And when I ate at Alfredo's with a friend we each tried different entrees so we can share and sample the food. I loved the fajitas! And the Albondiga's soup was delicious (so hard to find Mexican restaurants that serve a large assortment of soups, by the way). The staff was very friendly. Nelson and Gaby were there. Me and my husband love this place! We go for lunch all the time! We even use postmates to order from them when we can't go out due to having a new baby. Nelson is the best server! While the food is decent, the customer service from the young lady who does the register is less than subpar. I thought maybe she had a bad day the first time but she's rude EVERY SINGLE TIME I come in there. She does everything she can to ignore me. Answer the phones, help the cook, look at receipts...all while I'm standing in the lobby alone. She won't even greet me. When she does eventually hand me my order, it's with a nasty attitude. Yet I watch her give others prompt service. Maybe I remind her of an ex? The gentleman who works when she isn't there is super friendly. My first time here, my sister brought me because I wanted a michelada and she said they were good here. Which is an understatement! They are so good here and actually spicy. So much flavor and so big! Our server was yessi, she was really sweet and a hard worker. She was the only one and she did great. She came to check on us and made sure if we needed something she was there. The food, I got the wet burrito. Unfortunately it was kinda simple, but if you add salt to it, it is more flavorful. It is very filling and worth the buck. Sadly I have no picture of the food because I forgot but I do have a pic of the michelada! The place is kinda small and really hot inside! They have to ac/ air. They have a very nice clean enclosed patio. I would say 1 of the best things about this place was the service. Katrina was phenomenal. She greeted us with a smile and energetic enthusiasm. she was very attentive and fast with the drinks and chips and salsa. the salsa was very good. Its hard to find good salsa at restaurants these days. Katrina was very knowledgeable of the menu, and recommended many great items. We never had to worry about asking for refills because she was right on top of it. I had the eggchiladas with the red sauce. lets just say I cleaned my plate.lol. The food came out very fast and hot. My family moved to Torrance 25 years ago. We frequented the original restaurant weekly, mostly Sunday breakfast on the patio. When the place sold, we tried it and were most disappointed, the cooks had changed and nothing tasted good anymore. Horrible, I don't even know where to start -.- my husband and I ordered through doordash today and got one large coctel de camaron and the camarones al mojo de ajo plate. My camarones al mojo de ajo came with no guacamole which the menu claimed it came with and they only gave me 7 sad shrimp. I basically paid for rice and beans and a small portion of shrimp, the flavor was good, but not worth the 15$. Now on my husband's cocktail, again, only about 8 small shrimp and tons of veggies (mind you this was a large coctail.) It lacked flavor and he also said the crackers were stale. The total of the meal was about 40$ and it was NOT worth it at all. If you're looking to get your money's worth, just go to the other alfredos on narbonne ave. I like this spot cuz down the street from from my job and they open pretty early. Only had the the breakfast burrito from since I don't eat pork I ask for asada. They charge $2 more for that. Not a big deal but kind of annoying. What IS ungodly annoying is that charge $2.59 for salsa.. SALSA! And the worse part is they charge you for it when you don't even ask for it! First of all what Mexican restaurant chargers for the most basic condiment in Hispanic food. Furthermore charge you for you it when you don't even ask for it?! Decent little spot tucked on a corner in Lomita off PCH. Went during the afternoon like around 4 and the place was dead. No happy hour specials but the beers are huge if you get a big one, I drink a lot and one lasted me a whole meal. I came here to try there special the pork marinated in banana leaves, Yucatan Style. Overall the plate was delicious. You get a choice of albondigas soup or salad as one of the sides and it comes with rice and beans. Tortillas were delicious. Cool little place to eat nothing to special but obviously they're doing something right to still be here after so many years. read more

I ordered for the first time today from this restaurant. I ordered menudo and enchiladas de camarron. Let me say, both were delicious. The menudo was loaded with tripas and so flavorful. Came to Alfredo's for the first time tonight and I have to admit I wasn't expecting to be wow'ed but let me just say, WOW! I was pleasantly surprised and so happy that I found my new favorite Mexican restaurant. The chips were hot and so was the salsa (but I like that!), but not too hot. There was a wonderful selection of tap beers which my husband took advantage of. I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas which were chicken enchiladas served with a spicy green chile verde sauce. Husband ordered the Carne Asada plate- something he orders at every Mexican restaurant we go to. He never seems to love them as he went to school in San Diego and apparently no one can make Carne Asada like they can in San Diego. Our food came pretty quickly - not too quick that we didn't have time to enjoy our drinks