I don't always seek out AYCE sushi, but Aikan is great if you're in an AYCE mood. I like Aikan for a few reasons. First off, the nigiri is reasonably sized. None of this unappetizing oversized nonsense that other places do to trick customers into believing they're receiving more value with bigger cuts of fish. Enormous sized nigiri personally gives me the ick, but here at Aikan, they keep the pieces nice and classy. Besides, the sushi is unlimited so size doesn't necessarily matter. I also see and appreciate the moderate portions which allows you to try more things. Example: the nigiri rice is appropriately sized. Rolls come in 4 to 6 pieces - perfect if you're in the mood to try different rolls. Lastly, all the sides and appetizers all kinda pop off. I loved all the green things I ordered: cucumber/seaweed salad and shishito peppers. They offer a wide of array of items to offset all the sushi. It's $42.99 for a regular adult dinner. You can of course upgrade to the premium package for $54.99 if you're feeling rich. It's the perfect place to eat when you just want to dabble in a little bit of this and that. read more

Did someone say sushi? I heard you the first time!! Ayyee! On a rainy Saturday afternoon after running errands I ran up a massive appetite. So I texted my daughter and typed, "sushi?" She replies, "lemme put on some shoes and meet you there!" Definitely craving salmon. I'll have to say yesterday, I was a practicing pescatarian (yes I finally said it!). (I'm going to age myself here: cue in the song "All You Can Eat" by the Fat Boys) Lemme tell you we went to town on the following items: mixed tempura, seaweed salad, miso soup, yellowtail and salmon cheek, agedashi tofu, Malibu roll, salmon roll, baked salmon roll, scallops, spicy tuna crispy rice, and yuzu salmon. My favs would have to be the agedashi tofu, tempura and baked salmon rolls. Yum yum and yum. But you know what took me to another level was the salmon cheek. Came out piping hot with lemon wedges and sauce. Something about that salmon cheek; I literally devoured it. The outer was fried just right with a great crunch. The only thing that made me say, eh was the crispy rice. A bit too hard and chewy. Felt like it was made a few days prior. Now don't take this as something to not try. Visited Aikan Sushi for the first time on a weeknight for dinner, and got seated immediately. I heard this place can get busy on the weekends though so be mindful of that! The sushi was very good, you can't really go wrong if you stick to ordering the stuff you like. And if you don't know what you like, it's easy to just try a little of each thing so you can order more of it on the next round! The salmon and squid were my highlights of this meal. I've found that AYCE sushi spots usually serve fish that's kinda fishy or just not that good, but I think that the quality is great considering the fact that it's AYCE. One negative with my experience is that we orders a few items for our last round to end our meal, but we were waiting for it to come for like 15 minutes when our other rounds came in less than 10. Also our last order was like 3 things and there wasn't a sudden rush of customers. So when the last items came we were literally too full to eat it because all the other food had settled but we had to eat it anyway so that we don't get charged for it. During those times, I try to put in smaller orders of nigiri so that I can make sure the sushi keeps on coming haha. Aikan is definitely one of my favorite AYCE sushi spots in SoCal. I frequented the Artesia location but am so glad there is now a Long Beach location which is closer to home for me. There is a summer offering right now for $27.99 AYCE regular lunch menu on weekdays, which is a spectacular deal. I typically get the premium for offerings like raw oyster, uni, softshell crab, jumbo scallop, toro, etc... but this deal was too great to pass up when I went this past week. Also $1 Sapporo deal if you follow them on Instagram! I typically come right when they open or off hours to avoid any wait (especially at this smaller location). The quality is good and there is a decent rice to fish ratio for being an AYCE spot. What sets Aikan apart from other local AYCE for me is their offering of fried oysters as an appetizer! No where else that I have found locally offers this. It's my favorite appetizer (that and the takoyaki which they do very well compared to other places). Otherwise, I just stick to the sushi -- favorites being the salmon and yellowtail. They also have several options of carpaccio (the closest you can get to sashimi for AYCE); these are really thin cuts, but it is AYCE so you can keep them coming. The food always comes out very fast and the staff is really on top of coming to take away your tons of plates. Smaller lot for parking at this location but I don't usually have an issue. They also have great weekday HH deals if you don't want to commit to AYCE. read more
