We had good service and GREAT food. The food came out within a reasonable time frame. I ordered the Fireline blackened chicken sandwich and hubby ordered the bbq Mac & cheese. When we saw the onion rings arrive at the next table, we ordered those too; I'm so glad we did. They were on point. What a rip-off! 3 perch that were about 4" long and some french fries and tarter sauce. We ordered a side of fries afterwards for $4. That means that the tiny perch were $8 each. It took 1.5 hours to get our food, then it was cold. Then it took10 minutes to get a waitress to get our bill. It was trivia night, ok thought what a great idea have fun, well that's where it ended. Waitstaff was behind because they obviously can't handle a big crowd right away. The food is now ordered on a piece of paper marked with pencil, so circle it cross out style etc. I am not sure what the kitchen needs to get there act together, but 45 minutes to 1 hour ticket time is NOT acceptable for a "standard" menu. Especially since you circle the items that you want. Probably won't go back until the end of season possibly when the kitchen can "handle " the work load. In all honesty the fries were actually good. The waitress was nice but didn't listen to anything we said and missed us asking for things like no tomatoes on a sandwiches. The wings had almost no sauce on them that we could not tell which wings were which flavor. They claim they have the " best burger in town", when really any other restaurant could make it better than they did, and it also came out way after everyone else's food. The fries that came with it had HUGE chunks of deep-fried peaces of something ( not fries), probably because they haven't cleaned it in forever. The salad was fine, you can't mess it up. If you like a lot of iron in your water definitely go there, because the water tastes like straight iron. Also there was a lot of extra things on the nacho supreme that were NOT on the menu that we would have asked not to put on them if we had known. They also were out of an item on the menu, and didn't tell us till we tried to order it making one person in my group have to quickly scramble to find something else to get. SKIP this place. Been here on and off for 20 years. I can't say enough bad about the attitudes of the staff, low quality food, s l o w service. It's clear the people that work here seem to want to see it fail. I feel sorry for the poor sap that recently bought this joint. We've been here four times in the past two weeks and each visit has been more disappointing than the last. I typically leave positive reviews even for so-so restaurants, but Alden Bar - now called Torch Lake Brew is one of the worst experiences I've had in many years. Asked for a manager. Marla who I had experiences with the past few times (cannot believe she is a manager) didn't respond to our concerns with the food quality. Didn't take a bite of my burger for obvious reasons (see pictures) and was still charged for it. Horribly managed restaurant. Maybe they make it up $$$-wise on weekend booze sales. DO NOT GO HERE!!! My husband and I walked all the way there to check this place out. We left the teenagers with the two younger kids at home. We asked to see the menu. We told them we would probably do carry out. The waitress said they were a little backed up and it would probably be 30 to 45 minutes. We said that's fine and walked home. We decided to just walk back to the restaurant with all the kids and eat there. The minute we walked in, the manager told the waitress to tell us that the grills were being turned off and the kitchen was closed - an hour and a half before they actually close. All 8 of us had to walk back home and find another restaurant to go to. We read the reviews before we came to this place and decided to give them a chance anyway. Well, we definitely should have believed the negative reviews. This was the worst customer experience we have ever had in our entire lives. The manager did not even apologize. I am guessing this place will be closed in a month. My husband was so irritated that he walked back to the kitchen and gave them a $100 bill. He said that they will most likely need this as they will soon be out of a job. I would have rather kept the money but that's not his style . Not a good impression of Alden and pretty disturbing for our summer vacation with our family. The locals should try to get a better restaurant in this location. read more

