Pitifully slow. Came here two hours before a show and had to leave after just a few bites of dinner because of how insanely long it took then to do anything. If it's going to be an hour+ wait from when you order until when you get your food because "the kitchen is backed up", that needs to be communicated immediately. This isn't the type of high-end sit down place you should expect to spend multiple hours at, yet it's operating that way. Awful. read more

Delicious food, but slightly overpriced. Highly recommend the enchiladas and the beans/rice are so good. The Elote was fine, and I wouldn't recommend it over some other elotes in Tucson. The service was spot on -- lots of employees, great attention. We loved the space, and the remodeling was inviting. I had a late dinner here yesterday with a friend. I ordered a pork pibil taco plate and tasted my friend's pastel de elote. I liked the tacos; the rice and beans were OK but arrived only lukewarm. My friend liked her pastel, but it didn't impress me. I was charged $16 for the taco plate, but the menu price was $15. I pointed this out and they subtracted a dollar from the bill. They need to fix this; it's not legal to charge more than the advertised price. Service was OK. The music was way too loud. read more

I don't hand out 5 stars easily but when they hit the trifecta of restaurant sweet spots-excellent customer service, amazing food, and a vibrant atmosphere (without being too loud), it's easy to give them 5. Also, in my party of 6 we got an array of food with everyone totally loving their dishes...I got the green chicken enchilada plate w charro beans and rice. Soooo delicious and fresh tasting-their green sauce they top the enchiladas with is zesty and fresh-the bomb! I don't usually go for stacked enchiladas as I prefer rolled, but these were as good if not better than any rolled I've had so they made a believer out of me. The beans and rice were both fantastic too, and I've lived in New Mexico where they also do their pintos whole so I'm picky about those as well. I also got to try the pulled pork rice bowl and will order that when I'm craving that shreddy, spicy fresh taste (with the red onion). Highly recommend the cucumber appetizer plate as well. Get the trio of salsa for the chips alone (the salsas are all superb as well). And the guacamole was perfectly spiced and fresh tasting. I saw an earlier review that it wasn't great but I tried it anyway and I'm glad I did as it was the best I've tasted in Tucson! Did I mention their drinks?? I had a mango margarita where you could really taste the mango puree without it being overly sweet. I also got a taste of the prickly pear marg the adorable server recommended to my friend. I liked hers even better than mine as, again, it tasted fresh and true to the fruit and it wasn't too sweet. This waitress was so helpful and friendly-just loved and trusted her recommendations as they all turned out to be perfect. My other friend got the coco loco-also divine. Next time I will be trying their quesobirria tacos my friend raved about. I didn't taste the salad but you can see from the pic it's gorgeous, fresh like everything else, and the dressing was perfect (which I did taste). So glad they didn't pack the place with small tables like the last restaurant in that space did (that made it way too loud) and created a fun environment with a bar to sit at and some tables near TVs for those who want to watch a game but it's not overtaking the restaurant. This place deserves 5 stars and I will be back to experience more of its masterful, modern creations of Mexican cuisine! read more

Decided to check this place out before a show at Centennial Hall and it was awesome! The hostess was great - got us a table even though it was a busy Friday night and we didn't have a reservation. The atmosphere was very beautiful - the only drawback was it's pretty loud due to the way things are arranged but it wasn't detrimental to the experience at all. Our waitress was awesome and checked on us often despite having tables inside and on the patio. The food was delicious and the portion sizes are very generous! Ordered the queso with grilled nopales and the chips & salas trio. Just a heads up - the house salsa is not spicy at all so if you are looking for any heat...pick something with a chili next to its name on the menu. For main dish we had the Chicken Adobo Burrito Bowl and Green Enchiladas (not pictured) - both were well presented and delicious. Overall it was a nice place for timely service, good food, and beautiful ambiance - I'll be back again and again! read more

Was in Tucson for a business trip and came across this gem. I would give the restaurant 5 stars for the food - they offer interesting vegetarian options and the salsas are on point. The service is the reason for 4 stars - our entrees arrived before our starter and drinks. So very strange - how often do entrees get prepped ahead of non-alcoholic drinks and a salsa trio? Being the newest thing in Tucson, Agave House is really hyped up. It didn't live up to the hype, unfortunately. It wasn't bad, but just very mediocre. They have a lot of room for improvement. The most redeeming quality was that the waitstaff were very attentive and friendly. I started with the Coco Loco cocktail. It tasted like pure tequila and was not well balanced at all. Based on the description, I thought it would be like a tropical, creamy paradise. It was so strong that it actually stung my gums. The cocktails here are pretty pricey compared to other restaurants in the main gate area, so I was expecting it to be a lot better for the money I was paying. It hit me pretty hard too; after just that one short cocktail I was decently buzzed. My guess is that the bartender probably poured a double. For my meal I ordered the 2 taco combo. You are able to select 2 different tacos if you want, which I like. I had the quesabirria and the pork pibil. Neither were very good. The quesabirria did not have any cheese in it (or so little that it was undetectable), and was also very greasy. It left grease all over my plate, and made a mess. The pork pibil was flavorless. The tenderness and moisture were good, but it lacked the bold seasoning you'd expect from Mexican food. The charro beans were ok; again they could use a little more seasoning. I added the green salsa to them, and that made them taste a lot better. I will say that the rice and consomé were delicious. The rice was tender but not mushy, well-seasoned, and would be a great accompaniment to better mains. The consomé was also good and had a rich marrowy flavor to it. As far as the remodel goes, the downstairs space feels a lot more closed in and smaller than it used to. I did not go upstairs. I guess after hours it turns into more of a bar scene, but I think that would make it pretty cramped. Overall, they just opened and I believe they're still trying to work things out. I would be willing to check it back out in a few months after they've worked out the kinks and made some improvements. read more

