Stopped by here with a friend the other week for our monthly dinner tradition, and this place definitely hit the mark! Though the place doesn't take reservations, we were able to be seated shortly after we walked in, but I did notice it got more crowded as the night went on. I got the standard Katsu option (sorry if I am forgetting the name at the moment), and I really loved the portion size. The pork itself was a lovely amount of crispy, but also generous in how thick the slices were. I especially loved the sauce that accompanied the meal, to the point where I asked for a second serving of it. Our service was quite attentive, and I overall had a really positive experience here. Tried out 88 Katsu in Fullerton, looks like it's a newer spot, and while there's room to grow, there are definitely some good things going on here. Food: The katsu was cooked well, crispy on the outside and tender inside. The original sauce had a tomato-based flavor that paired nicely with the meat. I also tried the spicy sauce, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me. It had a more artificial taste and wasn't very spicy. The salad was fresh, though the dressing leaned on the sour side, possibly from a bit of lemon. Overall, the menu is on the simpler side, but sometimes that's a good sign a place is focusing on doing a few things well. Service: Service was one of the highlights of the visit. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and very accommodating. We asked to try a different sauce and she brought it out right away, no extra charge. She checked in on us often and made sure we had everything we needed, that kind of hospitality makes a big difference. Ambiance: The restaurant looks newly opened, very clean, bright, and spacious. It has a calm and comfortable feel, which made for a nice dining experience. While the flavors didn't all hit for me, I think 88 Katsu has a lot of potential. The pork katsu is very tender and the portion size was huge. I enjoyed it at the restaurant and do dinner the next night at home. The curry is not a strong curry and it looks like there is ground pork in it so more meat for the meat lovers. The sobu was fresh and the portion was just right. Authentic old-fashion jumbo donkatsu (Wang Donkatsu) the best in oc for sure. I was looking for good and traditional Wang donkatsu place, and finally found one. Sauce is strong but it balances with katsu, rice, and even dwenjang soup(korean miso). The katsu fried with small size bread crumb definitely the traditional way of Wang donkatsu and it balances well with the strong sauce. Two thumbs up. I arrived at 7 p.m. on Friday. Fortunately, there was no line and I was able to sit right away. We ordered one Korean-style pork cutlet and one Japanese-style pork cutlet. Instead of miso soup, they served radish soup and a very small piece of kimchi. The portion size of the cutlet was large for the price. The meat was tender and the saltiness was just right. Since the sauce is a key part of a pork cutlet, I paid attention to that -- but both sauces weren't great. The Korean-style sauce tasted too much like cream sauce, and the tonkatsu sauce was too watery. It didn't feel like a place I'd call a "must-try," but since it's close by, I might go again occasionally. However, I wouldn't really recommend it to others. read more

My favorite sauce was the lighter color one (maybe a tomato-creamy sauce) with the curry on the side (keeps the tonkatsu from getting soggy). The side dishes were okay and limited (variety with just daikon and two jalapeño slices) and one of the few things that could be improved! The udon quality was great with the noodles being a good amount of chewy. The service was good, the servers always came over whenever we had any questions. The place overall was very cute as well! Saw it on a Yelp list and wanted to try it. Went with GF around 1145 am on a Saturday and got straight in. Tried the cheese tonkatsu, that was unusually and surprisingly yummy. Also had the 88 Jumbo Tonkatsu, which provided an abundance of Tonkatsu. The restaurant discriminates on sauces, so the jumbo had like a plainer sauce with a hint of tomato, but the cheese had that sauce plus a more traditional rich, umami-packed glaze . The dishes came with shredded cabbage, white rice and stylized banchan. Of note was the funky music playlist and the next time I would try the spicy tonkatsu. Service was efficient and polite. I enjoyed the meal although I prefer more traditional Japanese tonkatsu restaurants to this Korean-styled one. read more

My wife and I stopped in here on 10/10/25. We hadn't been to any restaurants in the Amerige Heights town center yet and wanted to check it out. Originally we spotted a busy place called "I Got My Sound Chicken." However we walked out after waiting for 7-8 minutes due to many other guests cutting in front of us to write their name on a standby list which we didn't even know existed, and we were completely ignored by the staff the entire time. After leaving, we walked over to 88 Katsu and decided to give it a try. Suffice to say I'm very glad we did. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and sat at a table right away, and given complimentary water. The restaurant is clean, has nice ambiance, and is appropriately lit. You can place your order directly from a tablet on your table. We received our orders promptly. The menu is somewhat small, but the food was absolutely delicious. I had the 88 Tonkatsu and my wife had the Cheese Tonkatsu. The pork was very tender, had delicious flavor, and the breading gave it a very nice crunch. I also appreciate the portion sizes; you absolutely get your money's worth in terms of the amount of food you receive. We were both extremely impressed and satisfied with our meal.
