They were very accommodating with my time and worked around my schedule to get everything taken care of. The neighbors were doing construction and after 30 years I saw my first rat. Mice I can handle, but rats are completely unacceptable even if they mostly inhabited the garage. Alert Peat Control has services my home for many years. Primarily the service was for ants, but did include service for a short time to eliminate a rodent problem. I smelled a foul odor coming from my heater vents in my living room and heater was not on. Suffices to say I called Alert Pest Control & got on the schedule in a timely fashion to have someone come out to get under my house through my crawl space. I want to give a shout out to my technician Jason. He found a dead raccoon that got through a vent that didn't have a cover on it. I give him so much credit for doing that kind of job. More importantly, he was kind, understanding in the issue and took care of it removing the expired animal without too much fanfare. And they were so reasonable with their pricing! STAY AWAY!! This company is the biggest rip off in San Fran. They collected $395 cash on delivery from us to address our rat problem. Technician came first day...put a few traps (--the company then had the nerve to come back and take all the traps back). In 3 weeks have not caught one rat...problem persists and when I called to complain they were rude and yelled ''I am recording you threatening me'....DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE...big scam, rude and absolutely ineffective!!!! I had the worst experience calling this company. The owner John was rude to Me and my Spouse....and spoke over us when trying to explain our situation. All we wanted was information on the chemicals used...the process... and how his rates are tiered. He got frustrated and asked us to call another company. Who does that?? I've worked in customer service my entire adult life and I'm a reasonable person.... its your job to be patient and kindly educate your clients. My very favorable review of Alert for some reason wasn't showing up - I am writing again to give this repost of my review. Is Yelp messing around with small businesses that don't pay for their tools/advertising by manipulating their ratings?! I'm so shocked to see bad reviews here for Alert Pest Control. My experiences with them have always been amazingly good - especially in light of how creepy the circumstances are. We used them for several years for ongoing mice control in an unfinished dirt room under our house. They were always curteous and prompt - and thorough. Our house backs up onto green space and so we become the first refuge of mice for some horrible reason. So we had mice off and on and then off off off thanks to Alert. We renovated that dirt room into an office and storage room and so didn't need the monthly service anymore. However, we just called with an emergency situation after a mouse must've died in the storage room and now we have tons of disgusting flies in the office. We keep the tidiest of houses so this is like a nightmare to us (probably to anyone, but definitely to us). I called my contact Michael at Alert right when they opened and not only did remember us from years ago, he made sure to get a tech out here today so we can get rid of this problem right away. I encourage you to use Alert. There are always going to be those unhappy customers and some bad experiences with a company but remember that often the loudest voices are not the majority. I am such a happy Alert customer (although it is the type of business nobody wants to ever have to use) that I wanted to make sure that my voice was loud too. read more

Alert Pest Control has been servicing my residence and my place of business for years. There have been some ups and downs but if you tell any vendor exactly what you want, it becomes difficult to screw things up. At home I had rats, carpenter ants and at work we had roaches. A mouse got in my house. Maybe mice, I don't know. It/ they got in my garage and then chewed a hole through the sheetrock to enter a hidden space indoors. I got someone to come fill in the holes, weather strip the garage doors, and remove the sheetrock where I though the mice might be in the walls. Then I called Alert. I didn't want chemicals or glue traps, so they brought only snap traps. (I wanted live traps, but they said they didn't use those.) They said their program was two visits, $175 each, and then four monthly visits at $55 (I think) each. When the guy arrived, he indicated that the contract allowed for 3-day cancellation. I took that cancellation option. I saw no trace of the mice, and was a bit queasy about snap-traps. They canceled with no problem or pressure; the guy came out and retrieved the (empty) traps. Anyway, I bought humane traps and if I see mouse-droppings, I'll set those first. But if you're not comfortable dealing with mice, I found the Alert people very courteous and friendly -- even though I was cancelling. (They mislaid the check I gave them for the first visit and called me, but they traced it.) read more

