I visited the Mitchel Park Library on 23/08/2024 and visited the community centre ADA cafe for a small cup of coffee at around 12.45 pm and the counter clerk asked me to pay 23.50 dollars for only a small cup of coffee and as I was not aware of the price of the coffee I paid the amount and later on realised that i am cheated by the counter clerk. I sent several complaints on 24/08/2024 and no answers I got. The counter clerk has made wrong billing of some one's eats in my account. I am a senior citizen an I am cheated like this. Are you guys still open? Ada's has the most fantastic muffins of almost anywhere in the area (it's basically Ada's and Cafe Borrone competing for best muffins and coffee!). This cafe has the most amazing and caring people! My son had fell and bumped his head at a park nearby. I walked into this cafe hoping to get ice and pay for it for my son. The kind gentleman made an ice pack for my son without any hesitation or questions. I tried to pay him but he would not take my money. Excellent home made carrot ginger soup! I feel the food is fresh and made with conscious intention/love, which is actually very rare these days when it comes to affordable eateries. I only took a star off due to the size of the cafe (tiny!) and it feels a bit claustrophobic. The decor is modern and aesthetically appealing but since it is adjacent to a public library/community center lots of kids were crawling over the place and it was noisy. Not a quiet place to work/study. Also, to be fair, I should deduct another star for the lack in acceptable vegetarian options, which other than the soup, was a tomato mozzarella sandwich and a salad they were out of that day. This is a major area of opportunity, which I think they could easily rectify and satisfy more customers. read more

I suspect a lot of the reviewers are inflating the reviews of Ada's Cafe as they get the warm, fuzzy feeling from supporting a nonprofit that provides employment for people with disabilities. It's certainly a good cause, but from a simple assessment of food and service quality is nowhere worthy of it's 4.5* rating, especially for a place that sells expensive sandwiches (This should be two $, not one $). My experience with ordering 2 sandwiches follows: 1. Attempt to order a standard sandwich off the menu that cost over $12. Told the meat is not in stock. Ask for a substitute. 2. Attempt to order a soup of the day. Sorry, no soup stocked today! 3. Wait a bit. 4. Receive sandwiches; find one missing ingredients. Request a new one (cafe was kind enough to take it back and give us a new one in ample time) 5. Consume sandwiches. "Bland" in all regards - about the quality of a Safeway sandwich (which costs 1/3 as much). The quality of the bread is especially disappointing, especially given the high price tag. The francese roll tastes like a McDonalds bun. The dutch crunch is oily and not crunchy. 6. Walk away having no clue how this place has such high aggregate reviews. The one and two star reviews here, however, align well with my own experience. While I'm never going to go here again (1 star), I'll give a bonus star for being willing to make corrections and for serving a good cause. read more

This is one of those occasions where you plan to go the library, but never actually make it inside! I had a couple hours to spare before meeting friends and wanted to squeeze some work in- found this little gem while looking for the entrance to the library. Really not that complicated- just easily distracted by food. Great place to eat if you work up an appetite studying (in that library- ha) everything's here is locally sourced and Eco- conscious. This includes the honey at the condiments stand and compostable to - go cups. Fresh baked goods from a local bakery. I tried there roasted plum streusel muffin and it was Ah-may- zing! Not too sweet, a little chewy, and lots of warm tart plums inside. They also had hot cider which to my pleasant surprise was not just a hot cup of apple juice, but actual spiced cider. Ada- whoever you see- wherever you are - you've won me over with this alone. The staff is friendly, helpful, and do a good job keeping the seating area clean. A downside is that prices aren't listed- except for s few items like pre-made sandwiches and parfaits. Kudos to the City of Palo Alto for choosing Ada's Cafe to be the food vendor for the Palo Alto Mitchell Park Library. Ada's Cafe is notable for both their great tasting cafe food but also for their organizational mission of supporting and employing those with physical and mental disabilities. I first sampled Ada's at the Grand Opening of Mitchell Park Library where they were handing out free samples of cookies and their excellent coffee. I was glad to return. The cafe has a warm and intimate ambiance with several tables inside and a few more outside. Service is super friendly and the menu encompasses drinks (juice, coffee, teas) as well as soups, salads, and sandwiches. My order: Bowl of Chili - a very generous portion of chili was served with three metal containers of condiments: finely diced onions, grated cheese, and sour cream. Flavor was great and nice chunks of beef were hot and easily melted the cheese and cooked the onions. Great bowl of chili. Pomegranate Lemonade - tart, refreshing and not overly sweet. Great lemonade. Steak Sandwich - another generous portion of sliced flank steak on a warm panini bread with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. Overall, a great addition to the area and a welcome choice for the library. The service and staff make the place but it's nice to see the food is good too. I LOVE the fact that they provide job opportunities to people with disabilities. I always make sure I tip them extra even if I'm just getting a bottled water. It's right next to the library and they share an overpass of sorts. The place is small with some space inside and more patio space outside. It's good for a relaxing afternoon and such. The staff is friendly and sweet. It's apparently a nonprofit providing work for those with disabilities or really empowering them, which is really nice. I asked for the menu after trying to find the prices for their sandwiches and they said to just ask the staff at the register. When I wanted all of them, they just said it's the same price at around $12, but then someone said that some sandwich was only $10 or something. Um.. okay, I don't think that's that difficult to list it on the board or have a menu. I ended up getting a biscuit with ham and cheese that had the price listed. So the bakery goods usually have price tags apparently. It was very good and soft and delicious, but also pricey at $4. I think it's more than what Starbucks charges. So good food, good people, good outdoor seating, but I'd like price transparency. It just feels unusual when I have to ask, since it leave open room for price discrimination. read more

If you're a fan of award winning chili or a wonderful place for studying / reading, Ada's Cafe is the place to go. The white chicken chili was excellent. Although I was only able to have half a bowl, I wish I could've gone earlier before they ran out so quickly! The service was impeccable as they issued me a return since my food was only half of the original bowl. They even added on a toast of warm bread and a side of melted butter. Such great service! The mission of this cafe is just another plus: to employ special needs teens. Always warms my heart to hear such sweet and polite greetings at the door. The close proximity to the library is a benefit as well and the cushioned comfortable seating in the corner table makes this cafe my new place to work. read more
