Dumplings were doughy, smelled like old oil and the filling was more like a paste and in some very sparse. Chicken Lo Mein was just okay.

Probably the only dim sum place in Westchester, it is solidly enjoyable but nothing outstanding. Best part about the restaurant is free and relatively easy parking - 3 hours at the Marriott hotel lot. The restaurant is on the ground floor opposite the reception. Arrived around opening time on a weekday without a reservation and was promptly seated. Staff is pleasant, all English-speaking, and menu explains exactly what each dish is. The dim sum menu is limited but has all the main highlights of traditional offerings. Fried turnip cake and pork & shrimp siu mai are both delicious. Unfortunately the har gau (shrimp dumpling) and cheong fun (steamed rice crepes) are underwhelming - in both cases the rice dough is too thick and lacks finesse. Only 1 dessert option when we visited (black sesame balls). If you're trying dim sum for the first time I think this could be a nice friendly introduction. But serious dim sum lovers might find it worthwhile to drive down to NYC for the real deal. For our first time having dim sum in almost 2 years I didn't mind coughing up the ~$25 per head tab and had a rather enjoyable afternoon. read more

For about 10 years this was the best dim sum in Westchester other than Central Seafood which is now out of biz. This time it was not a good experience. The wait I know that you have to be there early or get reservations when they 1st open up. The place opened at 12pm and we were only a party of 2. We can see that there were still some tables open after the first set were seated. They said it will not be a long wait. Then about 15min into the wait. a party of 3 came in but seat them promptly though I heard that party said that they didnt want to wait 45min. We end waited 1hr 15min. More waiting The establishment moved to a phone app ordering system. The COVID killed the dim sum carts. The soup order was about 5min but the rest of the order did come for another 30min. We parked in the street though there is validated park. Ended up refilling the meter 3 times as it was a one hour limit Food Hot sour soap tasted good. A bit too much sesame oil. But felt the effect if the MSG. Pork Shumai seem to be a wrong. It seemed to be a wonton wrapped beef ball. We has to return the meat springroll. Tasted sour. They removed it off the bill. Service The Beef rice noodle roll we ordered never came. For the lunch they are only open 12-3pm. We left at 2:25pm almost the entire session. Lowest price dish was 6.95. Went here expecting a traditional dim sum experience but it is a little different! You scan a QR code per table and place your order. It's really efficient, and easy to check out. The interior of the restaurant is definitely covid compliant - with dividers in between each table. Overall, the food was good, some was better than other stuff. We had dinner two nights in a row on New Year eve (12/31/2021)and the new year night(1/1/2022) as we stay in Westchester for swimming training. This says everything but the food is very good. We are Manhattan residents for last few decades - so I was surprised that Westchester has this good dim sum place. The best dish I loved from this restaurant is Peking Duck. Very tasty inside and crispy outside. With a good sauce, cucumber, scallion, and soft bun, we really really enjoyed. I think the price of peking duck is reasonable here. so we will drive for this again. I love peking duck at top hotels in Hong Kong and at china kitchen in Hyatt Regency New Delhi- but they are much more expensive. This peking duck here is as tasty as the top hotels but inexpensive. Our ratings are as follows, Peking Duck - AMAZING Crepe shrimp - Great Shrimp crystal dumpling -Great Pork dumpling (recommend fried, not steamed) -Great Soup dumpling - okay Custard bun- okay Egg drop soup - we were not crazy about They charge tea at $2! which I never saw in Chinatown. The steamed juicy dumplings were so good especially with the chili paste on top. The spring rolls were good but they could use more filling and flavor. I loved the shrimp lo mein- I had some for lunch the next day. They serve tea complimentary which is great. You actually have to know the location of this restaurant otherwise you wouldn't know it exists. Service is that of any Asian restaurant- quick and straight to the point. My husband and I love getting dim sum at Aberdeen - the soup dumplings, shu mai, and noodle crepes are some of the best we've had in Westchester County. I recommend sticking to the dim sum and house specials, we've tried a lot of other items on the menu (chicken and broccoli, wonton soup, roast pork with mixed veggies) and they don't stack up! They stop serving dim sum at 7:30 pm. Aberdeen is located in the lobby of the Residence Inn - you'll see the entrance on the left hand side when you enter the hotel lobby. Pretty decent dim sum! I would actually say that this is the best dim sum around Westchester. I was very pleasantly surprised and did not have very high hopes after trying a few other dim sum places in the area. However, the flavor of all the food was quite on point. I would agree that some of the serving sizes could have been larger but even considering such, I would choose to go back to Aberdeen before other dim sum restaurants in the area. I was a little confused at first trying to find the restaurant; however, as you continue to approach the Mariott entrance, there is a sign for Aberdeen as well. Ok so let's start by saying I was desperate. I needed dim sum in my life and I didn't want to trek to Flushing Queens or Chinatown to get take out. So I found this place. Convenient not too far & no toll. I get there & I find out its in the Marriott building, that's fine there's plenty of parking meters. Now these guys are only doing take out like most restaurants right now & there's a line, so that's good, except that everybody on the line isn't Asian. Why does this alarm me? Because there's often a difference between the food served to Asians in a Chinese restaurant compared to "Americans", and I wanted authentic dim sum. Ordering online was easy enough, they don't have a lot of variety but they have the basics. Their prices are steep, depending on the dish your paying nearly $2 per piece of dim sum, but hey that's fine if the food & service is worth it. I excitedly waited 30 mins then frustrating waited another 30 for my order. Most people there did the same. When I got the order I asked if all the dim sum sauces were in the bag, & the girl yes. So off I went. Only to get home & realize there was 1 tiny dim sum sauce & the rest were Chinese take out soy sauce packets. Noooooo you can't have dim sum without dim sum sauces people! It kills the experience. Moving right along, one of my faves, the chive dumpling, full of oil. Nobody likes oily dim sum, next the pieces are so much smaller than regular dim sum, like it was made with baby hands? Cmon, if your gonna charge me $63 for 8 dim sum plates, do it right! This place is hidden inside a hotel. Parking is free inside the hotel lot, but you need to get your ticket validated. You really need a reservation if you are coming here during prime dim sum on the weekends. My sister's and I reserved for the earliest possible (as soon as they open) and within 15 minutes this place was almost completely packed. We tried the beef rice roll, some egg rolls, shu Mai, egg custards and spare ribs amongst the offerings. Offerings are limited compared to what you'd find in NYC, but decent for the area. Everything tasted ok, but the staff was very accommodating. They brought us dishes not on the menu if they could make it for us. Specifically meatless items. They do charge for tea, so ensure you all drinking because it's by the person not the cup. read more