and chips & salsa, but not too long that we stuffed ourselves on the chips & salsa! My enchilada plate was absolutely delicious! The chicken was shredded and not dry at all. The chile verde sauce was sooooo good that even though my stomach was full my mouth kept telling me to eat! Husband had the same experience with his plate! As I had mentioned, he is a Carne Asada snob, but he said that Alfredo's does Carne Asada right! Our quesadilla was disgusting. It was covered in grease. It was floppy and gooey when you held it. My fingers were drenched in grease. I can only imagine what the inside of my stomach looks like and I feel nauseous. What did they cook it in? Lard? Obviously would never order from them again. It had been a few months since I had been to enjoy this iconic local spot. As always. Nelson greeted my sis and I with genuine and personable smiles and exchange of pleasantries. The food is so great. I was interested in trying something new. I asked for a recommendation between two dishes and chose the Camarones A La Diabla. My goodness. What an amazing sauce! Spicy and flavorful. Nelson brought a spoon for the sauce and sis and I slurped up all the goodness! So tasty! Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys spicy flavorful food. Now I'm glad ya said it all! Alfredo's Alfredo's Alfredo's ! Let me count the ways you made me waste money on you. I ordered a chimichanga for my coworker . I ordered 2 chimichanga burritos. Chimichangas are supposed to be fun with the ground beef , melted cheesy cheese and just a terrific eating experience right? Wrong!!!! This was far from that and this chimichanga only had a few little snippets of fun . All of the cheese was concentrated it seemed in one little corner of the chimichanga ! Also the ground beef was bland and also this chimichanga was filled with rice and beans! Also this plate came with a side rice and beans?? I think they got way too happy with the rice and beans!! I am going to stop at Walgreens to purchase some Beeno too! Also the guy said it was a "wet chimichanga"?? Never heard of a "wet"chimichanga!!! That is a dichotomy in itself! A chimichanga is fried so why would they wet it? A wet burrito is covered in red sauce , melted cheese and all of that stuff which was MIA on mine and my coworkers chimichangas! This place was great. Always nice when you are treated by friendly servers. Our waitress so friendly and sweet and attentive. I hade the vegetarian burrito and asked for added veggies in it. It was made to perfection. The burrito is huge and clearly was to big for me to finish, so I had the rest the next day for lunch. Great prices too. This restaurant is literally down the street from my parents' house. I say my parents' house, because I am in a weird transition period where I don't really live anywhere in particular. I am in a constant state of moving in with my boyfriend... but one day soon, I will just call Dan's home my home, and on that day I will no longer kind of live near Alfredo's. Which fills me with a vague feeling of regret. Why regret? I've only been here twice, oddly. I could have stopped in countless times for some rice or, if I'm being honest, some of their fried ice-cream. It just so happens that I really like fried ice-cream. I don't understand why I haven't made it to this place at least once a week to get some. My theory is that the restaurant is just a bit too close. I never feel an urgent "oh, I had better go now or else I won't be able to go for a while" feeling, because I can walk down there right now if I wanted. Proximity has hurt us here. Honestly, I wonder if I'll eat at Alfredo's more when I'm securely moved in some place else. Indeed, I've eaten at places in Iowa more times than I've been to some of the places nearby me. One time, when I was walking home from something or other, I stopped in here just to get some water. I really could have waited until I was home, but then I might have been dead by the time I got there so... maybe it's best I didn't. The staff was incredibly nice to me, perhaps sensing my nearness to passing in to unconsciousness. It was a rather hot day and they told me to sit for a while, and to enjoy the nice big glass of ice water they brought me. I mean, I wasn't going to buy anything, and they knew it... but they treated me like a customer anyway. Is it a dismal social commentary that I was surprised by this? Man, we should all be nicer people. Anyhow, that time doesn't count toward the two times I've been here. I've actually eaten here twice. The first time wasn't so great, because I ordered a dish I knew I couldn't really eat just so the person I was with didn't have to wait for me to be vegetarian forever. The second time was much cooler, because I was able to order some black beans and some plain white rice. They clearly sell this for me and my non meat eating brethren, so I appreciate that quite a lot. Um, also? That second time happened to be during a weird impromptu family reunion. There were, what, 15 of us? A family of a weird combination of Scottish and Mexican, sitting together and being Clydes like it was going out of style. So here's the thing: I really enjoy the food here, but the service has been so off putting I have pretty much given up. I live in the area, so I when I first tried Alfredo's, I was so happy to have a restaurant walking distance. Their cochinita pibil plate is salty but rich in flavor with yummy pickled onions. The albondigas soup they serve with the plate is hearty