But I realized they say the personal is 5" x 8" and that can't be true because the box doesn't even measure more than 8" Seemed more like a 4" x 6" pie. Went to have a pizza. The piazza was not anything special. It was a little spicy but this was not indicated on the menu. The bill indicated that an 18% service charge is included. I assume it was a tip. When I went to pay on the tablet provided by the restaurant I was asked if I want to add a tip. Tourists who are not familiar with customs here will assume that they have to add a tip. This is a ripoff. Look at your bill and then decide if you want to add an additional tip. read more

We had a nice casual dinner here on a Sunday night. Small place but we got a table. I would say it was about 3/4 full. Pizza is nice. Are you a tourist hoping to enjoy a good meal while entertaining a four-year-old at the Rockefeller Center? I'd highly recommend Ace's Pizza, a quick casual pizzeria in the bowels of 30 Rock. I went for a late lunch with my mom and son before a planned outing to F.A.O. Schwarz. We thought there would be more options, but the dining area was this weird underground hallway that didn't seem to attract many customers. Ace's was the only spot with any real Yelp presence, and since pizza seemed like a good idea, we went straight there. There were two spaces across the hall from each other, one for dine-in and one for take-out. We went to the side with table service, and the guy running the place was very welcoming. It was a small room with just a handful of tables and a close, comfortable pizzeria vibe. Ace's does offer thin crust pizza if you're getting a whole pie, but the place seems to specialize in Detroit style square pizza, which you can get in more sizes, including the personal 5" x 8" size, cut into two slices. We got two of these plus a sandwich, and it was more than enough food. The pizza was substantial and flavorful, bready in a good way, crispy at the edges, fresh and warm with quality cheese and sauce. We got two cheese pizzas, which isn't the move unless you have a small child and an adult who doesn't eat pork, but both were great. The cheese was simple and satisfying, with Ace's special cheese blend and zesty tomato sauce. The hot burrata was an excellent grown-up cheese pizza, with Ace's cheese blend, tomato sauce, burrata, Calabrian chili, and basil. The best thing we got, though, was the spicy chicken parm sandwich. This was absolutely delicious, a crusty roll loaded with chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, Calabrian chili, basil, and hot honey. Everything came with pickled pepperoncini, which were nice and spicy and well matched to the heavy carbs. My kid didn't eat a bite (Detroit style didn't read as pizza to him) but my mom and I were happy with the meal we specifically chose to accommodate his preferences. That spicy chicken parm was pretty remarkable. I'd burrow back under 30 Rock to get that again. read more

WOW! The best pizza I've ever had in my life! I came here after doing a tour at Radio City in New York. You have to check this place out for Detroit style pizza if you're around the area. The dough is soft and fluffy while the outside layer is toasted. They give you a generous amount of pepperoni on each slice. One downside is the pizza has too much grease. It is pretty expensive for a slice, but it's worth a try! 10/10 pizza that I'd definitely get when I'm in New York. read more

My friend and I decided to stop in for a snack and split the personal pizza. Pizzas are made to order so expect to wait about 10 minutes or so for yours to be ready. Good pizza in retro environs. For an eighties kid like me, this ticks some boxes: wood paneling on the wall like your uncle's house, throwback music on the speakers, 'Duck Hunt' on an 8-bit Nintendo in the corner. But don't forget, we're here for pizza. Right. It's good. It's not my preferred style, but the ingredients are quality and it's clearly done with care. If you're old enough to remember Pizza Hut, you'll probably love it. Think bright Neapolitan (read: uncooked) sauce, quality cheese, loose dough that's crunchy on the bottom and wet on top. (This is not a dig. Pizza Hut made a fortune taking Detroit-style pizza to the big time. It was yummy and affordable and you could get a pizza for free if you read a few books over the summer. Which company is using its multi-national dominance to promote reading today? Oh, right. None of them.) It's also got the cupped pepperonis that everyone has suddenly decided are "authentic" (they're not), but that's ok. There are three locations for this place. We happened to be near Rock Center, so I can only vouch for the service there being speedy and pleasant--but I would assume the best of the other two. The service not good and the food was ok. My family wanted to eat here. However, I have a gluten allergy they could not accommodate. So I ordered a gluten free meal from around the corner and brought it back to the table to eat. I was told no outside food was allowed. So I had to get up and go eat outside and not sit with my family. Because they couldn't accommodate my gluten allergy. They also charge 18% tip without communicating that. My family was not planning on tipping due to the service provided and the fact that I couldn't eat inside with them. My family said the pizza was "fine, good, and ok." read more

