I'm reviewing via my multiple delivery lunch orders (Uber Eats). Their Hot Pastrami is addictive, but not the Holy Grail of Pastrami sandwiches. Close. I enjoy their sweet French bread with it. Very meaty! They aren't stingy with meat. One time I ordered their soup of the day, and I'm hooked. Tasty creamy corn and potato soup! Some days I feel like just having a sandwich, but besides a couple of sandwich chains there aren't really many sandwich places near my work. AK Subs is two blocks away, and honestly just that one place satisfies my sandwich-eating habits. Affordable prices, fast service, quality ingredients, choice of bread and some awesome sandwich combinations keeps me coming back. For $6.39, the sandwich comprised with a combination of slices of fresh roast beef, turkey, ham, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and spicy bell peppers in a toasted hoagie roll. You can get my sandwich or any customized sandwiches hot or cold. And, if your have extra money and/or extra hungry, you certainly can add extra topping(s) with your sandwich, in which I took two thick slices of bacon for additional $1.00. The sandwich is really good and the price is competitively reasonable too. Purchased separately and not including the meal, I also had a bottle of Honest Tea and a bag of Kettle Chips with my meal for extra charge. FRESH on my mind. This place is a little blue hole-in-the-wall. The exterior doesn't look too inviting so I can understand how this hot-spot can be easily looked over. The blue building seems comforting but it's the subs that come out of this join that keep their customers coming back for thirds(coined from AA). I got the "Die's Decadence" and let me tell you - I don't know who this Die person is but I could die perfectly happy after this 'wich. This sub was loaded with everything, and I mean everything. I haven't been inside AK subs in years, but my memory of having good sandwiches there led me to order delivery from them when I recently moved to South of Market (SOMA). I'm delighted to say that they still make a generous sandwich. My craving for hot pastrami was met with a still warm (after delivery) sandwich, filled to the brim with meat, Swiss cheese, and spicy mustard. AK Subs is better than Ike's. Bold? Yes. I've had both sandwich shops once and went out of my way for both of them. I don't doubt that Ike's is great, but AK blew me away. I was sick with a cold and AK penetrated through my virus and gave me a flavorful, tasty sandwich. I'd heard of AK when I worked in SOMA, but never had a chance to try it out. Fortunately, Google Deals ran a voucher deal of $5 for $10 of food and I figured it's my opportunity to try the popular sandwich shop. I will admit that their hours are a little inconvenient, as they close at 4p.m., which may or may not work for most people. Nevertheless, MapQuest led the way and we found ourselves outside AK. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but I was surprisied. I figured it would be a tiny hole in wall, but turned out to be the opposite. The shop has plenty of sitsdown space and a small bar and stool area. The menus are clear, oversized, and easy to read. AK has a large menu, with breakfast offerings, soups and salads, burgers, fish and chips, and of course sandwiches. I setteled on ordering the Die's Decadence, a turkey and swiss, served hot on my choice of bread, with avocado, mushrooms, sprouts, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and bell peppers. The order took 10 minutes or so and out come a fresh, delicious deli sandwich. The sandwich was as good as it looked, with nothing but fresh veggies, cold cut turkey and swiss, and hot, toasted bread. I was sick with a cold, but I could eastily distinguish this was no ordinary sammie. I took a bit of my friend's Sylvia's Sausage sandwich and I'm not a sausage lover, but this particular sandiwch made me a fan. The sandwiches at AK are mouth watering; the staff is courteous and friendly; and prices are affordable. Google Deals introdued me to AK and I'm definitely coming back. AK's early hours don't necessarily work for me, but I have no problem going out of my way for good food and supporting a small business. I started coming here every Thursday since I started my new job in the area, and it's kept me coming back for more! Right on the corner of 8th and Harrison, you have this wonderful hole in the wall sandwich spot. The owners here are super nice and make you feel like you're at home. My go to sandwiches here are Dies Decadence, which is essentially a turkey avocado sandwich with a bunch of delicious veggies (hot or cold), and Willy's Philly, which is AK's take on the classic Philly cheesesteak. When I worked nearby for several years, the Minions and I would often stop in, and enjoy the sandwiches and cheeseburgers (and oh...those wondrous fries!). The place is small and can easily max out during lunchtime. However if you come by either b/f or after that time, your culinary experience will be much improved (i.e. not as much competition & noise/chaos). The owner(s?) are always there and it shows in their execution of what they do. Their personalities and the customer service exhibited makes for an excellent Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y food experience. They have an imaginative sandwich board with slightly modified versions of your standards. These subtle modifications makes for some enhanced eating, to be sure. The highlight for me personally (beyond their main sammies/burgers) is definitely their fries. They sure know how to cook 'em up (the fries), and don't chinch on the quantity. Hot slightly salty delicate crunchiness. I'm startin' to drool just typing this~ Their cheeseburger is excellent. One of the best I have experienced in SF. I have enjoyed their cheeseburger many times, and the consistency & flavor shines through. You know what you're getting each time the cheeseburger is ordered. They deliver on taste! Juiciness! The experience with AK is not your average sando/burger/fries greasy spoon joint, and so don't expect to pay the average toll for the quality received there. I love this place. Since I work in the neighborhood, I've been going to AK about once every week or two for the past 6 years or so. I tend to gravitate towards Sylvia's Sausage, the Poor Sub, or the Philly Cheesesteak. They have a range of breads from which to choose, but my favorite is the hoagie because it's the softest of the lot, and I like my bread soft. I also always add pepperoncinis to my sandwich and get a beer. Their beers are pretty cheap, so I can't say no to that. The shop can get a little crowded at lunch time, but the rush seems to come in waves. I always manage to find a place to sit, but if there are more than four in your lunch group, you might wait till an off-peak time or it'll be tough to get two tables to push together for the group. Terri, who runs the register and I presume to be one of the proprietors, is really nice and makes a point to learn every customer's name, as does the main sandwich-making dude behind the counter, who later shouts out your name when your order is ready to pick up at the counter. I recommend using a two-or-more syllable version of your name because it can be a challenge to understand exactly what name is being shouted out at any given time. read more

Another find thanks this time to google. We had the pastrami. We ate it after a shopping trip to Macy's and it was fabulous.....imagine what it would have been earlier.
