The meat butcher is very rude at this location. I asked him to cut the pork shoulder in three (3) for me. He says to me, "We don't cut this kind of meat. You have to cut it yourself." Hello!? DON'T EVER GO TO THIS STORE!!!! Late afternoon around 7:50 p.m my brother and I we went to this store to buy some seafood for our family night dinner. When we came to seafood station two men who were standing there and talking. We finally decided what we want to buy and when we tried to reach out to any of these men they were acting like they DON'T SEE US. We called - we asked, they were looking at us with one eye but were keep ignoring. There was an old lady who came later and start to talk to one of these men and I asked her "excuse me m'm we want to buy some seafood..." she turned her head to other side and smiled and later she said "i don't know." When another customer walked by, they start to serve her, while they were keep ignoring us. Later one of them said something to other man and he asked us "what do you want?"( we have a video of everything that happened there) obviously we didn't want anything anymore! Such a disrespectful and HATEFUL service I never had in these area. We came there to spend money for your business, we came there to buy food, one of your obligation as a business to customer service to have a customer service that will leave good experience on customer who is paying for your service. We want to know is there any standards that we don't suit in in an order to buy seafood in your store? When I lived in Concord, I would frequent here quite often. It's your standard typical Ranch 99 where you can buy a lot of varieties of Asian produce, snacks, meat, sauces, etc. The prices are reasonable but the sales are even better. I like their hot food section with the dim sum. I always find that this parking lot gets really busy and it can be difficult to find parking closer to the Ranch 99 but there's usually parking regardless! The produce is hit and miss - not always the best quality but sometimes you can find a decent deal on some items. I always get Bok Choy from here but I feel like other places have better quality. It is cheaper though here at Ranch 99. I think it's also hit and miss on how long/busy the store is. I find myself waiting in line longer than I would like or maybe it's because I go on weekends sometimes. I have found myself more frustrated than I should at the register. Read the sale carefully because sometimes you think you grab the right item but it's only selected item or maybe the sale ended and sign is still up. Yesterday, I had a pretty negative experience with the cashier but I felt like service isn't usually something I look for at Asian grocery stores. I found him to be pretty rude and he didn't even bother to bag my items for me (he just tossed my reusable bag aside). He didn't even seem to care. But what can you expect for an Asian grocery store, they're not here to be helpful or friendly, just to make money. I come here probably at least 3 times a week. There is a huge selection of items although there could be better Korean ingredients. I haven't tried their hot foods section but be aware that many of their sale items are near it rather than located in the aisles. read more

I am regular customer here and I think that they have a big selection of essential Asian grocery items. However, I have one concern, "the sanitation". Just today I saw a kid picked up vegetable, licked the vegetable and put that back on the shelf. It's definitely not the store's fault, but I think it would be better if they relocate vegetables that aren't usually packed to somewhere out of reach for kids. read more

You come and get what you need. Pretty comprehensive store with bakery items from Sheng Kee. Service just ok but what else do you expect from a big Asian grocery store? The parking lot gets a bit crazy but just head back to the second row and you'll find parking instead of trying to find a front row spot. I went in for Dim-Sum lunch today, and on the way to the dim sum, I could not get past the roast pork display. I just had to stop and get some of what looked like irresistible goodness That's when I was accosted by one of the the most rude and obnoxious people I've ever come across. It was the small woman wielding a large meat cleaver. I pointed at the hanging roast pork, and said "some of that please" Before I even asked she blurted something out I could not possibly understand. I asked her to repeat and she shouted "TEN!" ... "NINETY!" ... "NINE!" ...."POUND!" loudly, moving her whole body in a thrusting motion as she shouted each word. I just looked at her and said "one half pound please" and she repeated back to me incorrectly "one and a half pound!" while scooping up some previously chopped remenents from the floor of the display case. I spoke up and said "No No No, I want from the rib" pointing at the hanging portion, with the rib meat. She then took off a huge portion of the rib meat, looked like 2 lb, and weighed it.. was about 1 and a half pounds. I told her that's too much, but she argued. So at that point i could just leave or accept it. I didn't want to leave empty handed so I took it. I only wanted a taste, but I'm sure it will get eaten. It was delicious by the way. I then moved on to the dim sum counter and picked some nice things out to eat. The prices here are good and I was expecting good quality dim sum. Slightly disappointed when I finally tucked in. Many types of dim sum use a shrimp filling, which is usually pink and consist of ground/chopped shrimp. This filling was white and seemed like it was mostly filler. At least everything was fresh, and most of the dim sum was tasty. I will probably try this again, hopefully it was just an off day. read more

