    Chicken pesto sandwich
    Bethany C.

Was in the area so I went in to grab a sandwich. I got there a little before noon and the place was pretty empty when I went inside but very clean and the workers were friendly most of the sandwiches are around $11-15 and they have some grilled items as well. Got the chicken pesto which was the weekly special and brought it back home to eat. It was still warm when I got back and the sandwich was amazing! The chicken wasn't dry at all and was grilled up well. The pesto was super garlicky and delicious. It got a little messy because of the oil but well worth all the napkins. I wish I got another sandwich just so I could relive that moment again the sandwich isn't a giant sub but I'm quite satisfied with the portion. Would definitely go back to try more sandwiches from here!

Great little spot you'd never know of but they have delicious sandwiches. I was very impressed with the quality of the pastrami and how they got my order perfectly the way I wanted it. Friendly and great place will come back again.

Got to admit, this little sandwich shop tucked away on a busy SOMA corner is pretty dang good! Served hot, just like many of their sandwiches, and just the right amount of bread to meat ratio. Parking can be tricky but this is worth it.

Ordered the breakfast bagel and pastrami. Both very good. It's the type of pastrami I really like which doesn't have too much stringy fatty pieces. For any add on veggies it's like $1.10 which is pricy for a like a slice of tomato.

This is such a great place to grab lunch. I work from home and usually eat leftovers but there are times when there is no leftovers and I like to walk over to AK subs. I usually get the Philly cheesesteak and it just warms the soul. The price for the subs here is great and this place has a lot of regulars that keep on coming because of the subs and prices. The Philly costs about 13 dollars and you can't find that kind of deal in the city. They also are on doordash if it's to far to walk. I will be going back and I recommend this place to everyone who is looking for good lunch deals.

I go there once a week. Their smoothies are just too good, and the sandwiches are also pretty nice.

Ordered and walked out in the span of 10 min. Very italian deli with tiramisus and cannolis. Tons of italian snacks and puff pastries, and a convenient location to pickup anything from beers/wines to premade cannoli shells and gelato. One thing to note is you cannot customize the sandwich, not sure about the pizzas, which smelled delicious. They only make speciality sandwiches on their menu, but surely can't go wrong with any of the choices. They're packed with a sizeable amount of meat as well as greens. The half was enough to fill me up and they were kind enough to wrap them separately.

I got the Carzle and the meats are definitely the star of the show here; the brisket and pastrami were so juicy, smoky and complimented all the veggies great. However, of course, it is incredibly expensive; even sharing a half with a buddy puts you at $15 each after tip/tax. While tasty, it's a little less than expected/underwhelming for that price point. I don't see myself really coming here too often unfortunately, so many other cheaper and just as delicious eats in the city. But more than just the sandwich- the owner and all of the employees are incredibly kind and clearly care about their community. I read in another review that they saw the owner usher in a homeless man and I saw a similar act of kindness. The regulars also have a great rapport with the owner and they honestly just give GOOD VIBES. The good vibes must have been contagious because we were behind a Romanian father and his two sons who ended up paying for the older woman in front of them. Def worth the visit if you're in the area!

But when you want a sandwich that only tastes like its ingredients, Irving Subs is the spot. Their Dutch crunch is famous for being fresh and actually crunchy. Their lettuce is shredded but fresh and crispy. The salt content is just enough to bring out the flavors. And the overall composition of their sandwiches are very well proportioned. You're not getting skimped, but you're also not biting into a mouthful of a packet of deli meat. They definitely know what they are doing. Double pastrami, horseradish, havarti, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, and pepperoncini. A lot going on, and it all came together. The horseradish and havarti gave it enough personality to stand apart from a standard pastrami sandwich, and the garlicky mayo tied everything together. The one casualty of DoorDash was sogginess by the time it arrived. That's not a knock on the sandwich, it's just the reality of ordering something like this for delivery. At $14.50 it's a hearty sandwich at a fair price. I'd recommend it, but eat in.

There are other very influential sandwiches at different places in San Francisco but there is a place serving sandwiches with a Korean twist. It also is the main inspiration for a sandwich place in Brooklyn, New York called Mission Social sandwiches. It's located in the Mission District on Valencia street and it's called Rhea Deli & Market. On a Summer stroll in my old stomping grounds I landed at Rhea Deli on Valencia street. Inside you will find lots of bottles of alcohol which usually comes in handy as Rhea Market is a pit stop to load up or re-up on adult drinks to take to Dolores Park. This is the place also to get sandwiches and pair with salty chips like some in SF. They have sandwiches named after famous San Francisco Giants players like the Panda and The Freak #55 which has kimchi. I got the Buster Posey #28 and it had delicious pastrami and packed lots of flavors. It was a bit cheesy like some in SF. Don't forget to grab a bottle of your favorite drink and for me it's the Pinot Noir for Don Juan Pinot Noir and head towards Dolores Park.