Once, years back, Aberdeen was our go-to place for special times and especially their amazingly good dim sum. We hadn't been back for a while and now we're sorry we went back at all... Lots of surprises, most not especially welcome. The room looks more tired than we remembered, tables separated by especially tacky plastic partitions. COVID has been a costly hell for lots of places so I credit Aberdeen for trying. I just wish this up-scale eatery had tried a bit harder.... They seem to have forgotten that looks and presentation are a huge part of a meal, sometimes even more important than the food. There's no longer a menu, just a QR code to be scanned with a cell phone. (I assume there are still people without phones in their pockets but I have no idea what they might do here....) Using my phone means there's no waiter to let me know about today's specials or explain the contents of mystery dishes. It's as impersonal as "dining" at Pizza Hut and they sure ain't charging Pizza Hut prices.... Sadly there are no carts weaving through the room offering little plates of dim sum with their ever-changing smells and sights. And explanations. Just a faceless, mindless QR code. That wasn't an auspicious beginning.... I was sure the wonderful food would make up for all my quibbles. Surely the food, we thought.... No, not that either. Like the room, nothing sparkled, nothing stood out, nothing was better than simply okay. I can't think of a single dish I would want to eat again. And despite tiny portions, I can't think of any that I wanted to finish. So we ate quickly and hurried home. We both went for the Rolaids and tried to forget the afternoon. We won't be back.... Note this is a pre-pandemic review and I am not your average Chinese restaurant patron from Westchester. We came here about 3 years ago when we first moved from the city and had our first cravings for dim sum on a weekend. At the time, it was the only place I found to have dim sum on Yelp of driving distance from where we are. We excitedly pulled up to the front of the hotel and was a bit puzzled as to where the restaurant entrance was. It was only in the helpful Yelp photos did I find that I was standing right in front of the door. It was a like a stainless steel meat freezer door without a window that we could peer in to tell we were at the right place. This was pre-pandemic days and we were seated after a short 10 minute wait. We were excited to see our usual dim sum favorites on the menu but with at a premium "scarcity" price. Everything was about $1-$2 more than we would usually pay for at a dim sum place in the boroughs. There was one or two carts but they were parked off to the side. We ordered everything but nothing really stood out. At the end of the day, we were half-full while paying more than full price for dim sum brunch. We regretted not driving the extra half hour to Flushing to get dim sum but alas, lesson learned. The food hear is by no means bad; it's actually good overall. For the cost, I would rather drive into Queens to satisfy a craving. read more

