I've been here many times through my life. First time I'm leaving a review. I noticed the place is a lot smaller then it used to be but still had that same homey feeling. I sat down and was greeted and asked what I wanted to drink told her and she brought it right away. She then asked if I was ready to order and I said I needed a few. So after I long over menu I ordered the food came out and I are it. It was ok omelette could have been made better but not bad. The price was more then I would have paid off I ordered how I wanted. Just ordered food there, tri tip , eggs and hash browns, also there was a gentlemen already their, said he had been there an hour not happy, sent food back cause it was cold, my food came out, hash browns not cooked, food not that hot, called waiter to cook hashbrowns more, took an hour, brought food back, plate was hot, top of hashbrowns was dark, tri tip cold as hell, should of raised hell, instead just ask for a to go plate, dumped it in there, took home and gonna throw away, thumbs double down, do not do it. read more

Open during remodel, please keep our waitress, they are going to a cafateria style service, where you go to a service counter get your food. Your food is good but the wait staff is better. The Silver Skillet. What can one say about a 24 hour diner that has a menu with extensive variety? I frequent this establishment with my daughters, we have been enjoying their food for about 8 years, ever since we moved to Sacramento. I love that they always make me poutine (fries with cheese and brown gravy) and don't even look at me sideways when I order it! It is not exactly traditional but it definitely hits the spot! I usually get the Country Fried Steak and I alternate between the breakfast version and the dinner version, both are delicious! My youngest always (why stray from what you love?) orders the Breakfast Burrito! It always fills her up which is saying something! She is a big eater! My oldest varies with her menu choices but always leaves happy, full and with a to-go container!! Now for a secret (or not so secret) I have on several occassions ordered their BBQ. Omg the tri-tip... No wait the ribs, no wait the bbq sauce!!! I would seriously buy bottles of the bbq sauce... I think I would put it on chocolate cake, it is that good!!! I digress... The BBQ is divine!!! Smokey, saucy, juicy and tender (no I am not describing myself ;) just the way it should be!! I could literally lick the plate clean, I don't order this very often because we usually hit the truckstop when I am low on funds but don't feel like cooking, the BBQ dinner runs about 16.95-24.95. Not a bad price but not ideal when you are on a budget!! The service is always great, I have only once had a bad waitress, but I think she was new, sooooo I will give her a pass. All in all you shouldn't judge this place based on the fact that it is a truck stop diner! They have way better food than Denny's or Ihops!!! read more

4-5 STAR SERVICE. Now that I've gotten that out of the way...the food is mediocre at best. I've been twice in a month, both times by default because Black Bear Diner, across the street was closed. I used to frequent truck stop diners after the club (yes, back in the day) if I wanted something other than Denny's at 2am. I've never been disappointed in the food. But now that I think about, I was probably a bit inebriated, and anything tasted good at 2am. Now with a grown-up and sober palette, I can say that eating at a truck stop (or at least the Silver Skillet), is most definitely out of pure convenience. "Chris" has been our server both times and been the only server for the whole floor. She is awesome! She has a great attitude, she is always very friendly and accommodating. Our group wanted to sit in the section that was closed and she said no problem and got it ready in no time. I've had the cheeseburger which was pretty bland and the "justice scramble" which had some breakfast meats and veggies. Both dishes I was expecting a bigger portion. It's a little pricey for what you get. $9-10 for mediocre food is not ok in my book. It took a long time (almost an hour) for our food to come out too. I doubt I'll be returning. read more

Great place to go if you like a lot of options very late at night and hungry as hell. We went for new years and their menu is huge. The waitress was really nice even though she was working there during new years eve. I ordered the 49ner omelette with potatoes and pancakes and the fish and chips with toast. So we usually try to go to Black Bear but when they have a 45min wait this is where we end up. It's a 24hr truck stop so the restaurant is combined with a store that literally has everything you can think of. This place is definitely a hidden gem! My friend told me about this place and brought me here for breakfast and boy am I glad he did!! We came pretty early so we sat ourselves. Our waitress Tammy greeted us almost immediately and was very friendly! I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. It came with eggs and hashbrowns. I opted for toast, as pancakes was an option and my eyes weren't that that hungry! Our food came quickly too. And please do come hungry because the portions are big! Good place to go after a late night out. Check in with Yelp and get 15% off. First I'll say, Chris the waitress was awesome. I could tell she was working her rear end off but all the while kept a great attitude and smile. I gave her a good tip, I highly recommend you do the same, she's a hard worker and deserves it. I appreciated her making me some fresh hot decaffeinated coffee. Okay the coffee wasn't that great, it was hot and it wasn't awful, but it was a little tasteless. However, that won't keep me from going back again when I'm cold and want something warm to drink at 2 in the morning. Cause it tasted way better than the Natomas Denny's coffee. Jeremy and I ordered a vegetarian omelet that came with country potatoes and two pancakes on the side. This order could come with hash browns or a biscuit, so it's nice you can mix and get what you want. It was only $8.99, great price. First, the potatoes were awesome, fried with onion and bell peppers, they tasted great and had lots of flavor. The pancakes were awesome, loved them. Came with a giant slab of fluffy butter and two syrups. I ate half and got my fill. Unfortunately, I cannot report the same about the omelet we got. Although it was filled with some vegetables, it had only one flavor, grease. What did they do, cook it in old oil, seriously I couldn't eat it. Jeremy ate it after he poured syrup from the pancakes on it. It was not good. I suggest cooking the omelet with some butter rather than grease and add a little seasoning to it. I did notice in previous reviews that the owner reads comments. I'll tell you, please add some staff for that time of the morning. The place was hopping, plenty of people were there to eat or have coffee. Chris was the only person on her feet working. In the area where we could sit, we found only one table that didn't have dishes on it. The table we picked had two glasses of water and needed to be wiped off. Which Chris did, she even dried it for me. But seriously, if you don't have enough staff on hand to keep your tables clean then you're doing something wrong. This is my first time at a restaurant for truck drivers. It's what you'd expect from an old style diner: Decent food, decent prices, nothing impressive. My lasagna/spaghetti combo was ok. Not oily as expected. Spaghetti was rather plain with just a bit of canned tasting marinara sauce. The lasagna was better and it was mainly what I ate, it had a good amount of ground beef and not too much cheese. My colleagues had a BLT sandwich and half a rack of ribs. They too seemed to enjoy their food. Portions are definitely big and a good bang for your buck! read more

The Silver Skillet is in the iconic 49er Travel Plaza/Truck Stop. I am a truck driver and have been here for about a week doing some local loads. I have had every meal here and have not been disappointed at all. From the homemade chicken pot pie to the BBQ that is smoked out back, this place is absolutely amazing. It's a 24 hour diner at the 49er Truck Stop, obviously since you probably saw the map as you looked through this business. I love the service; however, it could be hit or miss. Since I've gone here, I've enjoyed the service. The food is so good. I'm a sucker for Chicken Fried Steak, so that's my go to! Now that I'm pescatarian, I'm usually going for fish and chips. First time at this place, my wife and I were disgusted.We asked for a refund and left. Our meal came out 2 min. After ordering. Everything was cold! Even the 7 dollar bacon side!