He was not only interested in keeping us as customers but seemed to honestly want to remedy the situation. He sent alot of information to me and went into depth about preventative treatments and addressed my concerns. I HAVE NEVER REVIEWED A SERVICE - BUT THESE GUYS ARE A JOKE. DO NOT CALL THEM. These guys are a complete scam and joke. The rains brought in mice to our house. I knew exactly where the mice were. We hired them to get to a mouse behind the refrigerator. We hired them to clean up from behind the refrigerator - when they arrived they refused. They refused to move the dishwasher. The man who came to our house was lazy. ---I wondered if he was stoned or just woke up from a nap. They came in and laid out glue traps and mice traps - ALL OF WHICH I Could have done. NONE. NONE caught a mouse. I went out on my own and bought my own traps and found one good one that worked (TomCat Glue trap works great). The traps I laid caught a mouse. Alert Pest Control used cheap traps that just collected dust. It was a joke. They were hired to help me rid of mouse and help clean up after, charged us $350 and they were useless and horrible to work with. At the end of it all $350 and two worthless visits they told me I had mice behind my fridge and washer and sink and wanted to charge me more. Um. Thanks.... That's why we called you. TOTAL JOKE. DO NOT CALL THEM. Go to HomeDepot and get TomCat Glue Board (with Green Glue), and DO your own research on how to trap mice and de-scent the house and clean up holes. Let me start by saying both service technicians were amazing kind and helpful but this does not represent the company at all. The company's main goal in my opinion is long-term contracts Dave the sales person repeatedly tried to get me into a long-term contract with them although after three visits they found no mice or rats in the location I sent them to after this high-pressure sales from this salesman came almost daily calls using different extensions after I blocked their number but then he started blocking his caller ID so I could no longer block the incoming number. I had told him multiple times I am not interested in a long-term contract as I feel they too are very expensive compared to other pest-control places I have found since. When I called to complain about the harassing phone calls that I received daily on both my cell phone and personal phone I was hurriedly rushed off the phone and felt dismissed borderline rude behavior. At no time did I feel I was appreciated as a customer and I must admit with their high pressure sales tactics I have concerns for the elderly that they must come in contact with them as they do not stop. I use alert all the time. I work for a property management company and whenever we have an pest issue I am on the phone with alert in a matter of seconds. Everyone from Carmen to Mike to the owner himself have been very helpful to me and the rest of my office staff. They are well organized, extremely knowledgeable, and really kind. Whenever we have questions about a certain pest or a product they use they have problem answering us in full detail, even providing links to articles that explain our questions as well. Even when our tenants contact them they are more than willing to be helpful and provide all the information that is requested. If I call them on a Monday to service an apartment they are out within two business days. read more

When I started out with this company, I wrote a glowing review. However, the coin has flipped. After working with them since January, my problem is not solved, and the services that were promised in the beginning were not performed to my satisfaction. After the Manager David ? got involved, the relationship changed. It became one of trust me, however, I see trust as a two way street, and even though I never gave them a reason to distrust me, it became payment before service, and it went downhill from there. I had a problem with rodents in my home, and while they caught some, there was evidence that there was still activity. We contracted them to do a clean out, the job was half done at best, and to add insult to injury they took up all of their traps when it was presumed that I would be discontinuing their services, despite the fact that there was still activity. So I will give you credit when you do it right, but I fell responsible when you get it wrong, to make it known. The customers needs should come before your own. read more

