit her if you haven't already! Their menu is perfect to sit down or take out. I ordered the traditional, with brown sugar and crushed peanuts. The martabak was delicious! The mochi-like pancake was bouncy, the filling both salty and sweet like peanut butter. Although, because of the filling, the overall bite was a bit try. I think a sauce, like caramel or condensed milk, would add some moisture to it. I certainly want to return here, perhaps to try other desserts, like the pandan pancake with butter and caramel. That sounds divine.
