WOW! I've been meaning to go here for a bit since it's just around the corner but always ended up going to other restaurants. We came here for our 3 year anniversary and were blown away by the way they took care of us; in specific, our server was Brad. I put a note on our reservation that it was our anniversary, and they put roses on our table and brought us out an anniversary card. They asked if we wanted to be seated inside which was a bit darker or by the windows where there was much more lighting, we opted in for the windows. Though the seating was much more casual, I appreciated being able to enjoy the lighting and seeing our surroundings. The meatballs were to DIE FOR, see video and pic. Perfectly juicy and the putting it on the cheese bread changed my life. Also got the wedge salad which my girlfriend loved; I'm not the biggest fan of bleu cheese but if you are you will love it. The 8 oz filet almost seemed bigger than 8 oz, what a surprise! It was cooked to perfection at the medium rare. The mashed potatoes we ordered with it were just OK, perhaps more seasoning or dairy, it wasn't the best consistency but we added the butter and salt to it which made it much better. Mac and cheese was yummy but nothing to die for. They also brought out a FREE crème brulee for our anniversary, so sweet! All in all, I was STUFFED and our dinner was pretty amazing to celebrate our anniversary. Definitely chose the right spot. Would 100% recommend for anyone looking for a special spot to celebrate!

Wow amazing service, food cooked properly wine was nice and chilled. Did I mention the service it was amazing they were not intrusive, but on deck when you needed them. The ambiance could have been romanitc or casual and my food was great as well as the other two in my party. 5 star for real!!

1st time here... this place ranks up there with your high end steak houses, and we would definitely be back. From the host to the our waiter Julian. They all were extremely nice, informative and helpful. I had requested to sit outside, which they placed my wife and I. But because of the palm trees outside, they drop little leaves on to the table, I asked our host if he can move us back inside. It was a busy night, but he looked into and found us a table in like 1-2 mins. Then we met Julian our waiter, who was extremely knowledgeable and informative. He offered me a recommendation on how to have my steak cooked, I listened and he didn't disappoint. My wife and I started off with an appetizer, we ordered the meatballs, the flavor, the sauce the taste of the meatballs were delicious! I ordered a 20 oz 45 day rib eye with some asparagus. Cooked to perfection! My wife ordered the Seabass, which she says was amazing! We parked valet, which only charges $10. We would definitely be back next time we're in town.

We made a reservation at 555 East American Steakhouse for a Thursday night to celebrate our anniversary, and overall, it turned out to be an amazing experience. Parking options include valet or metered street parking. We opted for valet, which was $10 and very convenient. The restaurant offers outdoor seating, and upon arrival, you check in inside. I do wish there were clearer signs because we were a bit lost trying to find the host at first. Inside, the ambiance immediately stood out. There was a pianist playing, which really elevated the entire dining experience and set the tone for a romantic evening. The restaurant was also full for a Thursday night, which says a lot about how popular and well-regarded it is. For food, we ordered the penne carbonara, vine-ripened tomato and burrata, and a 16oz ribeye cooked medium. Everything was delicious. The ribeye actually came out closer to medium rare. I personally prefer it that way, so I did not mind at all. My wife had ordered it medium, but she was also okay with medium rare, so it worked out for us. We paired our meal with red wine, which complemented everything nicely. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate soufflé, which takes about 16 minutes to prepare, and it was absolutely worth the wait. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, they also gave us a complimentary crème brûlée, which was a thoughtful touch. The pianist continued playing throughout the night with short breaks in between, and it really helped maintain the atmosphere from start to finish. Overall, the experience was amazing. Great food, great service, and a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. We will definitely be back for future milestones.