and the meatballs weren't overcooked - everything was tender. I also liked the churros with dulce de leche in the middle. The first time was the only time service wasn't an issue. I waited a while for the food, but everything came out well. Since then, I have had issues with no one picking up the phone, orders taking forever, poorly packaged, leaking food containers, and missing parts of my order. The worst time was when I called and got the answering machine that stated very clearly that I should leave my order as a message. It sounded odd, but it was so explicitly stated I assumed this was how they wanted to do it. Nope! I arrived at the restaurant, explained how I had placed my order, and was told that "they don't do that". Excuse me??! Then why was the recorded message saying to leave messages placing to go orders? When service is this disorganized, it makes me hesitant to continue frequenting the restaurant. Who knows - if there are this many service issues, perhaps this could be affecting the organization of the kitchen and food preparation as well. read more

I visited here a lot back in the 90s pre-movie for nachos and a carafe of wine with a pal. So today after shopping I suggested Alfredo's to a friend who had never dined there before. Saturday afternoon around 4pm - admittedly an off time to stop for a meal. Two waitresses and only one party of about six people w/kids in the restaurant (on the patio). One of the waitresses was tending to them and the other was on her cell ignoring us until we finally asked "are we able to sit anywhere?" We weren't in a hurry but did not want to stand around being ignored, either. We sat on the patio. Our waitress was nice (the one NOT on her cell phone). If I get her name later I will add it to this review (she wore her hair up and I believe it was lighter in color than the cell phone lady's hair which I think was in a long dark braid). I ordered a mango margarita and a carne asada burrito, wet. My pal ordered a beer, fish tacos and guacamole/chips. Their chips are REALLY GOOD - light and crispy without a hint of greasiness. The salsa is good, too...not mild. My burrito was good, although the menu indicated only carne asada & pico de gallo, yet it had a LOT of rice and some peppers inside as well. Good sauce and you get a small bit of sour cream (like every other restaurant, they are all cheap with the amount of sour cream they give you). My margarita was on the sweet side (doesn't taste like real mango, more like syrup is used) but not bad - no salt on the rim (I was never asked but would have liked that) and it was kind of half blended but mostly liquid. It looked like an opaque orange soda with the top half having ice. But again, not bad despite being on the weak side as I did not want a strong drink mid-afternoon anyway. My friend really enjoyed her tacos - said they were really good, but the guac left a LOT to be desired. My friend specifically asked if the guac was made fresh on site, was told yes and it was clearly NOT. We did not eat it...even after adding salt and some salsa it was virtually flavorless. It was so weird to have it taste-free. My friend and the waitress had a pleasant exchange about it, but in the end we were told the guac was 'all the same' (they would not admit it was either over-ripened avocado or avocado from a bag...perhaps mixed with items on site, but NOT fresh). We were unable to get it removed from our check...something vague about only the manager could remove items...so I guess that meant the manager was not there? We did not ask to have it removed, but were told it would not be although the waitress wanted to remove it. We were told to "mention it next time" but not given any proof like a note or anything. Like my friend said as we drove away, they could have done SOMETHING...like 'hey, so sorry our manager is out so we cannot remove the item from your bill, but here are some chips and salsa to go"...or SOMETHING. Nobody got upset, and the waitress was nice throughout, but it was disappointing to be charged $7 for bad guac that went uneaten. All in all it was good food (EXCEPT that guac)...it was tasty and the chips may have been the best chips I have had in a restaurant (not greasy at all, very light and crisp - I truly cannot say enough good things about their chips today). But don't get the guac, and skip a margarita in favor of a beer (or get some cheap wine as long as you know that is what it will be). I would return for sure (because of those chips, yum!). read more

I've driven past Alfredo's a million times and was so glad I finally took my family there this weekend. In a city full of indistinguishable Mexican restaurants, what stands about Alfredo's is its unique menu that offers things I don't see elsewhere. Example: my husband has lived in LA for 30 years but had never had "cochinita pibil." YUM. I was also pleased to try the pozole and other Yucatecan specialties, in addition to the classics like chili verde. Everything had refined and complicated flavors that made it seem like there was a lot of thoughtful work going on in the kitchen. We almost never eat the chips, but somehow we even sucked down all the salsa because it was so tasty and obviously freshly made. Just as important: the service was great and the staff were extremely gracious and made us feel like we were guests in their home. I didn't ask but would expect that they had all worked there for many years. And I got the feeling that the other guests around us were "regulars."