Came back for dinner @ Aberdeen...we usually come for dim sum. Best to make reservation in advance especially during the busy season. During the winter, I called to make a same day reservation. I was told they usually reservations 24 hours in advance...however they would be able to accommodate our party of 6 at 7pm. Whew! Glad they were as it was a long drive back from upstate. It was not very busy when we were there but I found the service to be quite attentive and helpful. The ordering process, being done on your phone or on the tablet they provide was kind of confusing but the waiter was very helpful. The food was excellent. Unfortunately I can't remember everything I had but it was all good. My main was the shrimp with walnuts. Excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to CT a couple years ago, and finding good dim sum outside of NYC has been incredibly challenging. Stumbled on Aberdeen Seafood and Dim Sum in my search. I had to read and re-read the reviews because it's a 90-minute one way drive and half day commitment to White Plains. We made reservations for opening time at 12pm on a Saturday in December and there was already a large group of people waiting at the Marriott lobby. First of all, the restaurant is so clean! Service was great, ordering via mobile from our table was easy and delivery of dim sum to our table was fast. Most important of all, the dim sum was legit, having grown up eating dim sum regularly in SF's Chinatown. Icing on the cake: no MSG hangover! We spent another $120 on takeout dim sum and we're already planning our next trip back. read more

Aberdeen is something of an institution, if you wanted Dim Sum it was one of the very few places in Westchester where you could get it and honestly it WAS good! However, that's the sad point... it WAS good and it just isn't as good as it used to be. The restaurant took a big hit during Covid like many restaurants across the area did. Aberdeen probably took something of a bigger hit because it a) doesn't have much of a presence street wise (it's a bit hidden off the lobby of the Marriott Residence Inn) and b) it's a Chinese restaurant that was very popular with Chinese and sadly there was a lot of ill will directed to Chinese during Covid. I even went there recently just because I was down in White Plains regularly for a few weeks and the sad truth is that the quality of the food has definitely diminished. I don't know if they changed hands or not. Maybe it's just a question of having a business a long time and no longer having that drive but Aberdeen now pales by comparison to the restaurant it had been. Portions are smaller, prices are higher, they no longer bother with menus - so they can change pricing more easily? Overall I'm even saddened to write this. I turned on people I know to it and they came away carping about it being expensive but the capper was being charged for tea. Used to be they bought out tea as part of the meal and they will ask you if you want tea. They won't tell you though that you're getting charged for it. read more

I have eaten dim sum in China, NYC, San Francisco and many other places - so my frame of reference is pretty wide and my expectations are pretty fair. Overall, the dim sum was OK. The staff was very attentive and any server will work quickly to get you what you need, including the host/manager. One really high point was that the chicken feet were too good, so I couldn't get to the picture until I ate some. They were the star of the show. Vegetable dumplings and shrimp dumplings were fairly bland and fell apart when picked up. Shrimp shumai were par for the course. We got xia long bao and had to ask for vinegar. The vinegar tasted like it was mixed with grenadine, a very cherry flavor. There was also no mini-spoon for the vinegar. Not a fan. The xia long bao also didn't have much soup in them, like they dried out a little, but they were hot and tasted good. Also got bok choi, flat beef noodles, and steamed pork buns. All par for the course. Service here was good and attentive and we were seated quickly at 1:30pm on a Sunday. They will validate your parking ticket if you use the hotel's paid lot. After validation, you can use that ticket in the machine to lift the gate - no attendant is needed. To get in the restaurant, you need to go inside the hotel entrance and make a quick turn to the left. There is no dedicated street entrance. The door in the hotel almost makes it look closed. The hours are posted on it and it looks like a fire door. Happy to go back here if it's close. It's a toss-up between Aberdeen and Central Seafood in Hartsdale for dim sum. read more