Food: A. The baked potatoes here look amazingly HUGE! We didn't choose that with our farm raised salmon as rice seemed to be a better accompaniment however the people dining beside us French onion soup, cheesecake and steak dinners looked heavenly. The bread they bring with the meal is really good too! Service: A. Exceptional at the bar with great convo. This is fine-dining service. Ambiance: A+. The classy swanky steak house old school vibe I search for, this is. Live music, fabulous people watching and talking align the bar. Dietitian Dorothy's Tip- pass on the farm-raised salmon but if u just have salmon make sure u order it not well because ours was a bit overcooked. You could go for the sea bass here and be much happier healthier. Choose another place if you're in n the mood for omega-3 rich salmon.

What more can you ask for...a dining experience like no other. We started with shrimp cocktail. It was good nothing exceptional considering the location. The bread was served warmed and delicious. Soft and slightly moist. A treat. The steaks...drum roll. Cowboys in Texas would be in awe. I ordered the bone in prime rib...medium. Prepared and cooked to pure perfection. Tender and flavorful. California knows seafood...we know steaks in Texas and Put this right near the top. The Wagu was super tender. You could cut it with a butter knife. The baked potatoes are huge....HUGE. I saw them at another table and knew we could split just one. The spinach wasn't bad. I'm picky and believe greens in general need seasonings. Service. 5 stars, white glove experience. Everyone was friendly and super attentive. We set outside with a cool breeze coming in from the ocean and loved it. Bravo to the Chef and entire team.

If you are looking for great steak this is the place! I have been to other steak houses that are super hyped and considered "fancy" and no this place has best steak options I have had so far. Came here for lunch with the wife and had the NY steak medium cooked. This was so juicy and tender could melt in your mouth! Service is always great here, welcoming and catering during lunch I have not been here for dinner so can't speak for that time frame. This place has a vintage classy look and feel, attire is casual even tho the place looks more dressy. Pricing is not moderate it's around what you expect for quality expect to spend more then a Benjamin or two.

This is a cool place. I love the vibe. It's old timey and classy, without being pretentious. I sat at the bar for a cocktail before being seated. I was happy to get a seat. The bar gets packed! We opted to sit outside or wait for awhile, as there was a conference in town. I was bummed to not be inside, but it ended up being great. Our server was really attentive. They had heaters and made it really nice. We got a taste of everything. The meatballs- super solid. The server told me they are made from the trim of all the steaks. So they can have wagyu and other really amazing meat in them. The sauce is tangy with a bit of spice. Really good! The French onion soup- exactly as you would expect, flavorful and delicious. No notes. The shrimp cocktail was interesting. They serve on a bed of lettuce, and the sauce gets a little lost on the lettuce. But if you have some lettuce with your shrimp, that's the move. The wedge salad- big hunks of bacon. Lots of blue cheese. We got in chopped in the back. We both got filet. Charred medium rare. They came out perfect. The steaks come with a potato side. I upgraded to asparagus for a charge. I really like this place. The servers are all super helpful and friendly. The ambience is fun and festive. Parking is pretty easy. Valet or lots of street parking. I am a fan! We will be back!

The food here is delicious! You can tell the carbonara sauce is made fresh and the portions are fair! My gf and shared 1 order and they were kind enough to split that in half for us! The service is amazing! The waiters are attentive and fill up the waters when they're empty. It's modern and rustic inside, and it feels a bit crammed. We had a reservation for a birthday dinner and they accommodated very well. There's only street parking available!

There were 3 of us and we sat at the bar. Bartender was on top of it although she didn't check on us after the food arrived for a good 10-15 minutes. I had the grass fed ribeye. I asked for it slightly rarer than medium rare. There were parts of the steak that was rare and the entire steak was lukewarm. I was waiting for the bartender to check in on us but by then my steak would have been cold. The steak was just okay. It wasn't awful but I've definitely had much better steaks and for far less money. If you haven't been here before, they are quite busy. We were here at 7:00 on. A Tuesday night and the place was packed. I was told that it's always busy. Reservations are recommended unless you sit at the bar (like we did). If you look at the menu, you will notice that this isn't a cheap place to eat. The bill for 3 of us was $250 and one of the diners in our party just ordered tomatoes and burrata ($18). No wine, just a few cocktails. I personally won't eat here again. $66 for a semi tough steak with not a lot of flavor isn't a great experience.

