How in the world did this place get so many stars? Went to get a sourdough bread bowl chowder and they said they didn't have any and it would take 20-25 minutes to get any, even though I could see a huge pot in the pick up line window. They were also out of roast beef for any of the sandwiches. The clerk taking the orders was very unfriendly and told us pretty much everything would be a long wait. It was 1230 pm on a Sunday afternoon. We waited 35 minutes for: veggie panini and grilled cheese sandwich. We had to ask multiple times when our sandwiches would be ready to which they couldn't tell us as they were scanning the ticket orders. We finally asked if we could get our money back and cancel our order if they hadn't started yet... magically they threw the sandwiches on the counter for pickup. It was extremely dry and higher under seasoned. If I just wanted a lettuce sandwich I guess I could have just gone home and made one myself. Literally lettuce onions and pickles.... I was not sure why it took so long. It was suppose to be a panini. Doesn't that mean grilled? It was cold, sloppy and completely disappointing.Seattle is pretty vegetarian friendly so this was huge letdown. I do not recommend this establishment at all! read more

I live in Seattle and had always dismissed this place as 'touristy' and unlikely to be good, but tried it today with a hungry 4 year old and we both loved it. This place is still doing pick up and delivery orders through Uber Eats. I ordered from here since I live in the neighborhood. The preparation was about 10 minutes before it was ready. I had the golden sampler with French toast. The bacon was flavorful and tender, the scrambled eggs and hash browns were not dry or undercooked. The one slice of French toast was moist and thin. I only wish it could have been a thicker piece or maybe two slices instead of one. The panini toast was over toasted and hard. The packaging of the order was satisfactory everything was sealed properly. After this covid-19 and social distancing is over I will give this place another try in the future. read more

I've read a few unfortunate reviews and maybe it was just the time of day when folks walked in. We went to the bakery multiple times while in Seattle both before and after a cruise. The fact that I have a gluten intolerance doesn't limit my ability to have sourdough in fact it helps me to digest it with little or no pain. And double sourdough? Bring it on! We had a great experience every time we went and then I took bread home with me to Florida. The only complaint if you will that I have is that I have been calling and trying to reach them by email with no luck. I want to ship some here because it'll still be cheaper than flying to Seattle to get it. Great food, great service, love the fact that they recycle and compost 90% of what they serve too read more

My boys are bread addict's, we go through at least 4 baguettes a week. I'm not sure what happened but our loaf was definitely over cooked, not good at all. I ordered from this place and it was bad to the point that I didn't eat what they served me. The sandwich had soggy bread and the olives overpowered the taste of everything else to the point it felt like I was eating a wet olive sandwich. The salad smelled like dog food. I don't mean it smelled bad, I mean it literally smelled so strongly of dog food that I felt sick. Worst customer service ever! Came in to a dead shop. The gentleman working the register was extremely rude, kept sighing, rolling his eyes and dragging his feet. I believe his name was Richard. Not sure why I'm so fond of this place, but I am! It's nothing special (I like to think of it as a low-budget Frontierland restaurant at Walt Disney World), but I've enjoyed all of the food I've ordered here. I will say that for the past couple of weeks, they've been out of smoked salmon, which is the highlight of my favorite sandwich, but there are always alternatives to try. I work on the waterfront so I head down for lunch sometimes-- my usual order is 1/2 3 Lucky Swedes sandwich and a cup of clam chowder. They also have a case of baked goods (huge sourdough loaves, enormous cookies, muffins, etc.). I have yet to try these, but I am looking forward to doing so soon. Seattle is sometimes considered to be the northerly equivalent of San Francisco, but also is the cruise gateway to Alaska. Since both of these locales are known for sourdough bread that became prevalent in the days of the gold rush in California and Alaska, I thought it fitting that Seattle has one to celebrate this heritage. The bakery pales in comparison to Boudin Bakery in San Francisco, in which the cafe has become a spectacle in itself with its open view window for tourists to gawk at breadmakers doing their work. You will not find animal shaped sourdough loaves here, but the bread itself is decent. The bakery is inside Pier 57 across the hall from The Crab Pot. The interior is a bit dated and the shop is on the small side, but the selection is formidable. They have different varieties of sourdough in many shapes. You can also order sandwiches made with the sourdough bread. It is not just sourdough breads here only though. They have other baked goods including muffins, croissants, cookies and cinnamon rolls to name a few items. I picked up a loaf of the double sour ($4.49) and a giant cinnamon roll ($2.69). The double sour is nice. Flavor is as advertised. I would not say that it is worth going out of your way for, but I liked it. Sourdough tends to get stale after a few days, so it is best to eat it quickly. Otherwise, use it as a compliment to a soup or chowder. The cinnamon roll was huge. It was filling and tasted good, but was on the heavy side. Sort of on the sweet side and had what seemed like a shortening type chunkiness to it. While it is no Boudin, the sourdough here is worth a try if you are visting the Seattle waterfront. read more

We stopped by here after a day doing touristy things at Pike Place with an out-of-town visitor. Got the special which was a grilled cheese and tomato something soup. The sandwich was surprisingly good. The bread was skillfully grilled yet soft and delicious. The tomato soup was top notch and the two tasted great together. My favorite were the soups and the chicken panini. The french dip was a bit too salty for my flavor and the au jus just made it slightly worse, because it was just salty with no other flavors in it. The chowder is pretty good considering they don't specialize in chowder, lots of soft potatoes and clams inside. Their grilled cheese was underwhelming, a bit too thin, and not enough cheese at all. Without a doubt the worst service I've ever received in my entire life. After letting a "regular" cut us in line, the woman behind the counter was extremely short and rude while we were trying to place our order, rushing us the entire time even though there was no one in line behind us. The most entertaining part of the meal was watching other people walk in and get the same horrible service. One person inquired about a loaf of sourdough and the man behind the counter said "we're out, you can't see the display case?" Which was the cherry on top of this horrible tourist trap. Well deserved 5 stars, but I only went for the bread so I can't review much more than that. I do have to say their bread is the epitome of crusty bread! Just the way I like it. There's nothing worse than cutting into a loaf of bread that just squishes down with your knife. I know it's going to be delicious bread when flakes of crust are flying everywhere as I'm sawing into it. C'mon, you know what I'm talking about. I went around 1pm and I wish I went right when they opened to get the bread when it was warm, but that was my bad. I got 2 loaves and it came to $6 and some change. Not bad when Safeway charges $1.99 for the squishy baguettes. It's a cute, small shop with only a few options of bread. Which really made it easy on me. I wanted sourdough, and that's all they have. I thank them for not distracting me with other options. I froze my second baguette and it was just as delicious when I tossed it in a warm oven to thaw. Still crusty, still tasty. I'm so happy I discovered this little gem and will definitely be returning when I want a good loaf of bread. Which will be more often now that summer is coming to an end and the waterfront won't be so chaotic. Hopefully I can find closer street parking for my next visit. read more

A great place to stop for a quick bite then you are down on the waterfront! The bread is soooo fresh and delicious. I ordered a sandwich and it was made fresh, and served up quickly. Now, seating in this place was a little tricky and if it had been any busier, it would have been impossible to sit down. But, I got lucky and found a little counter space. We were staying in Seattle, Queen Anne District, on a trip to the city from Cali. The Alaskan Sourdough Bakery was one of the places on the waterfront that stuck out for us. Laid back, casual. We smelled the bakery before we got there. The food we ordered was great. My husband ordered the salad and we shared a Turkey Pesto sandwich. The salad was HUGE to say the least and all sorts of stuff on it. The turkey pesto was awesome. I would have liked to try their sweets but were saving that for a different place wherever we ended up.
