We've been here several times before, but no review? Strange. We always get a margarita pizza, and usually get the arancini as well. We've ordered the cauliflower and the burrata before, lived them all. I love the cocktails, and the Contessa (gin, carpano bianco, italicus) was superb. I also had a glass of montepulciano, better than most places offer it by the glass, and reasonably priced. They brought out things in a strange order today, apparently because our server forgot about the arancini (according to another server, who shouldn't throw his colleague under the bus like that). We sat outside in perfect weather, watching Hayes Street pedestrians and their many, many dogs. Or the Hayes Street dogs and their humans. Whichever. I went during their brunch time and let me tell you it tasted pretty good. The breakfast pasta tasted similar to a carbonara due to the bacon and egg but there was a meat like sauce that was able to let you know it was a different dish. The focaccia was crispy and aromatic af with a hint of salt at the end. The fungi pizza was strong with the different mushroom and they used whole cloves of garlic (which was really strong for me, but im not a big fan of garlic). Overall pretty good read more

4.5 stars rounded up. Do I love the pizza at a Mano or do I love the chili oil I drizzled onto a Mano's pizza? Yes and yes. Though my Margherita ($20) topped with arugula & an egg (+$2 each) was fantastic on its own, the side of oil dialed it up a notch with its richness & spicy kick. My friend's pick, the Bianca ($23) pizza with an egg (+$2), was equally as delicious. Though I'm partial to red sauce pizzas, the asparagus, pancetta, spring onion, & provolone made for such a dynamic flavor combination, I didn't miss it at all with this one. I wish I had room to try the Bucatini Diavola & Nutella Sundae. I did partake in a homemade Cherry Soda ($7); its amarena taste was slightly diluted. Mental note to order the Orange Calabrian Soda on my next visit, which, should all the stars align, will also be when I get a seat at one of their glorious sidewalk tables. Cute spot in Hayes Valley. I always walk by it so finally came for dinner. There was no wait for 2 on Fri evening, which was great. They do pack the tables in so it did feel a bit tight and we sat close to another table but I didn't mind much. + Ordered the fall pizza with pecorino, garlic confit, brussel sprouts and gunciale. It was good, nice crispy crust. My partner was a fan, I thought it was good, liked the brussels sprouts but I'm more of a red sauce pizza person. + We also split the bucatini amatriciana. Wish this one was more spicy, tomato sauce tasted fresh but also a bit sour/not sweet. Wasn't the most satisfying, just okay overall. Really liked the panna cotta with pomegranate and almond cookie we had for dessert. Service was good and food came out relatively quick. Would def suggest that you come before 3 or after 5 because the mid afternoon menu is extremely short and doesn't have our favorites: cauliflower app, little gem salad, or the bucatini pasta. FOOD WAS 3.75/5 The gem lettuce with anchovies salad was really delicious. $20 was a little steep tho but maybe inflation is the reason. The olives side dish was $7 I think and a lot of little olives and two big ones. I was turned off by the strong herbal taste (too much thyme and orange peel mixed in). I don't recommend this. The Rigatoni was good sized for an average person. Good amount of pork. Sauce was not overpowering. Recommend. Orange was fresh squeezed, yum. Note they do not serve any hot drinks other than coffee. No tea. Focaccia bread was very good. Soft and warm inside with thin crisped crust. Drizzled with olive oil. The olive tapenade was nice but alas it has chili which could not be removed. The dishes with chili cannot be modified. It's pre mixed sauces. Unfortunate. MULTITASKING HOSTS AND SERVERS The servers were all very busy. Didn't make too much eye contact so be prepared to flag them down. They were pleasant but bc they were so busy couldn't exchange pleasantries. Just takes your order and then on their way to the next customer. However, they were efficient and helped pull down the blinds when I was bc of the sun in my eyes. Quick 5 minute walk from War Memorial Opera House. Favorite starter was their Belfiore burrata. Loved the cheese and beets. Their ricotta meatballs were nothing exciting though. My favorite dish was the bread and olive tapenade. The food was ok but the service was kind of mean. It was my friends and I first time going there and the waiter was really short with us. The menu was different from what we saw online, so my friend had tried clarifying if maybe there was some off menu items. The waiter spoke back very loudly and this didn't really make for a great experience. With that being our first visit, the food was really just average for me. Service 2/5 - I was a single diner and was shown the seat at the very end of the window bar, very much like told to sit in the corner. Better to offer me a choice of the seven seats available. Absolutely terrible experience from start to finish. I've been here before and was excited to come back, but the quality has clearly gone downhill. To start, the host didn't say a single word to me when I checked in for my reservation. Not a hello. Not a welcome. Nothing. He stood there in complete silence for several minutes while figuring out where to seat us, and remained silent again when he finally brought us to the table. I later saw multiple Yelp reviews mentioning this same host. A Mano needs to address this. The entire purpose of a host is to make guests feel welcomed, and this was the exact opposite. The service was just as disappointing. The restaurant was obviously understaffed. Our server barely checked in with us, it took a long time to order drinks, and even longer to place our food order. Then there was the food. A Mano should genuinely be embarrassed by what was served. Every single dish arrived lukewarm, as if it had been sitting out before being rushed to the table. This included the very expensive steak. A lukewarm steak is unacceptable, and honestly concerning from a food safety standpoint. The potatoes that came