Like many new eateries I discover, I stumbled upon Aberdeen on Yelp. They had a high number of reviews (for a Westchester restaurant) with a 4 star average, and many Yelpers mentioned this is the closest you'll get to the real deal outside of Manhattan or Flushing. That was good enough for me to bookmark; last night I had the opportunity to check this place out with one of my brothers. Aberdeen might be easy to miss if you don't keep your eyes peeled - it's located on the first floor of the Residence Inn/Marriott. Walking into the main lobby of the hotel, hook a left and you'll see a metallic door (my brother described it as looking like a large fridge door =). Once inside, you're greeted by a fairly large dining space. The decor is modest with a few pieces on the wall and a muted color scheme. The floors are carpeted but everything looked very well kept. There was also an unexpected peace and quiet tone to the restaurant which I liked; I found myself talking in an almost whisper tone - it just felt natural. I came here for the dim sum, but I wanted to explore the rest of the menu too. There's a lot, but it's nicely organized so I didn't feel overwhelmed. We decided to start with a dim sum combination and some cold sesame noodles. The dim sum were very good - I'm no connoisseur of Asian cuisine, but they were fresh and full of flavor. We also got a nice variety - shrimp, pork, chicken, and veggie mmmm; they were served with this hot oil which really added a nice kick to them. The sesame noodles were excellent - usually Chinese takeout places will glob some sort of peanut butter concoction on the noodles which makes for a heavy dish. These however were super light - the noodles had an almost springy quality to them and the sauce wasn't heavy at all; it had a light peanut flavor without tasting like peanut butter - a total win. For my main I had one of the house specials - crispy shrimp and broccoli with honey walnuts. The shrimp were large which I liked, and the dish had good flavor with a nice amount of candied walnuts. I wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce however - it was cream-based and I was expecting something a little lighter and sweeter. No fault to the restaurant though - I blame myself for not being familiar with the dish. Service was good, they were on top of everything, friendly, and service was prompt. Good experience here overall; while I'm not one to talk to about what authentic Asian cuisine is, the food here at Aberdeen is tasty and I would have no qualms about returning to ordering takeout from them in the future. read more

They gave us a beeper and asked us to wait until all reservation customers were seated which made sense and was reasonable. After 45 mins I saw quite a few tables were still available. But the receptionist refused to seat us and her face was so cold. She didn't even give you a glance ...... Very disappointed and would not be there again. One of the better Chinese restaurants I've been to lately. Just know that this restaurant is in a hotel. I didn't realize so I was looking for a storefront. We ordered both shrimp & roast pork noodle crepe dim sum and both were delicious. We had orange beef which was quite tasty but my favorite was the Peking duck that was prepared perfectly. This place is a real eye sore when you walk in ... It's in the hotel lobby, showing it's age with random storage areas about the restaurant. I can see this place being a real looker in the 90s. With that said, the food was superb. Owner spends the money on food quality and prep. Dim Sum combo: range of dumplings from veggie to pork. One was better than than the other. Seasoning and fresh ingredients get the job done. I'd want to return for lunch and really get my dim sum on! Again, the streamers are a bit old looking and the leaf it was presented on wasn't appealing. All this mean poppycock once you bite into any of the Dim Sum options for the combo! Soooo yummy! Duck was perfectly cooked with a crispy skin on top of tender, savory dark meat. I wish it was served hotter with a bit more of the fat rendered. Served over strange crisps. I'd prefer it over something else (surprise but I have no problem with new experiences. Oh, free parking in the hotel lot so get your ticket validated when paying your bill. My DC described our dinner as "exceptional" - and he was right! The Pan Fried Dumplings, the best we've ever had. The Fried Dough Noodle Crepe, new to us, was a sweet treat. The Crispy Shrimp with Honeyed Walnuts came with broccoli. This is a dish that I love, and I was excited to see it available! The String Beans Szechuan was also excellent. Unusual location for sure, decor not exactly warm but the food does make up for it. Always surprised of how good it really is as your sitting there not thrilled with the ambiance.