Never going back to this one again. At check out I realized I didn't have my money and the store would not let me leave or move to a private line to let me figure out what was going on. I eventually just walked out since no one was listening to me about wanting to leave after a certain point. Like who takes 5 minutes to just give me my change back. I go so fed up with them not explaining why I was forced to stay and just walked out and told them to keep my $13 cause they where taking forever and had no care for how I was unclear what was going on and forcing me to stay in the now huge line full of people staring was no longer worth my groceries or my money. It is huge and much of it I haven't even explored yet, mostly because this is where we go to find the random ingredients we can't find at Trader Joe's or Safeway. There are Strong toxic chemical smell inside the entire store in July when I visited in the afternoon. It smelled like bleach mixed with ammonia, stronger and more stimulating than the regular bleach or chlorine that most public places normally use. All the employees are wearing a big mask which showed they also feared such a strong and sick chemical. But why they used it in a pace that related to food safety? It is harmful for customers in such a environment! Chlorine mix with ammonia is very toxic and danger to human's health according to online searching. I got headache, nausea, fast heart beat, sick stomach, dizzy, numb tongue and lost appetite. The nose and eye seemed like swelling and sore after back home and the next day. The store manager completely did not considerate and was irresponsible for customer's safety. Such a behavior will possibly lead to a law suit if it causes someone health trouble. read more

Compared to the 99 Ranch locations in the South Bay, this one is just okay. Customer service is almost non-existent and items are difficult to find on the shelves. I had to circle around the same aisles numerous times, scanning them for needed ingredients. They also don't carry some essential items, Iike dashi granules, which I was able to find at a small local specialty store, Diablo Oriental Foods: tinyurl.com/ydgr89ae. When they first opened, this was a spotless location with easily maneuverable aisles. It's since become more densely packed making it tougher to get past other shoppers closer to the bakery area. Overall, the prices are low and they regularly feature promotions in their circulars, which can be found on their website. Bought Duck, pork & chicken from their rotisserie. One bite of duck, one bite of pork threw them away. Chicken we didn't even try. Opened the container saw mold & threw it away with out tastings. $65. down the drain. Not fresh at all. Had to be there about a week. Never again. read more

Review #095 - 2016 I've shopped at this Ranch 99 a few times and they are decent. They have a good selection of Asian products. Most of their meat & produce selections are pretty fresh, but it's a little disappointing that they don't offer the 5 lb bags of bean sprouts nor the 10 lb bags of rice noodles that I needed for my gigantic pot of oxtail pho. Other than that, I've always been able to find everything else that I needed. They also have a ready-to-eat food bar that serves dim sum, soy sauce chicken, roast duck and roast pork. All of which my brothers have purchased before and we all thought that they were well prepared & seasoned. Just keep in mind that this is an Asian grocery store so don't expect good service or expect anyone to completely understand what you are asking for if you don't speak Chinese. read more