with it were nearly cold and completely limp. I have never sent food back before in my life, but I did last night. The spaghetti with clams was worse. There wasn't a single whole clam in the dish. It tasted nothing like clams and sat in a watery, flavorless "sauce." Finally, the little gem salad. Also lukewarm. The greens tasted tired, and the apples were actually mushy, as if they were from the day before. This place used to be great. That's what makes this experience so disappointing. I just had the WORST experience here today. After seeing the Nutcracker ballet. My husband and I were starving. So we decided to come here. BIG mistake. First we waited about 10 minutes for someone to come and take our order. I had to flag someone down. I think he may have been the manager. So finally we got our drinks and our focaccia appetizer. We waited a while for our salad to come it was missing the anchovies which was a HUGE bummer.Then I kid you not we waited and additional 30 minutes for our pasta all the while seeing other tables getting thier food. Im not one to complain and I didnt want to make too much of it but almost 2 hours to dine seemed kinda ridiculous. I wanted some dessert and another glass of wine but then again i had absolutely no idea who our server was plus I didnt want to wait anymore than had too. So I guess what I'm trying to say it was an awful experience. There was no apology or anything from a server manager or anyone for that matter. Also no one came to our table unless I flagged someone down. I dont th8nk I'll ever come back to this restaurant. What sad about my experience is that i saw other tables getting service but us. I love the homey environment of this little gem in Hayes valley in San Francisco. Reminded me of eating in Europe where I could hear the neighbors conversation... The food and drinks were delicious. Quantity was sufficient for two people. We had beet salad, pasta, focaccia bread and dessert. I had a Bombo Miele: honey infused drink and an Americano. I highly recommend this place. My friend got the ravioli which was very buttery and richhhhhh our wonderful waitress recommended the ravioli with the spicy chili oil on top and she was really on to something. She was so lovely. This Negroni I got looked tiny but was so strong and flavorful it was perfect. We sat outside, which upon walking up seemed like a nonstarter on this cold windy grey evening. But the heaters are 10/10 and so was the people watching. Great place for date night, family dinner or catching up with a friend. I chose to try a Mano for it's location, prices and menu options. Location is great, ambience fine - it's rather small with small tables most of which were occupied. The service was disappointing in that our pleasant server took our order and didn't check on us once, the hostess brought our much needed salt. I had the spaghetti with clams - very, very few clams (not in shell, likely canned) the pasta was overcooked, the sauce was fine tasting if a little bland. My friend had the radiatori pasta with short rib ragu, again bland and although I didn't taste it, it looked like wet pasta with shredded meat tossed in. We shared the arancini which set the tone - looked good but very bland, it was listed on the menu as having mozzarella but I couldn't tell if it was there. They were also lukewarm. No greeting, no "we'll be right with you," not even eye contact. It was like I wasn't there. The restaurant was half empty, so this definitely wasn't about being busy. I've worked in food and hospitality, and I know things can get hectic, but acknowledging a guest is the bare minimum. A simple "give us just a moment" would have changed everything. Instead, I stood there with my family feeling ignored, uncomfortable, and honestly embarrassed. For context, I'm Black, and I can't pretend that didn't cross my mind while this was happening. Whether it was intentional or not, the experience felt dismissive and unwelcoming. This is not just a server issue. It is a management issue. If staff are comfortable ignoring guests at the door, it means there is no real training or leadership setting expectations about hospitality. I hope management takes this seriously and fixes it, but until then, I won't be back, and I would suggest others think twice before spending their money here. read more

Was pleased with their margarita pizza and pesto pasta. I normally don't like pesto pasta but I liked the flavor of this pasta and the pasta shape. I also particularly liked that they added green beans to their pasta. I thought it was a great addition that enhanced the dish. They had particularly good service from all servers. Our first server was very personable and genuine and the second was very customer oriented. It was clear they wanted us to have a pleasurable dining experience which I really appreciated that they went above and beyond. I was drawn to their outdoor patio and sitting outside was perfect. It was very comfortable and lovely to sit outside with a great balance of sun and shade. The prices of the food was also very reasonable. I've eaten at a Mano a couple of times and I've liked everything I've eaten so far. I had lunch here a week ago and ordered the bucatini with guanciale. It was delicious! The pasta was cooked al dente and the guanciale added a nice fattiness that contrasted with the bright marinara sauce. It did come with chilis, though I wish it was a little spicier. But I finished the plate so clearly I enjoyed it. I also wish I added an egg because I think the richness of the yolk would've been splendid with the guanciale. What I really like about this space is its outdoor seating. Hayes Valley has a sunnier microclimate and it's nice to eat al fresco there. And there's a lot of outdoor seating, though it can be high in demand when it is sunny. I remember eating a pizza outside awhile back during my lunch hour and watched the people walk by. It was relaxing and a good way to decompress after a tough day at work. And service is top notch. Everyone is friendly and the food comes out in a timely fashion. I also like that the menu changes and that it's small. It shows that the chefs focus on making perfect dishes with seasonal ingredients.