Saw the pics of their pizza online and I was immediately interested in trying it! Finally got around to doing so a couple of days ago and I gotta say that I wasn't, unfortunately, super impressed. Ordered and Medium pepperoni. $21 and change including tax. I feel it's a bit pricy, but, hey, it's 2024 and it's midtown in a touristy area, whatever. They give you a pager and you wait while they make your pizza. It looked VERY good. To be fair, I did not eat it there. I walked it back to work (a block away). It was super cold that day, the pizza was cool by the time I got around to eat it. By the time I was 1/2 way through it, I started to regret my choice of pepperoni. Felt it was VERY salty. The texture was easily a 3/5 for me (even when it wasn't piping hot). I personally really like "Sicilian Pizza" when it is fluffy with a hint of chewiness... Ace's is NOT that. Their establishment is divided into two little stores spaces across the hall from one another. They cook and hand you your order in one and the dining area is in the other. It all looked pretty clean and the service was what you'd expect from a typical NYC pizzeria. I will definitely be trying out their plain pizza and I will try to have it while it is hot to give it a fair shot. Will update this review then. read more

Tried Ace's last week since they opened up a location close by my office. I'm not usually too in love with Detroit style pizza but figured I'd give this a whirl since many pizza critics give it their stamp of approval. I ordered their personal cheese and pepperoni pies for delivery. It arrived fresh and hot in a cute box decorated with spades. Gotta keep the card theme going. The one thing I noticed when I opened the boxes is that they bake extra cheese around the crust. It gives it an extra crunch and extra burst of flavor. That being said, I started off with their cheese pie, which has pretty equal parts sauce and cheese. However, the cheese flavor REALLY hits you here, since they use a special blend and bake extra cheese around the crust. If you're a cheese lover, this will be heaven for you. Normally, I am a fan of a cheesier slice, but this was a little much for me. I tried the pepperoni next and this was definitely the winner in my eyes. The meaty and spicy pepperoni complemented the sauce and cheese extremely well. The crust was crunchy but had a bit of chewiness to it as well. I'll definitely order the pepperoni pie from Ace's again. Can't believe I'm a Detroit style pizza fan now. read more

Tomatoey vodka sauce is a canvas for a BEAUTIFUL cheese pull, decorated with tender meatballs, a fine garnish of herbs for an extra layer of flavor, and generous areas of ricotta cheese piped on top. I don't love ricotta cheese but it was the perfect complement to the salty cheese, adding creaminess and neutrality before your next beautiful bite. HOT BURRATA You can't go wrong with burrata cheese with a FAT basil leaf right on top over a pretty damn cheesy slice as well, and a pool of hot marinara for a nice little kick. SUPREME My least favorite of the 3 because it's just such a basic pizza flavor like please do yourself a favor and order something interesting for them to showcase their craftsmanship. yes, it was good. I know many consider it blasphemy to get Detroit pizza in NYC but people need to just lighten up. Great pizza is great pizza. Just pretend it's an upside down Sicilian (only better). The crust is nice and crunchy and airy on the bottom, the skirt of caramelized cheese around the edge is insanely good, and the sauce and cheese is flavorful. Good pepperoni as well. The personal size is perfect, can even split it for a decent lunch with someone; and you have the added bonus of each piece having 6 sides to maximize the crunchy edge goodness. It is on the ice rink level of 30 Rock so not super easy to find but it's worth it. There is very limited seating inside but there is additional seating way down the hall toward 6th Ave and down a few stairs that nobody seems to know about so it's usually not too crowded. read more

I was in NYC staying nearby at the Warwick on 54th and 6th and was in the mood for Detroit style pizza. I was pleasantly surprised to find Ace's nearby at 49th in the lower level of the Rockefeller Plaza. I was able to place my order online and it was ready to go when I arrived. They offer single size (2 slices) medium (4 slices) and large (8 slices). I purchased two different singles pepperoni with mushroom (extra) and vodka meatball, both outstanding. I saved a slice for a future snack in my hotel fridge. If you like Detroit style and are in midtown I'd highly recommend Aces. It's a little tricky to find but I have always found NYers to be helpful and they pointed me in the right direction. read more