An outstanding anniversary dinner! Superior service, exquisite cuisine, reasonably priced for a luxury restaurant! We will definitely be back. Beautiful atmosphere with intimate rooms for special occasion dining. We ordered the goat cheese with roasted garlic as an appetizer which came with crostini and tomato relish, crab bisque as our second course. Our main course was a 21 ounce, 60 day aged ribeye steak to share, cooked black and blue and topped with mushrooms and onions, served with a bordelaise sauce. Sides were sautéed garlic spinach, and garlic Parmesan mashed potatoes. Dessert (not picture) was a complimentary dessert of crème brûlée.

Definitely worth it! The vibes are unmatched. It's a unique blend of "top notch cocktail crafting" and "beer and a hot pretzel after work." You can dress up, you can dress down, it's very 'just be yourself' which I love. I've literally had caviar AND hot dogs there in the same night at an event. They know how to blend high/low. Incredible knowledge and ingredients but not snooty patootie. Super inclusive and fun, with cool popups and events happening all the time. It's a full bar so you can get any cocktail you would normally order if you're keeping it simple, or beer, wine, boilermakers, etc. There's a span of offerings and price points, so something for everyone. (Also really good N/A cocktails!) The menu is super inventive and creative! And the cocktail menu changes out every so often so there are new things to try. This area is vintage vibes and Baby Gee speaks it fluently. Really cool decor, curated by the owners who design everything from the playlist to the cocktails to the invention of never-before-seen flavors and shapes of jello shots. Try the Baby Gee appletini while you're there. Mezcal, tequila, sake appletini you ask?? Yes. Trust. And get a hot dog. Do it.

It's clear the owners put a lot of thought and creativity into making their cocktails the centerpiece of the experience. That said, the execution didn't live up to the concept. The menu appears to rotate regularly, and while the drinks were certainly unique, most of the cocktails we tried were hit or miss. At roughly $22 per drink, I expected more balance and refinement. One cocktail started with flavors reminiscent of an Old Fashioned, but after the initial sip, the combination of bitters and fruit syrups created an unpleasant cough syrup like finish. We tried a mocktail as well, and it was mostly ice and soda water, with what seemed like a collection of syrups doing most of the heavy lifting. The drinks were creative, but many of the flavor profiles felt disjointed rather than intentional. The biggest issue, however, was the bar service and sanitation practices. I watched a bartender place a cucumber garnish into a glass using his bare hands, touching the entire garnish in the process. He then continued to take credit cards, cash, and other items before stuffing ice into additional drinks with his bare hands. Whether or not this technically violates health code standards, it certainly wasn't appetizing to watch and left a poor impression. Parking is another challenge. There is no dedicated parking, and unless you get lucky, expect to park several blocks away and walk. Overall, the atmosphere is a lot of fun and the cocktail menu is ambitious, but the drinks didn't justify the price point, and the sanitation concerns were hard to overlook. I wouldn't rush back, especially given the cost and parking difficulties.