This is the worst pest control company EVER! The technicians are LAZY! This was only a routine 3 month treatment of carpet beetles for which a private company (although more expensive) did a fantastic job the 2 times my landlord would agree to pay them. Unfortunately, this kind of service requires 3-4 visits throughout the year as the treatments do not kill the eggs that hatch. I had done my research, and had documented proof from San Mateo County Vector control stating what type of bug this was. I HAD MY WIFI WEBCAM ON THE FIRST VISIT! As I watched the first Tech (Tony I think) do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I informed Alert myself and the following service was done by another Tech. He explained a lot more to me and what he could and could not spray, and when I returned home 5 hours later, I could smell some of the residual fumes and could see evidence that he had sprayed everything he was allowed to. Meanwhile, larvae continued to eat clothing in closets and dressers where he wasn't able to spray. So I got my own super poison at Home Depot and re-sprayed all the places he couldn't. 3 months later, eggs are hatching into larvae. I took many pictures and saved the actual bugs whenever they'd fly right in my kitchen window. Sure enough, Tony shows up again. He agrees with whatever I ask and once again proceeds to not spray a damn thing! NOTHING! I was so furious, but I had my backup just in case, so I went in and soaked the place as best I could (barely able to breathe even with a mask) and my daughter and I stayed away that night. This was only 2 weeks ago, and I haven't had time to complain since that first day when they said I'd have to call back Monday before 8 am if I wanted to speak to one of the managers. I'm not allowed to name other businesses, but I guarantee you, ANY other pest control company would be better than these guys! ***in response: I would just like to add that I am the tenant and the property manager hired you guys, not me, so I have no choice. Also, I did in fact call Friday afternoon around 4 PM when your receptionist said that the only two managers were both out on calls and would not be back in the office until Monday at 8 AM and if I didn't call at 8 AM they would both be gone for the whole day doing services. Lastly, your tech who actually did spray the 2nd time around refused to spray my mattress, my couch, my drawers or my closet and I did have everything prepared for him. He said he was unable to spray those places and that the manager told him he could not, as well as under my kitchen sink and under my fridge where "carpet beetles would not be found". I can guarantee you I know more now, after over a year of dealing with this, about carpet beetles than any of your technicians. The cycle is every three months and any chemical will only kill the bugs and the larva , not the eggs or the pupa hence the three month cycle. If you would like to challenge any of the information that I stated please do contact the San Mateo County mosquito and vector control unit because they will tell you what they examined for me and back up every word that I said. read more

Called them to eradicate wasps from our roof. First of all they wouldn't even go UP on the roof and just walked around below and looked up and said they didn't see any, so we don't have any! However, we knew we did have them as they come into the house! They looked in the attic and said we had none. End of subject ............after paying $145.00! Now, 6 weeks later, still have wasps and called a great service WHO WENT ON THE ROOF AND REMOVED AT LEAST 10 NESTS!!!!!!!!!!! Alert is useless. read more

However, when I respectfully made a routine request of him for information, he rudely refused and said that he didn't want our business. We had a terrible experience with these guys. They gave us a telephone quote to deal with a rat problem -- no mention of any service contract -- and when they came out they presented a contract for a higher price and a six month service requirement. The guy who came out was nice enough when we objected, but when he called "headquarters" the owner agreed to correct the price but insisted on a 6 month contract. After the owner insisted on a 6 month contract, the service guy tried to get us to sign by telling us the owner wouldn't enforce the 6 month requirement! The next day the owner called me and was very insulting, saying he had "2 degrees" (academic credentials in ratting, I guess) and went on to claim that he had explained the service contract to my wife "in words so simple that a 12 year old could understand it." The part about his 2 degrees was actually pretty funny, since my wife has a PhD, a post doc in microbiology and an MBA, but they guy was such a sleaze that it didn't seem funny at the time. I think he was about to ask me to pay him for sending a guy out, but we didn't get that far because I lost my temper when he insulted my wife. I tried to call back to complain, but was routed back to the same guy, who must have been the owner. Call at your own risk. read more

Do NOT hire this company! I spoke to the owner, John, and discussed pricing and set up an appointment. When the technician arrived at the house, the pricing and terms had changed and they wanted to be paid before even performing any services. I then called the owner who wasn't available at the time so I told the technician that I would pay after I spoke to the owner because the pricing wasn't what we had agreed to. After the technician left, the owner called back and was extremely rude and threatening! I then paid the amount that we had originally agreed to. Since then, the owner is harassing and threating to sue me! Not worth the time and money. I agree with Sherry A.....they are a big scam! read more

I hired them to get a raccoon out of my crawl space. They caught it with a cage. Later I called them because I still heard noises. They came back and told me it was pregnant and the babies were still there. They said they could not go up And grab them because my scuttle was to small for anyone to fit in it. Mind you I have have had several workers in and out. They told me it would smell for a while and that's it. Later I heard more noise. They put a lather up and put a 5 dollar screen. They charged me 700 the first time and 250 for the screen. They did not nail the entire thing in so it still open. I gave them a temp check their bank did not accept. Immediately they came back to collect. I paid them less the check fee And told them I'll pay it when they finish the job. Months have passed so I called to speak with the owner. More than a week later a office manager calls me back not to hear my story but to fight. They got the money and the job was not done. This guy yelled at me and was very disrespectful. I told him that's ok I'll yelp them. He said he did not care. Don't use them. They are very unprofessional and not willing to listen to the customer. read more
