The shrimp tempura roll was mostly rice with a tiny piece of shrimp that tasted like it had been fried in old oil. The Lion King roll had a strong fishy smell and taste, which was surprising (and concerning) for a baked salmon roll. On top of that, neither roll was cut all the way through--something that seems pretty basic for a sushi restaurant. The only saving grace? Got the food via DoorDash so this is only a food review and it's very average, uneventful and nothing to write home about kind of average flavor. The miso soup is on the light side of flavor, the baked roll Samurai has spicy crab, tempura shrimp, salmon and tobiko in spicy mayo and unagi sauce, but I honestly couldn't taste a different texture of tempura shrimp or crabmeat. Writing a review based on my dine-in experience. Super small restaurant with seating for around 10-12 and street parking available. I ordered the hamachi lover and salmon roll. The rolls here are slightly cheaper than other places but the quality of fish reflects that- not the best or freshest. The rolls also had a lot of rice that wasn't cooked or seasoned well, the texture was pretty packed and mushy. Additionally, there was a bone in the hamachi. We also asked the waiter if we could order the godzilla roll (dinner menu exclusive) and he said it was fine. It wasn't until we received all of our food when he came back to us and said they couldn't make the roll. Picked up some sushi and snacks from this food truck during the Santa Clara 4th of July Celebration event last week. The dragon sushi roll (minus avocado) and spicy tuna roll were pretty good, the latter not very spicy, but it was fine. I'm a firm believer that "you get what you pay for." And while many of the folks i've rolled to lunch with think this place is pricey--I'd say its 100% worth it. My only gripe was that there was a hair in my poke-bowl.... and it kind of threw off my whole appetite. (See photo) Luckily, I gave this place another chance and I was far from disappointed. Like I mentioned before, you can TASTE the difference that Akita offers with their various dishes. My best recommendation is the classic poke bowl. It packs a powerful punch of flavor right to your taste buds. The fish is delightfully soft, not chewy and the veggies are crispy and bright. The sushi rice is extremely fluffy and flavorful... and I think I might be addicted. So far, i've only ordered "to-go" and haven't tried their food truck but i'm sure it's all just as amazing of an experience. The prices are a few dollars less per roll than other places, that should have been a give away regarding quality, but even then it isn't worth it.