This hidden gem lives inside the newly renovated Fairmont Breakers in Long Beach, and for all my Fairmont regulars: relax, you're in good hands, their world-renowned elegance remains intact. PARKING Valet is only $10, which in Southern California basically qualifies as a love language. (Note to Fairmont Breakers Management: Listen up, my friends! Please keep it that way, gas is $5.97/gallon and my wallet is already in therapy.) I handed the valet a $5 tip before I even stepped out of my car, just so I could glide into the lobby feeling like a full‑blown princess making her grand entrance. Before you leave, you simply pay the valet in cash or card and they'll have your car right there before you can even blink. AMBIANCE Walk in and boom! A towering, beautifully decorated Christmas tree greets you like it's auditioning for a holiday movie. Check out my photos; the whole lobby whispers one word: sophisticated. Oooh, I love that tree! Hang a right, stroll to the end of the hall, and you'll find ALTER EGO, a dark, cozy lounge that feels like the perfect hideaway for a date where you actually want to hear each other talk. Live music starts at 7 PM, the bar closes at 10, and honestly... that's ideal for those of us over 50 who consider 10 PM the witching hour for pajamas. Rob Fontana was performing tonight, and his music was so good I found myself time‑traveling back to the good old days. Every song hit, Rob. Good job! SERVICE Our server, Nia, was a star. Attentive, sharp memory, and smooth service all the way through. Zero notes. FOOD The menu is small, so if you show up ravenous, pace yourself or plan to Uber home after a cocktail‑heavy evening. I'm allergic to cheese, so I had to double‑check ingredients, but the Mushroom Flatbread was outstanding, flavor was superb and the best part was they did not skimp on the mushrooms! A+ for that. I also tried the Prosciutto di Parma with melon, which is a strange combo for a California girl... but hey, I never said I wasn't a weirdo. Drinks are not my thing since I enjoy company without alcohol's help, so I can't help you with that. DATE‑WORTHY OR NOT? Absolutely. Alter Ego gets a double thumbs‑up from me and a strong recommendation for your next Silver Singles date. It's easy to find, the seating is comfortable (even for those of us with backs that like to complain), and they even offer tube pillows for extra support. Tell me that's not romance.

Meaning, we were spending time together and just moving through the interaction, like clothes in a spin cycle. But going here made our time together mean something more because we had arrived at a space that elevated our mood and spirits. So we were now feeling the suds and splashes of the movement not just in the monotony of the spin. As we entered, I felt like the place was a Chinese Market but indoors. I have never bene to China (I have yet to die so maybe one day my feet will have the chance to step the Great Wall) but I feel like their street vendors would have stands like the seating motif within the main room of this joint. The place was not packed but there was no space within the wooden booths for Conrad and I. I asked for options, and they showed me two different rooms. The first room was the Hao Pen You room which was heavilty yet beautifully decorated with varying red lanterns in the ceiling. Additionally, there was a paper dragon hanging in the ceiling, swimming in the air amidst the lanterns. The host ushered me in, and milaseconds after I felt a quick sense of awe. Not like the one I felt one I saw the Sisteen Chappel, but one that compelled me to snap quick photos of the aerial view. The host understood. She stopped her explanation to give me the space to feel my wow that was delivered in a red envelope. I eventually decided to sit in this room, so there is more detail that I can deliver, but before I do, I did request to see the other room of the house. So we crossed the room with the wooden booths and stepped into an immersive Tiki Bar that gave shipwreck vibes. Like the survivors of shipwreck took what they could from the boat's carcass, and made a great bar in the beach that glowed with the light of jellyfish and had seaweed on the ceiling as decoration that was not stale like mistletoe on a doorway. When Conrad and I sat in the Hao Pen You room, we learned that it was a quasi speak easy. According to history, in the 1800's it was common for Chinese immigrants to visit gambling and opium dens behind laundry rooms to find a space that they could call their own and escape discrimination. I am sure that dens of the past did not have the blazing style of the room I was sitting in, but I did appreciate learning about the history that inspired the room. Only because the pain of the past was reshaped to honor a culture in theatrical and edgy red. Plus, as one of my pictures show, the dragon's face and laser lit eyes, made it seem like a real creature born to this earth, not one simply reserved for myth and Game of Throne episodes. I appreciated the immersive trip to Chinese's lore and history. The reason why I did not give this place 5 stars, was the food. The food in general was (maybe tragically) basic. Conrad did not confirm this fact until we were outside the restaurant. I asked him why did he not share his feelings with our server when she asked? He explained why would he, she did not cook the food, and she could not do anything? And I am from the camp, where honesty matters but I guess it might only matter to me? He might be right what does honest feedback do for a server? Conrad might have been practicing "restaurant politeness" like keep the situation civil because if one becomes a demanding patron or eater then one breaks the social contract and becomes rude. Specifically, Conrad and I had the Vegan Dumplings, the pork buns, and rice wrapped in leaves. And even though we had different bites, and each one had their own flavor profile at the end I can only describe each bite as basic. That is my opinion, and I stand by it, as I should, as every one should. Perhaps this restaurant owns this identity. This might be a place that offers theatrical atmosphere, great drinks, vibes that make a Tuesday special, but their food might be the area that remains standard, and in the final score card the servers of the joint might be ok with that.