I wish you could give half ratings because I'd give this a solid 3.5. Went here on a Friday for happy hour with a few friends. The waitress was really nice and attentive. We ordered some drinks and a few appetizers. My friends ordered a coconut drink from their cocktail menu and house margarita and enjoyed them. I ordered a mojito that's on their cocktail menu and it was horrible. I sent it back and just ordered a Moscow mule. It was very "limey" and had almost no ginger beer whatsoever, I'd actually be surprised if there was any in there. I think the bartenders need a little more practice making drinks. The food was the highlight. Queso was really yummy but we asked for more tortillas because it's a huge portion! It's definitely not your typical liquid type queso, which was great and delicious. Guac was really nice and the flautas were good as well. Nothing spectacular but enjoyed all of our dishes. The one thing that really made the experience a bit of a bummer was the temperature. It was pretty warm inside the restaurant when we went and we did say something to our waitress. She told us that one of their AC units was out and they couldn't get the inside temperature below like 81° and it was 108 outside so it was hard to cool down. We probably would've stayed for another drink if the temperature was cooler! I'd try this place again in a few months after they work out some kinks. read more

Food was excellent. The tuna appetizer was very good as was the guacamole. Everyone really enjoyed their entrees and they were able to make requested changes for a member in our party that's a little picky. Margarita was very good and perfect size and alcohol amount. The only reason I took a star off is the temperature in the restaurant. I don't know if the AC was broken (they didn't say anything) but it felt like 90 degrees in there. We were all sweating by the time we left. Service was very good. No idea how they were so nice and helpful running around in that heat. I'd go back again but probably not until November! read more

The service was top notch! Kelsie was so knowledgeably and kind. She made some very insightful recommendations. I had the strawberry lemonade cocktail. It was fresh and so tasty! We started with the flautas. It's the first time I've had flautas not rolled and i will admit i am a fan! Then i ordered the chicken tacos, with beans and rice. So good!! Great flavor and good size meal! We had pastel de elote for dessert and it is a game changer! I have never had anything like it before but i will be back for it. Its hard to describe- but i would say it's like a light corn cheesecake. We had it drizzled with honey. The ambiance is great too. I love the huge art on the patio. Gorgeous restaurant inside....light, airy and tastefully decorated. A tad modern and very clean. Taco plate was full of flavor and they give you plenty of food. Absolutely delicious! We decided to try this place for Sonoran Restaurant week and it did not disappoint. For drinks we had the El Jardín, which was super flavorful, the Nixta Sour which had a nice smoky flavor to it and my son had the horchata which did not upset his stomach like others do. We went on a Friday night so there were quite a few students there but the servers were friendly, kind and the whole place had a good vibe to it. Our entrees were the carne asada tacos, green Chile enchiladas and salmon tacos. Appetizers were the queso and Ahi Tuna. We were intrigued by the decor and overall vibe of the restaurant on top of seeing some pics on IG of this restaurant. We went for lunch. I ordered Quesabirria Tacos and my partner ordered Ceviche and Carne Asada tacos. Unfortunately, we had to send the ceviche back as the flavor was poor and the shrimp were definitely not the freshest. Without asking, we were refunded for this item, which was nice. Overall the tacos were just okay. I think my quesabirria tacos were better, but weren't super flavorful. I had to add like 6-7 lime wedges to really have any taste. The carne on the carne asada tacos also seemed reheated. I don't know that I'll go back for food, but I would be happy to go back for like drinks for happy hour. read more

Food was absolutely amazing! I would've taken photos of our entrees but we were just to excited. The ranchera asada comes out cooked to perfection and is a wonderful blend of citrus and spice. The house pork chop is this massive tomahawk steak that is sweet and savory. The rice and beans tasted very traditional and were well done. The tres leches cake slice was soft fluffy and complimented very well with the berries provided. Will also be returning for the Oaxacan old fashioned. First of all the food is very Good. Not the style of New Mexican food I love but very Good. My Wife and I had enchiladas. Mine was the green chicken, hers the red carne asada. Both are very good. I've been passing this spot for several months and decided to have lunch there last week. The atmosphere is really open and inviting. It was busy but our server handled the dining room efficiently while giving our table of newbies great options and fun banter. Jasai was super efficient and suggested great cocktails and appetizer/ plate options that allowed all of us to sample the menu without feeling neglected or hurried as the food kept coming out. I left so full and had some of the best ceviche and tacos in Tucson...very fresh and perfectly flavored! We will definitely be back and highly suggest this spot! read more

We came to try the Sonoran Restaurant week menu. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have a printed restaurant week menu, this is helpful to see the options and review them rather than just hear from the waitress. The atmosphere was casual and definitely a college vibe, which makes sense as it is located right at the U of A. I wasn't in love with the atmosphere. Our appetizers were excellent! The queso flameado was enough to fill us up alone! Lots of creamy, hot cheese, and nopales, with flour tortillas - can you say comfort food? The ahi tuna negra was fresh, and oh so perfect! It came with chunks of mango, and cilantro, and avocado, on crispy tostadas - just perfect! For our entrees we had carne asada taco plate - it would have been nice to have been given an option of corn tortillas for this, the carne was good, but we've definitely had better, and the achiote roasted chicken - the sauce was a bit thick, but it was packed with flavor, and was juicy and tasty, nicely crisped skin. For dessert we had pastel de elote - awesome! It was like a sweet corn tamale, and the tres leche cake - moist and delicious! Service was ok, our waitress was a bit slow, but the lady that helped with boxing up our food was really great, making sure she brought special containers for the beans and cheese, and laughing with us. There were tons of tables on reserve - all the booths, that was strange, it was a Tuesday night? So we couldn't walk in and sit in a booth, I'm not sure what was going on?