Let's get one thing straight, you should always know where you are, what you are getting, and understand culture somewhat before you post reviews and pass judgement. 99 Ranch has some of the rudest unhelpful employees, especially at the counters. But you're not at Raley's or Safeway or Berkeley Bowl or Whole Foods. You are at an Asian Supermarket where you can get hard to find Asian goods for a lot cheaper than the "Asian" section at any of your big name grocery stores. If you are looking for ingredients for pho', pad Thai, or whatever else you can think of you should find it here. If what you wanted was a great selection of exotic vegetables and fruits and not lose a limb due to pricing then you are at the right place. If you want fresh fish, cleaned, and cut how you want and even deep fried then you found the spot. If you want some cuts of meat you won't find at your local chains, again you are at the right spot. Do I doubt some of the other posts here about spoiled or bad or rotten food from the deli? No, I don't. But that goes with knowing where you are. I, for one, don't buy anything from the deli as they are likely serving food that was right at the spoilage date. It's a case of you get what you pay for and you since you didn't pay a pretty penny then your food won't be so pretty either. I fill my pantry with many hard to find goodies here. I can also grab lots of produce that I just can't find elsewhere, as well as spices and select fish and meats. I know where I'm at, which is why I can view this place with an honest and open-minded point of view. If you need something you are familiar with maybe they should label a small aisle and a couple of shelves the "American" section. Ouch! I'm not making it racial. Maybe a little? Since County Square Market in Pleasant Hill a few blocks from where I lived closed down months ago, I don't shop Chinese grocery stores as much as before, but when I do, I come here. 99 Ranch is part of a 20+ store chain up and down the west coast, with most locations in California. I have been to the one in Cupertino, El Cerrito, San Jose (Hostetter Road) and this one near Fry's in Concord. In fact, finding a 99 Ranch near a Fry's isn't that uncommon, because there are three things most Asians like with this combination: 1. Food 2. Electronics 3, Cheap Prices If there was a BMW dealer nearby, it would be a Trifecta! (Actually, there is Concord of BMW just a couple of blocks away! No wonder I see so many Asians around here!) Actually, this strip mall has a Mexican grocery, too. But more and more, I see Hispanics shopping at 99 Ranch, because they realized the prices are even cheaper on some items! Well, 99 Ranch used to be cheap. Now, they are more about selection. This store has a pretty good selection, especially if you are Chinese. For all the other Asian cultures, not as much. You would still have to go to a Japanese Market like Tokyo Fish Market in Berkeley to get the real Japanese stuff, or a Korean mom and pop to get the real Korean variety. And a Seafood City to get the real Filipino variety. Wait, there is a Seafood City (and Jollibee's) nearby in Concord! No wonder I see so many Asians around here! As many times as I've been here I only have a few checkins. More so because the YELP app on Andriod is sometimes very unstable.... but, its never too late to write a review about the the 99 Ranch Market. Here are my views and opinions.... I like living in the Bay Area for the fact that it's very diverse and that so many ethnicities are venturing out and opening establishments to fill the void some people have been longing for. Living in the Bay Area it's not goong to be very often you met someone who hasn't tried another races native food or know how to cook a dish that normally some may not be looked at to know how to cook. Me, I would like to think in my past life I was Asian :D I love the culture, I like kung fu and a very big "AND" I happen to go bonkers yo! for any food or goodies from asian countries. Concord, in The Park and Shop is just absolutely perfect for 99 Ranch Market. In Park in Shop you can find many ethnic eateries and such, but 99 Ranch is definitely the stand out in my opinion. Let me go into brief details.. 99 Ranch Market is a fair size, especially when it comes down to other little shops and markets in the same strip mall. They have a wide range of things here to please many. I know Orientals and Pacific Islanders really love that this place is here. Country Square Market use to be off Contra Costa a few years back and it closed which was unfortunate, I loved the food there too. But, 99 Ranch has stepped in and I feel filled the void. Seafood City is nice and in ways has it's own flair, but 99 Ranch I really fell is special. I love the produce here, although not shopped to often, its always pretty fresh and reasonably priced. I haven't purchased any fresh live seafood from here yet, but I know this will be my to go spot for when I have a crab or lobster tooth forsure. I feel live is the best way to get your seafood and they have that covered here. I happen to also be a partaker of many snacks from Asia. They have Haw Rolls here which I absolutely love and couldn't find at other asian specialty stores. They have Nagaraya Cracker nuts here way cheaper then most of the competition. I've turned alot of my co workers into fans of these crunchy, lightly sweet and spicy peanuts. And I like Yan Yan! Let's just sum it up and say....the snacks that most would love or want to try is here and the prices are right. The togo food selection is pretty..typical. Not to say it isn't good, it's just your typical fair, nothing over the top. I like their combo plate special, for me working nights it's the perfect scoop and go solution. Best part at under 10 bucks ($8.65) you can get a pretty filling plate. The dim sum here is pretty good all so, the prices vary, but they are reasonable enough to just fill your tray and grab one of the many pearl tea selections (starting at $1.99 and prices vary) and go on about your day. They have a bakery here, something I don't see to often in other asian grocery stores and I think that's pretty good. I haven't had anything from it yet though..but everything looks like it's the shizznit seeing how the line looks everytime I walk by it. The service here is decent. Its not over the top in my opinion. It's lacking more often then not. I hate being rushed or not greeted or responded to in a dry, blunt manner. Like, if you don't like customer service then....maybe you should choose another career. Thus my one less star. The place for the most part is tidy, I've seen no issues when it comes to the cleanliness of this store. So I wrap this up by saying.... In conclusion, many asian stores are starting to pop up in the east bay again. But 99 Ranch is bigger and has a different flair about it. If you happen to be in Concord stop by and be your own judge. My teen boys live across the street from a traditional Asian Market in SF. They were very impressed with 99 Ranch Market! They loved all the prepared food (Asian version of Whole Foods, but not nearly as healthy) and the frozen prepared foods that they can heat and eat. If you love this kind of food this is the place to be. A comparison comment my son made between this market and the ones in SF is that 99 Ranch had many items on the shelves written in English. He said the ones in SF don't have many products written in English on them. They have a huge prepared Chinese food section, dim sum section and a noodle soup bar. Plus they have whole roasted chickens, ducks and other cooked meats. They also have an eating area with tables and chairs and seating outside as well. They have a huge selection of fresh meat in the meat market as well as live seafood! $4.99/pound for live dungeonous crab! $3.99 for cooked! They had fresh Chilean Sea Bass for $15.99/pound. Not a huge selection of sake but they have their own liquor counter. Love this store and just wish there was one closer to my house than Concord or Florin Road. It's in the Park and Shop Shopping Center which gets busy and parking can be a pain but at least there is a parking lot, you just might have to walk from a few stores down. read more