I'm always surprised when they're empty; the food is so good! Fresh, high quality and delicious. And the cocktails are some of the best in Long Beach. On top of that, they have a unique selection of tequilas and mezcals. Super underrated spot. Service is always pretty good to great! We usually get some excellent servers. Friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and happy to make recommendations. Definitely must try the ribeye taco, sopes and octopus if you want something smaller. The ribeye steak, whole fish or leg of lamb are also outstanding. Some items come with their homemade, blue corn tortillas. So yummy. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend! Parking can be a challenge, as is normal in the area. Don't let that discourage you!

The service was friendly and attentive, although it was a little slower than expected. We started with cocktails. I ordered the Pocho, made with Amaras Verde Mezcal, Bourbon, pina, guanábana, lime. The drink was enjoyable and unique, with tropical flavors that worked well together, although it was not quite as balanced as I expected. My fiancée ordered the Paloma Blanca, and it was excellent, awell-crafted cocktail. One of the highlights of the meal was the Tacos Dorados. With crema, and avocado emulsion was absolutely delicious. The flavors immediately reminded me of the potato tacos my mom used to make when I was growing up. The mushrooms added a rich depth of flavor. We also ordered the Arrachera, a 10-ounce Black Angus skirt steak served Anaheim pepper hand-pressed heirloom blue corn tortillas. The steak was flavorful and well seasoned, although it was slightly more underdone. Overall, the food was very good, and the atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable. While the pricing felt a little high for some of the portions, the quality of the ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and memorable flavors made it a restaurant we would gladly return to. The Tacos Dorados alone are worth coming back for and also to try all other dishes like the pulpo.

False Advertising and Total Failure of a "Speakeasy"…read more This place should not call itself a speakeasy. According to their website, they are strict about dress code, reservations, and no large parties. None of that was enforced. People arrived wearing sports clothes, tennis shoes, and flip-flops, and a group of more than 10 people was allowed in. That group was loud, drunk, and screaming, completely destroying any speakeasy ambiance. We had a reservation booked one week in advance for 2 tables of six, yet by 8:30 pm, we were told no food was available, despite the bar being almost empty. The water was already on the table when we arrived and tasted strongly of chlorine, with no ice. The waitress was clearly new, untrained, and unprepared. She did not know the menu, didn't know how to take an order properly, and provided no guidance whatsoever. There was one bartender Ricardo, who took over an hour to prepare cocktails and showed no sense of urgency or care. The dramatic cocktail descriptions sounded impressive, but the drinks did not match the descriptions at all. Because of the delays, we were never even able to properly toast or celebrate our friend. The charcuterie board took forever and arrived with an absurd amount of cheese and only six pieces of bread. To make things worse, part of the food we ordered never arrived at all. The live jazz band advertised and promised never showed up. When asked, the staff responded with: "I don't know, they were supposed to be here. I don't have their phone number." That level of disorganization is unacceptable. At the end of the night, we were shocked to receive a check close to $600 for two tables, despite each person only having one cocktail and shared food. The bartender, Ricardo, approached us and said: "Well, sorry, we really tried tonight! It wasn't the best, but we tried." Honestly, that comment made the experience even more frustrating. I can't imagine how bad it would have been if they hadn't "tried."That statement perfectly summarizes the problem -- trying is not enough when everything fails. I would not recommend this place for a speakeasy experience. This is not a speakeasy. It's a poorly run bar hiding behind a concept it does not deliver. Do not recommend.