Really sorry to have to write this crappy review of this once lovely place to go and eat and unwind, but today me and the crew from a local business went there to escape another establishment that gave us bad service in the past, the place wasnt that busy and well we ordered our food and drinks , two members ordered cups of soup well even that took forever to get to our table, had to tell our waitress that we would like refills (I didnt get a refill) we sat and watched their lunchhour got to waist with only two people getting something substantial (If you call soup that) Asked said waitress to find out the holdup on our food, was told that a party of three people were the reason for said holdup, and they being understaffed due to new ownership again. Very disappointed I'm a local and regular customer. Torch Lake Beer Company has steadily improved since the ownership change. The food is good. Great beer selection. I'll be back but tonight's visit was ridiculous. I was surprised that the place was only about 70% full when we got there but they said they wouldn't seat us for about an hour because the kitchen was running behind. Really? A kitchen running behind is easy to understand this time of year. But, we couldn't sit and have drinks while we waited at an available table? If you are looking for the local local, this is it. They're currently undergoing renovations, but the casual, friendly atmosphere remains. Generous cocktails, good beers in cold glasses, and indifferent bar food in the classic American style. Plus SHUFFLEBOARD! C'MON, SHUFFLEBOARD!!! The staff makes n00bs feel like locals. There are events every night of the week, ranging from Euchre to Karaoke, with live music on the weekends. The blues band playing tonight is seriously quite good by any standard. read more

If I could give them less than one star I would.. I wish I could give them negative stars. What happened to this little diamond in the rough? The food and the service along with the clientele has completely diminished. The fish sandwich I was served was frozen prebreaded particle fish... Alden Bar seemed to always pride itself on hand battered fish. So I was beyond stunned. Thank God I had the clam chowder to offset the disappointment. The clam chowder was nothing to write home about either and it was probably can or frozen rather than homemade, but at least it was edible. I watched one of the servers I think I overheard her name was Tammy, (pink camo hat) bus dirty dishes from tables place them in a bus tub then grab fresh food from the kitchen and carry it out to diners without washing or even sanitizing her hands... And I did notice a large hand sanitizer bottle at the corner... This woman server appeared to be a tweeker. In all honesty the bar tenders sanitary practices weren't any better. I constantly witnessed both the server and bartender bussing dirty dishes and never washing or sanitizing hands. We never got refills on our drinks, even though both women had plenty of time to stand at the bar and play with their cell phones and tell stories about other drunken patrons by name. To cash out we had to go to the bar to get our bill. There was only 2 remotely clean cut staff in the kitchen one was a guy who put the food in the window the other was a girl. The other 2 or 3 guys who I'm sure were even employees looked like thugs. There were some sketchy people at the bar as well, with one kid who could NOT sit still. He made me incredibly nervous with his behavior. Between the disgusting service and disgusting food, I will not be back anytime soon! Under new ownership, unfortunately the service was under par. Seems that the new owners aren't sure how this establishment needs to be staffed during the holiday weekends when people are in town. We arrive at 12:15, and it took them about 15 minutes for menus to be brought to our table. After my husband ordered a beer, 20 minutes goes by, and they do not have that beer, or the second beer the chose off of the menu. We finally ordered, and the food is okay. So I'm going to cut to the chase, my food was beyond underwhelming. I ordered the sausage platter. For $15 I was expecting something decent. I got a bratwurst and two hotdog size sausages cut in half.... these weren't special sausages or brats by any means. Picture a Johnsonville brat and and two Echrich polish dogs cut down the middle and thrown on a plate with some fries. They tasted fine but come on... I know it's a tourist town and prices are jacked but their cost for this meal couldn't have been more than a $1.00. My wife said her Mac and cheese was fine. I wish we had looked the place up on Yelp before heading there last Saturday. I've been to this restaurant several times over the past couple of years and it was always good food, good service, and reasonable price. That is no longer the case. We arrived about 11:30am on 07/13, on our way out of town. The bartender seemed very upset that we wanted to put 2 tables together so that all 6 of us could sit together, but did push them together for us. We ordered our food and then just kept waiting. After over an hour, I asked if our food (which included a salad and appetizers) had even been started and was told NO. We were told that the kitchen was slow, we were not told that there was no way we'd get our food, even our appetizers, in less than 90 minutes. The place wasn't even that busy. The waitress did apologize to us 1x after about 45 minutes - but still didn't bring us any refills on our ice tea, water, pop, etc. She did apologize again, when we said we were leaving. The bartender, who was doing nothing, told a member of our group to use the machine to play Keno - apparently he was a bother, though she had no one at the bar. It's a shame that our awesome vacation to Torch almost ended on such a terrible note. Luckily, The Muffin Tin, across the road, came to our rescue. We were seated, served, ate, and checked out within 30 minutes. Absolutely terrible experience. read more