The only other 99 Ranch Market I've been to is in El Cerrito. I am SO GLAD that we have one in Contra Costa, even though I don't live at home as often since I live in Berkeley now. Produce section: This is the ultimate place to stock up on hot pot goodies. My family likes to put in chunks of taro into the soup, and they usually have a fresh selection. According to my mom, you have to pick the ones that feel the lightest so they are more "fluffy" when cooked. I honestly don't know if this is a legit method, but most of the time we get a good one. I also like to get packs of jumbo udon (I believe it was around $2.19 for a pack of 3) to throw into the soup. The variety seems bigger compared to the County Square Market in Antioch (although some things are a bit more pricey at 99) Fish: the fish is always fresh! My mom usually gets a catfish to bring home and steam w/ soy sauce and ginger and green onion. But if you go there too late in the evening (especially on weekends), they will most likely be out of the live ones. Dim sum / Self-Serve: The dim sum pretty decent, considering this location is out of the Bay Area. We always got the siu mai for my grandfather because he is too old to make the car journey out to Oakland Chinatown. The steamed buns are usually good--warm and fluffy with tasty filling. Their roast duck is nice and crispy and has enough meat on the bones. The BBQ pork is also good--good mix of meat and fat (which is important for BBQ pork!). The only thing we got from the self-serve was the small box of eggplant (I think it was $3.95), and I liked it because the eggplant looked fresh and it had a yummy sweet chili sauce. A tad on the oily side though, but it worked out when mixed with white rice. There was enough to feed my brother, mom, and myself for dinner along with the BBQ pork and veggies my mom made. Bakery: Got 2 loaves of house bread for $5--one was coconut and the other was shredded pork (a personal favorite of mine). My mom didn't like the bread because she said it was too soft and chewy. But I liked it because I felt that Sheng Kee Bakery made their bread a bit too hard sometimes. I also liked the fluffiness of their bread. Also, the shredded pork bread had bits of green onion in the top, which I did not mind (but my mom did not like). Both breads tasted great after putting it in the toaster too. Parking: The one thing we had issue with, especially since we were driving our Toyota van. Since 99 Ranch is situated in a big shopping mall, the number of parking spots directly in front of the store are limited. It also tends to get crowded in the afternoon/evening, probably because people stop by to grab groceries on their way home from work. We had to swing around in a couple circles before finding a spot. I'm only reviewing the dim sum. The turnip cake tasted off, almost fishy. The eggplant was a 4 maybe. The fried tofu with shrimp inside was hard, chewy and tough on the outside. The siu mai was quite meaty but not that tasty. I had some kind of rice roll that tasted awful. So overall, I would say this was far and away the worst dim sum I have ever had. I agree with the other Yelper--this is definitely Ranch 99 for us I love coming here for veggies, fruits and their seafood. I wish there was a Ranch 99 out in Brentwood or Antioch area but I don't mind driving out to Concord. There is plenty of parking in front and behind the building, close to the freeway and other restaurants like Rockin Crawfish. All the employees are nice and efficient. I love Asian stores and can easily spend hours at Ranch 99 looking at all the different things you can buy. From the fresh seafood to the sweet pastries and hot Chinese food, you can satisfy all your Eastern cravings in one location. I especially like to take advantage of their dim sum. If you are craving dim sum and don't want to go to a restaurant, then go to Ranch 99. They have an assortment of dim sum (already cooked) that you can pick and choose. 3 pieces for only $2.50-- not too bad for a light lunch to go. Also, the bakery/ dessert section has a variety of pastries from different countries such as China, Japan and the Philippines. My favorite things to get are the panda cookies and cupcakes--not too sweet for the palate. Also this store is extremely clean and well organized, which are pluses especially when comparing it to other Ranch 99 stores. So if you're in the mood for quick and affordable dim sum and unique desserts, come to Ranch 99 and check out their selection. This store was greatly needed in the area! I used to go to Country Square Market, but this store is much closer to my house. I love Asian food, and now I can buy the ingredients I need to cook all the foods I miss from when I lived in Japan. As far as Japanese ingredients go, it's lacking compared to Nijiya Market or other Japanese markets, but it's got an alright variety of various Asian ingredients. I always buy the mix seafood combo from the fish department! It's a great price! It comes with mussels, shrimp, octopus, squid, and clams. I also like the $1 off coupon you get for spending $20 or more. It's good at the bakery and hot bar. I usually shop, get my coupon, and head to the hot bar. Sometimes I get the 3 piece dim sum (but it's pretty greasy), but lately I've been getting a small noodle dish. With the coupon, the noodles only cost me like 70 cents. read more
