This review is more about the wait time. We arrived around 630ish to order take out. There were several people behind us in line. Our order wasn't that big, 4 items. Poke nachos, katsu chicken, won tons and fries. Ten minutes passed. Orders were filled. We waited. Fifteen minutes, the people behind us were getting called to the counter to pick up their order. More time passed, people who sat down in the restaurant were being served. WTH. Finally, at waiting almost 30 minutes, we received our to go order. The only saving grace was that the food was delicious. I hope they fix the wait time issue soon. read more

Very quick service and nice servers. We had loco moco and 9th island burger. The loco moco had a lot of gravy which we love and the burger had the most perfectly cooked fried egg. The one thing I wish the burger had a Hawaiian bun, but otherwise great! read more

Chicken katsu sauce is like water down ketchup type. It's not the typical katsu sauce. You need to remove the current this sauce. The bbq chicken isn't as seasoned as the other Hawaiian restaurants. This is truly 3.5 out of 5 stars!!! read more

After trying this place 3x I probably won't be coming back. The food each time I came was ok or disappointing. Quality isn't consistent. Also the menu just seems limited for an island restaurant. I notice people seem to like the garlic chicken which seems to be everybody go to. While it was ok the couple of times I tried it was either way too much garlic, too much breading, or being over cooked. The other foods ( which I shared with family or friends) was questionable. I tried the wonton mien and for $13 I would except more than 3 wontons. The soup tasted watery and lacked flavor. The macaroni salad was bland too. I just feel the other restaurants similar to this just have better food. read more

The garlic chicken was amazing. Mac salad needs some work... the bbq chicken was a solid dish. The team needs more training. My phone order was placed and i was told it would be 10 minutes. I was 20 away. That was more than enough time to have everything ready and checked. No napkins or cutlery packed. They forgot my smoothie. The situation was corrected but it was a bigger headache to correct than it should have been because no manager was on the clock and staff was not properly trained to address the issue. First staff I spoke with was snotty and not helpful, the second was sweet and very helpful. Ultimately I would definitely try again if craving Hawaiian BBQ and in the area. read more

I was excited to try 9th island, I love Pacific Islander food! The food was not good . I got the mix plate for my self with chicken katsu and BBQ beef and got the saimin with chicken for my wife as takeout. When I got home I opened my plate and the chicken katsu was burnt, the BBQ beef was okay, and the macaroni salad had no flavor. The best thing out of the mix plate was sadly the white rice. My wife's chicken saimin was okay but tasted a little fishy as she said. I ordered the wontons and they were supposed to be pork & spinach, I struggled to find any pork in any of the wontons and the spinach overpowered all the flavor. I am not a picky eater by any means but I struggled to even chew the chicken katsu. I can say I tried 9th island grill, but will not be eating their food again. read more

Their food is sooo good. We had the bbq chicken plate and garlic chicken and kalua pork and cabbage combo. Both were excellent. What needs improvement are the rice which was a bit mushy and Mac salad which was very bland. Improve on those two and the rating goes up a star. Room for improvement but I'd still recommend in the meantime and forewarn. read more

I have ordered lunch here numerous and eaten in as well. The teriyaki chicken plate is delicious the chicken is freshly grilled and moist. I love the salmon plate also because they prepare the fish just right and don't over cook it. My favorite dish is the Portuguese fried rice. It's a meal in itself! The service is friendly you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. The ambiance is okay but I don't need fancy when the food is this good. I highly recommend this place. We found this place recently on our way to the Costco store. We popped in for lunch and I had a 9th Island Tuna Poke bowl. It was fresh, well made and absolutely delicious. We liked it so much we went back again this afternoon and I had the exact same thing, "to go" this time, just as good the second time around. My husband had the fried Saimin noodles, also excellent . The premises were very clean and the staff was friendly and efficient. This place is a real winner! read more

The garlic chicken was crispy and had great taste the chicken it self wasn't super fatty a lot of nice white chicken parts also the garlic sauce is amazing! My wife, friends and I hit this spot after a few drinks down at Lake Las Vegas since all those places close early. Man were we surprised! The food was great, and the service (Heather) was even better. She was knowledgeable about the menu, patient and happy to serve us. The food has been very inconsistent each time we come here. Got the fried rice which we usually love but was disappointed by the amount of meat included in each. Every time we come here it's usually a hit or miss and it's frustrating because when it's good, it's really delicious! Their fries are less than ideal, seems like frozen made with no flavor. Pretty disappointed. Came here last time it was fine. I got workers on the phone messaging and goofing around. Ordered to eat dine in, ordered spicy garlic chicken with my roommate, same order. He got his food quickly meanwhile I'm waiting. Cashier didn't even bother to check. I even tipped these guys mind you. I usually don't make the effort to write negative reviews but I'm extremely annoyed. 11/4 at 7:3 pm. I had to check up on my order and tell them to just put it to go already because my roommate was pretty much done with the food. Then I open my plate, portion is small, no Mac salad meanwhile my roommate got big portion, and Mac salad. What's going on? I am from Hawai'i but my goodness, this was ridiculous. I normally call in advance to place an order for pick up and have always been given an estimate of around 15 mins each time. I usually come pick it up right at 15-20 mins and my order is always ready. Haven't tried anything else but the garlic chicken and spicy garlic chicken plate. I was digging the garlic chicken at first, but since I tried the spicy garlic chicken I haven't went back since! Chicken is nice and crispy! Garlic sauce is just right and the spice isn't too hot or too mild. You can even ask for extra spicy garlic sauce on the side! I'm not from HI but my fiancée is and she even says it tastes like home! My only gripe is the Mac salad is a tad bit bland but you can always add a little salt and pepper to make it right! This will be our go to spot when we crave garlic chicken! read more

It was our first time here and was excited to discover a new spot that serves rice. We ordered 9th Island Ramen, 9th Island fries and garlic chicken to go. The food smells amazing.... but to our dismay the Ramen and fries were super, super salty. We added water to the Ramen broth but it was still salty. We ended up using just half broth and half water just to get it to decent taste ‍ the chicken topping of the fries was okay, but the power seasoning and sauces they added were too salty. I don't know, maybe it was just the powder seasoning. But they were all mixed together so not really sure. We were only able to eat less than half of the fries as it was just too salty. Those two was a waste sadly. The garlic chicken was good though. Nothing expectacular. It was the only thing edible from what we ordered. I don't know if we will be brave enough to go back and order again. Too bad coz the kids really want to get some bowlology. read more

We asked for the salmon to be lightly cooked and they grilled it badly 3/4th of the way through the very small portion of fish. Staff made a phone call to the 'owner' who was highly defensive and wouldn't credit us for either meal. Yesterday I placed a pick up order over the phone for a BBQ chicken plate and a wonton mien. When I got home I realized my BBQ chicken plate was missing the side Mac salad and no sauce. I essentially paid for some dry marinated chicken with 2 scoops of white rice. Also the wonton mien literally only had 3 wontons total. Definitely felt like I got shorted. Unfortunately it was mediocre quality at best, I wouldn't recommend or return based on that experience. read more
